I just purchased the set and I am happy with the performance. These lenses are great for corporate interviews with my C300 MKII. The roll off is nice and they create pleasing skin tones.

Congrats and thank you for this review man, it was a good one, not too short, not too long and perfectly understandable, don't worry ! The only thing missing for me is to see the parfocal function of the lens as we don't a really specific shot showing it. Also it would be good to do a more "scientific test" when you're talking about flaring or bokeh. Maybe just a flaring test in a dark room with a flashlight to really see the characteristics of the lens. For the bokeh, as the lens has 16 blades, it would have been nice to see the bokeh when closing the iris and not wide open. You can also talk about the front diameter and the different possibilities to add filters ( mattebox or screw-in filter). But very good review, a bit more structured about the footage for the next one would be good. Keep up the good work and thank you

For your first video I am very very impressed and subbed immediately . I have the exact same set up. For the money for all of this I feel I have may have stolen from someone. Bear in mind that I hired the very first Red One when it arrived in Uk in 2010 (??) and have seen all the changes along the way. This is all really is all you need as an indie - add in, as I have, a the Tilta FF's and a Matt box and for less than 20k GBP we have ourselves a serious bit of kit

Thank you!! Sorry for late reply, I would assume adding three (0.66) is common for EF mount cameras as since this has to do with the distance from optics to sensor and as the optics works the same with my other EF lenses on other cameras, this one should do the same if you get what I mean. 😅

Thank you Roly!! 🙇 1. They are reaaaally smooth, feels like butter. Hard stops on both ends, very responsive, no play or loose parts at all. Super solid. 2. It's long, it's 270 degrees, so goes almost all the way around the lens. 3. It's 0.8m/2ft8in on the 50-125mm and 0.6m/2ft on the 20-55mm. 👌
great review. loved the focus charts. I love DZO color aberration, and that analog feel it has when you rack focus. It would be nice to see a more controlled, in-studio test. the test footage is too personal, I think.

Hi Angel, sorry for really late reply. Hope you've got it to work by now. I added four shims in total, they have small writings on them and I added two of the 0.3 and two of the 0.03 which equals to 0.66. :)
They're really beautiful. Contax as well though. Don't really know how much as Contax set costs, but in terms of image quality they're pretty equal. 😊👌

First off, I gotta say this is great for a first video review! You're also the first person I've seen to mention that issue with the shims and not getting accurate instructions from DZO. I'm still working through my issue but the first thing I noticed is not just parfocal was affected but the focus markers on the lens became very inaccurate (objects 20 ft away measured at 6 ft away on the lens when in focus on my BMPCC 6k). When you fixed the parfocal issue with the EF mount were your lens markers still accurate?

I'm curious why you went with the 50-125mm lens on a system that's already 1.5x crop. Do you already have another zoom that fits a lower range, or do you just really like to shoot in telephoto?
Sorry for late reply Adam! I don't have another zoom yet, but do use the XEEN 16mm quite frequently, but 50 on a S35mm (85mm) is my favorite look, so shoot most telephoto. 😊 But I do agree you need something wider too, this can't be your only lens haha.

May I ask if the rear glass of this lens goes in deeper than common Canon EF mount lenses? I’m thinking about the future possibilities for me to get this lens and pair it with BMPCC 4K with Metabones Speedbooster.
Sorry for late reply William! It does sadly, I tried pairing it with my Viltrox Speedbooster EF to Fuji mount, but since the lens was made for S35 the rear elements protrudes a bit and hits the glass in the booster. However I had no issues using it with my regular EF to X mount adapter with no glass. 🤷♂️
I don't have the Fuji lenses unfortunately, only tried them during IBC and can't really form a good comparison between the two. It is however a lot more affordable, and since the image quality was so amazing, I bet this lens is at least equal to the Fujinon. 🤷♂️😊🤜

I was in the process of building a contax zeiss prime kit but honestly I may just buy these 2 and call it a day
