About Supermutants. They are deep part of Fallout lore - they;ve been in the game since the first Fallout (in fact, they were the main antagonists there). They were humans mutated by FEV - forced evolution virus. When you encounter Suiciders - shooting them in their right hand will cause them to explode at once.

    Mike: (opens wall safe)
    3 minutes later:
hack the terminal to open a safe
Mike: I wonder what safe it opens? Surely it can't be the one connected by the think black cable, the one I just opened 3 minutes ago and forgot about?
There is an exploit. Some NPC like it when you pick locks.
1.So you come to this location with that NPC.
    2. Use terminal to engage lock
    3. Pick lock
    4. Go upstairs and sleep for 2 hours

Blood Packs, Purified Water and Irradiated Blood make a super stim pack at the chemistry station, use the Healing section on the chemistry station menu.
The reason walls won't snap to the lower section of that structure you built, is because you used the stilted floor segments, walls will only snap on the top edge of that flooring option. So here's what you do. Workshop/Scrap or Store those floor sections. Because you have wall sections already in place for the second story of the structure, you can replace those floor sections that you removed with the piece called Upper Floor. Building tree looks like this: In workshop mode - Structures/Wood/Floors -scroll right until you see the foundation block - the next couple floor options you'll see are called Upper Floor pieces. If you notice they are double thick unlike the first few selections you get at the left end of the build menu bar. They are twice as thick, because they are a floor and ceiling piece combined. The lower portion is tagged to snap to the top of wall tiles and the upper portion is tagged to snap to the bottom of a wall tile. You may need to move the upper wall piece to get the Upper Floor sections started, just select that wall piece, set on the ground, place the Upper Floor section in, and move the removed wall section back to its former location. Are you following the process I wrote, if so cool, if not reply and I'll see if I can help further.
Collisions are the biggest headache to solve in workshop mode, and the reason things don't snap where you think they should snap. Sometimes there's a simple trick like the pole or rug glitch tricks. Other times it's just way easier to download a mod called Place Everywhere...
There are still locations west and north from Sanctuary and Vault 111 you missed, one is a designated random encounter zone, so you can find anything there, trapped root cellar hatchways, a guy from the Atom Cats strutting around in his hot-rodded Power Armor, locked fridges, scavengers, just really random and sometimes hilarious things happen there. It's a good place to visit from time to time because you never know what you're going to stumble across. When you see the high tension towers, follow them north and south, and you'll find stuff, the same applies to the tower system at Abernathy farm.
I don't want to spoil your first time with too much giveaways, but, be warned, in Olivia you're going to want frag grenades.. several.. and lot's of heals.

Gear to settlers, the " road leathers " are a good base outfit, armor fits right over the top. And there are TONS of them in game, so its a good option for the filthy wastelanders that live in your places. All the crafting stations in a given place are connected. So if you have mods in the main workbench, you will access them when you use the weapons work bench. No need to move them.

2 tips about laser muskets. You can hold the reload button and your character will automatically crank it full. And just like a real life musket, it is a single shot, but with more cranks on the laser musket, it generates a more powerful shot. And pull and hold trigger to shoot both barrels on the shotgun.

Once you install a settlement beacon, settlements can get up to 25 or more settlers. It largely depends on your charisma. I've had some settlements (always the most awkward & small) get as many as 42 settlers when I'm maxed out with no place left to build more beds/water/crops.
My advice? Don't put up settlement beacons at all your settlements. That way if your population gets to high at a smaller location, you can ask some settlers to move to one of the locations you haven't built a beacon. You can do that with the "Local Leader" perk that also allows for provisioners (sharing worldbench inventory).
A lot of times what I do is... once I take a settlement (have access to workbench)...I put up the beacon just long enough to get 2 settlers. One I make a provisioner. The other I leave to tend crops, so that there's some food supply available should I need send a companion or another settler there.
Once I amass TONS of caps and junk, then I start building. I determine the size (how many beds/water/crops)... if it's too small I'll just manually send over settlers from larger settlements. If it's big like Sanctuary or Starlight Drive-in...I'll go ahead and put the beacon back up when I'm ready to build there.
Settlements can become a real headache that's got you running all over the place with their endless needs & that distract from the main mission.

