Having now done the repair to my XT1068 I can confirm that the process is exactly the same except there is a second SIM carrier attached to the SIM/msd frame. Great video, clear instructions, no waffle - thanks a lot
Replaced my broken screen (I bought the complete frame assembly) by following this video. It was a pretty nerve racking and fiddly job but it is all working now, so a big thanks to Jerry, I couldn't have done it without your video!
JerryRigEverything Yes and frankly something of a surprise! I didn't bother putting all the screws back in before powering up as I was fully expecting that I'd have to dive straight back in again to fix something. Thanks again for your detailed instructions.
My Moto G 2nd gen phone was submerged in a swimming pool and had no life signs. I Changed very carefully the motherboard, the SIM and microSD board, the screen with the frame, the speakers and connectors, also put a new battery, and works again. I was lucky. Thanks for your video!
Wonderful!! very clear instructions on replacing various parts on the camera. Managed to rescue my sons holiday pictures and fix his phone with a screen replacement. Not all the steps were necessary to replace the screen so leave the parts on that don't apply to you. I had to move across the ear speaker cable and tape it in place (not shown) but no problem. Many, many thanks for your posting........from England
Excellent Video. Clear, precise, NO waffle and to the point. Simple to fix the phone with this video. Fixed my first ever MOTO G entirely by this video without ever having touched one before. Superb
Thanks so much for this video. I was able to replace a cracked screen. Two points: 1 - There are two black tabs on the side of the battery closest to the edge of the phone. These are where the adhesive is applied, so when trying to remove the battery, these are the areas to concentrate on getting your spudger tool under. 2 - The replacement frame & glass came with new adhesive strips covered in red. With a fair amount of effort, you remove the red and then you have new adhesive strips for the battery
having just done this repair on the xt1072 ie the 4g version I don't recommend that you try the replacement of the glass and frame in one go. It is easier just to replace the glass. the internals of the xt1072 are different to those shown in the video in several ways. most notable there is an antenna cable running down one side of the phone and this is fragile and has a tiny cirtuit board at one end thats difficult to separate from the frame, also the antenna cable has two sections of its insulation removed and the original xt1072 has special projections that make contact to the screen of the antenna. the replacement screen I got didnt have these projections so to make contact i wrapped the cable in foil. so i recommend just getting the glass and keeping your original frame - this will mean a lot less disassembly and your frame will be compatible with your circuit board.
The battery does unclip but again it doesn't look like the videos you see. If i recall the battery connector lifts up out of the connector on the board rather than coming out sideways.
+John Lonergan Thank you very much for the reply and extra info. It is surprising just how little is available for this variant compared to the others.
A superior instructional video. Having never done this before, ever, I worked MUCH slower than the video shows, only replaced the battery and was very careful handling the circuitry. So, it took me 90 minutes.
My Gorilla Glass screen was shattered. I followed your instructions and completed the repair. Glad I spent more and bought this with glass already mounted in frame! Thanks Ruby for the screw size tip! My biggest problem was getting the camera and vibrating motor removed. Not a job for someone in a hurry. Thanks a bunch for your repair video!!
I spoke too soon! I cannot get SIM card nor the SD to read. I have torn back into it and plugged and un-plugged the connector to no success. I suppose I damaged the assembly somehow in removing it. Anybody know where I can purchase that assembly?
Hi Jerry - well done. I was going to throw this away, but had the nerve to follow your instructions to fix the USB connector. And no, I didn't solder, I just 'squeezed' it in some tiny pliers! Works great.... for a while at least :-)
I was digging through my old stuff and found my old G2. Been subscribed for a while now and wondered if Zack had done a tear down for it- sure enough, he did. Really interesting and fun to see how far these videos have evolved (moments like 1:25 had me laughing)
I finally cracked my screen for this phone after years. Unfortunately, when I searched for a replacement part, I was just looking for the screen, and didn't know about having the casing to go with it. Do I really need to take literally every part of the phone apart before I can get to the screen? Yikes. I very much appreciate the close, detailed camera setup you have, and the step by step directions. I've got my tools in front of me, a cloth to make sure nothing rolls around too much, and a little pill bottle to hold the tiny screws, so wish me luck!
