Hi Dr. Berry, I am glad to see this for beginners. It is always so nice to be prepared so you don't give up. I made a video about my keto flu lemon beverage that I made a pitcher of and drank every day when beginning.I also made a video about my chicken broth with butter, so good! I have lost 50 lbs and still losing. Love your book! xoxoMarjorie
People who take zero supplements don't have heart palpitations. It doesn't make sense suddenly adding minerals after a lifetime of not having minerals. Your body knows how to maintain sodium levels and potassium levels. Dr. Paul Saladinio said he was taking mineral supplements and had heart palpitations. Had he not artificially changed his potassium levels he wouldn't have had heart palpitations. Stopping junkfood and poisons does NOT cause mineral imbalances. You can buy unflavored Pedialyte without Sucralose or dyes or Aspartame, if you do end up feeling cramps. But taking mineral supplements when you're feeling fine, might throw you out of balance. I could be wrong. But after hearing hundreds of stories, it seems that not taking supplements is easier to get right. Supplements can throw you way out of balance.
I've been on Keto for almost a month. I NEVER thought I would say this but I'm never hungry and I don't miss sweets at all (my downfall)! I almost have to force myself to eat. I slipped into two meals a day IF quite easily since I was never hungry. Thank you Dr. Berry for all of your informative videos.
Thanks, Doctor Berry. I lost 120 pounds several years ago on South Beach first then Atkins, but I never reached my goal after a couple of years of sticking to the diet and exercising 6 or 7 days a week (walked seven miles, jumped rope, and lifted weights). I'm only 5 feet 4 inches, but I couldn't get below 190! I think I understand why now. I was eating lots of lean protein and snacking on those Atkin's bars. After watching your videos, I'm back on the keto diet. My body remembered ketosis, so I was back in ketosis by day 2, and I've lost seven pounds in eight days. I have a long way to go, but I know now where I messed up. Thank you much for your easy-to-understand videos.
It's very hard when you live with people who don't support you(I know), and you should if you haven't already, explain how you feel don't hold it in. Good luck, and good health.
I sat down with all my friends and told them what I was doing. Even my roommate is kinda on board. I do the majority of the cooking and tell her what I won't cook anymore, being rice, potatoes, bread and other high carb food. She didn't have a problem and now just brings her dinner home. Since I'm full I don't care anymore. I'm losing weight she was just told by her Dr. to cut out carbs and sugar.... so... who's winning now.
It's even worse when you must share the refrigerator and pantry space and the carb junks are left all over the place. Uhh! Good health and strong mentality for all of us who are on a Ketogenic lifestyle 🤗🤗🤗 Staying strong for my own health and life. Yippee 🤗
I'm so happy I found your channel! I had weight loss surgery 4/4 and my weight has very slowly been falling off. My husband and I decided to move to the Ketogenic way of life and it has been wonderful! I asked my nutritionist about keto before surgery and they wouldn't give me any info and was determined to steer me away from it. It's crazy they aren't teaching wls patients this information.
Great diet, works for me . I have itchy skin around throat and chest. Is this what is called Keto Rash ? Now down from 197 to normal weight of 175 in 6 months . No hunger, great way to change one's life. Thanks so much for the videos.
I was doing great and getting into a ketosis state but then I got insomnia. From what I have read, it is mostly a loss of electrolytes, i.e. magnesium and potassium. Unfortunately, I ate more than a few grams of carbs before I saw this, hoping I would feel better. Loved your illustration of the alcoholic going thru withdrawal. UPDATE: I didn't really carb binge. Just had a few Trisquits too many and a beer to chase some whiskey. Despite that my blood sugars were 93 this morning. 4 weeks ago I started LCHF then moved to Keto and lost 20 lbs. I did this because I had high liver inflammation according to a blood work up. After doing some research I quit taking my statins and metformin. Also quit vegetable oils and began eating whole dairy and other saturated fats. I have never felt better and I am on my way to a healthier life thanks to people like Dr. Berry who risked their medical careers to call out the lies that are being perpetrated by Big Medicine and Bad Science who want to burn the truth-telling heretics at the stake. Thank you Dr. Berry for your sacrifices.
Thank Dr Berry I so appreciate you not trying to sell a bunch of different supplements others do that and if a person is not careful they can spend hundreds of dollars on stuff they didn't need. I do have the heart palpitations after drinking BPC I have had to cut down on the amount of butter or coconut oil I put in my coffee. I had a series of heart test done last year and all was good. God bless
You likely have a potassium deficiency. Cream of tartar on your food and in your smoothies, lightly sauteed spinach and black kale with mushrooms, avocados and potassium citrate tablets would be the way to go. You need a lot of potassium, you need at least 10 avacados to get your needs so you need to find it in all your meals. Lots of good low glycemic vegetables are the way to go. P.S. bananas are not the way to go. Too much sugar 🤮 You would need 14 a day which would be a disaster.
