Wow! What a coincidence. I have known the man you bought that guitar from for almost 20 years. Dave Sheppard, born and raised in Cowtown. Has been in a rock band of some sort since he was 15. Music has been his life he will tell you. And at 71 or 72 years old is still staying pretty busy with 3 or 4 bands he plays in. He can flat tear it up and one of the best slide players I have ever heard in my life. I'm talking up there with Duane and Dicky.
I gotta say as a Marshall man myself I'm stoked to watch the video of your Marshall rig. That cab is awesome in all the right ways. That jazzmaster kicks ass by the way. Great video.
I'll take it! ...that got me! 😂👌🏼 Such a great (and funny) moment. And as always, it was a pleasure to watch and hear those beautiful Fender tones! Good luck, and keep going! 🪐🪐🪐
Thats how I remember music stores looking before the guitar center days, it was always like a treasure hunt in the store, even the owner didnt know how much stuff he had, he'd be like go ahead and poke around and im looking through dusty boxes of junk and finding old vintage pedals and other things and the prices were not insane yet, around 1981 or so until 1992 that was the sweet spot era for finding great gear out in the wild, nowdays its like going to some sterile soul less crap show
I know what you say. I don't care much about vintage stuff anymore. Its too pricey AND too appreciated by all the rack people that didn't give shit about it back then.
I can’t believe how amazing those tones are on that guitar when you played it. I cant imagine it sounding any more kick ass if you raise that pick up. It had a unique kick ass sound. Killer guitar. Great find for you man congrats
Matt buying an ultra rare super vintage guitar in a case in pretty nice condition and chucks it in the back of the van like he's leaving a punk show. You, sir, are a quintessential guitar player and I love what you do, and this just certifies how legitimate you are.
I just sold my 65 jazz master . Mine was a sept ‘65 bound and dot like yours. Except mine was Olympic white with a matching headstock. The blonde and sunburst were the only colors without matching headstock that year. The blondes a pretty rare, nice score congrats
This is awesome. Your playing is getting really incredible and I always love to hear it. It would be incredible to hear you play through an old Marshall! I think you could do it justice better than most people nowadays
He didn’t stumble on it. Somebody has contacted him to let him know they have something he is interested in. No one drives for hour on the off chance they might have something you’ll like…
I love these videos .... Vicariously Feeds my GAS without me having to spend a fortune. Thanks. That store is a treasure.... too bad i live so far away.
I think a Marshall setup would really compliment your Fender amps. I'm currently using an old 50W Marshall with a 2x12' along since my '70s Fender Twin Reverb, I feel I've got the best of both, and playing through them together is glorious. Great find on the Cab and Ash JM.
That water leak in that store is extremely concerning. They should have been on top of that situation immediately, closing shop til it's fixed asap. Standing water is bad for a guitar shop. Humidity kills guitars, and electronics.
I'm just gonna go out on a limb and say he knows, and it's a money issue. Both in terms of the fix itself, and the loss in potential revenue from closing until it's done. Sometimes these old buildings make what should be a simple fix into a real quagmire.
2 very cool pieces of gear! Kudos! Hope to see the guitar in future videos and can`t wait to hear you play through that "Marshall rig " you mentioned - is that for a specific project? Maybe a new record...?
This is what I love about bricks-and-mortar retail. No, it's not the giant conglomo chain stores I love - it's the niche shops that have been around for years (and still have the weird stuff covered in dust on the shelves out back from like 1982 to prove it.)
Very nice find bro ! I had a similar one back in 1981-82, then I sold it in '83 to buy my '71 black strat I still own ! it was certainly sunburst at first but natural refin, same specific period with binding and still dots, same logo but full large headstock, stamp date was 13DEC65B, and serial was 116204 with the "F". Congrats, yours is very cool, love white jazzmasters. Cheers from France.
honestly i think that's the best functioning instrument I've ever seen you show me so far...usually they're some work to get a heartbeat up to show us, this fellow Just Works(TM).
Love it! I used to hunt for vintage about 15 or more years ago. It was a passion and an obsession. So much fun and I paid off half the mortgage with the guitars. Have been itching to get back into it.
What a gorgeous guitar! You, my friend are one lucky dog to find such a cool guitar. Sounds incredible. I love the hi-fi quality of jazz master pickups
I really enjoy your video’s. I’m here in Ardmore. I play for the worship team here at Generations church. You may know Justin Logan up there in the city. I have played music with him. I love your playing. Would love to hear your band someday. Thanks for the great video, Johnnie
Great video! (as always) Could you make a video comparison between a vintage fender Stratocaster and a prs Silver sky? It would be awesome to see a comparison between two models from the first years of production of both guitars, 1954 and 2018
I had a Legend Rock "N" Roll 50 that had an oak cabinet. It was very heavy. The speakers in it were terrible until I replaced them with a better version of Celestion speaker. I sold it for $600 cdn on reverb. I still have the old speaker mounted in a cabinet that I haven't used in a very long time.
It's been a while since I've been following your channel. And I love it. I also got the curiosity to listen to your music on Spotify. And damn! I loved Amy and Reflection 👍
Matthew thanks for another great video. When you were in that shop, you came across a Legend basket weave half stack. Back in the 80’s I owned a 50 watt half stack and it was fantastic! I know you are busy, but spend a few minutes and look into them. I think you will like what you find!! Cheers!
It seems to me that either more Jazzmasters were bought new, played a few times, then put in a closet, OR Jazzmaster owners gave their guitars better care back in the day than other guitar types, because so many closet versions are found today.
