Games played: Rayman (0:01), Suikoden II (0:09), Klonoa (0:24), Gradius Gaiden (0:45), Legend of Mana (0:55), Resident Evil 2 (2:04), Metal Gear Solid (7:05) Also, I just wanted to mention that while I show the hybrid prototype of the Nintendo PlayStation.. there were indeed plans at one point for an add-on unit (as I say "add-on" in the video). Also, you can use the PS2 memory card to back up PS1 saves (as many of you have mentioned). However, you still need a PS1 memory card to create those save files to begin with.
The Suikoden games are amazing. I actually got Suikoden 1 for $2 complete. The front cover has a crack in it but for $2 I can't complain. I would love to own Suikoden 2 on disc but it's like $800Au or more for a complete copy and I need complete copies.
Blatantly saying the 5th gen 3D games are all ugly shows how little of video games these people actually know and how little they enjoy games in general. I hope they aren't as critic with their own ugly selves, specially as they age. Apart from that, there are so many unique 3D games from the 5th gen for the N64, PS1 and Saturn with so much charm and great art direction, this was a great generation for gaming fans.
I've always been a fan, but for whatever reason, I've become a much bigger fan of the PS1 in recent years. Whenever I go to a second-hand game shop, it tends to be the console I go straight for. The shift from the Super Famicom's dominance in Japan to a new 3D platform from a less controlling company lead to all sorts of strange and inventive new games. There's so many games that are just completely unique to the PS1. Bushido Blade, Bust-a-Groove, Bomberman Fantasy Race, Bishi Bashi Special, and that's just the Bs. Sony's perceived coolness and multimedia focus seemed to lead to games that were lead less by programmers and project planners and more artists, musicians and creative directors, and I think a lot of really cool and distinctive games came from that shift in perspective. I've also become a much bigger fan of how PS1 games look in recent years. Now, with so much shared middleware and graphics engines, it's hard for games to carry much of their own visual identity without opting for heavily stylised graphics. On the PS1, every aspect of the presentation relied on the creativity and technical knowledge of the developers. 3D models, pre-rendered assets and hand-drawn pixel art could all be used in tandem to present some really complex visuals. They're more constrained by the limitations of the game design too, which makes them feel like a more natural, logical part of the game. I really love how Metal Gear Solid and Klonoa look and will take them anyday over Twin Snakes and Phantasy Reverie's less distinctive styles. I love the PS1. I think it's one of the most interesting consoles ever made.
You joke about people thinking the PS2 was just a DVD player, but this feature was huge in Japan. It kicked off a huge spike in movie rentals, and it was the go-to device for DVD playback, with games being incidental for many buyers.
It was a huge selling feature in the states as well, and that's precisely why I joked about it. I knew a lot of people back in the day who thought it was its best feature.
@@RetroBirdGaming 12 year old me in 2002 was not terribly happy when my mom made me share the PS2 so that her and my sister could watch Bringing Down the House once. But I was definitely happy when mom brought home a dedicated DVD player so I was then able to move it to my room. But in the beginning all my PS1 saves were wiped because the offbrand memory card my big brother bought me for my 8th birthday didn't hold up when I got the PS2.
PS1 will always be in my heart as that was the 1st console (not portable) gaming system I bought with my own money. I've had other consoles, but they were hand me downs & I didn't have to spend a dime. Before Mario Kart my favorite racing game of all time was Jet Moto. No drifting in that game just some futuristic electric bolt to get you around corners! That just blew my mind. Also didn't know the PS3 played PS1 games. I may still have mine. (Project to look into today!) Thanks again for the Bird Seeds for my future enjoyment of my Retro Games!
That's fine I couldn't find my PS3 I may have given it away as I didn't know it could still play PS1 games. However, I did keep my PS2 because I did know that could play all the PS1 games! So Star Wars Rebel Assault 2 is still...Game On!@@Fools_Requiem
Preordered the PlayStation at an electronic store in 1995. It was one of only a few game consoles that I would ever preorder. It and it’s game were everything they advertised and I own my original complete in box. There were so many games released that I wasn’t able to keep up let alone enjoy them all and to this day I discover wonderful games like Board Game Top Shop. Give it a go, it’s become one of my favorite PS1 games of all time
I was born in 2006, do not care about 3D games at all, and only know Sony for their Blu-rays. Hell, let's find out how to collect for the PlayStation1!
