Good for you sharing your insights. I have been a childcare provider for over 25 years, have 2 degrees and do not appreciate being referred to as a babysitter. We do provide loving care for your children, the most important job ever and that needs to be appreciated.

I worked in day care/preschool for seven years when I was in my 20s. I probably would have stayed longer but the pay was the worst. We were making less than fast food workers! You really have to love kids to do this work.

couple of things i wish parents would know
    1. your child will get hurt at day-care its not cause they are not been watched but young children are always on the move and want to explore
    2. don't be insulted if you get told your child has had a not so good day its nothing against you or your child its just letting you know so we can help
    3. when potty training pls make sure you're doing it at home and pls don't put your child in diapers when at home it confuses the child
4 bring spare clothes day-cares will have messy play out and your child will get messy regardless of aprons on

Wow 10 2.5 yr olds per 1 teacher? That sounds insane. Sounds like a Lord of the Flies situation. 😂 I feel for you.

It was ridiculous when you take into account everything parents and bosses expect of you lol. My capacity to care for large groups of kids really grew and I learned a lot, but it was really too much to ask of a teacher. Hopefully as time goes on those rules will change.

toys from home was an absolute nightmare...johnny brought his favorite toy from home that danny also had at home. I didn't catch what child brought in the toy, and both danny and johnny were in absolute meltdowns over this toy being theirs. So I put up the toy and told them we will figure it out at the end of the day. Johnnys dad and danny's mom come and pick him up, neither parent knows if it's their toy or not. I ask parents to check at home to see who's toy it actually is. Both danny and johnny is having an absolute meltdown over me keeping the toy. Johnny's dad says "it's probably his" to reduce the meltdown, then danny has an epic meltdown over johnny stealing the toy...I know they have their own special toys, but for the love of anything holy PLEASE put names on EVERYTHING.

Seriously!! Or just STOP letting kids bring toys to daycare. Daycare has toys, and teachers have enough to do without keeping track of a kid's special toy from home 😅

Been in daycare for forty years ! In my early years if you shared an issue with parents it was taken care of by the next morning and you usually got I am sorry too! Now It is what did you do to my child!!!!!!!!!!! I could go on and on but I won't. I love my kids and I love my job but just really worn out!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Burn out is real ❤️ The ammount of things expected from daycare teachers is insane sometimes. What a blessing to all those kids that you've stayed in this profession so long though!

I work at a daycare and I leave at 12:30 and I always never see the parents pick them up but if I always need something I always tell them something the day before when I see them

What about a comfort object? My
Child doesn't use one at home but just started up daycare again at 19 months and holds on to the comfort object all day long. Will this too shall pass?

It may or may not pass. My son had a special blanket when he was a baby that he still has in his bed at night now, and he's close to 7. I'm a big fan of letting kids hang onto comfort items. We have rules like the item stays in the car when we go grocery shopping or someplace fun, but otherwise why not let them have it at home? As far as daycare goes it really depends on his age. If he's little and he depends on it, his teacher ought to let him have it. If he's older and it gets in the way of his play, or if friends try to take it, then he should leave it in his cubby til nap to "keep it safe."