I have to say thank you to my "friend" here Dr. Berry. Almost a year ago i started Keto. With rather good success; but about two months ago some stress in my life made me run for comfort with some of my favorite comfort foods. Not only did i gain back some weight, but i don't feel that great and my joints hurt in ny hands and feet again. I have realized (this morning) after watching about 5 of your helpful videos that one of the huge keys to my sucess on keto was getting some daily support and motivation form your videos (and from some other videos from other keto-folks on line). I'm modivated again and intend to stick to what Clearly works so well. Thank you for ALL of your friendly, helpful videos that are backed up with science and good common sense.
Hi Dr. Berry, I started Keto thanks to you!! I can't thank you enough. I started June 18th and my diabetes is gone, took me only 3 months!! My only problem is...I'm loosing my hair!! I dont want to wash my hair because its literally falling of my head!! What can I do?? Thanks so much for saving my life, now safe my hair please ;)
My heart was racing the first week of Keto in the 95-100bpm, I'm on week 3 now and it has settled around 60-85bpm. I'm still getting diarrhea and fatty stools, but i am seeing some improvements. I've also been mixing in light exercise (I try to get at least 3 miles of walking in a day) and have been doing a little bit of strength training every other day. Most of the effects i've had are positive though. My sinus inflammation has gone down considerably and i'm able to smell again after almost 9 years of no sense of smell, this mysterious pain and numbness in my shins has gone away, my energy levels are way up, and my appetite is much more controlled and I get full from much smaller portions.
I am binge watching your videos on the Keto Diet. Thank you for all your valuable information. Also thank you for your suggestion on cookbooks as that is the one issue I always have with diets not knowing how to cook my meals, never have been good at that ever. I hope that my dance friends will also get on board with this diet when they see how I do and feel because as you said exercise does not take weight off only builds muscle. God bless you and Neisha for caring enough to share this info.
Day three on my keto Journey, almost no carbflu today a slight headache but stamina still low but I’m aware my body is still adapting. :) I’ve been addicted to heavy drugs and I can say that carbs is as hard to stop eating as it’s to stop doing some hard drugs.
I'm glad to have found your channel, Dr. Berry! There is so much (mis)information about keto from folks of all backgrounds and it's great to hear a physician's take on it. I am struggling with negating the calorie paradigm but I'm gonna go out on a limb based on your word. Thank you for helping so many of us live a healthier life.
Thanks so much for helping us keto newbies, Dr Berry would be awesome to see a video on keto rash which I am now experiencing. No idea how to treat it or whats causing it.
Three weeks in, and I'm not even tempted to eat the choc chip 'n' nut cookies my workmate snacks on at her desk and shares. When I was going through the keto flu, I just thought I was a *horrible* person. Everyone annoyed me so easily, and I snapped viciously at my nice mum. Thank goodness it was only two days. Now, everything is optimistic and sunshine.
If only I had found you about a year ago when I started my Keto and IF. I went through all of those things you mentioned. But I am here on the other side very well adapted and love all my extra energy and fitness. Love all your videos.
Dear Dr Berry, Your videos really helped me with understanding how ketogenic diet works. I started this diet 1.5 months ago and my husband started 4 weeks ago. I got rash after 4 weeks of doing the diet. They're on the back of my neck, a bit on my trunk , both armpits and my hairline. The rash settled down after 3 weeks. Then my husband got the rash and it's very very nasty (yellow liquid filled blisters, itchy and sore). He got them on both sides of his upper body, his back, his abdomen, chest, collar bone area, lower abdomen and they're going down to his thighs after a week of getting the rash. Consulted a GP via video call and was told that we don't get rashes from dieting. She said my husband has got shingles and was likely passed on by me. How when both of us got chicken pox when we're young? And the patterns of his rash?.. He is taking the meds to treat shingles just in case... There's really not much information about the rash. My husband is so frustrated and wanted to go back to eating carbs. He has got alopecia and a fatty liver so I really hope he can stick to ketogenic diet. Please make a video if you think there's anything that we should know about the rash. Thank you.
I have been drinking apple cider vinegar with mother for several years for nocturnal leg cramps. I used to have excruciating leg/foot cramps but that ACV works like magic for me.
Thank you so much for making this video! I had a heart condition since 12yrs old. I am 25 now and just went carnivore. 2 WEEKS was all it took for my heart to heal. Hopefully i havent jinxed myself haha but there are no more premature ventricular contractions over here! This diet is amazing. Your information has helped so much
@@christianlee9360 Same here. I'm only one week into keto and my heart is acting up. I'm researching this issue as much as possible because I really believe this diet will help me in more ways than one.
CHOCOMUM33 one month in and still struggling a bit. It’s gotten much better but if I forget to eat massive amounts of salts and electrolytes it will act up. This is partly an electrolyte problem but even with perfect supplementation my heart is still not quite the same. Might do one more month and see
@@christianlee9360 I had to quit low carb cuz my heart going nuts!!!! gained all the weight back. now looking to do it again. but, I am taking magnesium.
After four months on keto, I've lost weight. I will see my cardiologist next month. I would like for him to evaluate my condition after weight loss. Which blood tests should I ask for, please. Watch all your videos. RN for 45 years!. Thank you for speaking out and supporting those of us who care. Cheers.