Awesome video, RetroBird. Your writing and composition pertaining to the topic for these weekly videos is absolutely superb, plus your humor, wit, and facials are hilarious. I almost woke my family up laughing out loud immediately after you put up the baby picture of you crawling and seeing you coming around the couch crawling on all fours!
I feel like "Treasures of the Deep" doesn't get talked about. It was definatly one that brings back ps1 memories. It's very original and the gameplay is great. Thanks for the video👍
I didn't have a PS1 as a kid so I had to go to a friends house to play it. I have fond memories playing Mega Man 8 and Blast-O! I'm more of a SEGA collector but I purchase PS1 titles here and there and man does it ever have a fantastic library. I especially Recommend Die Hard Trilogy, Twisted Metal 2 (please bring this series back), and the Syphon Filter games 👍
Love all the screen time you gave to Suikoden 2 and Legend of Mana. Two of my all time favorite games! I’m glad that attitudes are slowly changing on the PS1’s legacy.
Thanks for giving Klonoa so much shine here! The funny thing is that you can copy PS1 saves to a PS2 memory card. You just can't use them! Ape Escape isn't talked about as much as I'd like it to be. It just came out on PS5 but still, it sucks that it's been 15 years since the last proper Ape Escape (Ape Escape 3 in 2006). Interactive CD demo discs are also very nostalgic. Parappa 1 and 2 along with Um Jammer Lammy also need more love. Oh, and Tomba in America/Tombi in Europe.
Recommended games that don’t get talked about much (or much anymore): Vandal Hearts - probably the best strategy game ever made. Tenchu 1 - great stealth ninja game Tony Hawk 2 - Great soundtrack, timeless fun, everyone seems to have forgotten these games. Wild Arms - Almost never heard anyone talk about this, it’s not super expensive and will have you playing for scores of hours.
When my original PS1 died I ended up playing all my PS1 games on my PS2. Even got a Japanese PS2 so I could play Japanese PS1 games. The PS1 is probably my largest collection at this point, I’ve been buying the original long-box games for a while, have about half of them so far.
Syphon filter is a series I have somehow managed to completely miss out on * not even aware of its existence* and have been having a lot of fun going through them
I grew up with the n64,but recently I bought a ps1 and several games. So far I am having a blast. I still have my old consoles and all my games. I was one of the luckier teens during the 6th generation, having both a ps2 and gamecube. Man those were some great consoles.
You gave Klonoa the recognition it deserved so that was gonna be my recommendation. Instead, I'll go with Croc:Legend of the Gobbos. Fun little 3d platformer with an amazing soundtrack and alot of charm that goes severely underrated.
I rarely hear about Future Cop L.A.P.D. and I always enjoyed the gameplay in that. It's funny that you asked right before mentioning saving on games without the original case because mine doesn't have it's original case but that's just because I couldn't find one locally with the case.
To answer this video's question, is a game I've mentioned it a few times in the comments. The first Fear Effect is my favorite PS1 game nobody talks about anymore, though in truth it's probably not the most obscure thing on the console, it did get a sequel that received a lot of press for all the wrong reasons. The first game has a pretty tight narrative even when the story goes full bonkers in the later half. It's a cool dark sci-fi neo-noir survival horror game with stylish early cel-shaded graphics. The thing that holds it back and probably why a lot of people don't talk about it anymore is the wonky tank-controls and finicky trial and error combat. It's also kind of a product of its time in terms of subject matter and some of the "Rated M for Mature" material. If you can look past that and are in the mood for something that feels like Akira meets Blade Runner then I recommend it.
Love that game! I remember wanting to play it since it had that Cel shade style and I was addicted to Jet grind radios art style I don't mind the tank controls but some of the puzzles were so cryptic. I had to look at an online guide for that part where you were in a kitchen and had to sneak past everyone. I have the sequel but have yet to play it and its a shame Fear Effect Inferno never came out 😔
when i got back into playing 16 bit and 32 bit games, the market for a lot of these libraries had been insane for a while. i started with the saturn import collection and found that a lot of japanese ebayers were charging $25 or more for shipping so to make that cost worth it, i'd throw a few low dollar titles into the cart. i'd buy a high dollar game for what i felt was a reasonable price then add a bunch of cheap games. now i own most of the saturn's rarer shmups along with a bunch of killer ps1 import titles. the ebayers i've dealt with were willing to combine ship as many as 6-7 games at a time. this method has made import collecting super worth the effort.