Another tip! Don't bother with building walls around your settlements (unless you like the aesthetic). Their a waste of resources. The game is designed in such a way that it forces you to show up to defend the settlement regardless of where enemies spawn.
You will still lose crops & need to make repairs to generators, turrets, & water pumps if you don't show when the settlement is under attack. Turrets basically buy you time to show up.
For defense, I strictly use turrets and A LOT of them with the understanding that the game will still punish me for a no show & the game does not care if you're right in the middle of a main quest. Keep that in mind, when choosing to take on settlements & how many before completing the main quest.
Also, ABERNATHY FARM... do not log in to the workbench & begin to build that settlement till you got enough junk to build a defense of at least 80 in Turrets.
Too many times, I've logged in to Abernathy, not had enough junk, had to leave to get the (gears/circuitry) to build defenses & as soon as I left (even to just the neighboring Red Rocket) it comes under attack only for me to find Lucy Abernathy obliterated all over the melon crop. It's always Lucy or their pet cat in what's cost me hours of play time to go back and do over in effort of saving them.
Generic "settlers" don't really die in combat unless you kill them by accident, but don't expect consistency in Fallout 4.
For instance, the Sanctuary NPC's cannot be killed. Trust me. I've tried to take out Marcy Long MANY times (take my advice...assign her a task FAR AWAY from the workbench). Also, the Grey Garden NPC's aren't killed in combat by enemies.
BUT... some of the NPC's at some of the settlements can be killed by enemy combatants when the settlement comes under attack & you don't know who's who till you find one of them splattered... like Lucy Abernathy.
I'm tempted to upload my settlement builds. Mine are all vanilla builds from the off-the-shelf disc. No mods. No DLC's and no creation club and all on a PS4. I like to think I'm a bit of a settlement build expert.

Any weapon you put into the Workshop at a settlement, the setlers of that settlement will auto equip. So the Rocket launcher you put down, will probably get picked up by someone at Sanctuary at some point.
Any weapon you wish to keep for yourself, should be stored at a Container you build yourself. You can use already existing containers, but some of them will reset their inventory, so it's safer to build one for long term storage.
In the case of an attack on one of your settlements, all the settlers there will help defend it. The posted guards are just to raise the Defence score of the settlement. The defense score will limit the number of attacks, unless you have an abundense of resources. I'm not sure what the Defence score needs to be to outright scare off any attacks, but I'm sure it's high, because even my most defended settlements seems to be attacked anyway.
Also, you can upgrade the Vaultsuits at the Armor workbench, making them the best armor undergarments for the entire game.
You can listen to Holotapes without having to stay in the Pipboy menu. The tape will keep playing after you close it.
Muttfruit gives 1 Food resource per plant, where all other grovables only grant 0.5 Food. So Assigning people to Muttfruit plants will make more Food resource gathered.
I never build anything, unless I put down the Concrete foundation found in Wooden structures first. That goes for walls too.

    • @richardhoedt8947
      @richardhoedt8947 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Okay, couple of additions/corrections here.
Yup, settlers will grab a weapon from a nearby container, but only when the settlement is attacked, and only if they consider it a better weapon and they either have the ammo for it or can get that ammo from the same container. Still, to play it safe, it's indeed a good idea to store your valuable keepsakes away from prying hands. For the same reason, it's recommended to take your fusion cores out of your power armor when you park it, btw.
There are several clothing items, and a few headgear that can be upgraded at the armor bench. Combining that with regular armor pieces can be amazing in the late game. However, you'll need to unlock the ability to upgrade clothing (including the vault suit) in-game. There's an undercover faction that can help you with that, once you get on their good side.. [and that's all I will say, because spoilers].
Settlers assigned to farm will actually farm up to 6 food worth of crops. So 6 mutfruit trees, 12 cornstalks, or whatever combination adds up to 6 food. So it doesn't matter what crops you plant, farmers provide 6 food each.
You don't need foundations to build anything, although they can be useful to give yourself a flat surface to work on. However, they also cost resources (especially the concrete one) and take up some of the maximum number of objects you can build at a settlement. (The bar in the top right while workshopping). So decide accordingly.

Also really important tip: if you open the Start menu during the game (the one with Save, Load, Settings, etc), there's an Help section with lots of very valuable information that the game doesn't otherwise teach you about all sorts of game mechanics.

