The winner of the recent poll on the channel was Fallout 4, so that is what I'll be playing next on the channel! I have never played any of the Fallout series before so this will be a blind playthrough. I'll record episodes of this and drop other bits of content in between, I hope you enjoy!

Always pick up drugs like buffout, mentats, jet, grape mentats, etc. Grape mentats are good to take before bartering because you’ll get better prices. Mentats are needed to make the grape version. If nothing else, they’re worth decent caps and are a good weight/value ratio.

Sometimes you'll pick up quests by overhearing conversations by NPC's. Two guys were talking as you were walking to Valentine's and you got the Follow the Freedom Trail quest...it will introduce you to another faction in the game

Even if you're not going to use them, drugs have a very good value for weight. Also pick up anything that has adhesive in, you'll need that later. Also you can use fans and other electrical items to break down to make turrets to protect your settlements.
Yeah on reflection I think I'll pick them up to sell because after 5 episodes I didn't even have enough caps for the Spray N Pray weapon 🤣 so drugs + water can be my method of getting a lot more 👍🏻
You're fine to listen to the random radio signals that pop up. Most, if not all, are part of the storyline & drive you towards new/existing quest lines. It's the music stations you don't want to listen to.

At sanctuary, build a steamer trunk and put all the armour you want to use to equip your settlers. Then craft a bell and ring it for all your settlers to assemble at the bell. Then when you’re ready you can equip them all at once without wandering all over your settlement looking for them.

TIP.... This applies only to enemies you have killed. Say u kill an enemy and you go to loot them and they are carrying (10)10 mm rounds and a 10 mm pistol. You should take the ammo, obviously, but also take the 10 mm pistol as it adds 10 mm bullets on top of the 10 rounds you picked up from the enemy and then just transfer the pistol back into the enemies inventory so u don't carry the additional weight of that pistol on you. And that goes for all the ammo types and guns they have in the game. Only Enemies you kill this applies to! Enemies you find already dead... the gun(s) they are carrying will not give you additional ammo of that gun type.

I hope you picked up Piper as a follower. Each follower (not Dogmeat) has "affinity" with you - home much they like you. When the score reaches 1000, you get a perk. Piper's perk doubles the amount of experience you get from discovering new places and passing speech checks. Once you get teh perk, you can let the follower go - perks stays permanently.
Ah okay that's good then, I did get her as a follower option by doing the interview but she's still in Diamond City. I can go back and get her at some point

Drugs are almost always worth picking up if only for the weight to value ratio. They weigh ⅒lb and are usually worth around 50 caps.
In fact in my games I use drugs and unneeded ammo basically like additional currency. As ammo weighs nothing you can have thousands of rounds of something you don't use (5mm for me since I didn't use miniguns). When I'm at a merchant I buy what I want, then sell drugs and ammo until the deal comes out in my favor, either free or they pay me most of the time.
Pre war currency is also good for this.
Also if you are going to break down weapons and armor, look into the scrapper perk. It will give you more components when breaking down items, letting you use those components to make new mods. Additionally, if you can remove mods before scrapping, you might be able to reuse them later.
I do have the scrapper level 1 perk but I'm guessing pipe weapons don't give those materials, as I've broken a rifle down and got stuff like springs from it? I think in future I may either just sell or drop pipe weapons, as I have over 1k steel now at Sanctuary
Thanks for the heads up re. drugs. I don't think I'll use them (I will most likely do a "scumbag" playthrough where I drink, take drugs and generally do the bad choices) but this one I'm gonna stay clean I think 🤣. So in that case I'll sell them as a way of getting caps 👍🏻
@@mike-thegamingdad I believe pipe weapons give aluminum (aluminium) and copper which are both relatively rare materials so it's still good for those second level shows you to get electronics from laser weapons which can also be handy. I'm currently playing an idiot build, so it's not something I use much, but he's also not a big settlement guy. Luck 10, agility 7, strength and charisma 3 and all the rest 1 so the idiot savant perk is key. It does however mean I have to rely on drops for any weapons mods which kinda sucks, but with luck I crit more often in VATS so that's nice.

