@@midstoftwilight $125 being very little, mostly, depends on how much they make from these videos. If they do make a lot more than that, then it's a bit scummy, but I doubt it, as they don't, generally, get all that many views.
Also, it depends on where the person doing the work is from. In my country, the minimum monthly wage is 665€, with a 40h per week work schedule, so $125 for 30h doesn't sound too bad.

I swear, Warner Bros. must be one of the worst managed studios in Hollywood. They have SO many great properties that seem to only succeed by chance or after a director fights like hell to make their movie. No other studio has such horrible self-inflicted failures. I don't know why anyone would want to work with them.

As a comic book fan, it’s very frustrating watching them fumble the DCEU so damn badly.
I was even praying that the DC property would some how be bought by Disney. As blasphemous that may sound to others. But at least they know what they are doing. And show that they actually care for their Marvel property. Can’t say the same for WB and DC
WB’s main issues with the DCEU is that they wanted to catch up with Marvel in a year. When Marvel was building something that took them 4 years (Iron Man 2008 - Avengers 2012) and it didn’t help that they had too many cooks in the kitchen. Each one wanting the property in a different direction. Rather than having a single voice steering the ship. And whenever something didn’t go well, they would “course correct” adding more fuel to the fire of ‘they don’t know what the f^€k they’re doing’
They’re like a Hydra. Each head fighting each other for selfish gain. That’s why Josstice League ended up the way it is. It obviously needed to be pushed back and worked on more. But they didn’t. All for a CEO to cash his pay check before the end of the year.

They should just hire Greg Berlanti or Bruce Timm and Paul Dini, and give THEM $100M to make a movie....

Aspects that looked good on paper were awful in execution, and different sensibilities crashed (E.g. Martin Campbell's grounded approach doesn't match with Geoff Johns' comic book fanboy approach).

It had great director, amazing cast and the CGI wasn't that bad. The problem was lack of love put into the product. @@jothishprabu8 It was Guillermo del Toro who wanted the money. He wanted around $250m for the third film in a franchise that never made its budget money back at the box office.
The original Hellboy cost $66m to make, it took $59m gross at the box office, but it did well enough in dvd sales to get the sequel green lit. Hellboy 2 cost $85m to make and took $75m gross at the box office and didn't do as well as the first in dvd sales. So for him to ask for $250m for a third film based on those figures, the man was crazy and that's why they cheaped out and tried to reboot it with a film that wasn't bad, if the previous two films hadn't existed, I bet people would have enjoyed it, but sadly we were already spoiled buy the right director for the right property.
That being said, I would really love someone to give Guillermo del Toro the rights and the money to take on the Nightbreed franchise. As much as I love the original and the Cabal cut, I think he'd be perfect for the job and would happily see him reboot it.

If the Green Lantern HBOMax series is legit, they definitely need someone who can look at the bigger picture and envision where it's going whilst also battling studio interference.

This movie had a large list of issues, but I think the backlash against this was way too disproportionate. Had it been released a few years earlier it would have likely generated a more positive reception. The story is easy to follow, the characters properly established and well cast, it's not riddled with plot holes or nonsensical dialogue and it doesn't depend on a Deus Ex Machina. But, of course, it doesn't really make an effort to stand out. Its biggest issue is that it's too generic.

I did some 3D modeling and texture work in college. Always thought it was interesting that the movie will get credit, the director and actors will get credit, the costume and makeup designer will get credit, but the meticulous detail and hard work put into things like Hals suit, all that animation and painting of those textures... no one gives a shit who did that. Yeah, sure, name at the end of a 5 minute long scrolling list, and I suppose these are mostly outside businesses contracted to do work, like Dreamworks before it was in film, but even then you rarely ever know their names, certainly not awarded anything like "best model or best texture". This movie got crapped on pretty hard, but it still looks neat. Some of what is probably thousands of jobs and people doing brilliant work, but we'll never know who they are despite the quality, even overshadowed because of how a movie is received.