I'd recommend Civilization II on PS1, it works remarkably well with the adapted controls and the advisor FMVs are classic. I'd also recommend playing PS1 games on PC with Duck Station to get a massive quality boost in graphics and fully rebind-able controls, Gran Turismo 2 looks amazing.
Also if you side load duckstation for retropie you can play games that won't load or work with lr-pcsx rearmed. Games like star wars rebel Assault 2 WWF in your house Legend of mana The later Madden NFL games NBA live 98 through 2003 Other games too.
One game I can recommend (before the impending price hike) is Saga Frontier 2. It's one JRPG that seems daunting, but is an excellent example of storyline, gameplay and music. And it is not necessary to play the original to fully understand the game.
Tecmo's Deception. The game is weird and creepy. You build a mansion, set traps and then get to act as bait to either kill or capture invaders. It's had a few sequels, but I personally liked the charm of the original the most.
Legend of Mana is a goat tier rpg for sure. I was a part of the early 00s cracking of the code so to speak (crafting recipes for god tier weapons). Not enough people give that game praise that's for sure. I still have my original copy. I think I have nearly everything on ps1 featured in the video, asise from the junk platformers meant to illustrate a point.
Just a week ago I got my first PS1! A good place to start is the Final Fantasy games on PS1! Square Enix still sells FF games brand new. Final Fantasy Origins Final Fantasy Chronicles Final Fantasy Origins Basically, FF1,2,4-6 and Chrono Trigger, and they sell them at a reasonable price.
This is a good summary of how to play a physical PS1 collection on different PlayStation hardware. The PS3 is a terrible way of playing these games on a HD TV though. Hooking a PC/laptop into the TV is probably the best way of using original discs. I recommend the ePSXe emulator. You can also use your original controllers with a USB adapter that costs only a few dollars too. The emulator will save without memory cards but using original memory cards for your old saves and writing new ones on is where technical hurdles begin. That was also kinda the same on PS3 (no memory card slot) but the solutions for PC aren't so user friendly.
Some of my favorite PS1 games are The Twisted Metal series The Crash Bandicoot Series Psychic Force The Unholy War Gundam: Battle Assault 2 King of Fighters 2000 Anything made by Capcom
Ps1 game library is amazing! Crash, spyro, tomb raider, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, tekken and Street Fighter series! The prices have gone crazy but i still find them in the wild once in awhile. I recommend the game team buddies very fun game!
The ps1 is and was such a powerhouse....so many it's started life on the ps1. Really enjoyed the video, great games featured! I was one of those that was well pleased to find out that I could play my ps1 games on my ps3... Nice one 😉👍
If you're getting into PS1, get the PSOne. The PSX are prone to laser issues. However, the PSX with a serial port... That opens up the opportunity to get a PSIO mod!
I would recommend the amazing selection of lightgun games for the PS1. Time Crisis and Project Titan; Point Blank 1, 2, and 3; Area 51 and Maximum Force; and the two biggest hidden gems, Gunfighter: The Legend of Jesse James and Elemental Gearbolt. That’s among others both good and bad, but all fun in their own way, except Extreme Ghostbusters…
I had my PS3 connected to an old CRT TV for years when I first got once back in 2008. It's difficult to read the text but it never stopped me having fun or completing games. I remember trying it on my parents large screen TV but I always preferred my CRT. My parent threw my old TV away a few years ago so I've estranged them. I'm not joking.
Bro, my family got in an argument over this last night as i was going through all my games and stuff asking where is this and where is that? My mom says it wasn't her job to move it from the old house while i wasin jail, so she gave all my rare Jordans basically my entire childhood stuff is gone
I missed the PS1 train completely back in 1995 as I still played my SNES. I got into PS1 in 2002 and checked out what I missed. Boy did I miss a lot of classics. I played your crash games, Spyro games, Castlevania games and so on. I had loads of fun 🙂. These days I can play over 400 PS1 games on my retropie and enjoy the PS1 games that way.