I started Keto 8 weeks ago. The first 6 weeks were great. I had no symptoms until my 6th week. For the last 2 weeks Iv'e had keto flu, constipation and insomnia. Tomorrow my magnesium, probiotics, and potassium arrive. Cant wait to get on these.
Great video Dr. Berry but I had a question that wasn't addressed in this video. My wife and I did keto back in March and started experiencing great weight loss benefits right away. However, after the 2nd month we both started getting the keto rash underneath our armpits. The rash was so severe and painful that after a week we had to add carbohydrates back into the equation for it to go away. My question is, how can we avoid getting the keto rash in the future? Thank you!
My biggest side effects on a keto diet is having the feeling that a headache is on the way, it never really appears, just a new sensation....and also I have a much shorter temper and less patience, which manifests in road rage. People say that I look mad all the time when I am not mad at all (like while watching a comedy tv show I look like I am angry or in a foul mood. Hunger and sports performance (racquetball) has not been affected by IF and keto so far, which has been comfortable in those aspects. New subscriber and thank you for the videos!
Thank you...you're the best and you have a great old fashioned bedside manner which is so rare these days. You make everything very understandable in a simple way...much appreciated!
I've been doing keto for 22 months and it's great. When I started I did a colon cleanse and at the same time as starting keto. The colon cleanse improved my energy levels and I didn't get keto flu at all.
Hi! Great vid! I've been eating low carb since late 2013 and keto on and off since 2015. Ate a lot more and in variaty in the beginning of LC, lost 82kg, but then stayed at my new weight for a while. Now for about two years I've been struggling with getting rid of my last 15 kg or so and since I've started on this journey I've never once taken one supplement (until now) . I've had my struggles with anxiety and depression my hole life since childhood and quit my medicines way before even starting on my new lifestyle of healthy eating. Eating low carb changed my life for sure, but I still had to change my way of thinking before I could make this all happened and stick to my new routine.. or life in general. Now, last year around June I started doing intermittent fasting on Keto just to see if this was something I could do and for how long. I ate two larger nutritional meals a day, with a lot more salad made from leafy greens than I've ever eaten in my life.. I stayed full on olive oil, coconut oil, meat, fish, shrimps, coconut milk (not that often), eggs, butter and avocado every single day (or so). With that said, trying to adjust to my right amount of greens like spinach, so as to get my daily acquired nutritional needs for everything to work properly and being in general good health for my body to work correctly as it should.. I felt great after about two months and lost weight and could feel I was about to hit my goal weight. But then started to implement some cheese, cabbage and lemon to my diet, all from overload of daily stress during a tough time. At first some, then a lot more. It got out of hand and as soon as I got in a funky mood (and this was just before my birthday as well, with the celebration with family)..On my birthday I felt like I could eat carbs again.. Little did I know this was gonna be a huge mistake in my time of need sort of speak. With prolonged stress I binged on everything with carbs, little by little, day by day I gained weight back on, every single kg and then some. Well.. What can I say I know better now😊😂 I've always been an emotional stress eater. This kept on going with cheese and other dairy products, cabbage (addicted) every single day. I did not stuff my self, but all together it became to much carbs and fat joined together for my body to cope with in the long run. This kept on going from August and until January. Christmas came and just let's say it went from cabbage to sugary sweets = my life long addiction( like with so many others out there). Now since January I've been slowly turning it around and cross my fingers that I'll make it day by day without anything too sweet which can be my downfall. But! With every downfall I get myself up again. I'm never! Going back to were it all startet, so there it is. Anyways, I have jumped back on If with keto and because I feel afraid of carbs from my leafy greens I might not get enough magnesium. I've therefor started to implement with a daily dose of magnesium. Just to stay ahead. Also started to take vit c+zinc and omega 3. Was hesitant on calsium until watching some of this docs vids on this topic. I've had my "weak" moments since my bumpy start back on the wagon but all in all I'm sticking to it as best I can. And, with some new nowlegde here and there(alot of different ideas and opinions out there on keto lifestyle and nutritional values though.. Makes it harder as to know which one to believe in and live by some times) I feel more impovered. Although, not weighing my macros, only by experience and by eye.. I'm my own ginnypig😂 Other than this, just wanted to share some of my own experiences so that others may find some comfort or even inspiration to find THEIR own way of solution to a healthy lifestyle, in general speaking out to those just started on a low carb or keto lifestyle(for lifers). I am my self still after five years trying to find my way around to what by body needs instead of what my sugar craving brain and my past tells me I Want and will make all better.. Everything is connected. Work with the past, feelings, emotions and then your gut and the rest of your body. The solution is never to give in to the empty void, because feelings never gets full😊🌷❤️ Healing takes time, in all ways. Both in body and in mind. I might never be all together healed in mind, but surely I'll still work on it, from my mind to the healing of the gut and body, so as to get stronger, faster, healthier and to prolong a happier fulfilled life.