@@mike-thegamingdad the only real downside of idiot savant is it plays a very annoying sound every time it triggers which can get old.
One tip to help save materials is check for cheaper crafting recipes. The beds for example have several recipes and unless you are concerned with looks any of them will work.

Exactly. Great for trading with the paranoid lady in Diamond City. You can get a nice pile of junk for free essentially. You really need very little in the way of caps in this game if you know how to manipulate the systems.
Are any worth using? I'm more just avoiding addiction to be honest but I know there are ways to cure it as well 🤣
@@mike-thegamingdad Lots of folks use Jet for aiming but I prefer the VATS system. The XCell and Daytripper give you enough " charisma " that you can put more settlers in a place than allowed by the silly game mechanics.
@@mike-thegamingdad I don't normally bother using them (prefer to sell for caps!) but if I do it's either Grape Mentats for significantly better trading prices (especially when wanting to buy something expensive), and Buffjet in the trickiest situations as it slows time, increases strength and endurance, and temporarily increases your max AP and HP all at once (if you don't find enough outright, you can just combine Buffout and Jet at the chemistry workbench). If I'm worried about a speech check I'll move away from the conversation, change into all my charisma boosting clothes, then chug a beer or similar for the extra +1 charisma.
Addiction really isn't a big deal as it only debuffs and is easily cured (more of an issue in survival mode) so you can either just buy and carry Addictol to cure it on the go, or fast travel back to Diamond City to the doctor!
Separately, I know you haven't travelled with companions so far as you've got lone wanderer, but I think it's worth travelling with them at all some point in a first playthrough! When you reach max affinity with each of them you get unique, permanent perks, and there are sometimes additional loyalty quests that are fun to complete. Plus, for me, it's nice learning their back-stories as they open up to you 😊
@mike-thegamingdad I like psychobuff gives +65 hp for 8 minutes, +3 endurance, +3 strength and +25% damage and you scream like a psycho when it used

@@mike-thegamingdad Great weapon, but it does blow through .45 ammo. Another option in the early game, especially if you're not keen on VATS, is to mod your own pipe automatic weapon, which uses the ubiquitous (and cheap) .38 bullets. You'll have to do without the explosive effect, mind you, unless you are lucky enough to find a legendary weapon with that effect already on it. It also won't do huge damage-per-second unless you do some upgrades, either through scavenging mods or making them with Gun Nut perks. But it beats having to buy .45 ammo.

And offcourse a new set of tips ... as you said ... they made it so that it's really worth it to explore. If you fast travel a lot you will miss a lot of random encounters (positive and negative) I reserve my fast traveling for when my base is under attack or I'm really far away and over-encumbered.
Do you know you can often pull boxes from shelves and such ... for instance I one found 2 power cores in a box on a shelf ... would have never found it if I did not pull out that box.
Don't ally yourself too far too quickly with in-game factions. You might ruin some chances in the game.
You are low on charisma "sharp" outfits give extra charisma and can be worn under your armor. Also drinking alcohol also boosts charisma but blurs your vision for a short while ... and you can get addicted

Was there any relevance to the stand off in the square (where someone's head got blown off)? Or was that only to show you the aftermath of Pipers article on synths and what the mayor/authorities are trying to quash/cover up?
@@mike-thegamingdad both. The paranoid thinking you will see everywhere in case the player missed it earlier. It will influence your later game choices
Fairly sure you can talk to all the people in the random event instances for some extra dialogue as to what’s going on. Similarly to when you picked up the Freedom Trail quest before entering valentines, you got that from the two guys talking out front but you walked by and missed the conversation 😊

Use VATS to aim for stronger enemies limbs, it will make it harder for them to attack, like the suicide mutants, aim for the bomb in their hand and they will blow up, aim for legs to stop larger enemies from moving, or take off arms to stop them from shooting.
Mentats, whiskey and hubflower make grape mentats at a drug station, one of the better drugs in the game, you get 10% less to buy things and sell things for 10% more. Take a grape mentats before bartering and then you can sell a lot of your ammo you don’t use. One thing to make at a drug station is what’s called ‘refreshing drink’ which you’ll need if you take too many drugs and become addicted. Drink a refreshing drink and it cures your addiction

As a new player to Fallout 4 I enjoy watching your adventures. One thing I tend to do is scoot back home to Sanctuary to offload as much unnecessary stuff as possible before heading into a new place so I don't get so encumbered with loot. I mainly focus on collecting ammo, bottle caps and things I may need for building and now tend to leave clothing. Enjoy.