Hi retrobird - love the videos. Im a 1st gen gamer (very old dude) since atari 2600. With the ps1 I was there at launch and the games I never hear about are the early ones, mostly 2d efforts such as rapid reload (a gunstar heroes ripoff) hot blooded family (japanese beatem up), mr domino, bishi bashi special, radical bikers, incredible crisis, broken sword, super pang collection, puchi carat. Im in the UK the pal library was huge, I ran a video game store when the ps1 was king and the dreamcast was being launched. The dreamcast being my fave console ever. I left the business around the time of the wii launch - gaming changed a lot by then, but am still a huge gamer. Also I used to be a huge collector / player of neo geo mvs games, though I parted with the colllection years ago I still play the games using a neo geo mini. Sorry im getting sidetracked... more obscure ps1 games theme hospital, kudelka (rpg made by snk) kula world, any games made by jvc, penny racers, the list is endless🤘
I believe I already mentioned it in a previous comment but I would recommend Incredible Crisis as an underappreciated PS1 game. It's a minigame collection but the story and characters have so much charm that it really feels like a unique experience. Also I think it's one of the best looking 3d PS1 games. The animations and environments are super detailed.
I really appreciate that this video didn't focus on the rarity or "collector's value" of these games, but rather the merits of the games themselves. Too often do I see the content of video games overlooked for the purported prestige of their place on the market. As far as a game I'd recommend people check out? I was tempted to list a few games which are great but unfortunately pretty expensive, but going right along with my sentiments above I'm going with "Sorcerer's Maze." It's a Breakout clone but you play as either a fairy or magical cat thing through 101 different levels of various patterns and block types with a lot of neat magical upgrades throughout. So, it's a fun game, fun concept, lots of content, and there's even a two player mode. On top of it all, a CIB copy will set you back less than $10 according to Pricecharting, and that's about how much I got mine for. Definitely worth checking out!
@@RetroBirdGaming Awesome! If you want a taste of what it's like, I've got a VoD up where I played a medley of PS1 games from my own CRT setup. Sorcerer's Maze starts about about the 1 hour mark, and yes, I have since fixed the sound issues and my streams greatly benefit from it. 😁 www.twitch.tv/videos/1521562033
One game I would ABSOLUTELY recommend is VAGRANT STORY by Squaresoft. It is severely overlooked as it came out towards the end of the PS1 life cycle and is a stunning SHOWPIECE of what the system is capable of graphically. The gameplay is unique, soundtrack is amazing(the ending credits song called Phantom Pain is Grammy worthy!), character design is interesting and story is great! Check this one out for sure.
My grandma had got me goemons great adventure for n64. Had never heard of it but not only was it completely different but it was completely awesome!!! Forced myself to play it at first but once I got into it, turns out it was one of my favorites 😎😎
I know this is a collecting video and I do have a small collection of PS1 games (about 40) but as the prices continued to rise, I was praying for a different original hardware solution...in stepped the PSIO...and then the Xstation, which is my current choice. Good quality ODE's that can play (in the Xstations case) every PS1 game! The PSIO allows you to keep the disc drive, but it has some compatibility issues. Anyway, just an option for those who want to play their original PS1 and save some $.
Right now im playing through my SNES collection, but i cant wait to start collecying and most importantly play PS1 games, there are so many great games for it besides the usual greatest hits.
At ending you're right on saving money because I went into this thinking my ps1 collection is by far my most expensive collection. But I have to have CIB. And its preference by early titles in long box but thats just me and with current economy I won't be buying any long boxes unless I find an under the radar ebay auction and its on the cheap
I will never forget the first time I touched a PlayStation. At KB toy store. Hakeem Olajuwon’s hands were diamonds, and they were the greatest thing I had ever seen.
You are a funny guy. The game "In the Hunt" looks very good, but I never have played it. The best way to play PS1 games today seems to be with the MiSTer which is emulation on hardware level and no input lag, and HDMI output of course.
The PS1 is awesome for the 3D games because it has the way better camera angles compared to modern systems because you can see everything & it pans with you like 2D games. Example of that would be the Resident Evil games. Games I recommend for this system. The Resident Evil games 1-3 (for 1 play the Director's Cut) Crash Bandicoot 2 & 3, Dino Crisis 1 & 2, Fear Effect 1 & 2. Metal Gear Solid, Star Wars The Phantom Menance & Silent Hill. The 2D games for sure. Resident Evil 2 on the PS1 is by far the best Resident Evil game I have ever played. Never mind about the crappy RE 2 remake where Mr. X is chasing you throughout majority of the game.
i actually happen to be just starting out collecting ps1 games since i got two of them in a trade last week. when looking at games i decided to start off my collection with colony wars and the activision atari 2600 collection. both are great so far!
Harmful park is the best. So many great 2D games I never knew about back in the day. Never liked the 3D look of it so never bothered to get one as a kid.