When I was vegetarian and then vegan for a total of about 15 years I had multiple PVC’s daily, sometimes even multiples in 1 minute that were confirmed by a week long halter monitor. Since beginning the ketogenic diet I rarely get them and I assume they will eventually go away completely as I never had them before starting the vegetarian and vegan diets. It feels so great to not be getting them! Thanks for all the work you do and the info on your channel!
Hi, Dr. Berry! I've been doing keto for a couple months now, and have fallen off the wagon a couple times, but get right back on. I've been noticing that I've been getting dizzy/lightheaded when working out, stretching and any type of exertion. Have you heard of this happening before? I just had my annual check-ups a couple weeks ago and all checked out well. Thank you in advance for whatever insight you can give. I appreciate your work tremendously. May God continue to bless you and your family!!
Hi Dr. Berry, I'm using my wife's phone but my name is Tony (age 50 ) and I truly appreciate all the great information that you provide. I'm getting ready to start the Ketogenic eating way combined with intermediate fasting and weight lifting 6 days a week with a very small amount of cardio until I drop at least 150 lbs. My goal that I WILL achieve is to drop 200+ lbs. while building as much muscle as possible to prevent as much lose skin as possible. However, I have a few questions and I really need your help. 1) Are protein shakes prohibited? 2) Are drinking BCAA's prohibited? 3) Taking creatine for muscle growth (which adds water to muscle) prohibited? 4) intermediate fasting, can I drink as much water as I want during my fasting period each day? (Going to eat between 1pm and 7pm only each day) 5) Can I take fish oil, coconut oil, and apple cider and vinegar? 6) Can I take a multi vitamin? I really want to get it right so I'm trying to obtain the correct information and understanding. I'm GOING to regain my great quality of life back so my journey is life or death for me. Your help will be greatly appreciated !!!!!! Many Thanks !
Just want to take the time to give you a HUGE thank you Dr Berry! The info and knowledge you provide has provided me with the tools I needed to get rid of 30 lbs in 1 & 1/2 months so far and I feel so much healthier. I am starting to feel like myself again, before the quick weight gain I experienced over the last 4 years. Much love to you buddy!
When I i did keto the first time back in late 2016, I never felt better. Didn't even know what IF was at the time. Always satiated, slept 4 hours each night and pooped really well. Used a roll of toilet paper per 4+ weeks. Bowel movements was clean and quick. In out of the toilet in 5 minutes with just one wipe. TMI. Only issue I had was with the keto rash. Once the rash goes away, im coasting. Transformed my relationship with alcohol and had zero itch for a beer or hard liquor. No itch when it comes to the thungs i used to crave for like fries or sweets. Stopped keto after 9 full weeks (it was the holidays) and the. Do keto for about a motnh each year as maintenance. Its been great. Still get the keto rash whiwh shows me that im in ketosis. Another was when i worked out hardcore, I realized that I i needed to carb up. I use a breath meter bow versus the pee strips so I i can keep an eye out better and find my carb loads. This makes me enjoy carbs more when I find my edge cuz i was always under carbing. Have to keep reminding myself that its not a no carb diet but a 'low' carb diet. Happy journey everyone. Taking charcoal pills seem to reduce my rash significantly. Havent oinpinted ut yet but first time i took them while foing into keto and only had rhe rash for one night which is incredible progress for me regarding the rash. It is so itching itchy when it flares up so next time I I go into keto, I'm going to take charcoal pills first and see if the rash comes on.
I've been thinking about going Keto for awhile, but have felt very overwhelmed - your videos are helping me so much in not feeling overwhelmed and feeling ready to jump in now! Thank you!
I have just started & I feel weak as a kitten ..Walking makes me breathless like I see huge people do & I am overweight but not Huge. But I am sticking with it because as a diabetic,I am seeing my sugar numbers very near normal! ( They were in the 200s, on every medication out ...& my doctor was talking surgery ( the kind they give the people on the 600 lb life show) ...so even though my family is freaking, I am sticking to it. This video about side effects has hit home with me. Thank you for all of your videos. I am next going to get your book.❗️❤️
I started slowly cause I thought this was going to be really hard. First week no bread (flour), second week no more grains (rice, oats, etc.), third week no more sugar (I still eat strawberries, blueberries). I am now eating meals with good fats (coconut oil, olive oil, butter), eggs, cheese, clean grass fed meats and variety of quality vegetables and coffee with cream (real cream, yay). I feel great!
My feet are cold all the time now. I've never had cold feet. In fact, when I was pregnant, I had to sleep with my feet in a bucket of ice water. This is the only negative thing I've experienced. I feel great!
