      @@SmartEasyDIYer I agree with this poster. If I was a major TH-camr, I'd subscribe to you. Was looking into getting a G7, prefer phones with removable batteries, but not afraid to do myself when needed. Thanks to you I now know this isn't hard. Thank you!

      Yes I replied to your other comment as well but it sounds like with that smell that you punctured the battery so I would replace it as soon as you can.

    A word of caution. My Motorola G had a clear sticky protective sheet of plastic between the battery and circuit board. Be careful not to damage the power on button and volume adjust button on the side of the case when you remove the battery. Otherwise this was a great instructional video and helped me save a few hundred dollars, not having to buy a new phone for the time being. I would not by another Motorola unless the battery change was a simple removal like most other manufacturers.

    helped a great deal. my moto had been dead for several months after I dropped it in the bath (don't ask). I dried it out followed all advice I could from forums and TH-cam etc then gave up and shoved it in a draw. Bought a new phone. But there were pics of the grand kids on it and I didn't want to lose them. It wouldn't charge and i couldn't get into any menus to reboot etc. Finally, today, I stepped it down, battery out, and checked it over with a magnifying glass. Corrosion on contacts in phone below where battery connects. carefully scrapped of with a plastic toothpick (similar) cleaned any dust with a 'puff brush' I use on my DSLR put it back together and it worked. It's now fully charged and seems ok!!😘 Fingers crossed time but just in case I've just downloaded those pics. Cheers

      Uhm, good chance your pictures were on the SD card. You could have simply removed it and put it in your new phone and pulled them off it to your computer or put the SD card in you computer directly. If the pics were not on your SD card, set your phone(s) up to save all pics to your SD card... that's what it is for!

    • @yorkslad9589

      David Boyd uhm, well for the sake of a few quid spent on screwdrivers and a bit of patience I not only learnt more about the workings of the phone I also now have it fully working as a back up.
      There was another problem also. The phone doesn't have a SD slot therefore your idea may have been somewhat problematic

    Best battery swap video I've ever seen. Excellent editing, precise focus, audio and deleted fumbling and screw turning. I anticipate using your links and instructions soon, as my RePublic Moto G has begun loosing power in less than 8 hours and most of that time it's at rest, with the WiFi shut off. Thank you for demonstrating how to do the job and make an instructional video correctly.

    Thank you for posting this. Currently, all the phone companies are changing to sealed-unit phones, with a few exceptions. The Moto G5 still comes with a easily removable battery, the Moto G5 plus does not. I have the Moto G and have for 3-4 years, its battery finally wont hold a charge longer than 6 hours even when not in use, so this video helped me decide to keep the phone and swap the battery! This is the easiest one that I've seen! The link you provided still points to the best deal on the battery, and it includes the screwdriver. Get that and a guitar pick and you are good to go!

    Just completed my battery change over following your instructions! Thank you so much. Interestingly my side buttons for start up and volume control fell out! Took me a bit of fiddling but finally managed to line them up correctly. Just waiting fir the phone finish optimising apps and start up but there is power! Just another note for anyone else who may have issues at first getting the screws out. I finally rested the phone on paper towel on hard wooden table and that did the trick. Ive never used a torx before and if i can do it. Anyone can. Thanks again!

      Hah. The Moto is my wife's phone. I phone is a Nokia 6303 classic that I got in 2009 I think. It has only needed one battery change since new and still going strong! Who needs a smart phone anyway? I'm thinking that when this gives up the ghost, I will revert back to a couple of tin cans and a piece of string....

    Your video from almost 5 1/2 yrs ago still came in handy! I have an old Moto G "2nd edition" that was similar enough that I was able to figure out the differences & replaced the battery myself this evening in less than hour. Now it's almost new again with a $13 battery from eBay. I thought the screen was warped a few years ago & bought a newer phone, but it was just the battery ballooning up and pushing the screen out. This appears to be a common problem with these thin phones & flat lithium batteries --my newer phone is bulging now after 2 years also! Thanks for your helpful video.

    Great video, thanks. I was surprised that the volume and power buttons fell off while removing the screwed on back. It took careful study/trial and error to replace them properly. Not sure this is a good idea, but before re-screwing the back I powered up and tested the volume. I figured if I made some mistake I'd rather know before putting everything back together.

    What a great video.I wish more people did instructional videos as well as this. Here is a caveat. I was not able to disassemble my phone without turning it sideways and upside down. if you do this the on off and volume buttons will fall out and can be difficult to get back in. Yes you do need to do the 14 screws again but the more often you do them the easier it gets.

    I'd just like to say thank you for this tutorial, helped me with changing the battery for a co-worker of mine. She had already given up when the cell phone store said they aren't replaceable and they no longer sold the battery. I was at least able to recover her files and contacts from a phone with a dead battery with the battery from her husbands which was exactly the same. Got a T5 screwdriver locally though, a Wiha made in Germany.

    • @SmartEasyDIYer
      @SmartEasyDIYer  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Jadon Rogers Yeah I don't know why they do that.. More and more are going to a sealed unit now though like samsung etc.. I think LG is one of the better ones that still have a removable battery. There are more brands that are getting better though too and battery life is getting better.

