Rig Rundown - Brand New's Jesse Lacey and Vincent Accardi

On July 7, 2014, Premier Guitar met with Jesse Lacey and his tech Joe Cannetti, and lead guitarist Vincent Accardi of the Long Island alt-rockers Brand New before their show in Louisville, Kentucky. Lacey spilled the dirt on his love of Fender guitars and fuzz pedals.
Lacey keeps it all single-coil. His No. 1 is a battered ’70s Fender Tele with a Curtis Novak Tel-V bridge pickup. Next is a 2006 Fender Custom Shop Jazzmaster with a matching headstock. Last, but not least, is a 2009 Stagg Jazzmaster-style guitar with single-coils in the neck and middle positions, and a Fender Jaguar single-coil in the bridge position.
Lacey goes big and loud with a DR103 Hiwatt Custom 100 head plugged into a Janice 2x12 cab loaded with one Eminence Delta and one Swamp Thang speaker. Running in conjunction with the Hiwatt is a Gibson 1990s-era Orange Overdrive 80 that has been modded for 120-watt output. The Orange drives a Janice 2x12 with two Weber FC12s.

I'm gonna be honest when I say I don't understand a word of what he's saying but I just love Jesse's speaking voice so much and this is the most I've heard him speak ever so I'm living for this intv lol
funny that they mention Vincent trying to keep that strat in good shape.
i saw them about eight months after this and on the last song he launched a strat into the air further than I've ever seen any guitar fly. It came down somewhere behind his amp setup, hard.
I just saw Brand New perform at the Crystal Ballroom here in Portland Oregon on Aug. 30th 2014 and it was the greatest show I've been too. They really put those pedals to use. Plus I met Jesse and Vincent while walking around Portland before the show and they are both super nice and genuine.
Now THIS is the rig rundown I was hoping for. Brand New is easily my favorite band. Not only did we get the rig rundown, we got the scoop from Jesse himself, AND a couple of interview-style questions about their music outside of the rig. AWESOME

@@spridle yes I do. I consider them to be my favorite band ever. I was appalled by what Jesse was up to, but I separate the art from the artist and appreciate the band as a whole.

Very impressed with the guy; friendly, knows his stuff, and tinkering on his own, nice setup. One of the better rundowns, despite the sound issues (and me not being familiar with their music).
I love these Rig Rundown episodes, there is so much stuff you can learn from them. Great interview once again!
Been waiting for this for a long time, nice to finally see a decent interview with Jesse about his equipment but also some of the evolution in sounds and style. Shame there was no rig rundown for Garrett though.
I agree about Garrett. The bass tones and riffs in Devil & God and Daisy are so amazing.
The maturity of brand new's music across the albums is the reason i love them.

Yes!!! For a while I've wanted to see Jesse talk about his rig. Just like Perry said, ever since The Devil and God I've been so curious about how they achieved their tones. Would of been nice to hear from Vin though, but solid rundown nonetheless.

I've been waiting for this for ages! ... turns out I think pretty similarly to Jesse, and have quite a bit of crossover ideas and equipment :P evidently Brand New being my favorite band has had some sort of impact.

I love that Jesse obviously says "Classic Player Jazzmaster that the got the headstock painted by the Custom Shop." Premier Guitar reported that as "Custom Shop Jazzmaster." Check out the video description.
What's weird is that it's not a classic player jazzmaster. It's probably a japanese jazzmaster. The bridge tremolo plate is too far apart to be a classic player.

1 I've seen a lot girls do some dirty and salacious things, especially recently (last 3 years) I'd elaborate but it would take too long.
2ndly, I find it really disheartening that a celeb or musician would struggle with getting laid to the point they would do goofy shit like that. I know he isn't the most famous or rich guy in the world but come on, with that slight notoriety you should be able to attract someone worth while or at least legal... I'm a nobody but I got laid once because a girl heard a clip of me playing guitar online, yeah there is more to my story like we had chemistry blah blah blah but still these guys shouldn't be ending up in these situations.

I must have watched this video at least half a dozen times over the years but I’ve only just realised something - the tech mentions that they replaced the neck on Vin’s Tele with a Cyclone neck, but isn’t the cyclone short/Gibson scale? How do they resolve the intonation issues of having a 24.75” scale neck on a 25.5” scale guitar?

@@tylergibson7652 presumably that would help with regards string tension, but I still don’t see how it would intimate properly. I guess it doesn’t really matter when you play in a rock & roll band.
@@breakalime the only person who can't intimate properly is Jesse 🤣🤣 and it doesn't matter what you play, you're going to want to have your guitar/bass properly set up and the intonation is bang on. Don't be ignorant.
Check out the saddles on the Tele. They're all back as far as they can go. No way that thing is intonated but I guess an attempt was made lol

gumbercules26 Those are the New Balance RC1400s they made back in 2011. It's a lightweight racing flat. They're a little hard to find now that they've rolled out new versions. (I used to work at NB retail stores)

Adam McCracken Yes sir, i mean Arkansas Razorbacks. I'm not sure about an era or anything, it looks really similar to the current Arkansas Razorbacks Baseball team hats that they wear on the field. Hope that helps. If he wore an orange one, i would say it most likely isn't Arkansas then. Our colors are Red and White, no Orange.

elijahsky walker I'm pretty sure he just colored them in with like a marker. If you look closely during the close up of the blue Jazzmarer, you can see there is still some white on the pick up. the actual pickups are stock too.

It's great how Jesse doesn't even have to try. I mean, we all love him, what he does, and what he writes, yet look at Perry. Perry looks like (and no offense) like you're trying so hard to be like your rock star idols, with your tattoos and skinny jeans... Jesse is legitimately so beautiful because he doesn't conform like most of you will. He hasn't changed, you all claim the sound and the music is "mature" but ultimately it's always been just Jesse, that's just who he is and what he feels. We all gravitate to that authenticity of self. Thank you Jesse.

...I don't see how you can say that most people don't have tattoos. Everyone I see of a certain age seems to have them. It is pretty credible to say they're more common than they used to be. And who even cares anymore about oh you have that picture and I have that picture etc. They're all the same after a while ie yes there may be variation, but they've become cliché.