Remember: it's not that the offsets were an abject mistake at the time because Leo chronically misread both the surf musician (too poor!) and jazz musician (too wedded to their over-grown acoustic jazz boxes...) - it's just that Leo was thirty years ahead of his time with those designs...
Have watched your videos for a while from Ohio,,you are a very talented gutiar player,,enjoy your liking VINTAGE repairs,,they sound so smooth,,till the next 1,,Crip
Yup...I have a early 1966 Jazzmaster, neck dated Feb 13 1966. White Body, Matching Head Stock, Rosewood Fretboard with Dot Inlays and white binding. My parents gave it to me brand new when I was 15, I am the original owner. Best guitar I own, neck has never been adjusted, no fret sprout, beautiful action.
One of the guitars that I first learned how to play blues on, was a fender bullet. We had one in a random music room at school. It’s classically an 80s country music guitar, but i loved it. It felt so good to play.
I had one of those Legend Oak amps. Mine was a combo Rock n Roll 50 I think. Had a Black Widow Speaker. It was a Hybrid Type Amp. Looked a lot better than it sounded if I remember right. Had a wicker grill. Nice looking amp. Thanks for the great videos!!
Hey Matthew, I’d like to first of all thank you for helping me understand aesthetically how I want to play, dress, collect, and feel. you’ve genuinely helped me grow not only as a player, but as a person and finding calmness in my space and passion, secondly, I’d like to ask where you buy your boots, I’ve been looking everywhere and can’t find anything that fits my style of dressing, the boot style you wear is like exactly what I’m looking for (specifically the ones in the reflection single cover)
Nice! In the 80’s & 90’s I had a lake Placid Blue one with blue head stock. Also had a basket cab like that with a 100-watt 69 Super-lead on top… miss them.
Awesome music store! Wish we knew what you paid for the guitar! I bought a Jazzmaster Squier guitar new that had some body damage and I really like it myself! It is a very different style of guitar to play and although the pickups look like P90's they are not and are Jazzmaster specific pickups! Will be interested in what you find out and do to the guitar!
Mid '65 as it has bound neck/dots but the smaller head stock. I believe it was December 65 that the big head stock showed up?. Looks like a Brazilian board too, beautiful!.
Like that guitar and love that Marshall, show us what speakers are in it. I got one like that but a bit older with 4 Vox silver Bulldog speakers in it from Guitar Center in Washington.
I played one of those back in the day. Loved the warm tone in pos #1; neck pickup. For heavier rock though it would slip out of tune constantly, soap bar pick-ups too noisy. Much prefer Strat hss configuration. Great playing & roaming camera work.
I love that it has the dot inlays. I never liked the newer block inlays on a Jazzmaster. Personally, if it were my guitar I wouldn't change a thing about the finish. I'd just raise that bridge pickup and give it a proper setup.
Reminds me of Craig's Music in Weatherford, Texas- not far from there. All vintage gear. You would love it. Its as big as this store, same vibe, everything.
The Legend half stack!! I had a friend years ago who swore by his Legend combo, with all the same styling as that half stack. Sounded great, but I've never seen another.
Locals need to keep that guitar store in business because it’s an absolute relic as far as music stores go!
Next time I'm up that way, I'll be going in to have a look. I like the vibe. Old school vibe ...
In this episode of Hoarders...
any store that still has sheet music needs to be treasured on basic principles
As a FW lifer, I can confidently say this store is pretty bad. Lol
For what it's worth, it did feel like a time machine and it was a fun experience.
Time for a new series! Walking around ma and pa shops looking for gear!
That would have been great to see him play. A very low key guy.
He sounds similar to me. I'm 72, and did my 1st nightclub blues gig at age 15, using a '64 Fender strat. ...in Madrid, Spain.
Tell him to make up some stories about his guitars. And tell him to start youtube channel.
Looking forward to the next episode about this guitar.
On the way🤘🏻✌🏻
Don’t fix the finish, it’s perfectly reliced as is!
Probably can't be fixed anyhow.
Bad enough hes gonna tear it into pieces to look at codes, we can see what it is
That removed sticker outline on the back is one of the old Music Man store window stickers.
👍
You might be right!
I gotta say as a Marshall man myself I'm stoked to watch the video of your Marshall rig. That cab is awesome in all the right ways. That jazzmaster kicks ass by the way. Great video.
Congratulations…that last chord you played right before you said “I’ll take it” was so sweet! Looking forward to the setup !
If ever a guitar had Matthew Scott written all over it......
Thanks for taking us along for the ride!
I'll take it! ...that got me! 😂👌🏼 Such a great (and funny) moment.
And as always, it was a pleasure to watch and hear those beautiful Fender tones!
Good luck, and keep going! 🪐🪐🪐
Nice score! Always fun watching you pick up vintage gear. Thanks for sharing!
My first guitar was a 62 jazzmaster, I still have. I wanted a Les Paul, but I got what my single mom could afford. It was $125 in 1972
Love my documented ‘62 with OHSC ❤️. I am thankful and blessed to have had this come across my path.
That was a lot of money in '72
A couple of weeks wages… about $2k in todays money
It would’ve been great to know how much he paid for the cab and the guitar.
Zoo music is not the only throwback guitar store we got, Competition Music is in a little better shape in a much worse part of town.
Damn nice patina on that Fender! Doesn’t sound bad either! “I’ll take it!” Yes sir! So would I!!! Congratulations Matthew on another brilliant find!
I can’t believe how amazing those tones are on that guitar when you played it. I cant imagine it sounding any more kick ass if you raise that pick up. It had a unique kick ass sound. Killer guitar. Great find for you man congrats
Short lived version.. dots with binding
Matt buying an ultra rare super vintage guitar in a case in pretty nice condition and chucks it in the back of the van like he's leaving a punk show. You, sir, are a quintessential guitar player and I love what you do, and this just certifies how legitimate you are.