I don't know how you feel about that, but I'd certainly take a special side-content bonus video of just you decorating Sanctuary, just a chill hour of you musing whether or not this room should have a rug or not and why.
And if you come to that, here's some hidden mechanic: if you hold and press A in front of an object, you'll "pick it up" in front of you, you can then use the Triggers to rotate it - pressing Left Thumbstick change the axe of rotation (X, Y, Z). It's useful if you see a box/cart/basket while scavenging and you want it's content but can't access it (like the shopping cart in this episode, or sometimes woodden box on top of shelves) - pick it up in your hand, rotate it, shake it a bit and the stuff will fall on the ground. (Once you're "holding an item" you can also Press and Hold X and release it to "throw" the item away, it's useful if you want to "throw" at your enemies those red cylinders dotted around that you've yet to figure out are dangerously explosive lo)
But also, it's great for decorating. You can drop Junk Item from your inventory, and then manipulate it around the environment, like putting a Teddy Bear on a bed or stuff like that.

Also as an FYI.. All your workbenches are connected within your settlement.. So no need to take mods out to put in a weapon.... Just leave them in any workbench at your settlement and craft away. In addition any armor with prefixes like strengthened, lightweight, etc.. Do have specific Perks to them... While you are in your workbench, say for armor, and you are looking at strengthened leather arm piece for example, click on the the "strengthened" and then you will see what perk it gives...

Hurray! The next video :) I play this a lot.
A few things you might like to know:
    1) Any item you can mod at an armor or weapons workbench you can rename (I don't know if you can do this on console). I like to put a period or dash in front of the name of the items I want to hang on to (you might have to shorten the name of some things). This sorts them to the top of your inventory and you won't mistakenly unequip or trade them.
    2) I keep fashionable glasses and some apparel that boosts charisma. When I get in a conversation I look away so I can access my inventory and equip these items and it boosts my charisma by 3 points. Helps when you need to do harder "charisma check" responses (i.e. yellow, orange, red replies). For red you'll probably want charisma 10 or better. There's other clothes that have a charisma perk.
    3) The higher your charisma the lower the cost of most things from merchants.
    4) Unless you're attached to fashionable glasses, black rim glasses have the same perk and look a bit better.
    5) Welding goggles or wrap-around goggles perk into perception which helps in VATS.
    6) The mods you're carrying use a lot of weight. Store them in the workshop. Workbenches will indicate to "equip" them rather craft them if available.
    7) If you get your hands on a "Drifter Outfit" or "Cage Armor", those have better base protection than the Vault-suit and you can wear armor on top of them.
    8) Selling purified water is a good way to make caps. There's a "bug" where having "dirty water" stored in the workshop will prevent purified water from spawning in the workshop. Pull these out of the workshop and use any container nearby (or make a container) to store them. Eventually you'll start to accumulate more purified water depending on the number of purifiers you've built. Just keep harvesting it when it shows up and storing it in your container. If you want to fast-travel with a boat-load of water then you'll want to perk into "Strongback" under "Strength" at least 4 points.

