I tried going along with a buyer wanting to use zelle on marketplace, and her funds kept on not coming through. Buyer claimed that she would have to have to pay an extra $200 for her account to be activated, so that she could DEFINITELY pay me. I told her not to do that, but pay she claimed to do. Anyway, I’m betting the scam was for me to be guilted into trying to reimburse her for her troubles, and she’d pay back the difference (which I would probably never see again) but I was like, “if your funds couldn’t get through to me before, I sure as hell ain’t throwing out money in hopes you’ll give it back!” Whew! God! In retrospect, as desperate as that “buyer” sounded with her zelle problems, it sounds more and more like a jip. SO glad I didn’t front her anything!

If you have Zelle, you can send the request for money to them using there Zelle. That way the request for payment like a bill and then once they pay it hits your bank account. Just don’t respond to any text or email that they would send. Just check your bank account and if the money if there great. If not then they did not pay.

Thanks for all the tips. I just recently had a buyer on Facebook marketplace insisting to pay in advance via Zelle, even after I said cash only. They asked 3 times for Zelle and tried to justify why Zelle is such a great option used nationwide. They stated that they were not planning to buy anything at this moment, but that I had a good price and that this was the only way they could pay at the moment. I felt bad, but I don’t sell stuff online often to justify signing up for Zelle. Now I know better. This video just confirmed my suspicion.

What I do when I receive inquiries about bank, credit or any kind of account, I don't respond via the text or email. I go directly to the verified actual website or call the known and verified phone number. If the text or email says you must respond to that notice, its a scam. Block sender immediately.
Same goes with phone calls. Don't give sensitive, personal information to someone calling you. If it's a legitimate concern, any customer service rep that you get through the legitimate phone number will be able to discuss the issue.
    Stay alert, protect yourself. 😊

Has anyone here had a situation where money that was Sent to them ended badly or reversed? Because I accept payment by zelle all the time.

I had a situation where a man that was in jail with my family member asked if he knew of anyone that could help him get money out of his bank account so that he could have money put into his commissary, phone, etc. I was asked to do this and I was given a Power of Attorney to be able to withdraw funds from his account. Since he used the same bank that I did he asked me to use Zelle to transfer funds from his account to mine so that I could do transactions for him as he requested. I did this for him for several weeks (and I even used some of the money to pay for his attorney) and when he got out of jail he had in his mind that I would be interested in a personal relationship with him. When I told him that there was not even a remote possibility of that ever happening he went into his bank account and filed online disputes for 8 of the Zelle transactions sent to me and put my account into almost $2000 overdraft. When I spoke to the fraud investigators at Chase bank they told me they would let me know the result of their investigation within 10 days. I assumed they would ask me my side of the story as well but when I called them back they said that they had already made their decision that the man's disputes were justified and that my account was frozen and was only able to accept deposits until the full amount was paid off. I feel like this was some sort of scam and that his intentions were to get his money back from my account once he got out of jail, leaving me in a very serious financial bind.

A possible scammer just now on the Facebook wanted to pay me an advance. I gave them my Zell email and the amount of money which was $500. Didn't go through because I needed to upgrade to a business account. They were willing to send me another 300 as long as I sent go that far the $500 never went through but since they have my email. Is that a problem?

Because the bank is not libel and once the money goes to a scammer it’s gone. You will never get it back.