I really like this video format and hope you do more content like this.
This is awesome. Your playing is getting really incredible and I always love to hear it. It would be incredible to hear you play through an old Marshall! I think you could do it justice better than most people nowadays
Sounds great even pre-setup! Nice find!!
I really enjoy these vids where you do this stuff!
Guitar stores like that simply don’t exist in England. I would love to stumble into somewhere like that… ❤
He didn’t stumble on it. Somebody has contacted him to let him know they have something he is interested in. No one drives for hour on the off chance they might have something you’ll like…
@@linesy77he may not have but surly somebody has👍
@@linesy77 he didn't say matthew stumbled on it, he said he would love to stumble on one like it.
Too much greed and lack of instrument education is th e problem in the iu.k. I lived yhere for 28 years repaired for just as long
What I like about Matt is that he always get to the point. Fantastic!!
Great find Matt. That store is incredible.
Dude, MOLD.!!
Man. What a gem. Congrats baddy.
I haven't been in a music store like that for many years, either.
Hell yeah keep these videos comin’!!! 🔥🔥🔥
I love these videos ....

I totally agree with you. Hopefully they'll be some Pulsonics in that cabinet and at least he'll have that out of the way.
That water leak in that store is extremely concerning. They should have been on top of that situation immediately, closing shop til it's fixed asap. Standing water is bad for a guitar shop. Humidity kills guitars, and electronics.
It’s been there forever lol
ya don't say? wonder if the owner knows!
Yeah, its had that leaky roof for like… 20 years 😂
I'm just gonna go out on a limb and say he knows, and it's a money issue. Both in terms of the fix itself, and the loss in potential revenue from closing until it's done. Sometimes these old buildings make what should be a simple fix into a real quagmire.
It’s funny how humidity can also be desirable for a guitar too!
2 very cool pieces of gear! Kudos! Hope to see the guitar in future videos and can`t wait to hear you play through that "Marshall rig " you mentioned - is that for a specific project? Maybe a new record...?
"I'll take it." The Jazz Master goes to the Master guitarist!
Where it belongs!
yeah------that was a really good "I'll take it"
Hes not much of a negotiator
I grew up going to that shop. Looks exactly the same from 20+ years ago.
Sick guitar! Can’t wait to see you get it in order and take it for a rip!
This is what I love about bricks-and-mortar retail. No, it's not the giant conglomo chain stores I love - it's the niche shops that have been around for years (and still have the weird stuff covered in dust on the shelves out back from like 1982 to prove it.)

