    Excellent images, and a joy to watch. Thank you for sharing this. I am very, very tempted to invest in the X-series. Do the other X-series cameras have these advanced filter effects built-in as well?

    • @photofonz
      @photofonz  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Fujifilm X-E2 has these advanced filters and then some, plus a nice selection of more Film Simulation modes. The X-Pro-1 and X-E2 also offers Motion Panorama, which I think is very useful for creating some exciting professional images. The sensors the X series have, also provide amazing tack sharp resolution.
      I wouldn't mind owning the Fujifilm X-E2

    I am now the proud owner of the xm1. You are right, it is a gem. For now I have one question: auto iso only goes up to 6400. `is there a way to override this? So: auto iso beyond 6400?

    • @photofonz
      @photofonz  หลายเดือนก่อน

      While I no longer own the X-M1, I believe you can find what you are looking for on pg. 47 of the manual. You can "choose from values between 200 and 6400, or select L(100, H (1280) or H (25600) for special situations."

    thanks for the review..i found that x-t1 is a great camera and thinking of buying the x-t1..but i can't afford the x-t1..would it be worth if i spend my money on this x-m1 instead of x-t1??

    • @photofonz
      @photofonz  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, if the Fujifilm X-T1 is currently not in your budget, by all means consider the X-M1. Both have amazing sensors and are capable of producing outstanding images. When I use my X-M1, I like the fact that I have a tilt screen and use it quite often. I do however, miss the viewfinder at times. The X-T1 can always be purchased down the road and that would leave you with 2 X series camera bodies to which you can also add more lenses.

      @photofonz  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jeffry Ciputra Thank you! Yes, it's the 16-50mm lens that was offered as a kit. While the lens lacks in weight & build quality, I was surprised at the sharpness it produces. The lightweight and size of this lens along with the amazing X-M1, makes it great for travel and easy to always have it with you.

    Thanks for this review. I think I'm now settled in purchasing this instead of its big brothers that are very expensive (for me). Anyway, what video editing software did you use for this video? thanks again ... cheers!

    • @photofonz
      @photofonz  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, as amazing as the Fuji X-M1 is in image quality, and I can get the same beautiful images as the X-Pro 1 & X-E1 produces, I do at times miss the viewfinder. Plus, the weather resistant and magnesium body and overall build quality and additional features of the Fuji X-T1 or the X-E2, make them a top camera of choice for professional photographers. I wouldn't mind owning the Fuji X-T1 or the X-E2.
      For my video editing software I currently use Sony Movie Studio 12. I tried using other programs including Adobe Premier, but found Sony Movie Studio best fits my needs. If I were to ever need more than 20 tracks, then I may consider moving up to Sony Vegas Pro.

    Hi, do you believe this is still an up-to-date camera?
    In my country it is priced at 399€ while the x-a2 is priced at 499€, which one do you fell is a better choice?
    Thank you

    • @photofonz
      @photofonz  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Rui Moreira While I am still a happy Fuji X-M1 user and don't own the X-A2, looking at the specs the X-A2 and X-M1 have many identical features. The XA2 has a few extra perks such as a slight increase of 60 frames per battery charge, the additional CLASSIC CHROME added to the film simulation mode and of course the X-A2 has a CMOS sensor vesrsus the X-Trans CMOS sensor in the X-M1.
      I personally have not tested the two cameras but for me I'm still happy using the X-M1 and not sure if it makes all that much difference when it come down to it. Both cameras have the capability of producing outstanding images, even by today's standards. The rest is up to the photographer.
      I do miss that my X-M1 does not have a viewfinder, since it's a little difficult seeing the LCD screen in bright sunlight. However, this does not affect image quality and I guess that's why Fuji makes the other models that have a viewfinder.

  • @ocgirltw

    Hi, I just purchased X-M1 a month ago, I haven't really tried the "advanced mode" until I watched this video, so thank you! I'm curious, other then the kit lens, what other lens would you recommend for this camera? I take pictures for my blog, mostly travel pictures, so it could be landscape, street scene, architecture. I'd like something versatile, preferably wide angle.

    • @photofonz
      @photofonz  9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      One thing I really like about Fuji's 16-50mm lens is that it covers a nice wide focal length range for travel. For a faster lens and a bit wider, the Fujinon XF14mmF2.8 R is a spectacular ultra wide lens by Fuji that would be great for landscapes and architecture photography.
      On the longer focal length side, I really like the FUJINON XF50-140mmF2.8 R LM OIS WR lens, as this is a fast, super sharp lens that would be great for portraits, weddings, photojournalism, etc., although a bit pricey. Another option would be the Fujifilm XF 55-200mm f/3.5-4.8 R LM OIS Lens. This is a reasonably priced tele lens that would be great for portraits, weddings, etc. Both of these lenses take over where the 16-50mm leaves off.