So many great IPs from the SNES carried over to the PS1 and is why I consider it the spiritual succesor to the SNES. You can't save PS1 files to PS2 memory cards but you can store files on them. An odd feature that almost no one uses.
Under the radar PS1 game I own? Mat Hoffman’s Pro BMX. A Tony Hawk clone on a bike. And it’s not as smooth as Tony Hawk, but I still have fun with it. My collection is pretty standard otherwise.
the ps1 is hands down the best console out there. I have over 300 titles for it. Out of all my console systems I own, I have the most games for my ps1. Resident Evil and Castlevania symphony of the night are the top 2 games ever made in my opinion and they just so happen to be on the ps1. Other great sleeper games just to name a few on the console would be heart of darkness, oddworld, and lets not forget Einhander, I could go on and on but now I have to go to work. Great video!!!
Highly recommend looking for titles people don't regularly mention as I've noticed they can be grabbed for a decent price & are a lot of fun. Bloody Roar series Jet Moto series Jade Cocoon
You couldn't play ps1 games from a ps2 memory card BUT you could store them there. And they barely used any of it's memory. So you could use your ps2 memory card to switch out the ps1 memory card roster by transferring back and forth. Like a huge memory reservoir Did you also know a ps5 controller works on a ps3 if you plug them in?
Ape Escape for the original PlayStation pioneered the Dualshock. It's one of my favorite games of all time just because of how unique it is. I highly recommend it to anyone! Anyone else play this masterpiece?
The 2nd console I owned. Didn't get many games as a kid but over the years I've bought a bunch of games. I only have about 100 which is a small amount. Like other consoles there's some super expensive games that I would love to own. Like The Adventures of Lomax.
I bought the Classic as never experienced any of those games only certain PS1 games (GT, Spyro, Crash Racing, Scrabble, Millionaire, I don't have a lot on me so they were all new to me) even when used PCSX or DuckStation to play particular ones which is what I do play niche games I don't care for the big ones really but with the Classic I didn't mind that. So seemed suitable for me to get it even regardless of PAL/NTSC as live in PAL so didn't bother me (nor do unsuccessful products anyway bother me) just experiencing the games. Not added more games to it yet though. I think it's a fine selection even besides the licenses but of course adding more makes sense.
Can agree having tested it now it moved a PS1 save to PS2 works. Really had no idea never tried it as thought they weren't compatible data on 8MB cards for some reason. Will try now and copy over my data. Would have thought that was only a homebrew thing or so. I assume 8MB ones don't get understood on PS1 but PS1 data on PS2 cards huh then of course on PS3 with adaptor and it's digitally accessible from there of course.
Here are my favorites that don't cost too much and are relatively unknown: -Board Game Top Shop (A super fun Monopoly/Sim Tower board game). ~$40 CIB -Runabout 2 (An extremely fun arcade driving game with great detail to the levels. The first game Felony 11-79 is also good.) ~$40 CIB -SledStorm (Once popular but forgotten game that has to be played to be appreciated. It just feels so good to play. Best snow machine game in existence.) ~$10 -Warpath Jurassic Park (A very fun Dinosaur fighting game exclusive to PS1 that is full of nostalgic JP vibes. Great graphics too.) ~$60 CIB -Street Racer (An okay kart racer. But man is it beautiful and cheap.) -$10 CIB
What it Do, stellar video , a recommendation gem for the Ps1 "Top Shop Board Game" monopoly mixed with quirky strategy and odd Japanese culture. Worth a go if you like those genres. Keep up the great work Big 🐦
Big fan of primarily the RPGs on PS1. I liked a few other games too but I find the 3D graphics of the PS1 jarring. Not many 3D titles have aged well at all. I was disappointed more devs didn't push 2D and sprites to the limit on PS1.
My recommendations; stick with most of Capcom Ips(they actually gave all of them equal treatment back in that era ), Square soft classics , both lunar games , Castlevania symphony of the night , and the silent hill games
I.Q.: Intelligent Qube, I remember loving the demo that I had on either a disc that came with the console or the PlayStation underground and then couldn't find the game until years later at a crazy price, but I know I got plenty of use out of that demo
One thing to remember about PS3 backwards compatibility with PS1 games is that while the PS3 is not region locked, PS1 games on the PS3 are region locked if your PS3 is not modded. So US NTSC PS1 games will not work on a PAL PS3 etc.