Replacement is done for now. The new screen is in, but without enough direction on where to put the double sided tape, I figured what made the most sense was to glue the flat back part of the LCD screen to the back of the phone case. For the record, DO NOT DO THIS. I think you're supposed to put the gummy tape around the border so that the LCD screen It seems like it works until you put everything back together, then the screen kind of pokes out the front a bit instead of sitting flush with the front part of the phone. I think the distance between the screen and the speakers is giving the speakers a kind of fuzzy / muddy quality, so now my audio is messed up. Another thing to note are the little trapezoidal tabs you might see in the inner case of your phone. These are what your external case is supposed to grab onto to support itself. I have a pile of 4 of them that were all snapped off. Initially, I was just assuming that those things were supposed to break. A sort of "if the phone is dropped, make sure these things take the impact instead of the more sensitive parts of the device" thing. At the end of the day, the replacement is Done. Playing audio through the phone's speakers seems like it might be permanently messed up if I can't rip off the adhesive glue behind the LCD screen (I have a suspicion that that would destroy the LCD screen itself, so I don't want to risk it). I can see the screen again, but if my phone suffers another failure to a critical system, my plan A will be replacing it. Excuse the grumpiness.
hi, great video, one thing to add. the one I opened up had two black straps on the side of the battery. turns out they are there to help pull the battery out, which might make it that you can pull out the battery without the need for a tool. thanks again
Thank you for this video. I used this and 2 other videos for reference when changing my screen and touchscreen. I almost panicked when i tested and the phone came on but not the screen. I had not placed the motherboard screen cable correctly. You really need to get it all the way in there. I hope the phone will last another year now before I need to replace it :)
Oh I also wanted to add that if you are getting the tools with the screen make sure that the Torx T5 screwdriver is of some quality. The one I got with the screen started to have its metal head stripped on the 7th screw! It then started to strip the screw heads slightly. Quick trip to the hardware store to get a torx set was better then stripping the screws!
You don't have to disassemble all components to change the screen. You only need to unscrew the 3 screws that hold the motherboard, pull the sticky tapes from beneath the battery (yes you can pull them, slowly and they won't tear). This way the whole motherboard with the battery can be removed and placed on top of a new screen. Of course you have to unplug the ribbon cables that are connected to the motherboard (screen, front camera and sensors)
Great video - and it all worked for me in repalcing the screen BUT now the speakers arent working. I rechecked the connections but all seem OK. Any ideas?
Thanks for your vid and links, one point to note don't tighten screws to much, I did for the one under in the sim slot and it now has a faint blur on the lcd under the screw hole, oh well. Everything else is A.OK
Ok, I figured it out. During the battery swap process I had dislodged the antenna wire. It has a push fit connector at each end and I had dislodged the lower end. Took me ages to work it out as every time I took the back off the phone everything looked in order and most of my attention was focussed on the ribbon connector of the PCB with SIM/SD trays and LED light.
HeY nice video.. i have a question, my MotoG fell into the water, at that time i some how switched it of and not powered it on for 2-3 days as i was letting it dry off. Afterwards when i tried to switch it on it was not booting up, nothing was on the screen. I gave it to service center but just seeing the IC they said the IC got short and the only solution is to replace the whole IC without even checking it. I seen some videos online showing perfectly working Moto G even submerged in water. I wanted to know that is there any other way to check whether the actual problem is with the IC or anything else. Looking forward to ur reply.
Hi there. Nice video. My Moto G2 heats up (really hot) at the top right side, it takes +12hours to fully charge and then the battery drains in less than 4hours. Is an indicator for a battery replacement? Or it could be another component that is damaged? Thanks..
Hi JerryRig, thank you for this very useful video. My Moto g 2nd gen XT1068 front glass cracked but the phone is working good. So now which part i should buy? Only the glass or entire touch screen frame set? Could you please suggest me?
Janu Reddy You can attempt a glass only repair if you want... BUT it is super super difficult and most people fail. So The safer and easier route would be to just buy the whole screen replacement.
my bottom speaker isn't working after replacing screen. i accidentally pried open the speaker and copper coil(i think) unwound a bit. does that mean my speaker is not fixable and need to replace it as well? thanks
Hello Jerry. I have a problem with my speakers and the mic. They dont work. Are the speakers used as mics at the same time or is the mic connected to the display?