Thank you for your help. Just started Keto & only because I came across you by accident on You Tube. I have many health problems & am hoping the diet will help with this. xx
Oh Dr Berry, I have backed off .. I’m low carb just not Keto... could not get leg cramps to stop with mushy legs in morning and began headaches after 2 months. I tried electrolyte. , magnesium, Pickle juice... and I don’t like not feeling strong. I felt strong before and had no issues. 68 .. 118 lbs , not on any meds ..., started Keto for brain health family history of Alzheimer’s... I’ll try again .. thanks for your videos
Knowledge is power, I enjoy your keto videos so much, so helpful, so informative. I have been on since Jan 1- I’m down 20 pounds and it was so much easier getting started with your information. Thank you sir
just a note abt carbs re: dopamine I started keto just a couple months ago, and within two weeks of beginning, I started smoking cigs again (had been quit 6 months). I told ppl I really had no idea why, I was feeling great and just found myself walking into a store and restarting smoking cigs like I'd never quit :/ to make matters worse, I've been a marijuana addict for several years (daily toker). I did quit weed about a 6wks after starting keto, but I fell off the keto wagon a bit soon after bc I craved junk food & cheeseburgers (specifically BK Whoppers) and I ate unhealthy crap for a week. Not exactly terrible (though I would wake up in a heavy depression, which sucked), but I just couldn't beat the cravings your connection of carbs with dopamine just sent fireworks going off in my head - my smoking cigs again makes sense now (I understand why I went back to it), as do the 'munchies' I got AFTER I stopped the weed thanks, I think understanding my cravings a bit better is going to help me beat them 👍
You left one out that I think should be addressed. “Keto Rash” I got it 3 days ago, head to toe itching. The claim is that it’s rare. I disagree with that claim as I’ve found plenty of people. That have had it or are experiencing it right now. Very little info out there on the Keto Rash. So I’ve struggled to find good info on what actually works. I’m not kidding when I call it the worst itch from head to toe I’ve ever had. I don’t have the big itchy bumps like some suffer with. Mine is just the very intense itching in random and certain places. I’ve took all the steps from looking at food allergies to laundry detergent to candida die off. I’ve not eat anything new, have not changed laundry detergent. Basically none of those apply to me. Only one that does is me not having a gallbladder. So I’ve ordered some bile salts to see if that will work. I’ve also been using selsun blue medicated shampoo as body wash twice a day. I would love for a doctor to look into this and find some answers. We need some help Dr. Berry! Too all the other rash sufferers out there. I feel so sorry for your sleepless nights and this suffering.itch. Hugs to you ❤️
I was hoping you would mention being 'dizzy'. (Not that I wanted others to suffer.) But the last 2 weeks have been really bad. Doing yard work I end up having to brace myself against my house to wait the dizziness out. Its so off putting. Ive been potting around home mostly too worried to walk to the gym or the park alone. Im on my 6th week. Feel absolutely fantastic otherwise. And as long as I have my shake during the day I sleep right through the night and bounce out of bed in the morning. If Im still dizzy on the weekend I ll have to make an appointment with my Dr. I dont wish to have to explain keto to him. .... help. UPDATE: it was SALT ! I now use 'litesalt' which I put in my water and sprinkle on my food. I use himalayan salt for cooking. I had no idea our bodies needed so much salt inorder to function. YAY for SALT!
Marjorie Burnett no I dont check my blood lvls. This dizzy is constant. If I move my head too quick even sitting down....... I suppose I should look up how to do this. But as a side note, I gave up sugar and sweetners 4-5 yrs ago. All I gave up this time was bread and lactose free skim milk. And that I only had in my coffee in the morning. And the other year I went without bread, so doing it again was no biggy. So I cant figure what is wrong. I think it is something Im eating not something Im not.......maybe. Will speak to the chemist today and checkout blood lvls. Thankyou for the advice Marjorie.
Ship Creek some dizziness is caused by the crystals in your ears having moved out of place. If you notice spinning when lying down, looking up and just plain moving your body position and head position that's what it might be. Usually resolves on its own but if severe your doctor can do some head manipulation to try to reposition the crystals. I've had this many times and it's always corrected itself.
the heart condition is a true thing. when i started ketogenic, i uncovered my afib condition. i recently have had surgery to correct this. not every needs surgery of course. but mine was causing other issues, like tiredness and a TIA from a few months prior. so im very thankful i uncovered that condition or i may have been having strokes down the road, due to the afib that i wasnt even aware of. so great point to add that in about the heart. and i do believe the carbs and high levels of insulin are to blame for causing the afib or other heart conditions as well.. thanks for all you do.
I already took magnesium and potassium for another health condition, that helps. But yes in the beginning I did notice problems with constipation- but it didn't last that long. Vegetables are very important. Be sure to eat those veggies everyone!
Thanks for another good video, happy to the notice in my inbox! I'm 90 days into the keto eating lifestyle. Have a little keto flu, with headaches, some fatigue now and then. I have dropped the daily after work alcohol habit, I think because I felt satiated with the fats. Great results at first, hit a stall after a few weeks. Seeing many positive benefits from switching from low fat to high fat diet, (after 40 years of very low fat) but have to be careful about portions, it all tastes so good! Grateful for your guidance Dr. Berry!