I believe it’s only Diamond City Radio and Classical that you have to worry about. Radio signals/distress signals/silver shroud all contribute to the story/side quests so it should be fine! I’m loving this series, keep it up!! ❤

The Spray and Pray gun is excellent Im level 71 and still have it in my loadout. You have to make certain not to use it where you might hit your companions though you can still use it if you have the perk that prevents you from injuring your companions!

The animal friend park will allow you to control animals like the death claw and you can use them to attack people. That was a fun perk that I used later on in the game. Also under strength there’s a great perk that makes it where you can carry more.
Controlling deathclaws would be very fun! No need for turrets if you can set them loose on raiders 🤣
@@mike-thegamingdad they will follow you once you have gained their trust and can be another companion, but will only follow orders not hold anything.
I'm loving the playthrough watched every episode so far.
Just a quick tip On value to weight ratio as youll learn on your travels. It's so easy to pick everything up but in the hardware store you left some chems that weigh 0.1 pounds, i always pick chems up as your able to sell them for decent caps. Or use them for added benefits. Be careful with the amount you use though as you can get addicted giving you a debuff.
Be wary of clothes and armour you pick up. Some can weigh a lot more than you expect. Raider chest pieces are heavy and mostly useless.
Always hold a few bottles of alcohol in your inventory. As drinking them can help you pass speech checks (again you can get addicted so be careful)

I really hope you take Piper and other companions. There are other ways to get more carry weight. Funny, I've never taken the Lone Wanderer perk because I enjoy the companions way too much.

Take the Mutant Hound Meat, after it's cooked it removes Rads and restores health. I use Mutant Hound Chops more than I use Rad-Away. Grilled Radstag and Mutant Hound Chops are always in my inventory before I set off from base. I usually carry 2 Grilled Radstag and 3-4 Mutey Hound Chops, and a Yao Guay Steak for Damage Resist properties.
Spray And Pray is a must have early game weapon. Not only is it a fast shooter, it also converts .45 ammo into Explosive Charge Bullets, which not only explode on target but create 'splash-damage' area of effect so you don't have to hit the target directly but just shoot next to them or the wall behind them to cause damage output. Very useful for enemies behind sandbags, counters, cars etc.. The only caveat to this effect is, it will also damage friendly and non-hostile people and creatures making them hostile to you, so make sure your target area is free of friendlies before firing.
Cricket: You can find her in four locations - Bunker Hill in the market area, outside of Vault 81, and outside of Diamond City, and she stops at Warwick Homestead. I have only run across her on the road maybe two times but I know she travels just like all of the Caravan Dealers do.
Camp Recognition: Raiders usually have scrap wooden walled strongholds and barriers decorated with dead Settlers and Raiders and Traders. Super Mutants have those jagged metal spike posts and Meat Bags making their turf. Gunners usually have their trademark Skull logo painted on military style metal barricades and Crowd Control fencing and sandbag wall sections, these are the telltale signatures of what hostiles you'll be facing in any given area within Boston city proper.
Why did you take Local Leader? You have ONE settlement.. at this early stage you should be focused on the basics of Killing Fast and Efficiently, Surviving attacks and thereby not getting DEAD, and improving the toolset needed to do both like Armorer and Gun Nut, or Rifleman Medic, Toughness and Bloody Mess, Commando, Sneak .. if you want to do a Stealth Archer Build..lol. Do yourself a favor and don't get caught up in the ridiculous notion that a 'Build' is going to make this game so much better, because it won't unless you're strictly following a self-imposed Role-Play canon on yourself, there's plenty to do to keep you levelling up and plenty of time to get all the percs you'll want, you just need to prioritize them and keep it simple, like Kill Fast, Survive, Upgrade Gear, upgrade Damage output, then as more settlements get added then worry about supply lines. I'm enjoying watching you struggle needlessly, but I still like to offer suggestions to make you think about what you're doing in the world.
Last one, I promise for this video, Mission Planning: Am I doing a quest or collecting settlement supplies? Prioritize doing one or the other, especially in downtown Boston, because there is TOO MUCH LOOT to pick up and still be able to walk even with a companion to offload junk to. All of those Raider camps, Super Mutant camps, Gunner camps will re-populate every time you leave the area within a day or two, so every area you just cleared today will have enemies to sidetrack you for the next trip through Boston on your quest runs, keep this in mind.
It might be worth turning the other set of subtitles on (I believe "General Subtitles", in addition to "Dialogue Subtitles"), will help with understanding the ambient comments/conversations going on! 😊especially in places like Diamond City that throw quests at you. The dialogue subtitles show only for active conversations where you have to respond.