I haven't seen anyone in the comment section suggest it, so I will: Armored Core! I've recently gotten into the series after Armored Core 6 was announced and it's a series I regret not playing sooner, especially because the cost of them is so high. My favorite games in the series are on PS2, but the series of course started on PS1 with the original Armored Core and its expansion sequels Project Phantasma and Master of Arena. Too many people only know From Software from 2009 onwards but before Demon's Souls they were making some of the best mecha games on the planet since 1997. Great series, doesn't get enough love.
A lot of people may not know this but you can store ps1 save files to a ps2 memory card and then transfer it back to a ps1 memory card whenever you run out of memory card space on said PS1 memory card.
So many good games on the PS1! I won’t mention the well known classics, but here are some gems I love that I feel deserve more attention: Hot Shots Golf 2: it’s a fun golf game, pretty easy to pick up, and super solid. Twisted Metal 2: great vehicular combat with good stages and characters Xena Princess Warrior: I originally expected this to be garbage being from a TV series, but it’s actually pretty fun. It isn’t too long either, so it doesn’t overstay its welcome. Legend of Dragoon: good RPG with interesting battle mechanics. You time your hits (like in Mario RPG for the SNES), so it almost feels like a little mini rhythm game.
The Playstation 1 is what got me into JRPGs and I do have quite the small library. As for Playstation 2 was my second DVD player and at the same time got me the Tales series. Playstation 3 my fatty darling is my own personal Media center in other words I can watch video's I downloaded via DivX and I have about 400 songs on there two
If you're a shmup fan, I highly recommend Squaresoft's Einhänder. It's quite intense and tough-as-nails! The interesting mechanic is that when you destroy an enemy, you can attach their weapon to your ship! It has a real amazing atmosphere, soundtrack and plenty of stuff to unlock!
That's the great thing about the PlayStation. 1 is you could get 10 different people and ask them their top 10 games and they'd all have different choices. Compare that to people who owned a Nintendo 64 they generally always go for the same games because they were so little choice on that platform
Happening here in OKC at 12:20am. Great comment!
I would recommend vandal hearts, x2, reloaded, raystorm on ps1. Playing a lot of vandal hearts since the ps1 core released on MiSTer.
I have heartburn while watching this.
I was just about to go to bed. Looks like I'm staying up for another 14 minutes 👍
Same here! Lol
Wooow another 14 minutes? Did you run that extra time pass mommy and her new male friend?
why not 7 minutes? why u watch in 1x?
I had that exact same feeling but a year later
Same!!
I've always been a fan, but for whatever reason, I've become a much bigger fan of the PS1 in recent years. Whenever I go to a second-hand game shop, it tends to be the console I go straight for. I love the PS1. I think it's one of the most interesting consoles ever made.
I have owned the PS3 slim for 11 years and had no idea it could play PS1 discs. I'm now playing Croc. Thank you sir!

The PS2 fat is the best IMO, having the actual PS1 chip on board is a great feature.
PS1 games look great on the PS3.
Star Wars Rebel Assault 2 doesn't work for some reason, though. :(
That's fine I couldn't find my PS3 I may have given it away as I didn't know it could still play PS1 games.
Thank you! Very kind of you :)
Nice!
Nothing better than unwinding to a new retro bird video before bed 😌
Recommended games that don’t get talked about much (or much anymore):
Vandal Hearts - probably the best strategy game ever made.
Tenchu 1 - great stealth ninja game
Tony Hawk 2 - Great soundtrack, timeless fun, everyone seems to have forgotten these games.
Wild Arms - Almost never heard anyone talk about this, it’s not super expensive and will have you playing for scores of hours.
Grog Drinkwater of Vandal Hearts is still my favorite video game character name I've ever come across.
You genuinely look like you have a great time creating your videos! So glad I stumbled across your channel, looking forward to diving deep.
Glad to have you on the channel as well my friend!
When my original PS1 died I ended up playing all my PS1 games on my PS2. Even got a Japanese PS2 so I could play Japanese PS1 games. The PS1 is probably my largest collection at this point, I’ve been buying the original long-box games for a while, have about half of them so far.
Syphon filter is a series I have somehow managed to completely miss out on * not even aware of its existence* and have been having a lot of fun going through them
One of the best series on this console in my opinion.
A game in my opinion, that gets bashed too much. Therefore a great recommendation 👍
That game has always looked decent to me but I never tried it. I'm a sucker for platformers too :)
I rarely hear about Future Cop L.A.P.D. and I always enjoyed the gameplay in that. It's funny that you asked right before mentioning saving on games without the original case because mine doesn't have it's original case but that's just because I couldn't find one locally with the case.
