Just landed a sweet job opportunity too (Yes I bought the C5 when I wasn't working, lol) Eyeing the A&A kit myself & I'm just hoping the fishing will be good on this new boat!!
I’ve got a trick. If you don’t have a fob and want to use the door key, turn once to unlock drivers door..twice to unlock both doors and 3 times for trunk to pop open 😂
I have an Arctic White 2000 coupe with a 6spd manual. I always hated the lack of a keyset on the passenger side(first year it was eliminated). Being a gentleman, I like to reach around my date an use the key to unlock her door. I sourced a door from an Arctic White '99 and replaced my original door, as you can't simply put the earlier door handle on without doing a fair amount of glass work to accommodate the larger handle assembly. The paint match was perfect and the three key trick to open the other door and the hatch now works from both sides. The wiring harness simply plugged into the existing one. No wiring mod needed.
I swear, the DIC code reader can not be overstated. So many times on our FB groups ppl be like "I don't have a code reader" or "no codes pulled up on my code reader", while the dic one shows codes that many scanners don't see.
Dude I love your videos!! I absolutely love the C5 and C6 Corvettes. I've owned both a C6 Z06 and now driving a C5 base... When I was shopping for a Corvette the C7 came to mind but after some test drives and really deep thinking I realized that the C6 Z06 is my favorite Corvette of all time. I sold my C6Z because I wanted a boat but didn't really want to give up my Corvette life lol... so I settled for a C5 and let me tell you Im not disappointed at all, in fact I'm just as happy driving a C5 as when I was driving the C6 😁
One of my favorite things to do, when owning a GM product is looking up the RPO codes. I found some cool things about my C%. One being factory cd changer. Yes, it is still in the car and works.
The door jamb, when opened, is shaped and form with a small ledge to have your hand push on to assist getting out. It will work better if you are legs are perpendicular to the rocker panel or outside of the door.
Not sure if this is one, but here goes. For Z06/FRCs that have trunks that don’t pop up far enough, push the truck release button and close the door. That’ll make the trunk pop up far enough so that you can get your fingers underneath to open.
You can manually operate the headlights to open and close them without having to turn the lights on. There is a knob next to the lights that have a rubber boot on them. Take the boot off and turn the knob to open then to close them turn it the other way.
Get a power drill and some removable bits. Turn one bit reversed so the flat or Philips head is inside the drill chuck. The bit's other side, now sticking out from the drill, will fit perfectly into that knob's hexagonal recess. An elongated flat-head bit seems to work best for me. Keep it in the car.
My FRC has a manual tab that you can pull for releasing the gas tank door if it runs out of batteries. The tab in my car is located on the driver side in the trunk tucked up by the wheel well.
I can still strap myself into my worn out c5 seat. The seat padding is flat but the side boosters still hold me tight in place. I never knew about the competitive driving mode, I have never heard anyone talk about it. I thought that only applied to adjustable shocks/active handling. I just went down and yes it does have a competitive driving mode. Normally, when I want to smoke the tires I just turn off traction control, I can't wait to go for a ride and see what it will let me do now. I got a tip for you ... check your gas cap, if it is worn out, it will trigger the red check engine light. I have went through three caps in 10 years.
Just a small clarification about the fans: It's not that "fan motor #1" starts at one temperature and "fan motor #2" kicks in at another. Both fans always run together at the same time. When we refer to "fan #1," it means both fan motors are connected in series, running at half their full speed. When we refer to "fan #2," it means the motors are connected in parallel, running at full speed.
Hey thanks for the great video! Very good tip about the trunk. I always thought it was inconvenient that I have to turn the car off to open the trunk. I wonder if this will also work with taking the soft top down. I'll try tomorrow. Thanks!
I believe the popup headlights were eliminated for compliance with pedestrian impact safety regs that were scheduled for mid 2000's , same reason the Ford GT was discontinued , it was not compliant with those regs regarding height of impact points..
If you are experiencing issues with your tail lights because your headlight switch or "stalk" is in need of replacement, Chevrolet designed a bypass to make them functional until you purchase & install a replacement. All you have to do is go to the Options button on the DIC and turn on the Twilight mode.... You will now have tail lights when you're head lights are on. The only downside is the dash sensor HAS to register darkness.
A lot of these things are interesting to discover when driving a c5 for a few years and every time I find something new, I can't help but think how ahead of its time the c5 was. Mine has 143k on it and it definitely drives like a 24 year old car.

Manually downshifting is easier on the 4L60E than letting it automatically kick down. IDC what people say, it works! I have nearly 150,000 miles on my C5, almost 90,000 of which have seen a built, 600hp+ on dyno, LS7 torturing the 4L60E. Trans is totally stock.