  • @ProjectBoredomKiller
    @ProjectBoredomKiller 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Okay, just finished watching as I set this to my bedtime story video. So I decided to subscribe. Also wanted to expand my list from below:
    9) There's a button you can use to activate "build mode" rather than activating the workshop all the time. I don't know if you have a settings game menu that lets you configure controls but the button should be shown there. Also, while in a settlement an occasional notification will show up letting you know what button to use.
    10) If you build a settlement beacon to attract more settlers to assign to tasks, make sure you have enough beds, food and water. The higher your charisma the more settlers you will attract. Also, wearing charisma perk items will be factored into this. So it may be a good idea to wear those items when you're building if you want to push the population increase. If you're settlement happiness drops below 20% you risk all of them leaving.
    11) Prewar money and synth components sell for a good price considering their weight (0 lbs). So I usually store them in my water container as a sort of savings account. Otherwise they just get broken down for components in the workshop.
    12) I haven't seen you access the workshop inventory from any of the workbenches so I thought I'd mention that.
    13) Build an anti-radiation shower to clean up the rads you accumulate.
    14) Now that Carla is showing up at Sanctuary you can sell off unused weapons and armor to her for caps instead of scraping them. Remember to dress up in your best charisma clothes and glasses. You can also trade these items and purified water for junk items such as "shipment of screws... adhesive... gears", etc. Just drop these shipments in the workshop inventory. They'll break down into actual screws, etc. as soon as they're used.
    15) "Skooled Zone" TH-cam channel has a lot of no-mods build tutorials and glitches you might like.
    16) Building will consume a lot of time (I love this part). The upside is you get XP for every new item you build. It's not uncommon to level up while you build.
    17) There's a garden plot of sorts under "Resources->Miscellaneous" you can place on just about any surface. Using this you can build some pretty wild farming structures. I usually make a 3 story open structure with these on each level.
    18) Tatos, corn and mutfruit are the things to grow for adhesive. I'd dis the gourds and melons and put settlers on the former unless you're using them for something specific.
    19) Scaffolding I think is one the best "quick 'n dirty" ways to make turret towers. Unfortunately I don't think the pathing has been set up for NPCs to walk the scaffolding stairs (or there's some other issue with them) so if I use them for guard towers I use the stairs from some other section.
    20) Traffic jambs can occur on most stairs except for ones without rails (like the wooden ones). If you get a lot of these jambs then use the "rail-less" stairs.
    21) Collect Squirrel Stew (or Squirrel Bits to make it) as it gives you a 2% XP bonus for 2 hours. I don't remember the exact ingredients but Squirrel Bits and dirty water are the hardest to come across.
    22) Higher intelligence improves your XP for leveling. Also check out the Idiot Savant perk. Although it has a stupid-annoying sound effect when it activates, this will improve XP gain regardless how much intelligence you have.
    23) I'm not sure if you have the Game of the Year Edition which comes with the Automatron DLC. Once this quest starts you gain the ability to build robots that you can assign to tasks or have as followers. You can build some pretty bad-ass robots too! The downside of them is they tend to push the happiness level down a bit for any settlement they're assigned to as their happiness cap is 50%.
    24) Mama Murphy can be regained to assign tasks if you force her to stop taking drugs. But it's been a while since I did that so I assume you need to use the most agreeable responses which may require good charisma to pass.
God, I could go on and on. I don't really want to talk about the storyline itself but I figure simple tips like this would be okay. Let me know if I've spoiled anything.
Also, I have the Game of the Year Edition. If you're using Vanilla Edition then I may have mentioned some build items you don't have access to. If so, apologies for that.
Hope this helps and see you next ep :)

The enter build mode shortcut I am aware if but it doesn't always work for me, the prompt comes up a lot but it never seems to want to enter it for me so I've had to walk back to the actual workbench a lot annoyingly
Is Idiot Savant still worth getting even with a high intelligence? I assumed that was a build specific perk.

The cement foundations are great because you can sink them into the ground and match them up with the existing foundations or just link wood floors to them. Tip: I dont think youve gotten the mods off those weapons you scrapped at 1:08:45. They don't show up when you store your (other) mods afterwards, so I think you just scrapped the lot of it.
If you want to pull the mods off, convert the armor or weapon to the basic version first, THEN scrap it. In the case of weapons, it' ll often cost you some components (for crafting a standerd receiver, for example), but you'll get most of those back once you scrap it afterwards.
Also: If you ever want to scrap items that dont show up in the workbench (like those piles of raider leathers or other clothing), you can drop them on the floor, switch to workshop mode, and scrap them there.

    • @groovemoustache
      @groovemoustache 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@mike-thegamingdad The mods you have in your inventory are those that were replaced by those you've built. You have the "10mm Standard Grip" in your inventory because you've built the "10mm Comfortable Grip" which took out the Standard one - If you were to build a "10mm Hardened Receiver" it would then remove the "10mm Standard Receiver" that's currently on it and put it in your inventory.
If you see a mod you want on a weapon, simply build a lower-tier of that mod to replace it - the stronger one will then be taken off the weapon and put in your inventory - when you'll "build" it on your weapon it then won't take resources, only the mod from the inventory.
That's why you shouldn't sell lower-tier mods, to use them to switch around more powerful mods. You can test how that works next time you build an upgrade on a weapon: take notice of the one you had, build the stronger one, and now you can simply switch between both without having to spend resources to build either one of those.

I noticed. I got a bad habit of commenting before watching entire episodes - especially when they are long form videos. Great to see you enjoying this for the first time. Thanks for the videos, mate. I’m about halfway through your latest episode. Love it.

