I'm a retired hair stylist and have been wearing wigs full-time for over 20 years. I own over 100 wigs. Still, every time I put on a brand new wig I think it looks awful! It usually just takes some experimenting with the position, styling, and band adjustment. Keep trying and you will get the hang of it!

Hi Denise, I had a lot of hair loss after having Covid. I have been researching wigs for 2 years and was so afraid to buy one. After watching almost all of your videos, you encouraged me to take that step. My first wig by Ellen Wille arrived this afternoon and I am so happy! My husband gave me so many compliments and could not believe how natural it looked. We are listening to music and dancing tonight because of you. I can’t thank you enough. This is certainly a ministry for you.

You just touched my heart. I'm literally tearing up. I'm so happy you found a wig that you love. I've been struggling for a year now and I haven't left my house except when it's dark and I could were a hoodie. I am federated. I have no one to talk to. I had beautiful long hair down to my hips. It took me years of house remedies to keep it from falling out and oil treatment to make it strong. It was annoying to do but when it was done it was thick and shiny. Everyone would stop me and give me compliments. My hair was my identity. My everything. I got sick and had to get a couple of surgeries. I stopped my normal hair routine

Continue...and lost all my hair. Anyway I guess I just vented in a comment reply. My point is that i am devastated and I made a wig. That was no good. Wigs do look wiggy. And I'm stuck right now. I'm actually morning the hair that I lost. I have a man buz cut. Down almost bald. But I would love to stop spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on wigs that I can't were because I can't fix them. It's so frustrating. Well if you guys red all this thank u for letting me rant

Hi Denise! I'm a pretty seasoned wig-wearer. One of my favorite go-tos are barrettes. Most wigs have open wefts so you can push the barrette through your wig AND your hair and you not only have styled your wig, but you've anchored it more securely to your head.

I went all out with my first wig. Human hair, hand tied full mesh top with open wefts for the rest. The colour the same as my bio hair. Found a great shop that sold the Jon Renau wigs. They spent two hours with me and taught me everything I needed to look after it for up to 7 years of daily wear. I’m at the 6 year mark, and I feel so confident wearing them now, that I just bought a coco envy and a Brittany envy. Just started playing with them tonight. It's so true that sometimes it's better to start out with mono top lace front because you know it's going to look very real. Then you become so experienced that you can wear a basic cap and you some of the tricks that you mentioned: put barrettes, bobby pins, hair bands everything strategically placed and you find that you've created something realistic looking. However that said I only need you that for work for instance where I'm not being stared at or moving around that much. But whenever you want something to look super real there's nothing like a monotop and a lace front. Or at least a mono part. All your tips are great. I'm a dark brunette who the wig shop owner at the time insisted that I try a blonde wig. I could not imagine that but I let her put one on me and for me it felt magical. I never thought I could pull off blonde hair, but I certainly can and basically that's all I wear now. Another tip is have a close friend who's very honest over for lunch and try on whatever wigs youve bought and ask her to write what she thinks in a little notebook that you give her. Have some wine come have some fun, and you'll feel really confident when you get someone else's input. Most of all give yourself the best chance of your wigs looking great by putting on makeup, don't forget the lipstick, and a nice shirt. No wig looks good on anybody without some makeup and jewelry on. You want a success!

I started before my hair loss was a real issue. I could go out in public right away and when it was time to go to the full wig I was already comfortable with the wig life. Best decision ever was to take the plunge and do it! You Tube videos helped immensely.

I've come full circle in my wig journey. At first I was like a kid in a sweetshop and bought a dozen different styles and colours but now I only ever buy the same couple of styles (which are very similar) and the same couple of colours (which are almost identical to my bio hair). For me changing my look from day to day isn't something I feel comfortable doing. The best way I find to keep my wigs from looking wiggy is to replace them regularly.

