Hey there guys, this is part 1 of a two part video in which I pitch how to bring Green Lantern to the big screen in a BIG WAY !! In part two I'll be pitching a 6 movie saga so bare with me as it'll take a while to get that video out, thanks for all the support !!
Take all the time you need Mitch. If anything I would love to see your vision come to life with the best quality and best amount of time dedicated to it. I have full faith in your dream, as it is the same dream I hold.
A 6 movie movie saga? That's going to be good, although I think GL could just have a simple trilogy focusing on Hal's friendship with Sinestro and showing how this two partners become rivals, very similar to Anakin and Obi Wan in the SW prequels with a better build-up.
Dude I just finished making a Classic cosplay about green lantern. I mean it was all simple Spandex but still. Lantern is my number 3 super hero next to Superman and iron-man.

One of the reasons why the 2011 movie flopped is they tried too hard to make it into a generic earthbound superhero movie instead of leaning into the sci fi space opera aspect and the wider mythos. If they got someone like James Gunn to do it, I have no doubt he would bring the same zaniness and out there cosmic weirdness he did to Guardians. And Gunn is also really good at the themes of emotional honesty and emotional literacy you touched upon in the video so he’d do great on that front too.
Ryan Reynolds' _GL_ movie is just a remake of _Howard The Duck:_ an unlikable everyman is whisked away across the stars, he fights an alien possessed scientist, then the giant alien itself, science stuff happens, & Tim Robbins is there.
Green Lantern is one of the greatest DC Comics assets. I have a lot of hope for the new show. The idea sounds pretty great so far. I just hope the execution is there. They really just need to look at First Flight, Green Lantern the Animated Series, and parts of the Emerald Knights movie (for ideas of how to tell separate stories about different Green Lanterns)
I believe Green lantern was right on the cusp of becoming DC's next major cash cow but the movie killed that momentum. Green lantern could barely get animated movies after that. They completely lost faith in Green Lantern as a franchise.
@Will N I'm so excited that we are finally going to get a Green Lantern animated film, that too set in the tomorrowverse which is going phenomenal so far Any idea as to when can we expect a trailer ? Also I wonder which gl are they gonna use Hal or John ?
A good way to emphasise what a good Green Lantern film should be is a space opera. Like Star Wars or Star Trek. A science fiction epic set in space on a mass scale, which depicts the vastness of space and all the stars, planets and moons, speculative alien biospheres, exotic alien races and cultures and alien technology.
I really hope HBO's Green Lantern will succeed where the 2011 film failed to give us, and that is a proper epic space opera adventure story inspired by the likes of Lost in Space, Star Trek, Star Wars, heck even Battlestar Galactica.
If the Green Lantern trilogy that you envision were part of the rebooted Justice League universe that you also pitched in the Superman video, then there are plenty of interesting ways to make use of that. Perhaps we make it so that the reason why Hal spends all his time in space instead of directly protecting Earth is that Superman and the others already have that covered and in the first Justice League film, he adopts the role of informant on everything space-related; keeping the team up to date on any cosmic threats that are in route to make their move on Earth. This could even come into play in your second Superman film with Hal being the one to explain Brainiac to Clark in more detail after Kara gives the initial warning. Speaking of, there’s also a lot of potential for crossover on the villain side of things. For example, we could actually namedrop Darkseid in the first Green Lantern film as a space tyrant that the Corp neglects to deal with due to their hindering politics with the Old and New Gods and when Hal helps to defeat him in the third or so Justice League Film, it’s against the Guardians’ wishes. Or, we could do the Legion of Doom for the second Justice League film and have a power struggle between Lex Luthor and Sinestro since they’re both massively authoritarian.
Personally, I think Sinestro should be saved for the third GL film (with the first two bulding up his fall to the dark side). In his place, the second JL movie could have Scarecrow as the main villain, using a yellow ring, hinting that Sinestro is already building his Sinestro corp.
Imagine you have this incredible character with unlimited potential. And his stories being space operas with drama of all emotions, and you put him on Earth. You take away that ethereal concept.