Those descriptors (strengthened, hardened) are mods on the armour. Remove them and keep or sell them before scrapping the piece. Same as weapons. Also, when modding, look at the box on the bottom left and you’ll see little plus and minus signs on the weapon stats showing you exactly what you’re gaining/losing compared to your equipped weapon per mod.

It’s good text to give you a rough idea of the mod. But the actual plus and minus symbols are what count. You’ve basically got something else on the weapon that’s better for accuracy than the grip. Recoil, I would assume, ultimately means accuracy.

Purified water is the key to commerce. If you collect enough of a particular magazine, and have specific clothing on, you can sell it for I think 20 caps per unit. That ads up REAL fast. Especially with a place like, say, Sanctuary, which can have a large number of purifiers installed. So, example - you harvest 220 units in Sanctuary, that is nearly $4500 in tradable resources. And you can do that in any place you can set up the super large purifiers.

@@mike-thegamingdad Its tough in the early game, they are resource heavy, and power heavy. But its worth the investment.
You're going to find that being over encumbered is the way of life in this game. And breaking down everything is not the answer. Selling items, now that you are in D. C. and other places will be your friend. Caps are a necessity, and selling all the excess armor and weapons is the way to go for your early game play. So get use to walking slow, and just pick up all the armor and weapons. lol
There is a 'Formal Hat' that will also add a bit to your abilities to converse usually sold by the merchants. When I played I made custom made 'guard post' by placing a square metal or wood box floor and then add a side tall prefab stair set that snaps onto it and on top facing out I used Laser turrets and placed a generator in the center to power the turrets. I placed these at all entrances and possible weak spots at my settlements.

First off, I am really enjoying your playthrough! Some tips. If you have stealth boys store those somewhere. They weigh one and next thing you know you have ten or more in your inventory weighing you down. You should definitely pick up all the drugs and sell any you don't use. They don't weigh much. Rad X prevents radiation damage, you can use it when you swim around and plug up the holes in Sully's quarry. Vodka is used to make Radstag Stew which gives you an energy resistance boost. Buffout and grilled radstag will give you extra carry weight for a period of time. Addictol will cure addiction to drugs. The most common non-addictive drugs are Stimpacks, Radaway and Rad X. There are others but you won't run into them till later. Mutant Hound meat is really good. It will heal you and get rid of radiation. Ok this comment is way too long. Hope it helps though.

Cricket is based in Bunker Hill. So is Carla and Lucas (you'll probably meet Lucas eventually.) When you do a few quests for Bunker Hill, all 3 traders will have more caps to trade. Cricket sells what some consider the best weapon in the game - Spray and Pray

1:18:07 *Why* are you *NOT* upgrading your armor?
each piece have *two* separate modification categories:
one is straight defense upgrades
and the other is additional special effects or functions, like increased carry weight, more stealthy movement, more stable aiming with scopes, resistance to radiation, resistance to being set on fire, reduced armor weight + increased action points (stamina equivalent in fallout games), and other effects.
i do hope you would atleast take a look in second category of armor modifications instead of only checking first one.
You keep saying Diamond City when you really mean Boston. Diamond City is a tiny part of it. It's actually just converted Fenway Park - main Boston baseball stadium.