    • @garyha2650

Is it worth getting it fixed for a high priced repair? I am going to buy cheap cell phones from now on no more expensive cell phones for me

    • @hsmith1180
      @hsmith1180 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I actually prefer the Motorola because they are one of the few better brands who have phones where you can actually replace the battery relatively easily. Others are sealed & you have to be a total geek to get in there and even then it's a risk & you have to use heat guns and all kinds of BS. this protects the battery from casual damage or easy theft & still allows for people to replace the battery when needed instead of having to get a new phone.

      Logically it seems a good idea for all mobile phone reviews to include the possibility of easily replacing the battery but the fact that folk buy very expensive phones suggests that they are not bothered about this matter and it's just a throwaway society. If the economy of the world drops in future years the matter me become more important !!! End of story.

    Thanks for the video man. Of course they are making more and more "supposedly" user non-serviceable products. This increases profits for the corporations selling the products. Any way to beat the corporations out of profit is the way to go. I would rather give my money to a small company providing tools or parts to beat the corporations out of profit. Plus there is a huge price difference. New Motorola G 3rd gen ~150€, or a new battery and toolset for ~15€...easy decision.
    Lastly I like to keep the 1st gen because I consider 4.5 inches to be the perfect size for a phone. My pockets don't get bigger but unfortunately smartphones do with every new year it seems. -.-

    My battery was strongly glued. It took a lot more effort. I figured how to detach the cable end and plug in the new one. Also figured out the orientation of the side buttons when both fell out. Also found that no glue on the new battery does not seem to matter.

    hi, my phone is the same but the battery appears to be 'stuck' down so even after peeling back the tab and pulling something is still holding the battery. I think it may be an adhesive tab under the battery but don't want to damage board pulling too hard, any ideas?

      +Yorkslad I would just work it carefully if possible. You could try applying a lil heat carefully as long as it doesn't get your board warm.

      At the end l Lost 1 screw, l broke down another, and could no longer put some of the others into their Place.

      Smart Easy Repair It appears the Moto G3 battery replacement procedure involves removing the touchscreen with a heat gun, detaching the main board, then detach and unplug the battery. Doable (about an hour's time). Need a few tools like the screw driver you used in your tutorial as well as a heat gun or hair dryer. Motorola has eliminated the 14 screws from the back piece so must access battery via the front of the phone. But now I've looked at the new G4Plus. Hmmmm.....

    • @SmartEasyDIYer

    My Moto G began acting strangely earlier today. At first, it showed the charging lightning symbol in the battery indicator at the top right of the main screen, even though it wasn't plugged in. when I did plug it in, the battery did not charge. I went to the settings and it said "not charging." eventually the phone shut down completely. I'm pretty sure it's not the cord, because when I plug in the charging cord the screen gives me a battery indicator with a 0%. The phone will activiate and then immediately shut down. Is this an issue with the battery? I have no idea what to do about it.

    • @SmartEasyDIYer
      @SmartEasyDIYer  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah if your pretty sure that your charging cord is ok then it sounds like it could be your battery.

    • @alexvanslyke5998

      Crap. They had to go and make it virtually impossible to get the battery out, huh? That screwdriver is the same one for the screws on my pocketknives AND xbox360 controllers, and it's the only screwdriver I don't have. It's a conspiracy, I tell ya! I just hope it's just a matter of taking the battery out and replacing it, because I'm a bit too lazy to go and get a new battery

    Great video and thank you for showing this. See, things can be user-servicable if you know what you are doing like this guy clearly does. If you take your time and pay attention you can do it also. Don't pay somebody to do something you can do yourself. Think of it this way - the person who you would pay $$$ to do this for you is flesh-and-blood just like you are and not some super intelligent alien from some other planet. You can do this yourself just like you can work on your car yourself if you chose to. And don't give me this oh you cannot work on modern cars today - they are too complicated. Again, is the "technician" at the dealership some super intelligent alien or flesh-and-blood just like you? Don't sell yourself short.

    Not to be nitpicky, but you may not want to cover the tool's important bits with your fingers when showing the tool. I thought it was a Phillips head until I realized I had my sound muted and then heard you say "T5" and got a closer look at the screws themselves.

    • @SmartEasyDIYer
      @SmartEasyDIYer  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the feedback. If you look though around 0:42 my fingers are not in the way of where it says T5 on the handle of the screw driver. That is why I mention it verbally too though in case it's hard for some people to see.. Thanks.

    • @gregariousjb
      @gregariousjb 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Paul W True. It's a unique-case scenario. If you have someone who has their sound muted (accidentally or otherwise), and on a mobile phone (small resolution makes it hard to see small words or the shape of the screws), showing the tool up-close is going to be important to them. Minor, but noteworthy.

    • @SmartEasyDIYer
      @SmartEasyDIYer  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that's a good point.. That could be a unique situation like in your case.. I'll keep it in mind for the future.. Thanks.