The most common mistake people make when starting a ketogenic diet is *inadequate salt* . That is, plain old _Sodium Chloride_ . You can get this from ordinary table salt, sea salt, rock salt, or whatever source you prefer -- it doesn't really matter. Potassium and magnesium are certainly important, but much less important than sodium during the keto adaptation phase. Potassium is normally found _within_ cells, whereas Sodium is mostly found in the blood and interstitial fluid. As your blood glucose levels drop (due to low carbohydrate intake), your kidneys will stop holding onto sodium, and you will become sodium deficient unless you increase your sodium intake. Potassium levels are not significantly effected, and it is the new _imbalance_ between sodium in the blood and potassium in the cells that causes headaches and other symptoms of "keto flu". To prevent this, it is a good idea to get between 4 and 6 grams of sodium each day. Since regular salt is only about 40% sodium (the rest is chloride), that means getting about 12 ml of salt per day, which is about *2-1/2 teaspoons* . That may be more than you're used to eating, but it is very important -- don't fear salt! A salty bone broth is a great way to get much of your daily intake. If you do that, it will generally eliminate problems with constipation, as well as lethargy and headaches. Even long-term, on a ketogenic diet you will probably want to continue getting more salt than you may have eaten on your previous high-carbohydrate diet, as your kidneys will remain _efficient_ at clearing out sodium as long as you remain in ketosis. After keto-adaptation (maybe the first month) you can experiment with cutting back on the salt if you like and see if you remain free of headaches, etc. As long as you remain symptom-free, your sodium level is probably fine.
The worst problem I had was hair loss. It was really quite frightening the amount I shed. A bin by my dressing table looked like a bird was nesting in it. A friend even commented on how thin my hair had become. It did eventually grow back though. But significant hair loss happens to a slightly lesser degree whatever diet I eat that results in a big weight loss, so isn't restricted to eating keto.
I've started a week ago. Yesterday I had palpitations, I put some salt under my tongue and it got back to normal. But today I'm feeling really dizzy as if I had low pressure. I'm not sure of it's because of the diet cause I also slept very little last night and maybe it's just lack of sleep. I'll follow your advice and see if it gets better
Dear Dr Berry, I am starting on the ketogenic lifestyle changes. I love, and have been enjoying my homemade muesli with 3 dessertspoons of rolled oats for years...is it possible to keep eating it? I also really love apples. Must I give these up? thank you for all your advice.
Did he consider Brazil nuts, for example, as a natural and better means for addressing many of the complaints? Unless he has compelling science to the contrary, IMHO, he failed miserably to suggest Brazil nuts. 2 Brazil nuts a day will provide: 1. Twice the RDI of selenium, which aids not only in increasing testosterone levels, but reduces mercury in the brain. 2. 100% of the RDI of magnesium, per some sources, others suggesting greater intake. 3. Crammed with healthy fats, lowering LDL, increasing HDL. 4. High in potassium. 5. High in many other vitamins. If anyone will do their own research, they will confirm what I say. SKIP PILLS WHENEVER POSSIBLE, EVEN SO CALLED HEALTH PILLS. CAUTION: Americans tend to think if a little is good, a lot is better. FALSE. An aspirin is good, 10 at a time is a severe health risk. 2 Brazil nuts are safe, but as they are so rich in selenium, 10 are dangerous as they are truly so high in selenium, it can cause selenium toxicity. One time, probably fine, but day in and out, no.
Enjoying your videos very much! Was hoping you would mention dizziness and gout. My friend with Lyme disease experienced extreme dizziness and her first knee gout episode (not resolving) after starting a keto diet. She’s convinced of the long-term benefits but can’t imagine how she’ll be able to persevere through these very painful and debilitating symptoms.
This is awesome! I have a couple friends/family who see my results and want information and this is perfect for me to send to them as an introduction! Perfect timing too as they've asked me just in the past few days! Thank you for this and all the work you do!
Dr.Berry, some women on a fB page ive been on say their hair has started making pigment again! One lady said she thought she was losing her mind when she had a hair that was white with black at about an 8th inch at the root!👍
I just love your straight forward approach. We look forward to videos and live feeds. Thanks, your videos have really helped me live the keto lifestyle.
Hi Dr, love your insights! I've done a plan before and it's very similar to keto, and I felt super amazing when I did it, so now I'm looking into going keto full time. I have a 5 month old baby and I was wondering if you could do a video on baby's first foods, what they should be, how much and when. Thanks!
Greetings from Nashville! I am so very glad I found your channel! I started Keto on Sunday night so this video is extremely timely! We're getting a little snow in our neck of the woods❄️❄️❄️
Potasium can cause afib. My husband began taking potasium because he read that he might need it. He began having afib n it wouldn’t go away, so I googled side effects. THAT was one of them, so he stopped taking it. Afib quickly went away n hasn’t returned. Btw, he has had two artificial heart valves put in over a period of years because of rheumatic fever damage.
Pattie Moseman I got a fib from surgery to have an artificial valve inserted I still take occasional electrolytes I eat a good amount of Himalayan salt!👌🏽
I loved his video! Very good information. I had a bit of hair loss in the beginning of my Keto journey but now it doesn’t seem to be a problem. I also had a pacemaker (for a second degree heart block) prior to starting Keto and now 31 pounds lighter I just feel great! No more acid reflux so no more Rx! Love Keto!
