PayPal Scams - Payment Pending for Shipment Tracking

- I have seen this PayPal scam come up a lot lately in PayPal community forums. Don't get caught up in this one!
When somebody tells you that they have sent you a payment through PayPal, make sure to check your PayPal account activity log to verify that you do indeed see the transaction there.
Even if it's pending you WILL see the transaction show up here. Fraudsters are counting on the fact that you will think it's pending, and that's why it's not showing up. This is not true!
Always check your PayPal account directly to verify the payment, and if you are required to take any action for this payment to clear, you will see information about it within the transaction details inside the PayPal account.
If you do not see a transaction in your activity log then no payment was made. Don't ship your product!

I got scammed, but unlucky for him I cancelled the delivery and then ups returned my package, and I wanted to take vengeance and i sent back an empty package with a paper with something wrote on it that said SIIIIKKEEE!!

I shipped a package worth over $1,000 I waited 3 days the payment didn't arrive so I googled it found out that I got scammed by that point it was too late it was already delivered, I don't know should I report that person I have their mailing address everything, even where they live

@nicko a the icon of the email will be black circle contains 2 letters ( PS ) in white and the subject is instant payment of $$$ from ( name of the scammer)
If the real PayPal website email you then the icon appear will be the original PayPal logo ( white and blue with PayPal Word ) it is the logo that you always see on the their website, plus the transaction in the activity section should be there no matter what, even if the transaction is still pending,
If no transaction is there then that's a scammer

Honestly, though, there isn't much they can do, and it will be tough for you to do more as well. You could try to file a police a report, but you may need to do this with your local dept, the dept. where the goods are being delivered, or both.
If you do want to go ahead and file a report with the dept where it's being shipped, they may be able to work with you so they can wait at the delivery address where you tell the person you have shipped the item. It can be difficult to get that kind of cooperation, though.
The best thing we can do is continue to educate others about these types of scams, be it with PayPal or anything else online. Unfortunately, there are many.

This was very very helpful because literally 30min ago I was going through this very same scenario, but luckily for me I realised what was happening and didn't get scammed.
Had my PayPal account open as I was in email discussions with this fake person and I could see no activity in my account.

Life saving video, I seen this after I took the package to the post office. Realized it was a fake email and called back up and they told me i can come back and take my package back. Great vid!

I got scammed recently. The buyer said the item wasn’t as described and sent the wrong item back and also got the money refunded and since PayPal takes some of the money I now have to pay £33 of my own money. So great!
Do you have an documented evidence to prove they returned the wrong item back to you? You can provide that to PayPal and it can help in a situation like this.

I’m selling my Nintendo Switch on Ebay, and I got a message saying contact my what’s app so I did so, then after I sent proof of condition, they said they sent an email and that it may be in ‘spam’, I was looking at my activity log and because I have never used PayPal I didn’t know if pending transactions came up or not. Very helpful, as I am going to sell my first item and use PayPal, to sell a custom carbon wheelset on Pinkbike. I've been watching a lot of TH-cam videos, and there are definitely some crucial steps that need I need to follow when using PayPal, as opposed to selling on eBay. Ok so, I was trying to sell my product which is worth around 400 dollars. Me and this seller were talking and had no further issues going on until he mention about sending the money. So I checked my email and see that 400USD has made and will take a moment. So like 5 mins later I get another email saying “PENDING” and that my funds will only go thru once I deliver the packaged with a proof of receipt or tracking number. I knew in my head that everything about the email was fishy asf and so I had to dig in and found out what was really going on because I never received any payments on my PayPal or gotten a notification about me getting 400 dollars. After watching this video, he explained what just happened to me and the seller for the past 4 hours talking about the product. I’m actually glad that I watch this video because I would’ve gotten scammed big time. I would’ve lost at least 400 dollars worth of stuff.

This isn’t insane! I almost got scammed then. I had a bad gut feeling when they told me that the order was for his nephew in a different country. The payment never went through so I cancelled the order and said I can’t ship internationally.

