Recently found your channel and so thrilled I did! Even though I’ve worn wigs for a couple years, I lacked the confidence to alter them to make them my own. You have given me the boost I needed to give it a try! Thanks!
Tried the furniture pen method on my wig and worked like a charm!!! I covered the wide blonde streaks that I didn’t like and now it has warm brown shades all over, thanks Denise 😍😍😍
Im wanting to root & lowlight my light blonde wigs, what color furniture marker color should I use? I dont want it to look red. I want a nice medium brown or a hint lighter
Yes, the difference was very obvious! Wow, I think think this is a better idea than using any type of power that could blow away or even fall in your face! And you can paint where you want the rooting.
The coloring/rooting made such a difference. If you have natural dark hair, the rooting really helps you make the transition to lighter colors. Thanks!
Happy Thanksgiving, Denise! My question is which you suggest for low lighting wigs? Furniture touch up markers or Copic markers? I am very interested also on your experience of any color bleeding during wig wash and also what the texture is after doing the amazing low lights? I have watched & rewatched your tutorials and so very thankful for YOU & following your journey, experience, experimentation and enjoying the beauty of wigging UP! I thank you so much for you input.
I did a video on using permanent markers to add rooting, I've been looking for rooting videos n so glad to have found yours! I just think it makes them to look more natural.
I'm so glad it was helpful! I will warn you, though, I did try this on a blonde wig and it didn't work so well. I think the more dramatic the contrast between the marker and the wig the harder it is to get it to look natural. It has worked great on wigs where I just wanted the rooting to be subtle, though. :) I show the "fail" if you well in my Estetica Finn video.
What's nice about getting a variety pack of markers is you can draw roots in complimentary colors, like mahogany on a light reddish brown, or walnut on a light golden brown. Gives you some good options.
Hi Denise, Just came across some of your videos and was excited to see your method using furniture markers . I'm also excited to see that you are a sister in Christ. I pray that God will bless you and prosper you in all you do for His glory 🙏✝️. I do have a question, do you think the marker method will work on a dark brown synthetic wig to give light/medium brown chunky highlights? Thank you for sharing!
Thank you thank you thank you. I tried this with a cheap Paula Young, who has NOT so many colors and not so good quality, but less hair for a cooler wig. It worked great. I love that wig on you!
Hi Denise! coming to your channel quite late but hope you can help...I'd like to LIGHTEN dark brown and almost black rooting on grey/silver wigs. So far, I have regular synthetic only, but am keen to try Belle Tress Morning Storm( Heat Friendly) but roots look very dark. If I were reasonably confident that I could "fix" or break up the dark rooting by adding some ? white? or silver tones I would go for it.
Hi, Lily! Here is a video I did on this... you can only slightly lighten a dark root on a synthetic wig, here is how: th-cam.com/video/R-TrF2Y3pTQ/w-d-xo.html
Would you show the technique of adding roots to a non-mono synthetic wig (no part) in a GREY/Silver/White to (hopefully) camouflage the base? THANK YOU!
I just want to make everyone aware that using the furniture markers on really blonde hair to create a root can turn the roots green. I have experienced this myself. Just be careful and I just thought I would throw that out there. I don’t think it would matter if you’re doing it on dark hair but on blonde hair it really shows. I am going to try a dark brown sharpie!
This is great, thank you for this!!! I did do rooting on a blonde wig in my Tressallure Mia video... not sure if that one is considered REALLY blonde, but on that one I used Copic marker and not furniture markers. I don't really know if there is a significant difference between them.
What color Copic markers did you use? I used an alcohol marker in "chocolate" & made the light blonde wig red:-( I did remove tge red color by swishing it around in rubbing alcohol in my sink. But I want a medium to darkbrown root. What color do I need to buy?
Hi Denise, I know this is an old video but I’m hoping you get alerts when someone asks a question. Does the furniture marker work on heat friendly fibers and also human hair?
Thank you so much for sharing this. I definitely will give this a try on a recent wig I received which I think will make a huge difference in how it looks.
It totally will! I wore Girl Mono today and kept trying to figure out why she looked so different on me. Suddenly I realized that the markers had washed out quite a bit the last time I washed her and I need to touch her up lol. While they do not wash completely out, they do wash out a little and so you will need to plan to touch her up some here and there.
I wAs using a felt eyeliner pen and then just grabbed my husband Sharpie, but this is a great idea too! I also see that there are fabric markers and acrylic paint pens available as well. I'm going to try the paint pens next! Thank u!
@@EmpressLestat I want to know how they worked, Michelle!!!! I’ve done the furniture markers but the ink bleeds on your hands so I fear they it will bleed onto my clothes, etc. EEK!!!
Amazing idea! I have just received a Festa Deluxe by Ellen Wille colour Mocca lighted, the colour is overall lovely but I had not idea it has big lighted wide streaks on the front! I could try to tone them down a bit without running big risks 😉
Hi Denise.. Thank you for this video. Any idea which color of marker would be good to tone down the brassy looking highlights in the Tressallure Sunset Glow. I recently purchased an Avery and love the style .
I love your videos, very informative. I have a short wig "brown w/10% gray", non heat defiant. I HATE the color, cannot be returned. Do you think I can use several shades of furniture markers on it? I hesitate to try Rit dye for synthetic fibers since that requires boiling water, would probably ruin it. What do you think?
Thank you Denise, this is really helpful! I have just bought a red in 30/28/26. it doesn’t have enough dimension for me but I’m kind of afraid to use the darker colors on the rooting since this is a light red shade. Have you ever used them on that light of a color?
I have an Innuendo by Gabor, love the style but no rooting, I am going to try this, she is a straight wig so I must be careful since there are no curls if I make a mistake...fingers crossed, I have not been using it because I prefer roots on wigs but I am going to dive in...wish me luck :)...thanks for the video

Hi Denise I have a question. I just bought a wig from Paula Young called Arizona! She’s super cute but I have one problem. I ordered buttered toast because I have Jamie Lynn in that color and when I got it found it to be way too blond for me! I realize now my Jamie Lynn is butter toast rooted!! My question is would you try to root it? Or should I send it back and get honey and root that color this would be the third time I returned a wig to them!!
Great question.... will it cost you anything to return it and do you like that other color just as much? If it won't cost you anything and you like the other color then I would probably return. Rooting works great, but it does fade when washed so it might be better to just get a rooted one if you can.

No, but since I wear brunette color the caps are usually darker.... that said, I am careful to get it only on the fibers. The "ink" or whatever material is used in these markers isn't very liquidy so that helps to keep it from dripping or spreading as well.

Then I used the black, and that worked very well to add the illusion of darker rooting. I want to get another Isla soon, but will be more discerning with the shade and color. My usual TOB color has been Rooted Sandstone, which is lovely. Might go a bit darker the next time around...we'll see. Have a great evening!
@@dwseamhead that's awesome! I usually use the black as well... seems to give the right rooting effect. So glad it worked!!
Can you do the same rooting and lowlights on straight wigs?
I would imagine so- I haven't tried it but I cannot see why not.
straight styles become you :)
Thanks, Linda!
Has it ever bled into the cap on you?
No, but since I wear brunette color the caps are usually darker.... that said, I am careful to get it only on the fibers. The "ink" or whatever material is used in these markers isn't very liquidy so that helps to keep it from dripping or spreading as well.