I got it on TH-cam.. it’s basically 4 teaspoons pink sea salt to every good sized head of cabbage.. slice cabbage thin as possible. In large bowl sprinkle with salt and massage it in.. beat it with your fists or a wooden mallet until a lot of liquid forms.. put it in a clean jar and cover.. let it sit a few days at least pressing the cabbage down under the liquid daily.. mine took a week to get sour enough.. then refrigerate and enjoy. That’s it!! Also make sure your jar isn’t too full and don’t screw down the lid just sit it on top
I am 6 days into Keto. It’s brilliant. But I’m feeling very nauseous in the morning and sometimes feel like my blood sugar is low (very shaky etc) but when I check blood sugar is actually fine. It’s the nausea that is really troublesome - hope it goes anyway. Has anyone else had this?
thanks for the video berry, I been on keto for 5 weeks and it keeps getting better and better every week . Had to the keto flu for 2 weeks but now passed that and feeling great.
Marjorie Burnett Are these videos accessible on your TH-cam channel I could view?
Molly yes, my channel name is Marjorie Burnett. Hope you find them helpful ❤️
Marjorie Burnett thank you. I'm still trying to establish my keto lifestyle. I look forward to learning that much more with your videos.
Jason C. Rochon wow! That sounds awful almost like Lyme disease symptoms.

Dr Ken could you please advise us on Keto Rash? - thanks for all your help!
Dr. Berry, I would love to see you do a segment on the Keto rash. It's experienced by many Keto beginners.
You are my fave keto doc. I trust everything you say
Thanks for all you do
I've been on Keto for almost a month.
Thank you much for your easy-to-understand videos.
soo, no Atkins bars, right? aggg. my hubby buys them.
Great video! Thank you for these videos. I am on week 12 and am 28 lbs down. 246 to 218! I am feeling the best I have in years. Thanks...:)
I’d also like to know about hair loss and keto rash as mentioned in other comments.
What helps me now, instead of saying I cant eat x, I now say I dont eat x. It stops me feeling deprived somehow.
Brilliant! Also sounds like people are more likely to stop pestering you to eat something you don't want to if you say it like that.
The most difficult thing is to be living around all carb eaters and resist the tempting foods and deserts ;(
I can resist the temptation. THe hardest part is having to LISTEN to all the carb eaters.
It's very hard when you live with people who don't support you(I know), and you should if you haven't already, explain how you feel don't hold it in. Good luck, and good health.
Yes!! all of our friends are heavy carb eaters.
Yippee 🤗
I Was lucky. No symptoms. Went in 100% cold turkey!!! 2 1/2 sizes down in 9 months.
God bless
He isn't selling the, just recommending the good ones.

Too much sugar 🤮 You would need 14 a day which would be a disaster.
decaf?
He also has no ads!
Dear Dr Berry,
Your videos really helped me with understanding how ketogenic diet works.
Thank you.
I’m concerned about my cholesterol levels, I’m just starting keto and that’s on my mind all the time!
I have been drinking apple cider vinegar with mother for several years for nocturnal leg cramps. I used to have excruciating leg/foot cramps but that ACV works like magic for me.
It's hard to concentrate on Keto when your shirt reminds me of Pizza Hut.
You mean Dominos pizza? ;)
Thats funny. Glad I really do not like Pizza.
It made me look up a good recipe for a Keto Pizza crust. Dr. Berry Rocks! :)
😂😂😂
😂
Thank you so much for making this video! I had a heart condition since 12yrs old. I am 25 now and just went carnivore. 2 WEEKS was all it took for my heart to heal. Hopefully i havent jinxed myself haha but there are no more premature ventricular contractions over here! This diet is amazing. Your information has helped so much
Roxanne Aurinko opposite for me. Keto causing heart palpitations
@@CHOCOMUM33 u need more potassium n magnesium
After four months on keto, I've lost weight. I will see my cardiologist next month. I would like for him to evaluate my condition after weight loss. Which blood tests should I ask for, please. Watch all your videos. RN for 45 years!. Thank you for speaking out and supporting those of us who care. Cheers.
Thanks, Dr. Berry. I appreciate your information, but I appreciate your integrity even more.
Will a good fermented homemade sauerkraut work or Kiefer.?...or kombucha .....? And GOD BLESS
Thank you!
I have same question
I been on keto for two weeks I can feel the benefits all ready !! But no signs of the keto flu ?🤔
Best keto info. I feel like I am learning so much since I discovered you today.
Hi, Dr.
You are my favorite doctor I love your honesty and all the information you share with us... Thank you!
Dr Berry, you look so much healthier 4 years later than in this video. Great work!
(Going to eat between 1pm and 7pm only each day)
5) Can I take fish oil, coconut oil, and apple cider and vinegar?
6) Can I take a multi vitamin?
I really want to get it right so I'm trying to obtain the correct information and understanding. I'm GOING to regain my great quality of life back so my journey is life or death for me. Your help will be greatly appreciated !!!!!!
Many Thanks !
I am so thankful for the information and I’m starting this Friday! Nervous & excited at same time
Just want to take the time to give you a HUGE thank you Dr Berry!
Thank you!
