2:17 MY DUDE RIGHT HERE HAD NO RIGHT TO BE A SAVAGE AND SCOOP THAT NOTE. It's something you would never think to hear but oh my god it works so well when you hear it. Almost violin-like.
I played this in college in 2016. I was first clarinet and I’ve always adored the little clarinet solo in the beginning. What strikes me is how different this clarinet player plays it. He pays it much more legato, and even. I always liked a little more variation in articulation and shaping of the phrase. Different tastes! The ending is wild fun.
Good call, using a BBb contrabass clarinet in place of the (rarely available) contrabassoon. It comes through especially well in the little pokes behind the English horn on "We Wish you a Merry Christmas".
OMG, we just had tmea region clinic/concert a while ago. We had this same conductor and this same piece of music. I love that conductor and I loved my region experience. Nicholas, if u see this, I want to tell you that you're the best conductor I've ever had.
im playing this in my highschool band next week and im so excited because im the alto soloist and im the only freshman in that class! spooky christmas is my favorite
This is not an easy piece. They just make it sound easy. Lol. My band I'd playing this for our Christmas concert and it has been a challenge but it's a fun song to play.
@@christianortiz324 My school plays as high to grade 7 but we commonly do 3-4.5. the reason why I knew this is grade 5 is because my school is ACTUALLY playing this music on December 10th. I'm still trying to get that high G up on S for first Trombone.
@@christianortiz324 yes it is. It's why this COLLEGE is playing this piece lel. Just the amount of shock I had when October by Eric Whitacre was a grade 3.

Best version I've heard on TH-cam so far
1:59 if this sounds familiar, it’s a reference to Shostakovich’s 2nd waltz
Can’t wait to play this for my winter concert in wind ensemble this year
Played this in middle school... still jealous of the alto sax part.
I wish my band had that many euphoniums.
Horn section is awesome!
Playing this piece this year and did they change the sax solo from away in a manger to that song i forgot?

Respectfully, I am in love with the English horn player…

The tenor sax part is so bad😭 someone save me
some timing and articulation issues, but good
Why were the crash cymbals a bit early on square B
I know this is a simple piece they probably sight read, but come on put some musicality into it.
its a lot better than you could do and its actually up there with the dallas winds
