    I’ve used Copic markers (from the Art Supply store) in shades of light taupe to add ashy shadow rooting and lowlights on platinum shades, and it has come out fantastically well! Start with under layers to get comfortable. You have some working time to blot excess color with tissue as you go. On a darker honey blonde, you need more of a warm gray, rather than taupe to counteract the warmth. It’s easier than you think!

    Thanks for making such a fun and informative video.I recently bought a few inexpensive wigs to sort of experiment with.I have my own hair but honestly,the idea of switching up styles ,lengths and color is very appealing to me, plus no more bad hair days. Anyway I'm glad to know how to do the rooting and undertones. Thank you!

    I used the powder to hide my bald spots, before I gave up and started wearing wigs. So I just bought a BT Lemonade in Cream Soda Blond because she was really cheap and I wanted to try the style before I pay the normal BT prices,I have powder which I like and the spray that I do not like. Thanks Denise!! A make up brush works well too with the powder.

    New subbie here. You're awesome! A tip I can share is to section the hair with the end of a rattail comb and then weave the comb in and out of the section like hairdressers do when they highlite hair. Lay those woven sections down on a piece of copy paper to protect the other wig hair from over sray and spray them with the root spray. The results are perfect high or low lites depending on what color root spray you use. I usually do the root shadow first and blend in the highlites...

    Test and possible future video to do. I wear one wig seven days a week/ 12 hours a day until it wears out and then move on to the next. I was wearing Noriko May and am currently wearing Noriko Alva. Getting ready to move to Rene of Paris Scorpio. Anyway, I have been trying to find ways to have my wigs last longer. I bought this product.....Soapbox Bamboo Strength & Body Conditioner.....from Sally's Beauty Supply. The cost is around $11.00. I use it as a deep conditioner in that I put a good amount directly on the wig. Rub in well. Let it set for an hour or so and then rinse it out. They also sell a shampoo that I am thinking of using. I really think that the product has done an amazing job of softening the fibers of the wig. It hasn't helped with the ends from fraying but the general softening has been great. Perhaps this could be an alternative to use for conditioning/deep conditioning. Thought I would share. Would like someone else to test it out to see what they think.

    I loved the effect of the auburn red spray on the dark wig and may end up experimenting with that shade on a wig I'm ready to retire. I wonder if this brand would be as difficult to wash out of a wig as the L'Oreal Magic Root Cover Up is. Thanks, Denise, for the tips and demonstrations :)

    • @heywigsister
      @heywigsister  ปีที่แล้ว

      It is so funny you ask that! I received a handful of wigs as a donation from a wig sister for projects or to give away to those in need... they all had a TON of root spray on them (I could feel it) and after washing a lot of it was still there! I had no idea it was so hard to wash out but that is REALLY good to know! I rewashed a few of them to see if a second wash would help and concentrated a lot on the root area and they are better, but I can STILL feel it on there. I don't know about this but what I CAN tell you is that it does not coat the fibers nearly as badly as the Loreal stuff, so unless you have to use A LOT to get your intended result, I do think this will wash out much more easily.

  • @pattycarosi9618
    @pattycarosi9618 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you Denise these video's help so much. I am going to try the spray. Do you fill it's not as a heavy product like the store brand one's? I wasn't so happy with the way they made the wig fill. Thank you Denise your video's help so much you have no idea how much I appreciate your hard work. Have a great rest of your week. Stay safe! ❤

    • @heywigsister
      @heywigsister  ปีที่แล้ว

      I was so pleasantly surprised by how much lighter the spray felt on the wig fibers vs the Loreal Root Spray I had tried in the past... it still coats the fibers more than the powder, but it doesn't feel as sticky or heavy as the Loreal.... some of that will depend on how much you need to use to achieve the look you are going for, but all things being equal I like this stuff MUCH better!

    • @heywigsister
      @heywigsister  ปีที่แล้ว

      What blonde spray did you use? I have tried some that were WAY to heavy and sticky and made my wig feel terrible... this stuff is not nearly as bad as that and I really pleasantly surprised by it. NOW... it will all depend on how much you have to use to achieve your desired effect. Have you tried dry shampoo? I have never had a wig I thought was too shiny, but so many people swear by dry shampoo to tone down a shiny wig, it is THE MOST common suggestion I see. Just remember not all products are made equal so if you try one and it doesn't work then just try another... it may take a few trials to figure out what works best.