That is one thing about movies and is always irritated me. A studio will hire a director with a vision. And then will immediately start to eviscerate everything they're doing. I will send in their muscle to cut film, rewrite scripts, hire actors the director did not foresee for that part. And then when it completely fails they point the finger at the director like it's all their fault because the studio doesn't take responsibility for their part in what turned out to be a disaster but what could have been a great film if left primarily alone

  • @boricuafeliz

Martin Cambell is one of my favorite directors and given his track record I doubt this film's failure was his fault.
This is not only the director who breathed new life into the Bond IP on 2 different occasions but the director that almost kickstarted a billion dollar franchise with The Mask of Zorro. That movie was incredibly respectful of the source material (as in DECADES of source material) as well as the real historical figures that inspired Zorro. The movie was incredibly successful and made Banderas an A-list star overnight. Banderas was offered 20 million per film to reprise his role as Zorro that were to come out in rapid succession but declined the offer due to wishing to pursue his artistic inclinations. It wasn't until many years later that he reprised the role but by that time the length of time that had passed had materially affected the viability of the franchise (Banderas was older and had had plastic surgery, Catherine Zeta Jones was older, the hype had died down, and so on).
The Bond IP was very near bottoming out until Cambell revitalized the franchise with Goldeneye. Bond could have easily gone the way of The Saint IP and fallen into obscurity had it not been for the smash hit that was Goldeneye. Cambell went on to do to the impossible (as far as I was concerned) by not only selling the world on Daniel Craig as Bond but arguably making the best Bond movie to date along with the most impressive performance of Bond in its entire history.
I had high hopes for the Green Lantern movie when I heard Cambell was attached to the project and was surprised how hard it bombed.
While I have never actually seen the movie, I have a feeling I know why it failed. For starters, Ryan Reynolds was miscast in the role. I agree with Cambell that out of the choices available the only acceptable casting choice was Bradley Cooper. His performance in the film Limitless gives you an idea of his ability to give a character depth as well as make him a badass. Secondly, it was another movie destroyed by incessant studio meddling. Why businessmen think that they can become creatives and artists simply because they analyzed a few charts and statistics beats me. Lastly, the DCEU was poorly thought out, poorly planned, and poorly executed. You need a Kevin Feige type person to be able to pull off an extended universe. The lack of a IP/franchise mastermind who is skilled, gifted, and passionate about the material is what doomed the Dark Universe as well as the DCEU.
Cambell is kingmaker when it comes franchises and he is gifted at breathing new life into IPs. He should have been given full control over the film and been left alone to work his magic.

  • @nealnoir
    @nealnoir 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Your facts about how Reynolds got casted are somewhat incorrect/glossed over.
David Goyer did not pass on Flash. WB asked him to replicate the success he had, had with Batman Begins and hired him to write and direct a Flash film. His script was 2 hrs, with the first hour being an already established flash in the past, Barry Allen, and a passing of the torch plot, to Wally West who would have the second hour of the film. Goyer cast Reynolds as West thinking he would be perfect having had worked with him on Blade Trinity. However WB got cold feet about the project. And Goyer got tired going back and forth with WB and left the project. Joss Whedon was brought in (I can’t remember if this was before or after his failed wonder woman attempt but it was around the same time) and he eventually got annoyed and left. At this point Green Lantern was well into pre production. Campbell wanted Cooper for Hal, but WB had a signed contract for Reynolds to play Flash. And whatever the PayPal deals were for his contract it would’ve cost WB either the same amount of money it would have to have him play a superhero and just walk away or I would’ve cost more for him to just walk away and not do the contract. They didn’t wanna give Reynolds a payday to do literally nothing because he was so expensive. So they forced him into the Hal Jordoan role against Campbells wishes and Reynolds couldn’t get out of it because he was already contractually obligated it was whatever Warner Bros. wanted to do. They wouldn’t execute his contract so he got stuck playing Jordan.