Yeah that’s sort of the allure of these games. You won’t get everything first time around but, like Skyrim, “dungeons” are randomly chosen for some quests and you’ll go back there at some point for another settlement mission.
One thing: if you’re going somewhere for a quest (like Corvega) with named characters, be careful you don’t miss anything. Some of these have unique, one off weapons or outfits that you won’t get again. I’m sure you could type in the name of a quest you’ve been given and search “any missable items” and get a spoiler free idea if there’s anything missable like weapons or armour. None of the magazines or bobble heads are missable so you’ll always be able to go back.

I'm all caught up 🎉 I've ducked your Skyrim let's play. I'll go back to it, but I took a break from Fallout 4, decided to give Skyrim a chance (I didn't make it past the beginning the first time), and I couldn't put it down. I can't go back yet. I need to finally "finish" Fallout 4... don't get me started on my Dead Island 2 break 🤦‍♂️
So I'm not going to spoil things. A few tips though. 308 ammo is scarce early game. It's my choosen round, so I buy it. Dogmeat is like a suitcase 😂 Clear the area, load up, and then fast travel back n forth until you strip it clean. If you buy stuff at vendors and sell stuff you don't want it will help load caps. The vendors sell various shipments of junk. It's a higher cap purchase but Carla sells a shipment of 25 oil for 500ish caps. Shipments have no weight, just deposit them in your workshop.
Oh and you mentioned a suggested channel about building. I personally have 2 favorite FO4 content channels "Skooled Zone" and "Wasteland Dovahkiin". I learned too much from them. If you want a rabit hole of everything from stats to lore, Oxhorn is probably the absolute go to on Fallout. I'm digging the series, look forward to the next installment, and wish you all the best in your journey ✌️❤️

Query; Did you build the recruitment beacon for this settlement? I suggest that when you make a settlement make sure that you build at least 10 beds and more if you have room to place them at all settlements. I play this game on my PC and if you are looking at your menu from the workshop look in the drop down menu under wood/floors and there is a floor that has a lower and an upper floor on one item and it will allow you to add lower and upper flooring from that piece and that allows you to add upper and lower floors with walls all around that gives you many different possibilities to explore. Happy building!

Just a small suggestion...Make a couple storage containers to put in your extra weapons and armor....I would not recommend putting any Weapons/Armor in the workbench(s) as they may get broken down when building stuff in the settlement.

1:16:06 pipe bolt action riffle is cheaper , easier (less perks needed) to modify and bit weaker alternative to hunting riffle. you can eventually modify hunting riffle to use .50 cal (second strongest riffle ingame after 6 crank changed laser musket) , while i doubt if pipe bolt rifle can be modified to use .50 cal

It's pointless to wall up your settlement bc enemies will spawn inside. If you leave weapons and 1 of each ammo for the corresponding weapon in the workbench, your settlers will use them and have unlimited ammo.

Yeah was worried that may be the case, I may do it still purely for the aesthetics, I do enjoy games that have some form of 'build mode', can be cathartic when you need something different to shooting ghouls 😅

Sorry to keep commenting lol. But its a long video with interesting things to discuss. The part at the end is a random event location. They are scattered around the game and can produce some funny encounters, some pretty scary ones as well as some important ones. I forget how many are around but there are plenty. In this case its the eye bot that shows up. I have had it be all sorts of things, and you can go back to it and it will be different theoretically each time.

If you have a safe that can be unlocked by a computer, If you manually unlock the safe and then hack the computer you get XP for both. If you hack the computer and use it to open the safe you only get XP for the hack.

A combat tip: if you're right up against a corner or a walls edge, press the aim button and your head will actually peek out to look out of cover. As for junk stuff obviously, you want to pick up as much as you can but those that you want to pick up are stuff that has electricity associated with it like anything you plug in like lamps, hot plates, light bulbs, fuses, circuit boards, alarm clocks and so on.

Two future perks to think about when you level up are 1, Fortune Finder (find more Caps in the world) and 2, Scrounger (find more ammunition in the world). To improve weapons damage another two perks to think about are 1, Gunslinger (pistols do more damage) and 2, Rifleman (non-automatic rifles do more damage). When you were improving the Hunting Rifle at the Weapon Workbench you should have improved the receiver to a Powerful receiver as that takes the weapons damage to 55. Best regards Gary.