If Thor can work as a movie (and even be successfully integrated into the larger MCU even though he's a god and comes from mythology), then so can Green Lantern and Superman. I mean, the MCU has shown that you can basically make a movie about any type of superhero...but what really matters is if you can make a good movie or not. I honestly think that if WB didn't rush to make a Justice League movie, and took their time developing Superman as a character, then we probably would've gotten a good sequel to MoS.

hiiii I know this is a two-year-old comment but GLTAS is an _incredible_ show, like it really is amazing. the story and characters are PHENOMENALLY written. I just adore it
I want to see a good adaptation of Kyle since he has by far the most interesting constructs (aka he uses the power to the most interesting visual extent) .... but i will be lucky if we get him in the HBO series. So my vote for a good green lantern movie is do what most flash adaptations do and mesh the more interesting lanterns =P
I feel weird to say this but I feel like we rarely get our heroes caring about the villains. I love when the heroes try to change the villains. Also great video😂
Much like Spiderman is dedicated enough to cure the villains in No Way Home, or characters like Flash or Superman help both of their rogue's gallery now and then, treating them as human beings with problems, both outlandish and relatable problems, constantly giving their villains a chance of redemption and a better tomorrow. Just seeing the hero lend helping out to their antagonists and foes they've fought countless times, is something so wholesome and heartwarming to see.
@@milkiassamuel780 absolutely. That was one of my favorite things about no way home was them curing the villains and not just beating them up. Those little conversations after they cure them was great. I wish we got more of this in the superhero movies. This is what makes them heroes not just vigilantes
@@ethanhansen1479 I think my favourite conversation between the villains in No Way Home was betweeen Andrew Garfield Spiderman and Jamie Foxx's Electro, because Max was introduced to us as someone who fought of himself as a nobody and just seeing Andrew Garfields Spiderman cure him and teell him he's not a nobody was really touching to see. Another great example is how Batman chooses to help his villains as a significant number of them have severe mental issues and tragic motivations like Mr Freeze, as Batman empathises with Freeze's mission of vengeance and desperation as Bruce has felt the exact same way many times and choses to help him by funding the treatment to save his wife, and in turn Mr Freeze respects him and also lends a helping hand to him. In addition to that Batman also tries to help villains like Two-Face, who was once Bruce's best friend suffering from severe D.I.D and attempts to help him psychological treatment and therapy, as well as helping out other villains for redemption like Harley Quinn, Clayface (who's now an official member of the Bat-family), Killer Croc, Grundy, Arnold Weskler (The Ventriloquist), Poison Ivy etc...
I feel like a lot of the movies forget or at least it gets brushed under the rug that the original 7 members of the justice league are all supposed on par with each other, they are all supposed to represent the best; batman is the greatest detective a man who can fight with gods, Superman is the "last" of his species, a cosmic wonder of nigh endless raw power, Wonder Woman is a demi God and the best warrior from an island of warrior women, Aquaman is the half breed atleantean king the lord of the seven seas dominion over the ocean and a kingdom, Hal Jordan is the greatest green lantern of all time with the strongest will, Barry Allen is the fastest and essentially is the speed force a multiversal entity to exist throughout all time, and Martian Manhunter is a God essentially whose power go too far to explain and ik that has got lost in the reality of being safe but there is so much potential for such a beautiful saga of media that we're missing out on bcz of the sake of safety and it's a shame, these characters have so much to explore.
I am a person who to this point has only read one Green Lantern comic, and yet I loved it and immediately thought of a hundred ideas of how this character could be in a movie
Green Lantern is not the worst superhero movie, but far from the best either. For me it was just a mildly average and somewhat bland movie, that didn't live up to the potential it had.
The biggest problem with the 2011 Green Lantern film was the fact that it was clearly made by someone who didn’t bother actually picking up Green Lantern comic and giving it an actual in-depth read. Having the movie take place on boring old Earth was such a letdown.
Isn’t it kinda weird that between Across the Spider-Verse and Quantumania, we’ve seen two movies based on Marvel characters that did Green Lantern concepts better than Green Lantern did? And no, I’m not saying Quantumania was particularly great. It was fine at best.
@@kha30s22 I agree. It’s certainly not a fantastic movie, but it comes out ahead of so many comicbook movies, and is still a fun time. I enjoyed Quantumania overall, despite its flaws.