"Wherever you are, playing your sound is amazing🎉🎉
Love the face that you made just before saying "I'll take it" and turning off the amp. So satisfying.
Wow! That guitar is beautiful! It must feel amazing to play!
Great video! (as always)

It would be awesome to see a comparison between two models from the first years of production of both guitars, 1954 and 2018
I love everything about that store. From the scope and maze like layout to the old guy shuffling about in the background.
I like how the "road trip music" is Matthew's! Works for me...
1:00 Oooooh a Legend amp! I owned a combo amp from Legend, years ago. They were made in Syracuse NY decades ago. Great amp!!!
me too they were loud! lucus flowers has a few videos on them he and his dad collect them
Well if Billy Gibbons used it on Eliminator it is good enough for me😉
I had a Legend Rock "N" Roll 50 that had an oak cabinet. It was very heavy. The speakers in it were terrible until I replaced them with a better version of Celestion speaker. I sold it for $600 cdn on reverb. I still have the old speaker mounted in a cabinet that I haven't used in a very long time.

Oldschool guitars shop are the best !
Great find, I can't wait to see the jazzmaster fully restored

Good find Matt
i love jazzmsters man and people who plays and also loves them are a friend!! cool playing and absolutely a stunning piece of gear
Congrats for this beautiful guitar, sounds nice. Waiting for the next video on this guitar 👍

Awesome find man! Can't wait to really hear it.
the trucks just made me respect you even more if thats possible.
Looks like a great find. Can’t wait to see more.
Nice Matt!
Some cool treasures found for sure!
the Jazzmasters were often overlooked in the vintage market deal . might be a keeper.
Yup...I have a early 1966 Jazzmaster, neck dated Feb 13 1966. White Body, Matching Head Stock, Rosewood Fretboard with Dot Inlays and white binding. you should have bought that Legend!! I had that exact guitar, year and color. When you pulled it from the case my heart stopped.
Search for Frye boots.
Great found, matt! In vienna we can dream about a 6tees jazzymaster,a big rockn rolly &greets from vienna👏👏👏🦊🎸🎶🎵
Nice! In the 80’s & 90’s I had a lake Placid Blue one with blue head stock. Also had a basket cab like that with a 100-watt 69 Super-lead on top… miss them.

The intonation steadyness and playable pushback already present in that state is insane! 😵💫
Very cool guitar and store ! Looking forward to seeing the video on it
enjoyed seeing you out and about on the hunt.
Finally new video!!! Best thing that could happen today😂😅
The store was amazing. There's an old radio/tv repair shop in my town that looks the same. Like a trip to the past. 👍
Jesus, I wanna move to the states just to hunt gems like the ones you find and film! Hehe cheers from Portugal!
Sweet find man! you make it sound smokin' as is ;)
I got the very same one, blond with binding. Natural headstock… I really love it!
Very fun episode- keep it coming bro, love the spirit and love your ;ix too- JR LIX
I played one of those back in the day. Loved the warm tone in pos #1; neck pickup. For heavier rock though it would slip out of tune constantly, soap bar pick-ups too noisy.
Much prefer Strat hss configuration. Great playing & roaming camera work.
Nice finds. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with them.
I got the same 1965 Jazzmaster with binding ,still rocking with me
you made the guitar sound beautiful nice playing
I love that it has the dot inlays. I never liked the newer block inlays on a Jazzmaster. Personally, if it were my guitar I wouldn't change a thing about the finish. I'd just raise that bridge pickup and give it a proper setup.
that guitar has a beautiful voice. I know you were the one playing it, but it did have that mojo tone.
00:00 Wow!!! Nice rides!
Vehicles are also vintage! :)
Glad you didn't bust the buckle off the guitar case tossing that Marshall cab in the van!
Always some cool guitars and tasty licks on your videos Matthew. Thanks
that was an amazing guitar store!
That Jazzmaster looks so sweet. Love the old blonde ones.
Chicago Music Exchange posted a video recently with a bunch of Marshalls they got from a Colorado collector. I'm sure they have a Super Lead for you.
Look forward to seeing the updates on this!
Legend amps…. I owned one …. Outstanding locally made amp from Syracuse NY
Love these road trip videos!
Reminds me of Craig's Music in Weatherford, Texas- not far from there. All vintage gear. You would love it. Its as big as this store, same vibe, everything.
cool both are extremely vibey... Looks like a jumbo re-fret. Nice tort guard as is for the typical 65/ 66 guards...
The Legend half stack!! I had a friend years ago who swore by his Legend combo, with all the same styling as that half stack. Sounded great, but I've never seen another.
Binding with the dot inlays is transitional late mid to late 65, Jazzmasters are great, Congrats.
What a cool ass store. I would love to dig around in there. I bet there's some amazing stuff
I’ve got a 1958 strat, untouched, looking for buyers.comes with a 1962 super amp. 76 yrs old time to pass it on!
Shoot me an email matthewscottlive@gmail.com
WOW that's cool ! love to git me a JAZZMASTER ! also love all those Fender piggyback amps ! Thanks Matt !