I have a broken sim slot. Is it possible to purchase the sim/sd ribbon assembly as a single piece or would it be necessary to purchase the SIM card reader and resolder it to the ribbon? With a soldering iron would this be a difficult fix for someone with a minimal amount of experience working with electronic? If it is doable is there a particular type of solder to use? Thanks.
What do I need to unscrew the back? I got a micro sim trapped in the slot. Also do you have a video for repairing the camera lens and flex cable on a Google Nexus 5?
hey Jerry, how do I connect my speakers into my new frame and motherboard? I was able to complete the repair, but no sound :( I'm not sure if you said anything about it. thanks
Hey Jerry! I changed the screen (frame) of my Moto G2, everything works fine, but the speaker (both) sounds really bad, before I changed the screen they worked great, do you know what may be happening? How can I fix it?
@JerryRigEverything please tell me if lcd + screen touch digiter can work properly before glueing it to frame. What I mean by that is if the connection is complete. My screen is white, I don't know if I bought a faulty lcd
What sticky tape would you recommend? I bought the screen and tool set, replaced the screen but the screen will not stay in place; when I plug it in to charge the light lights up but then it goes out...thank you
this looks a bit complicated what about heating the front part of the screen and then get the flap out and replace the screen that looks much easier ,my phone just got broken and Im confused between two methods of replacing it.pls suggest
Hi. I was able to repair by phone thank to you. Thank you. But unfortunately my bottom speaker is not working correctly. Any ideas? Should I replace it?
I replaced it with the LCD setup just as you showed. But i have ghost touches from then. They are really plaguing me since 1 month. Please help soon :)
Thanks! This video helped to replace my screen but I have a problem... after replace, the screen is killing the battery. In battery options I see that the display is consuming up 45%!!! Any help with this?
Hi guys, I followed this very useful tutorial in order to replace a tired battery in my MotoG. Since putting it back together, neither SIM card slot is working. Other than taking the phone apart again, disconnecting and reconnecting the ribbon connector, does anyone have any ideas on what the problem might be?
Hi, I accidentally dropped my motog 2g from a low table while it was in it's shield and yet the screen is having weird colorations and also looks like every other line is not working making the screen project weaker light and blurrier image. What do you suggest I should do? Thanks!
Got a problem with the microphone (calling partner on the other side of the line always hears him/herself in an echo). Is there any chance to get this replaced?
Hi Jerry, I own a motorola moto g 2nd generation. I dropped in water..and i tried to apply the solutions given on the net on how to fix a water damaged smartphone. I put in a bag full of uncooked rice for 2 days. and It seems as nothing changed.can i apply your solutions? when i click on the power button..it shows the screen that comes when you want to factory reset it
Hey, everyone. I did the screen replacement as in the video and it works great. The thing is, I can no longer hear anything from the phone. Does anybody know how can I fix this?
Hi Jerry, My moto g (2nd generation) fell into water and turned off itself later. I have dried it by all means. Now the problem i am facing is its screen is not showing up anything, whereas the volume up/down buttons producing noise as its working. Its Vibrating on pushing power button. Also power + volume down (screenshot) feature looks like working but nothing turned up on screen. Whats is the solution to this ? Can we connect phone to get its display on external monitor or something ? Thanks in advance.
Hey Jerry my Moto G 2nd phone's notification light is continually on even after switch off also & because of that my battery is also dying very early I remember this issue started when my phone got some rain droplets while I was out for trip can you please help I can get off this notification light
hi jack...my moto G(2014) charging port has stopped working. i know it's a bit late to discus about that "old" device but i would really appreciate your advice here.
my phone is not switching on, i have tried that rebooting option also but then also its not switching on. Do youhave any solution for it? I am having full mobile repairing tool kit.
The earpiece of my moto does not work any more. As far I could get it from your video, it is located on the same board as the camera, but you didn't show exactly where. Before I disassemble my phone I would like to be sure that the earpiece is easily replaced?
Hi! My phone fell into water for a few seconds and nothing major had happened. Well except, when it starts it gets into FastBot bcause it thinks the Volume Down Key is pressed. And if i press the Volume Up Key in fastBoot, instead of selecting it just scrolls. What can I do to repair my phone?
Having now done the repair to my XT1068 I can confirm that the process is exactly the same except there is a second SIM carrier attached to the SIM/msd frame.
Great video, clear instructions, no waffle - thanks a lot