    Hi Denise great video! Do you think using the root powder would help in the front on the hairline? Jon Renault wigs are so dark at the hairline in the front. He doesn't take the highlights to the roots in the front. They always look so dark and harsh.🥰🥰

    • @heywigsister
      @heywigsister  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it could help.... but you may need to get a small makeup brush so you don't put too much on the lace... the thing is that it helps cover some of the dark rooting, but it isn't perfect and doesn't completely take it away... plus it might be hard to hide the dark knots and still blend with your skin. Have you tried translucent powder? Maybe a combination of this and powder would work?

    I am older and have an almost white wig. However, I have darker sideburns and they show ( back in there ) because the front is straight. Not cute! Can I put the Style Exit on my sideburns to disguise them and do they make white? Or do you have another idea?

    • @heywigsister
      @heywigsister  ปีที่แล้ว

      You sure can! They don't make white and I've learned that the reason it is impossible to find white root touch up and white hair fibers is because it really doesn't work that well... You can sure try to use the light blonde and see what happens. I don't think it will be perfect but it should help!

    Hi Denise 😊
    I have HM Brooklyn in 26GR and I have not been brave enough to wear her because she is much lighter than I am used to 😬
    I have both the powder and spray in a dark brown close to the root. Are those 2 colors too different to add more low lights or what would you suggest? Thanks! 😊

    • @heywigsister
      @heywigsister  ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, I would not recommend using the spray as I think it covers the fibers too heavily and weighs them down (I think for a light root it could be find but not sprayed throughout to add lowlights). As for the powder, I would recommend just trying it on an underside layer and see what you think... since it isn't permanent there isn't a huge risk. To be honest, when I want to add lowlights to a wig I use a marker... it is permanent but I love the way it works. Here is a video I did on that: th-cam.com/video/V6_e_mFhiUo/w-d-xo.html

    Such an informative video, Denise, thank you. I got given a wig a couple of years back, it was a lovely blonde shade but it had absolutely no rooting so I decided to do it myself (for the very first time too). I was so nervous but I think I did a really good job for a total amateur BUT girl, you nailed it for me with regards to the sprays. I used L'Oreal which was a good pick tbh, great soft brown/dark blonde colour, but unfortunately, it left the wig kind of stiff and "thick" for me. I probably used to much of it I guess but I tried very hard to be careful with it, just to use it in small doses. Such a pity. What would you suggest for the hairline of a blonde wig? I'm specifically talking about one shade of a brand in particular and that's Belle Madame 's Vanilla Root. The hairline is excellent in the wig but I still feel I need some powder right on the hairline at the top of my forehead. I just don't know what colour. Xx

    • @heywigsister
      @heywigsister  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would start off with a light brown and then go from there... it can be really hard to know what color to use without experimenting and trying. Normally if I am going to root a wig I want it to ALWAYS be rooted... in that case I would use alcohol based markers (I have a video where I show how to add rooting and lowlights with markers). I think they look much more natural and leave NO coating that you can feel on them. Here is the video I did on this: th-cam.com/video/V6_e_mFhiUo/w-d-xo.html NOTE: I use a Copic Marker in this video but I have also used Furniture Touch Up markers and what I love about those is they come in a multipack so you have lots of color choices and they are cheaper!

    • @deborahahonen6949
      @deborahahonen6949 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’ll add to Denise’s recommendation for Copic markers (which I get at the Art Supply store). I’m quite fair with natural light/ medium ash blonde hair, and I like a lighter ashy root, and Copic markers have a tremendous color range. I get several shades of light taupe and warm gray. I use light taupe on platinum shades and warm gray on any warm tones like honey. You have working time to blot off excess color with tissue. I’ve also used Joan Rivers “blonde” shade root cover, with is a medium/dark ash blonde. Sometimes I use the markers, then the powder to fill in. They come out great- the markers leave no residue!