I've been looking forward to this video. I'm really enjoying this play through.
I've noticed that your load times are fairly long. Are you running the game on a HD or SSD? If you're not running on an SSD, I highly recommend you do, as Fallout 4 is notorious for its long load times. The further into Boston you go, you might notice the game performance takes a hit. One little trick I learned is to lower the Shadow detail to medium. Visually, it doesn't make much difference, but it does improve performance considerably.
Making green paint at Hardware Town is for a quest you can get in Diamond City. See Abbott at the Wall.
It's up to you whether you want to use chems. They can have some very powerful effects, especially if you make or combine certain chems at a Chemistry station. For example, combining Psycho and Jet will give you Psychojet, which increases your damage output by 25%, increases your Damage Resistance by +35, gives you +40 Action Points and slows time for 15 seconds. I use it as my "oh shit, I'm about to die!" chem. Grape Mentats give you 10% better prices and +5 Charisma for 8 minutes, while Berry Mentats provide +5 Intelligence and the ability to 'highlight' enemy targets (allowing you to technically see through walls) for 8 minutes. Using some chems come with a risk of addiction, but that can be easily cured by taking either Addictol or drinking a Refreshing Beverage (which you can make at a Chemistry station), or visiting a doctor and paying them to remove your addiction. Alternatively, you can use chems as currency, as they have an excellent value to weight ratio.
You are correct in saying that the Lone Wanderer perk works with Dogmeat.
The second compass marker is a Custom marker, which you placed near some power armour a while ago. You can remove it by clicking on any open area of the map and choosing Remove Marker.
The quest, Follow the Freedom Trail, was added after you overheard the conversation between the two people just outside Valentine's Detective Agency. You'll find out more about it later.
Storing aid items or bottlecaps in a settlement's Workshop will actually increase the chance of that settlement being attacked. I usually have a separate container in which I store aid items I don't want to sell.
While you're away from a settlement, you may get a notification informing you that the settlement is under attack. The settlement has a 50% chance that it will successfully defend itself, regardless of the amount of defences it has. A settlement which fails to defend itself from an attack will suffer a penalty to its Happiness rating. This isn't much of a concern for Sanctuary or uninhabited settlements, but settlements with pre-existing settlers, such as Tenpines Bluff or Oberland Station will actually abandon the Minutemen if their Happiness rating is too low.
Diamond City is separate from Boston. Diamond City is located within Fenway Park, which in turn is located within Boston.
Locations infested with Super Mutants look absolutely revolting, but could you imagine what the smell would be like?
1:49:52 - When targeting an enemy in VATS, check the bottom of the screen. If the Crit meter is flashing, that means you have a stored Critical Hit. To use the critical hit, select an enemy body part and then press X. Critical hits do additional damage and always hit (99% of the time). The critical hit is then used up, and you need to 'build another crit' by scoring hits in VATS. Use a small weapon such as a pistol to build the crit, and then switch to a more powerful weapon when you're ready to execute the crit. Perks in the Luck tree can increase the number of stored crits and their refresh rate.
Radio Signals that you discover in the Commonwealth are different than standard radio. Radio signals will usually start a quest, or point you in the direction of a quest giver. You won't get any issues with copyright when listening to a radio signal.

I'm running on an SSD, and my PC is plenty powerful to handle the game but there was one particular loading screen which was ridiculous. Like over a minute. I meant to cut it out but forgot to do it. After that they were relatively quick again. I'm not sure why that one was so bad. I upped the bitrate on my screen recorder recently as I noticed some pixelation recently on a recording when I was running through the trees, but I can't imagine that will have affected it. I was warned about Boston though being a bit laggy

What I like to do is have containers next to cooking station, armour and weapon stations as well as next to chemistry station to keep lots of products for later use. Really enjoying the walk through

If you find a merchant has an item you want, you can offset the cost by selling items from your inventory before finalizing the transaction. Chems and ammo you don't use are great for this. Folders and subway tokens weigh nothing and are worth caps (miscellaneous tab). Prewar money (junk) is plentiful and good for barter. Cricket's Spray n Pray is one of the best weapons in the game, and well worth the price.
Do the subway tokens have a purpose in the game? I've got a few now but not sure what they serve

There should also be a " hot key " that jumps you into workshop mode so you dont always have to approach the bench. I havent played on console in forever so no clue what it is, but I am sure another commenter can tell you.
Yeah it never seems to work for me, what it says to press seems to be really temperamental and sometimes works and others does nothing, so I've resorted to just walking if I'm near 🤣