The little circuit board was j held on by soft glue that I was able to pry off.
Not sure what you mean about the battery.

Thanks Jerry, today I replaced the first time repairing the cellphone
battery with your help and . Thanks a lot
Thank you for this video, just replaced the screen successfully.
The battery has been the most difficult to unglue.
Nice tutorial! I watched this before replacing the damaged LCD on my Moto G 2014 and found it very helpful. The new LCD is working great!
Thanks JRE. Couldn't have done it without the excellent video quality. Many others were poor quality video and spoke too fast.

Thanks for the short and nice video. Successfully changed the battery of my moto G2!
my bottom speaker isn't working after replacing screen. i accidentally pried open the speaker and copper coil(i think) unwound a bit. does that mean my speaker is not fixable and need to replace it as well? thanks
To replace the front facing camera do I have to do all that (disconnect the battery and remove the sim card stuff) ??
Hello Jerry. I have a problem with my speakers and the mic. They dont work. Are the speakers used as mics at the same time or is the mic connected to the display?

JerryRigEverything I'm trying to replace my screen for moto g xt1064 if I buy a digitizer would this be the same steps I take?
Could you please tell me what type of PowerManagement IC could fit on this phone? (Qualcomm PM8921 would be a suggestion?
Would you have a link for the screen and digitiser that ship to the UK, as the given website doesn't seem to be able to ship abroad? Thanks
Can the sim reader be replaced on its own, or do I need to replace the entire component with the sd reader and vibration motor as well?
hey Jerry, how do I connect my speakers into my new frame and motherboard? I was able to complete the repair, but no sound :( I'm not sure if you said anything about it. thanks
Thanks a lot ! This video helped to replace my screen.
Thanks for that. We just managed to change the battery and it still works!
Thx man, my old moto g2 is back to life :)
I bought the screen and tool set, replaced the screen but the screen will not stay in place; when I plug it in to charge the light lights up but then it goes out...thank you
Hello,I would like to know What is the size of those screws? Thank You!
this looks a bit complicated what about heating the front part of the screen and then get the flap out and replace the screen that looks much easier ,my phone just got broken and Im confused between two methods of replacing it.pls suggest

Is this the same process for the dual SIM version?
Great ! It would be possible to change the battery for a Moto G 2014 4G 2300 mAh battery ?
Thanks!, with this video, i was able to repair one of the speakers.
Moises Alejandro Heck ya, glad you got it fixed!
hi mate,is it necessary to remove battery if I only need the screen to be replaced? would you consider separated tutorial maybe?
Best Regards.
imu sh Ya, in order to get at the screen, you'll need to pull out all the guts. Swap the screen, and put all the guts back in.
Hi. I was able to repair by phone thank to you. Thank you.
But unfortunately my bottom speaker is not working correctly. Any ideas? Should I replace it?
Your video n voice are superb bro😘👍👍👍
Have you tried a glass only repair?
I replaced it with the LCD setup just as you showed. But i have ghost touches from then. They are really plaguing me since 1 month. Please help soon :)
Thanks! This video helped to replace my screen but I have a problem... after replace, the screen is killing the battery. In battery options I see that the display is consuming up 45%!!! Any help with this?
don't worry I haven't changed my screen and it's taking up 43%
2:48 - phone repair humor. I LOL'd.
Does this work for XT1064 (White, and could I order an XT1063 display+frame regardless of color?)
Could you please tell where is the microphone?? Mine stopped working and I can't find it on the main board. thanks!!

Hello, Where to buy this screwdriver kit?
I need to fix my Moto g 2gen 4g XT1072 , LCD + Touch screen. Do you have it in stock?
Hi guys, I followed this very useful tutorial in order to replace a tired battery in my MotoG. Since putting it back together, neither SIM card slot is working. Other than taking the phone apart again, disconnecting and reconnecting the ribbon connector, does anyone have any ideas on what the problem might be?
How would you test the voltage for the battery in this phone?
Thank you.. Helped me replace my screen... I feel great..!!!!
Hey Jerry! Do you think Motorola covers cracked screen from their guaranty?
Hanul Choi They do not cover cracked screens.
I read somewhere that they do, but only if you purchased the phone directly from their page.
Does the parts on the ink support XT1063?
is it important to remove the copper sheet if I have to replace the display
My screen cracked but my phone still comes on and works, so would I need a screen replacement or just a front outer glass's replacement
hi,
please add a durability and a tear down of 2015 Moto G3
I broke the casing that surrounds the vibrating motor will it still work?
Hi,
I accidentally dropped my motog 2g from a low table while it was in it's shield and yet the screen is having weird colorations and also looks like every other line is not working making the screen project weaker light and blurrier image.
What do you suggest I should do?
Thanks!
Any idea where to get the screws? The screws on mine are stripped.
Hello. I would like to know if a moto g2 xt1068 battery fit in a moto g2 xt1069. I´m having problems in finding an xt1069 moto g2 battery.

So cool as it is that you can swap the simport that easily, it's a shame that the charging-port has to be solded... Why? Motorola!

Hi Jerry,
My moto g (2nd generation) fell into water and turned off itself later.