I have been losing my hair for a long time. I used toppix until that wasn’t enough. I then went to toppers. They helped me so much but now I don’t have enough hair to hold them on good. I’ve been looking at wigs over and over and watching wig videos. I started to prepare myself by telling two of my sister-in-laws that I was wearing a topper just to get out from behind the secrecy a little. I told my daughter and my husband that I was going to buy a wig, and got plenty of support. I’ve narrowed the search to a Godiva Secret wig that resembled my hair from years ago, and I’ll keep it brown because I can’t go wigs AND gray at the same time. I’m terrified! I know you said not to go with a basic wig cap first but I’m afraid the wig will look cheap and I can’t afford a 500.00 wig! I want the one I buy to work.

Your wig tips are perfection! Unfortunately, my first wig purchases were basic caps that I never wore out of my house. My first success was a Jon Renau hand tied wig with fairly low density. It took a couple of weeks of styling to get it just right. Since beginning my wig journey 15 months ago, I’ve learned that I am not a fan of permatease and must have at least a mono part. Your wig tips have been extremely helpful!

Hi Denise, great tips, I use all of them and they have helped, wigs came a long way but the next step would be great if wig designers realized ( I am sure they know already ) that our hair line at the front is not a straight one, rarely someone has a total straight line, so,, they need to come out with a more natural front lace that is not straight, wigs for the movies have that, they are not straight, I know it might be a bit more work but I am sure it would pay in the end, I would love to be able to have a pony tail or an up do and all the hair be pulled up away from the front with no pieces falling on the side, maybe we could start a petition so designers could go ahead and create the "natural" hair line, lol...thanks for the tips.

    • @jacksondowning173
      @jacksondowning173 ปีที่แล้ว +4

YES!! This is so frustrating. It’s exactly the same with men’s hair systems. A majority of men have natural recession..especially as they age. Yet you have to pay a lot of extra money to get anything but a ridiculously straight hairline. Plus, you often have to instruct companies to make the hairline hair graduated & somewhat sporatic--like real hair. No one should have to pluck hairs out of the hairline & temple line to make a wig/piece look more natural. They should be made that way! -It’s really unbelievable that a company hasn’t capitalized on this problem. They would have so many customers. --As it is, I have to cut some recession in to the stock systems I buy. This is not ideal and it shortens the wigs lifespan. But I’m not going to wear a “hair hat” like Tony Curtis did for the last 30 yrs of his life. -Which brings up another problem…wigs are often too dense. William Shatner went from being the punchline of hairpiece jokes in the 1980’s to, now, having one of the most natural looking full cap wigs I’ve ever seen. All it took was getting the appropriate recession, a graduated hairline and a realistic(thin) density. The rub is that he has to pay a small fortune to get this natural look. No one should have to pay extra to get a natural looking wig. It should be standard practice for even the most basic wig to look real without the buyer having to manipulate it.

Just wearing that wig pulled back on your forehead works wonders!! Not a soul would ever know. I have an Ellen Wille Dance I just started pulling back on my forehead with a claw clip and I am amazed how good it looks. I need volume up top so have stayed away from full monos. Plus, many mono tops are snug on my 22" head. The way you have this one styled is just spot on!

Awesome tips Denise!!! Starting with a color closer to your bio hair color helped me. Low density wigs helped. And at first the lace front was the most important to me but now Perma tease and basic caps are just as good for me.

This was just wonderful - you are wonderful. Thank you so very much. I feel a lot better about what I'm facing with my hair loss situation and the reality of having to move into wigs. I even feel a little excited about it now. Thank you. (my only wish is that I wish manufacturers would offer more medium browns in cool/ashier tones. Almost all of them have "caramel, ginger, golden, auburn, you name it" tones to them. I just need something medium brown with some cool undertones. Very hard to find. And it's too hard to do the warm ones because that is just not me - wigs are hard enough to get used to! (love your first tip for that reason-I just want to look like me:) Thanks again!

Oh my goodness! This video is exactly what I needed. Thank you so much for this video! I’ve been wearing wigs for over a year, but lately, they are just looking so wiggy to me. I used to use headbands, but the front of them looks wiggy now. I will try working with them more with clips. My problem is that I’m not very creative. You are renewing my faith in wigs and what drew me to them in the first place. This is not the first time you were right on point of what I’ve been feeling… Thank you, my dear.