So 5 episodes in and your doing better than my first run. I'm sure others would have said this but to maximise either speech checks (Yellow, Orange, Red) or to decrease/increase buying/selling to vendors, wearing a suit (clean or dirty) will give you 2 CH, black-rim glasses give 1 CH and either a formal hat or trilby will give you 1 CH , along with some chems will help with vendor prices , on low value items not much change will be noticed but if your buying expensive things, such as Spray and Prey, it could save you a few hunded caps.
When your looking at your inventory or that of a vendor you can inspect the item by pressing R3 this will show what the current mods on a weapon or piece of armour are which means if your looking for a certain mod you can see things more clearly, it also allows you to see what appeal may look like too.
When you overencumbered you can offload excess in to a container, such as a mail box or bin and leg it back to your nearest settlement and back to where you were (you can fast travel to, but i found that the distance back and forth isn't as great as most think) and the container will still have your deposited items, I will be honest, i don't know how long this takes to reset but i think its 2-3 in game days.
There is so much more i want to advise to do from my own experiences but don't want to spoil your experiences.
Thanks a lot! Yeah I need to start making sure I switch up my clothing. I never think to do it as I'm playing. And the rest period is quite quick I think, you're probably right at 2-3 days. I know Corvega was full of raiders again as I cleared it out once more. I'm used to playing games where the reset is much longer, in Skyrim I'm sure it's over a week

Everytime I watch you play Fallout 4 I want to play the game.
Do it. Start a survival mode play through to give you a completely different experience than if you’ve never played that mode before. You’ll never go back to playing it on normal.

Good stuff! May have already been answered, but Road to Freedom will introduce you to another Faction in the game: the Railroad. Interesting bunch. There’s another faction yet to be revealed, but they make a grand entrance following one of the main storyline quests. Don’t want to ruin the surprise. 😉 Also, you had asked about Stealthboys in a previous episode. Can’t remember if anyone answered, but they make you invisible for a short time.

Rifleman also ties into shotguns, semi-automatic combat rifles and so on, so it is a very solid route to go
Some excellent perks: Scrapper, both levels, Rifleman, which you are already perking. Hacking and lock picking, both pretty important. Carry weight which I forget the name of, and a personal fav is the Mysterious Stranger.
Yeah scrapper level 1 gave some interesting stuff but 2 had mostly electronics as well and nuclear material, all sounded useful 👍🏻
Here's a few more weapons and armor tips: Weapons - Pipe weapons are the weakest compared to its counterpart so let's say you have a pipe sniper it'll always be inferior to an actual sniper rifle, Pipe pistol will be inferior to an actual pistol etc.. As for armors there are 3 tiers to each armor types for example Leather will be regular, Sturdy Leather will be tier 2 and Heavy Leather will be tier 3. Apply Sturdy and Heavy to any of the armor types and those are tier 2 and 3 of that armor, keep in mind the higher the tier the more protection but at the cost of weight and stealth/noise you make when you walk/run, BUT as you unlock more stuff you can modify each piece of armor to add additional perks or make it lightweight. And LASTLY Dogmeat does NOT effect the perk Lone Wanderer and he doesn't even count as a companion.
Lone Wanderer is a great perk, but taking the other companions to the max gives you added perks for free than can be extremely useful. When you get a decent level and carry weight taking the others and building them up is good to do. I think Dogmeat and the Robot are the only ones that don't earn you a perk.
You can give dogmeat collars and dog armour and equip them on dogmeat, should see my dogmeat looks like someone you don't mess with lol. You can buy a player home in diamond city, you can't do much with it but it's ideal to use as a way point, i usually place crafting stations and power armor station for repairs and upgrades on weapons
spray and pray as well as oversears guardian are my top level guns as far as bullets go. I get them asap.
Another quick tip... you can quick save in the middle of a conversation (if you loose a speech challenge you can reload and try again)

With your inventory, you can buy things from vendors like Carla if you have items to sell but not enough caps. Her initial amount of caps is like 250, and before perks a shipment of oil is 900. If you do transactions without leaving the sales interface, unneeded items like purified water, fancy lad snackcakes, etc are like credit cards. Before completing your purchase you can buy items, and sell items (transfer between you and the vendor) until ideally you have what you want, are net positive for caps, and your inventory is less burdensome.
i.e. Cricket sells the spray and pray for 2000 caps, she has 240 caps in her inventory. If purified water sells for 8 caps each, 250 bottles would buy the spray and pray, an additional 30 bottles would leave her with 0 caps. You got caps and a unique legendary item, it cost nothing 😏

