Was Monster Seed the one that created monsters based off save files on your memory card?
@@rpgaholic8202 I think you're thinking of Dragon Seeds, which just gave me the hardest hit of "Ohhhh yeaahhhhh, I remember that" I've ever felt. I think I rented it from Blockbuster one time. Monster Seed made monsters based off of seed type and a few other small factors. It played like a strategy game. Super cheesy too
Legend of Legia 1 was a pretty good rpg that gets overlooked as well.

@@onewaytriggames8832 but legend of legia isnt one of those examples. its still incredibly obscure and overlooked. including the 3 of you in this comment chain that marks 4 total people ive found on the internet that have even heard of the game. legend of dragoon is way more popular and even it is on the edge of obscure.

The Legend of Dragoon is one of my favorite games. Love it so much.
Yes it's a absolute gem and I'll never forget playing it.
Jade Cocoon is short and sweet. Very fun game with memorable bosses.
It wasn't so short if you wanted every skin/entry in the beast log. Took me a year to figure out that your name changed the first creature you get.

Universally panned (in the states) when they came out, but well worth a playthrough: King’s Field 1 and 2! From From!

Wanted to get into these ones back in the day but the PAL versions of King's Field (yup, New Zealand no no NTSC PSX over here unless you were clued up with the import scene!) was nearly unplayable due to it's sluggish controls and shitty frame rate. Was a precursor of things to come though - look at some of the 1st person RPGs that have come out since then (ie, Skyrim).
Same studio that did dark souls.
As a kid without a pc in the late 90s I went into funcoland and asked if they had anything like Everquest and the guy pointed me toward King’s field. At first I was understandably a little disappointed but over time it really grew on me. Solid games.

Jade cocoon was my introduction to the RPG world. still love it
I knew Jade Cacoon would be #1. I stumbled into the game by Blockbuster rental and it kept me playing for hours.
I stole it from them before they shut down.
einhander is gorgeous, it could pass as a ps2 game it’s so polished
Tekken 3 vagrant story and dragon warrior 7 along with syp filter 1 and 2.
Sherm Hart those aren't hidden gems. Everybody knows about those games.
Got all of these great review though and there's plenty more hidden Gems waiting to be discovered
Brigandine is an excellent tactical J-RPG. I recommend!
I'd suggest Silent Bomber, an amazing 3d arcade by Bandai.
Developed by CyberConnect! Their other game on the platform, Tail Concerto, is also really good :)

Look up "Incredible Crisis", you won't regret it. A true PS1 hidden gem, the game just has so much bizarre personality, it's hilariously awesome and fun, albeit short.
Also, I don't consider The Legend of Dragoon a "hidden gem" it's widely considered a favorite among many ps1 owners.

Nice list! Some underrated gems i thought of: Jackie chan stuntmaster, Jumping flash 2, Ninja, Nightmare creatures, Courier crisis, Ray tracers, Lomax, Gungage, Ape escape, ESPN extreme games

This is what i love about the PS1 library. There are just so many games and everyone has their group of favorites. There wasn't the ever present internet at the time telling you which games you are supposed to like/buy. I remember just browsing stores looking at the cases. Found some true gems that way.

If Legend of Dragoon is not the best rpg on ps1, what would you say is? I own them all personally and can say from experience that Legend of Dragoon is on it's own level. And I mean, I own ALL ps1 rpgs. From Persona to Tales of Destiny, Lunar, etc.
Played most of the games. Legend of dragoon is a masterpiece almost as equal to ff7.
It was ok not great; but fair. Beat it and really never thought about it again. Nothing remarkable about it.

"Ehrgeiz is a fighting game that takes many characters from the popular Final Fantasy series" No...no it's not. The game has literally THREE Final Fantasy characters in it as guest characters, that's it
In fact they are six:
- Cloud
- Tifa
- Sephiroth
- Vincent
- Yuffie
- Zack
There’s also the character Django who basically is Red XIII with another color.
I think that with 6 FF character vs 11 Original character it’s appropriate to say there are many FF cameos.
So it's not a game that takes many characters from the final fantasy series, it's just a game that takes 6 (or 7) characters from the final fantasy series... Got it.

Jade Cocoon will stay in my heart forever and I only finished it once. The soundtrack, the atmosphere, it´s a real gem. Legend of dragoon is awesome too

LSD Simulator is not something you get from dream at all...This is something you get by sitting on the toilet fighting for your life!
I totally played einhander but completely forgot about it!!! Similar to it was G Darius. One of my favorite hidden gems is the Tomba series

All good choices. I remember really liking the Einhander demo. My friend had G Darius and it was fun. I don't really like shmups either. Also Tomba is my favorite. I was actually playing it last night in an emulator.

Not sure I'd put ANY Squaresoft games on a hidden gems list as most of them are pretty well known. Good list though, Dragoon and Jade cocoon are phenomenal
The Adventure of Little Ralph, Harmful Park, Sexy Parodius, Cotton 100%.
For a video done in 2019 these games have constantly been brought up. Einhander has a cult following and is expensive.

FF7 is my favorite game of all time.
I feel like Legend of Dragoon isnt a hidden gem. Soo many people talk about it and say how great it is that it becomes overrated as I just found it boring as a kid.
I feel the same way. I see people talk about it on EVERY ps1 video talking about how no one talks about it. I love jrpgs, but I found it boring, too.

The ultimate hidden gem.
Great episode. I'd personally recommend Clock Tower on the PSone. Graphically it looks bad. But, for it's time it was pretty impressive as a child. Now, it's a point and click adventure style in real time which gives it a more unique feel than other games of it's type. There are multiple endings, around eight I believe. We have some genuinely amazing scares in this game and I love it. Tons of secrets as well. It is possible to save everyone in the game, or even die at the beginning and get a bad ending right away. Though challenging, you can make it with some memorization. Will you survive... Clock Tower?

Legend of Legaia is another PS1 gem that is often overlooked. It uses a similar battle system to Xenogears and the story is great too. I'd heavily recommend it to anybody that is a fan of PS1 RPG gaming.
Everyone knows legend of dragoon it's not a hidden gem in fact if someone makes their top 10 jrpg in psx it's impossible not to mention this game perhaps even within top 3.
