    Passed my driving test yesterday with 1 minor ( wheel on line parking ), didn't have access to a car so only ever did lessons with instructor and watched pretty much every clear view test... Definitely helped. Failed it 3 times tho at the start, once taking it too soon, and twice had the same examiner who I'm convinced just made stuff up to fail me. Don't get disheartened on your journey like any new skill it takes time and it will happen, and some of your worst lessons are actually the ones you learn the most on.

    • @barsorrro
      @barsorrro ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Yeah, right? This is something that really bugs me, too. I understand that she's not meant to help the person tested with handling the driving part -- the "being safe and legal" part, or even the judgement of the car's dimensions when doing manouvres. But the driving test is not about testing the competence in finding out on the spot, in a stressful situation, how to operate a car that's foreign to you.
      Especially that Mercedes's have a few quirks to them: the electronically-controlled parking-brake with the button in a fairly idiosyncratic location, the one common stalk for operating lights, indicators and wipers, this not-so-common location of reverse (opposite the first).

  • @barsorrro
    @barsorrro ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Not wanting to be nitpicky, but didn't I hear it correctly that when answering the question about the vehicle, Sharani said that she would turn the car _off_?
    I mean, as I see it, these questions are treated as sort of a pure formality, but there's quite a lot of sense in asking them and in verifying that the novice driver answers them correctly, and preferably with understanding :).
    The reason that you check the brakes and the steering with the engine _on_ is that the assist systems for them would normally be powered by the running engine -- consequently, if the engine cuts out for whatever reason, you should expect the car to suddenly become significantly harder to steer and to stop.

    Aman, I'm sorry to bring it up again, and I hope you don't mind, but I'd rather you wouldn't have these situations occur where the participants are struggling to discover how to operate your car while you just sit there smiling. I'm sorry, I know there's no major harm done, and it's all in the spirit of a bit of additional fun, but it bugs me, because I perceive you as a nice, helpful and very reasonable person, and these situations really grind -- there's absolutely no sense to them and they don't represent the reality of a true driving test. Nobody is expected to know the controls of every car, or even -- of every popular car. And nobody would attempt to pass their driving test in a car they don't know decently well.
    I realise that a counter-argument one could make is that a qualified driver should be able to drive just about any normal car and that the controls are marked with standardised symbols, but to assume this as a normal level of competence for the average driver is completely unrealistic to me.