At 1:38:20 you say, 'Mike don't get distracted, focus on the task at hand!' My hands came together clapping as I have watched several new folks picking this game up and making the mistake of being a moth to the flame! You will hear all kinds of things in this game, but if you stay focused on your mission you will level up faster and conserve more ammo that way! Then at 1:50:45 you became a moth to the flame like the others and wasted so much ammo and healing supplies fighting a battle you didn't need to at that time!

Just a tip, unless you’re picking up armour that’s better than yours just leave it, it’s not really important unless you’re giving it to settlers, and if that’s the goal then roam around and kill random enemies for it, but if I’m doing a mission I don’t worry about it because it just fills up inventory

A lot of people are very enamored of the Spray and Pray, just be aware that it has an explosive effect so be careful using it in close quarters, it's not one of my preferred weapons but that's just my choice.

For Merchants: Cricket can usually be found between Diamond City and Vault 81 (when you find these locations). Carla travels between Sanctuary and Drumlin Diner. Lucas usually shows up at Tenpines Bluff and Greentop Nursery. Doc Withers can be found at The Slog or Bunker Hill. Actually most of these merchants show up at Bunker Hill occasionally.

Speaking of Vault 81, let's just say I'd save twice as many caps (or equivalent Purified water) and get the gun from Alexis at the shop in there. "Spray 'n Pray" tends to cause too much collateral damage and you tend to aggro would-be good guys with it. Not saying not to get it, it's just not the first Legendary Gun I go for in this game.
With a "Gun Nut" perk of 4 and the gun from Vault 81 you can do some serious damage. And you won't need to carry around a specialized sniper rifle anymore. OH! REMEMBER, use your conversation clothing when trading with merchants!

@@mike-thegamingdad Yeah, with the Gun Nut perk to mod the gun and Rifleman perk for better damage this gun is one of the best in the game. Currently I've a .308 receiver (non-automatic), long recon scope and a suppressor and anything else I can add. I can usually head-shot mobs from a good distance without exposing my location to the others. I was gonna see if the .50 receiver is a possible improvement on my next session.
1:50:30 in these situations you could excellently use Jet, Buffout, Psycho, Overdrive, Psychobuff, Buffjet at once, adding a unit of "Refreshing Drink", which instantly cures all addictions, if necessary. It can be crafted at a chemistry station. Avoiding chems completely is boring in FO4, and any addiction can be easily cured.

You can also throw any charisma gear on drink a beer take any drugs that up charisma and then talk to traders and get better prices on buying and selling. It will help a good bit on expensive ⭐️ items. Also don’t break down weapons and armor. Unless it’s leather for the leather without the scrapper perks it’s not worth. You can get steel anywhere. They are more valuable for the mods or to sell

The paints for a job a guy in diamond City needs. You have to make green paint so he can paint the big wall in the back of diamond City. But you have to get the job from him first

With planted food in the settlement if you have all of the plants including the gourds and melon it makes the settlers happier as there not eating the same stuff all the time a youtuber called oxhorn can go into more detail on settlement happiness and can break down how it all works

1:16:34 what good about next game, the fallout 76, is that in it aid and food is separate categories/tabs, so much easier to sort out, but then stimpacks and ammo has weight there and also both weapons and armor do require repairing, while here only power armor pieces need repair.
Elevators in the Commonwealth are quite safe. Not necessarily where they take you, but elevators themselves are fine :)

some hints. ALWAYS pick up drugs stimpacks are weightless all others are usually 0.1 pound that's right one tenth of a pound and they sell for double digit caps
2 if you are going to build pick up ALL junk,. Junk is what breaks down into the components to build your settlements and upgrade your armor and weapons
2.5 be selective with a few of the heavier items of junk example: buckets weight 3 pounds but only give 2 steel. cans & tin cans weight 0.1 pound and give 2 steel
you get to figure out the rest of what is worth carrying around
3 keep ALL pipe weapons they are USUALLY low weight for weapons and sell for about 10caps/pound
4 STOP breaking down weapons/armor until you get points in scrapping(hint: read the description of the skill
5 PLEASE put toughness as a priority skill IF you choose to forego the use of power armor