The Crash Bandicoot games on PSX still look great! And they are 3D. Tekken 3 also still looks great. MGS 1 still looks good, etc.
I remember wanting to play it since it had that Cel shade style and I was addicted to Jet grind radios art style
I don't mind the tank controls but some of the puzzles were so cryptic. I had to look at an online guide for that part where you were in a kitchen and had to sneak past everyone.
I have the sequel but have yet to play it and its a shame Fear Effect Inferno never came out 😔
@@immitationstation3369 I know....FE: Inferno's cancelation was probably my biggest disappointment from the PS2 era.
Fear effect is an awesome game. I played that back in the day. I liked the fact that it was 4 discs. The cd case was thick. Which looked cool.
when i got back into playing 16 bit and 32 bit games, the market for a lot of these libraries had been insane for a while. i started with the saturn import collection and found that a lot of japanese ebayers were charging $25 or more for shipping so to make that cost worth it, i'd throw a few low dollar titles into the cart. i'd buy a high dollar game for what i felt was a reasonable price then add a bunch of cheap games. now i own most of the saturn's rarer shmups along with a bunch of killer ps1 import titles. the ebayers i've dealt with were willing to combine ship as many as 6-7 games at a time. this method has made import collecting super worth the effort.
Games like star wars rebel Assault 2
WWF in your house
Legend of mana
The later Madden NFL games
NBA live 98 through 2003
Other games too.
One game I can recommend (before the impending price hike) is Saga Frontier 2. It's one JRPG that seems daunting, but is an excellent example of storyline, gameplay and music. And it is not necessary to play the original to fully understand the game.
Great game, yes. Anyone who would be interested, emulate it and experience it if you don't care about having a physical copy, like I did.
Here's one. Jumping Flash! I really like that game. So different from anything I've seen before. Great game.
Just a week ago I got my first PS1!
A good place to start is the Final Fantasy games on PS1!
Square Enix still sells FF games brand new.
Final Fantasy Origins
Final Fantasy Chronicles
Final Fantasy Origins
Basically, FF1,2,4-6 and Chrono Trigger, and they sell them at a reasonable price.
Some of my favorite PS1 games are
The Twisted Metal series
The Crash Bandicoot Series
Psychic Force
The Unholy War
Gundam: Battle Assault 2
King of Fighters 2000
Anything made by Capcom
In The Hunt for the PS1 is a fantastic underwater shooter that hardly anyone talks about. Great video as always!
Those are awesome gun games.
Light gun games are always such a great time.
I look forward to your videos each week. Thanks for all you do
Thank you for watching!
Nah man, you deserve like 100x the subscribers. Great quality videos!
I used to love Ape Escape, Croc, and Tomba as a kid, they were always overshadowed by Crash and Spyro.
This video was fantastic! Your channel deserves to go to the moon!
Thank you!
To goodwill. Now im buying everything from the goodwill website lol
I love the versatility of the PS3. I own all Playstations except for a 4. The 5 plays most 4 games very well.
PS1 was the first console I Owned
I believe I already mentioned it in a previous comment but I would recommend Incredible Crisis as an underappreciated PS1 game. It's a minigame collection but the story and characters have so much charm that it really feels like a unique experience. Also I think it's one of the best looking 3d PS1 games. The animations and environments are super detailed.
Your cutaway visual gags have been getting better and better! Keep up the good work!
Glad you appreciated my approach and I'll have to look into Sorcerer's Maze.

"They were doing the best they could with the technology they had at the time" Well said.
In the Hunt on the PlayStation is a great arcade conversation and fun game. And I use my PS3 to play on my CRT 👍🏻
My grandma had got me goemons great adventure for n64. Had never heard of it but not only was it completely different but it was completely awesome!!! Forced myself to play it at first but once I got into it, turns out it was one of my favorites 😎😎
I have a PS1Digital modded console, and the games look beautiful on my 4K OLED with 960p output
G-Police and Colony Wars are in my opinion two hidden gems...
I grew up through the ps1/2 area so many good news..it's well known but favorite 2.5d games on ps1 tomda grandia ..great vid keep flying bird 🐦
I lol'd multiple times during this video. Excellent blend of humor and info!
Glad you liked it :)
A strange feature indeed. Could be useful for storing away some game saves of longer RPGs or adventure games.