Right now I screwed over by work so I’m looking for an extra 500, so i was going to sell my laptop and some shoes. The guy who messaged me was acting too nice and fishy. @@thisisrandoms-a1958 Emails are always sketchy. If anything at all is going on with the account or a transaction, just log in directly and you will see it there. If you don't see it there, it's not true.

I can't believe how stupid I was these few days. I felt there was something wrong but never doubted anything. Hopefully, I will be able to get my equipment but I already spent $300 on Express post. But at least, this will be a lesson for me and for my future. I'm feeling very weird, but still i'm happy I have my iMac in front of me and watching this video on it.

Insisting on a tracking number is fine as long as you see the actual transaction in your PayPal account, and it shows that it's covered by Seller Protection. Ship it to the exact address on the payment details, and you'll be covered.

OMG Thank You 🙏🏻 before this video I was almost fooled by the buyer. I sold him a laptop via ebay. He put a higher offer for me to sell it to him. The point was that he wanted me to put him a 100-dollar Apple iTunes card and pay for shipping because he supposedly paid me Extra as was the email spam call PayPal and they told me there was no activity. Remember if you do not see the money do not send the package *****😊

Just Had it happen to me today. Dude was so annoying trying to tell me that money are on hold so I cant see them on the PayPal app. I called Help line and Lady told me there is no money on hold. THX FOR THIS VID.

I received payment and it is marked as pending on my PayPal activity log. I then received an email saying that I had to email the tracking to PayPal's verification center of which the email link was in said email. It seemed legit so I entered the tracking information and soon after received another email saying that the verification process can take 24-48 hours. After watching this video I feel like I may have been scammed but I'm not sure, especially since the package was delivered and still, the funds are pending on my activity page.
Edit: I definitely got scammed. The transaction ID on PayPal did not match the one in the email. Such a simple detail I overlooked...
If you see a payment in your actual PayPal account activity log, then at least a payment was indeed made to your account. Buyers and sellers get different transaction IDs for the same payment, so depending on what email you're looking at it could be expected that the transaction ID did not match.
When you log into your PayPal account, view your activity log to find this transaction, and then click into the transaction details, do you see the tracking number entered there with a link to track the status? Also, is the transaction covered by Seller Protection, and did you ship to the exact address displayed in the transaction details?
If you followed all of these steps then you should still be okay. Just need to wait for PayPal's system to see that it's been delivered and that no dispute has occurred, and then they will release the funds. Exactly how long this will take can be different depending on variables involved in the transaction.

@@bernie.209 What is the info they are providing about the holds? There should be something in the transaction details explaining what the hold is for. Are there disputes on these transactions?

So this actually happened to me last night. Had this person asking me to send a money request though PayPal. Didn't think anything of it until I asked him if he could do it over eBay instead then he came up with some bs story that he couldn't do so even though his eBay account had good feedback (and I'm sure that's fake). Checked my PayPal to see any transaction was ever made, he insisted he would only release it til I can confirm that my laptop was sent. At that point, I knew this guy can't be the real deal and had a gut instinct that he was gonna con me out of my laptop. This video confirms it. Thank God I didn't ship the laptop. Ive blocked his eBay, changed my eBay and PayPal passwords and changed as much personal info as I could. Many thanks, though I'm hoping I don't get any nasty surprises in future

This just happened to me now,had a lady supposedly from USA and I'm from Australia and wanted to buy my phone off Facebook market place,thought it was a bit strange and now I know why I thankyou so much for this video as it confirmed my suspicions,thankyou

Every time i buy something on ebay using paypal it keeps saying payment pending and there is an hourglass symbol on the item. Im getting fed up with it. Its something thats only been happening for the past year.

What if they donate money to you? Like when you’re streaming a video game and they send you money same thing? Or
The money will come to your PayPal account, and then you could spend it from there directly or move it to a bank / debit card.

This video saved my iPhone 11!!! Wasn’t sure about selling to someone over Facebook who wanted to use PayPal. They were way to eager to spend £650 on a phone and seemed fishy and way way too pushy. Was great after watching this and calling them out on it. I was blocked and they were reported!!