Started a week ago , 1 inch , 6lbs lost , very happy .( Given up my daily milky Cocoa/ cappuccino )
Hi Dr. Berry, new sub here. Great videos, will you do one addressing keto rash, how to prevent it & the possible solutions to treat it? Thanks
My feet are cold all the time now. I've never had cold feet. In fact, when I was pregnant, I had to sleep with my feet in a bucket of ice water. This is the only negative thing I've experienced. I feel great!
I'm starting keto today. Just subscribed, your tips will undoubtedly be a go-to for me on this diet.
hows it going 1 month later
Thank you so much this is my go to video for everyone who gives me 20 questions!! Lol You explain everything better than I ever could.
Thank you so much for letting this knowledge out to the world❤️❤️❤️
just a note abt carbs re: dopamine
I started keto just a couple months ago, and within two weeks of beginning, I started smoking cigs again (had been quit 6 months). I told ppl I really had no idea why, I was feeling great and just found myself walking into a store and restarting smoking cigs like I'd never quit :/
to make matters worse, I've been a marijuana addict for several years (daily toker). I did quit weed about a 6wks after starting keto, but I fell off the keto wagon a bit soon after bc I craved junk food & cheeseburgers (specifically BK Whoppers) and I ate unhealthy crap for a week. Not exactly terrible (though I would wake up in a heavy depression, which sucked), but I just couldn't beat the cravings
your connection of carbs with dopamine just sent fireworks going off in my head - my smoking cigs again makes sense now (I understand why I went back to it), as do the 'munchies' I got AFTER I stopped the weed
thanks, I think understanding my cravings a bit better is going to help me beat them 👍
You left one out that I think should be addressed. “Keto Rash”
I got it 3 days ago, head to toe itching.
Hugs to you ❤️
really enjoying these vids, thanks dr berry
Ship Creek do you check your blood sugar levels? I used to get dizzy when I would forget to eat!
Thankyou for the advice Marjorie.
salt salt salt salt!
You need more salt
ANOTHER EXCELLENT VIDEO! THANK YOU SOooooO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS!
Berry!
Thank you for all that you do to help others
Can you please tell me the products I need to buy for constipation ? Pink Salt and Nu Salt ? Help.
Hi Dr , How about Keto Rashes ?? Please advise how to handle the same
The worst problem I had was hair loss.
I been eating "healthy" keep gaining weight, so today I started doing this, thank your for your advice
Dr Berry, you are the best!
Did he consider Brazil nuts, for example, as a natural and better means for addressing many of the complaints? Unless he has compelling science to the contrary, IMHO, he failed miserably to suggest Brazil nuts.
2 Brazil nuts a day will provide:
I got light-headed, had diarrhea intermittently and some insomnia. I'm past 2 weeks and loving it!
This is awesome! I have a couple friends/family who see my results and want information and this is perfect for me to send to them as an introduction! Perfect timing too as they've asked me just in the past few days! Thank you for this and all the work you do!
hi have you got a keto diet plan for a week to give us an idea what to eat for breakfast dinner and tea .
Dr.Berry, some women on a fB page ive been on say their hair has started making pigment again! One lady said she thought she was losing her mind when she had a hair that was white with black at about an 8th inch at the root!👍
Putting this video in my Keto group as "required" viewing. Thank you
Hi Doc. I have been on keto over a year now but, I have done better since I moved into my new home. I am really seeing the changes now.
I’m new to Keto on my 4th day got that Keto flu and fatigued glad you made this video very helpful thanks pray I don’t give up😜
Stephen Ledoux Sr pay attention to electrolytes, they are NOT an option!
I just love your straight forward approach. We look forward to videos and live feeds. Thanks, your videos have really helped me live the keto lifestyle.
Had a terrible headache the 1st 4 days then felt great.
Hi Dr, love your insights! I've done a plan before and it's very similar to keto, and I felt super amazing when I did it, so now I'm looking into going keto full time. I have a 5 month old baby and I was wondering if you could do a video on baby's first foods, what they should be, how much and when. Thanks!
Avocado, chia pudding, scrambled eggs
Can't wait to start my keto way of life. Thank you so much for all your help. You are the best!
Happy to see this information exist because I'm just starting out. Thank you
I loved his video! Love Keto!
Patricia Beetschen i so hope to get rid of reflux!
That’s it!! Also make sure your jar isn’t too full and don’t screw down the lid just sit it on top
five weeks into keto and still constipated . I've lost a stone in weight though which is very encouraging .
Thank You Dr Berry , I am so grateful for a real Dr. that has real answers for us about the keto diet .
Thanks for this excellent video ! 👍🏻
what do you think of resistant starch?
I am 6 days into Keto. It’s brilliant. But I’m feeling very nauseous in the morning and sometimes feel like my blood sugar is low (very shaky etc) but when I check blood sugar is actually fine.
It’s the nausea that is really troublesome - hope it goes anyway. Has anyone else had this?
I am on day 6 and have nausea and diarrhea, I noticed your post is about a year old was wondering how your doing now ?☺️
thanks for the video berry, I been on keto for 5 weeks and it keeps getting better and better every week . Had to the keto flu for 2 weeks but now passed that and feeling great.