I can save PS1 games to my PS2 memory cards. I'm confused as to why others can't. Maybe because I use Free McBoot?
I own a Japanese copy of Einhander! It is indeed amazing.
Highly recommend looking for titles people don't regularly mention as I've noticed they can be grabbed for a decent price & are a lot of fun.
Bloody Roar series
Jet Moto series
Jade Cocoon
You couldn't play ps1 games from a ps2 memory card BUT you could store them there. And they barely used any of it's memory. So you could use your ps2 memory card to switch out the ps1 memory card roster by transferring back and forth. Like a huge memory reservoir
Did you also know a ps5 controller works on a ps3 if you plug them in?
In addition, I bought the PS3 memory card peripheral and you can copy your PS1 & PS2 saves to custom named virtual memory cards on your PS3.
Ape Escape for the original PlayStation pioneered the Dualshock. It's one of my favorite games of all time just because of how unique it is. I highly recommend it to anyone!
Anyone else play this masterpiece?
The PS1 is the best out of all of the 5 PlayStation systems
Elemental Gearbolt gets my recommendation for being one of the few lightgun games on the system. It has cool Anime asthetic to it too.
For me the goto ps1 is FF tactics. X-men legends. The first game I owned with ps1 back in the day was RE2.
The 2nd console I owned. Didn't get many games as a kid but over the years I've bought a bunch of games. I only have about 100 which is a small amount.
Like other consoles there's some super expensive games that I would love to own. Like The Adventures of Lomax.
Another way could be the PS1 Mini. While the Mini wasn't up to everyone's standard, there was a mod which improved it.
@@suntannedduck2388 Nice 👍
You can backup your ps1 saves on a PS2 memory card. I do this frequently when playing RPGs just to have a back up.
Correct. It can definitely be useful if you just need a place to store your files.
Oh man, I love some PS1 recommendations. More please :)
Gotta say, love seeing the respect given to Legend of Mana, great game. A PlayStation game that I've always enjoyed was Thousand Arms.
11:51 okay that really made me chuckle in public. 😂
Here are my favorites that don't cost too much and are relatively unknown:
-Board Game Top Shop (A super fun Monopoly/Sim Tower board game). ~$40 CIB
-Runabout 2 (An extremely fun arcade driving game with great detail to the levels. The first game Felony 11-79 is also good.) ~$40 CIB
-SledStorm (Once popular but forgotten game that has to be played to be appreciated. It just feels so good to play. Best snow machine game in existence.) ~$10
-Warpath Jurassic Park (A very fun Dinosaur fighting game exclusive to PS1 that is full of nostalgic JP vibes. Great graphics too.) ~$60 CIB
-Street Racer (An okay kart racer.
Hercs adventure is probably my favorite game for the ps1 and it never gets talked about. Super underrated.
It’s a pricey one nowadays
You can download digital ps1 games from any region though if you’re into it
I haven't seen anyone in the comment section suggest it, so I will: Armored Core!
Great Video.........Like Always 🤟👍
Thank you!
A lot of people may not know this but you can store ps1 save files to a ps2 memory card and then transfer it back to a ps1 memory card whenever you run out of memory card space on said PS1 memory card.
So many good games on the PS1! I won’t mention the well known classics, but here are some gems I love that I feel deserve more attention:
Hot Shots Golf 2: it’s a fun golf game, pretty easy to pick up, and super solid.
Twisted Metal 2: great vehicular combat with good stages and characters
Xena Princess Warrior: I originally expected this to be garbage being from a TV series, but it’s actually pretty fun. It isn’t too long either, so it doesn’t overstay its welcome.
Legend of Dragoon: good RPG with interesting battle mechanics. You time your hits (like in Mario RPG for the SNES), so it almost feels like a little mini rhythm game.
Incredible Crisis is a game that deserves more attention and is hilarious.
I own Einhander myself and it is amazing!
I knew of all the backwards compatibility but I’m just a fan on the hardware itself
The amount of obscure, hidden gems on the PS1 is wild. I could easily name like 50 from my own collection.
That's the great thing about the PlayStation. 1 is you could get 10 different people and ask them their top 10 games and they'd all have different choices. Compare that to people who owned a Nintendo 64 they generally always go for the same games because they were so little choice on that platform
The PS1 is a console that I want to start collecting for. Great video!
To add to your very last point, if you don't mind repro cases, you can easily go disc only grab a repro case and come in way less than a CiB listing