  • @heklik
    @heklik 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Is it still good now 2021 ?

    • @photofonz
      @photofonz  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, as far as image quality goes. However, the X-M1 was released 8 years ago and there are some replacement models that have several updated features.
      As an example, Fuji's X-A7 has 24 MP vs XM-1's 16MP, a fully articular touch screen, a microphone port, smartphone remote, slightly larger and better resolution LCD screen and shoots 4K video.
      These are some of the advantages of the newer tech replacement models. I do like the fact that the X-M1 does not have an anti-aliasing filter which results in crisp sharp images.
      If you do not need 4K video and some of the other features listed above, the Fujifilm X-M1 is still good by today's standard.

    I love your photos! I've started looking for a new camera & it seems that most of them have creative filters like the X-M1. However, most of them look rather hokey and heavy handed, where as your photos are more subtle and beautiful. Do you think similar effects can be achieved with any good mirrorless camera nowadays, or are the creative filters in the Fujis just better?

    I'm debating on camera choices as I am a beginner. I want to focus on people and learn how to capture candid shots. Between the Fujifilm XM-1 and the D7000 which would you choose? I would like to start to learn how to blur out the backround as well but cannot afford another lens. which would be best for that?
    Thank you

    • @photofonz
      @photofonz  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +A H The Fuji X-M1 (Mirrorless) and the Nikon D7000 (DSLR) are very different cameras. While the X-M1 takes beautiful & sharp images. It is without a viewfinder. I like both cameras and use the X-M1 when I want to travel light. I have used the Nikon D7000 for portrait and wedding photography. The Fujifilm X-T10 would be a better choice for portraits and candids.
      If it were me, I'd choose the D7000 or X-T10 for more serious photography of people and candid photography. While it is hard for me to recommend a lens for someone else, here's my advice:
      If you are on a budget and want to go into a zoom lens, consider a Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 lens. I have used this lens for several years and still do. It can be found used on ebay and I just checked, currently Adorama has a good used one for only $104. This is a great price and deserves a serious look while it is still available.
      www.adorama.com/US%20%20%20%20632881.html?hotlink=t&svfor=5m&gclid=Cj0KEQiArJe1BRDe_uz1uu-QjvYBEiQACUj6osk_pI4S-jJL2GsLNmsY-CF1PXadKrSyY3Ab8sR76XgaAh-18P8HAQ
      If money is not an issue, consider Nikon's 70-200mm f2.8 or even the f4 lens.
      For a good prime lens, Nikon has a 50mm f1.4 or f1.8 that would help you isolate your subject for nice background blur. If the budget allows, consider Nikon's 85mm f1.4 or f1.8. This is an amazing lens for portraits, candids and sports.

      While the two cameras have different sensors, ( x-trans for the Fujifilm X-M1 versus Bayer for the X-A1), these cameras are very similar and can be debated as to which is the better of the two. I still use and like my X-M1, but I probably would be just as happy with an X-A1.
      For an in-depth comparison and shootout between the X-M1 and the X-A1, there is a great artical in Fuji Rumors by Rico Pfirstinger at: www.fujirumors.com/x-a1-vs-x-m1-the-shootout/

    Funny the "toy camera" filter reminds me of how a cheap plastic lensed camera like an old agfa or instamatic camera might present with poor lens coverage at the corners. I never thought someone would actually try to reproduce that! But they do it well, not a bad effect. This way the center is sharp where a plastic lens would not be.

      Fuji offers a mount adapter that allows the use of a wide variety of M Mount lenses on the X Mount camera bodies. It is built with a three-part structure that uses optimum materials for each of the components, to accommodate perfect fitting with high precision.
      Although I have not used them on my Fuji X-M1, Zeiss, Samyang and other manufacturers offer quality lenses with the M mount that fit the Fuji X series cameras. Fuji also makes some extraordinary lens.

    Can you charge the battery while its in the camera via USB on the xm1? (for backpacking, with external battery packs)

    • @photofonz
      @photofonz  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The battery for the Fuji X-M1 must be charged in the battery charger that comes supplied with the camera.
      Although, the charge last for about 350 frames with the XF35mmF1.4 R lens according to Fujifilmusa, I've gotten more on my XC 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS Lens.
      I also carry a spare battery with me should I decide to go on a photo shooting spree and used it on several occassions. I've gotten to really like the Fujifilm X-M1!

    • @photofonz
      @photofonz  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Alex TheGreat Yes, there are several features that holds back a reasonable pro level rating. All are in the the feature category like the Fujifilm X-M1 has no viewfinder and external mic jack. It does however, have a tilt LCD screen which I use quite often and I also find the advanced filters quite useful for landscape photography. Although, it lacks a few features, it does not lack image quality. I use this camera when I want to cut down on camera size and weight while still being able to produce superb images.