Hey Denise! Totally agree with everything you've said. I love wearing baseball caps which has helped me transition to the feeling of a wig on my head. It took a LOT of trial and error to find a style/color that makes me feel like me, but I'm there. Mardi was NOT it in the long run. 😏 It's a journey for sure! God bless!
P.S. I found it a huge help to take pictures. They can look a lot less wiggy in photos...which helped me "retrain my brain".

Hello Denise. I just found U this morning. Without a long story, Ive lost more than half of my hair. After watching TEMU reviews I found same wigs on Amazon. I bought 3 wigs, they were delivered 2day. I completely forgot how terrible I look with long hair. The color of the wigs are so pretty, they do look "wiggy" Yikes! Im so thankful for you & your videos. ❤

My hair has been very thin and fine for most of my life. As I got older it got worse especially on top.I bought my first wig back in March (I think) because I was getting very self conscious about my hair (or lack of). I didn’t know where to go so I looked up a local store online and went. I ended up with Estetica Finn (I think). I loved it and it looked great. It took some time to get used to it (lots of hair) but my issue was that the owner/sales lady did not give me any info of what to do with it ie: washing, styling, what kind of fiber it was… and I was too naïve to ask. Thank God I found you! You have made my maiden voyage into the wig world easy and smoothe. I feel very blessed to have found you and your videos. Thank you so much!

After my most recent butchering/haircut~I felt like crying ~I decided to research and buy a wig~my hair is white with a little darker hair in back but oh so thin and it even looks terrible with a ball hat !! Anyway I will continue watching your videos before I buy a wig!! Thank you so much for sharing your expertise!!!

Agree with the advice to get a style close to your usual style. That would have saved me a lot of returns! But new wig wearers have to be sure they want to keep the wig before the attempt styling or modifications. I returned many wigs before I found the “one”. I know that I could make many of those returns work for me now but not in the beginning. It can be discouraging to do many returns but when you find the right one, things start to make more sense. There’s no shame or blame in returning many wigs until you find the right one. That victory will give you confidence to do modifications in future purchases. Thanks for the willingness to help new wig wearers.

I have been wearing wigs for 3yrs after loosing an inch of hair cover around the perimeter of my face in my early 60's. Being older may have helped me as I had just a month or so of "Well, who are you?" to the "Let's stay together" phase. By now I thought I'd picked up all the tricks, but recently purchased a puffier than usual pixie wig in 3 colors for this summer, and found I just wasn't getting used to the bouffant. Your "bobby pin under the top layer trick" hit a bullseye for that style for me! I do everything else under the sun and wear dozens of styles in all shades successfully, but here I was stumped!
I mostly wanted to reach out to say that your attitude, personality, and benevolent nature is truly a blessing! None of my friends know I'm wearing one unless I tell them, mostly because I only buy high quality wigs with lace fronts or all hand tied. @@heywigsister Thank you for asking! I got RW Winner in Chestnut. I like the way it fits and for the short time I had it on it was comfortable. The problem is that it looks so wiggy. Even a stranger would know it was a wig. I need my sister and niece to see it and go from there. I think if I would have gotten a rooted color it would be more natural looking. I'm going to watch your video on rooting a wig and see if maybe I can do something with it. It was 50% off so I can't send it back. As it is now I won't be wearing it outside of the house. LOL! Hey Wig Sister! I watched all of your beginning videos and they really came in handy when I started to get my first wigs. I styled them, plucked them, used foundation & powder to hide lace and knotting, trimmed bangs, added combs/barrettes, hair bands, the whole shebang. Then took pictures. My brain recognizes the color and curls- it’s kinda weird. I have a widow’s peak so it’s difficult to find wigs that fit my hairline and that look convincing. Unfortunately, I’m still not comfortable wearing them outside but I do try them on and wear them inside the house. Honestly, they still look too wiggy for me to go outside. 😣
Maybe one day I’ll find the right combination.🤞