In VATS, you load up your Critical Meter when you connect shots. When its full, you can execute the Critical Shot, While shooting in VATS, and it will do extra damage. I'm not sure how much extra it is but somtimes it feels like its 2x the damage. But you've had the Critical Meter full forever and haven't used it :D
There is a Perk that allows you to store more Critical Hits, i'm not sure what its called.
Yeah I noticed that was full but kept forgetting to press X 🤣 I'll make sure I use it next time and then once I've done it once I should remember it's there
@@mike-thegamingdad It's usually best used when you're sneaking, this way your 2x bonus when sneaking gets doubled by your 2x critical, doing 4x in total, so that's a lot of damage in one shot especially if you're aiming for the head, which becomes guaranteed headshots because the VATS critical can't never miss no matter the [%] shown (unless it's 0%)
Get the mysterious stranger perk..... he randomly shows up and kills the person you're shooting at

Couple of suggestions.. One, I'm glad your feeling better and hopefully the rest of the fam gets better soon. So suggestions...I wouldn't bother upgrading your leather/raider armor... As you progress you will start to find better armor as well as better modified armor in the world....raider/leather armor are the basic of basic armors in the game and tbh I wouldn't really pick any of it up at this stage, unless it's modified or something like that and it's an upgrade over what you are wearing. Lastly, I highly recommend NOT storing armor or weapons in the workbench...put your extras that you may use for your settlers or u are considering using for yourself in a storage chest like you did with the mini gun and missile launcher. The storage chests have no limit to the amount you can put into it...

Chems are always good to sell. And they have one of the best weight/price ratio
I would suggest you build some storage boxes in santuary for like items. Like chems, food so that your not putting all your items in one storage. That way if you need a specific item you dont have to search through as much junk.

Always carry some grilled radstag (two headed dear). It gives you a boost to carry weight - good in a pinch.
Thanks yeah I have some of that in my storage now. I plan to go through what I've stored and sort it out. Sell what I don't want, keep what's for me in separate containers etc and then I'll carry what I want to use in smaller quantities (not 27 molotov cocktails and 11 jets etc 🤣)
BTW, Freedom Trail is a real thing. One the main Boston touristy attractions. Starts the same as in the game at the State House, but goes all the way to USS Constitution (which you will also seem in the game) BTW, USS Constitution is the oldest ship in service of US Navy.

Curtain Call quest gives you as a reward the best charisma suit - Reginal Suit (female characters get a dress the naem of which I don't recall) - it gives +3 charisma, whiel your current suit gives +2. You should also find a hat that gives charisma.

1:52:10 Yeah, I usually prefer aiming manually as well. VATS is useful for identify friend or foe purposes, but all too often your skill as a player is better than your character's skills. And like you said, it's a lot more enjoyable!
Items with stars are just items that have a special(legendary) effect. Spray n'Pray has Explosive. Another useful effect is Two-shot.- shoots two bullets instead of one. The second bullet does not do as much damage, but still...

You will find a few Super Mutants that won't shot first and eat you later. All that said, has anyone suggested maybe lowering the battle music? It tends to drown you out a bit. I hope you and your child are feeling better.

If you've only taken one level of lone wanderer Piper will not massively effect it. She can carry more than 50 weight and if you give her a decent gun she'll help quite s lot and absorb wuite a lot of damage. She may help a lot until you find your feet a bit. Personally I like Cait because she amused me, but Curie has got to be the best. I've done 3600 hours on fallout 4 and theres still thingd that I find from time to time. When you get used to it, I'd put the difficulty up to very hard, you get a lot more legendary weapons. Survival i think just takes it too far, though it is fun.

You can just give a minigun and one round of ammo to a settler and assign them as s guard. In sactuary you will get attcked from the bridge, vault 111 footbridge and to the right of where you built your fancy house

You picked up a quest to get the best follower in the game ( to me ) and you also get a really good piece of clothing. It was at Trinity Tower.