I heard that Ryan Reynolds was planned to come back as Green Lateran in Snyder's Justice League and than WB were like, no no no no no no no no no no no, you can't do that!
I agree with everything you said, and I’ve had one essential thought on the matter: Look for the graphic novel **Green Lantern: Earth One**. Geoff Johns may have had the best interpretation of Hal Jordan and the cosmic scope of the corps, but this book both nailed the look of a Green Lantern movie and compacted it into a tight and compelling story that could translate easily to the silver screen. Somewhere between that and the Johns run is the essential blueprint of the Green Lantern movie we deserve.
Technically Jack Kirby's Fourth World are DC's Star Wars, even to the point that Lucas kinda copied few concepts from Kirby's The Force = The Source. Luke fighting his evil father = Orion fighting his evil father. etc
This is the best video you've made, thank you for this. A lot more people need to know how great Green Lantern is and I hope your video helps people see that.
I remember really liking this movie as a kid when it first came out, but over the years, it’s aged very poorly in my eyes. If there’s a Green Lantern trilogy, I think it’d be interesting if each film were to focus on three or four individual Lanterns (e.g. GL1 is Hal Jordan’s movie (but good), GL2 is John Stewart’s, and GL3 as Kyle Rayner’s and/or Jessica Cruz’s).
I genuinely think about this movie every time somebody talks about bad superhero movies, I haven't forgotten it's stink hahah. "If you think xyz MCU movie is bad, you have to watch Green Lantern and Dare Devil then"
Green lantern like with many scifi or space charactets from both marvel and dc they a whole universe on their own the have compelling characters nuance storylines and incredible worlds to explore. Theyre star wars and star trek on 11 theyre epic but fleshed out well written. The green lantern as a character has some of the best storylines dc has had over the years along with flash and the trinity.
In fearful day, in raging night. With strong hearts full, our souls ignite. When all seems lost in the War of Light, look to the stars. For hope burns bright!
That scene of Hal Jordan reciting the oath to face Parallax would have been different initially. Parallax would attack Hal's family home and try to kill his nephew in the street, only for Green Lantern to arrive at that moment to protect him and then recite the oath, using his nephew as motivation. You can find this unfinished version on TH-cam.
You should create a lot more content like this! It reminds me of B- Masks We are the Fantastic Four videos but more compact. Always love a good video analysis with voices characters
I like John David Washington as John Stewart and I don’t know about Hal Jordan maybe Jaime Dornan or Jack Lowden but I’m looking forward to see who you would pick, your castings our spot on.
I think Jaime Dornam would be a pretty good Hal Jordan, I think he might be my second choice. Personally I would actually cast James Marsden in the role. My other casting choices would include Aston Kutcher, or perhaps Alden Ehrenriech.
@@anubusx They actually casted Wayne T. Carr as John Stewart for Zack Synder's Justice League, and have in fact film a whole scene with his Green Lantern, and was originally going to interact with Bruce at his home instead of Martain Manhunter. Wayne T. Carr actually recently released an image of what his Green could've looked like and he looks so good and I think he could've been a great John Stewart Green Lantern.
I think I'm in minority here who doesn't hate the Reynolds movie. Yes, it's not TDK/Avenger quality film but I don't think is that bad. It was just very average and Ryan Reynolds did a fine job as Hal Jordan (although I do believe there are better casting choices) and I think alot problems of the film could had been fixed in a sequel but it is what it is.
The reason I enjoyed Guardians of the Galaxy so much was that the movie only spent like 5 minutes on Earth at the beginning. Then after that the movie shows us all these planets, aliens, politics, and everything bizarre about our galaxy. Green Lantern should be similar in the sense that this is the DC hero that will show audiences how vast, complex, and bizarre our galaxy is.
Good video. I remember watching the film and felt disappointed with it. I’m grateful for the animated films. I look forward to your next video on Green Lantern because there are so many ideas and potential and yet Warner Bros can’t do it right.
Many reasons. But it is mainly due to the failure of the previous Green Lantern film and how hesitant WB are to reintroduce this character aand their mytho's, as audience perception of the character hadd only begun to decline and thankfully the character has still remained due to the various appearances of Green Lantern in modern media outside of comics.
Batman: Year One Batman: The Long Halloween Catwoman: When In Rome Batman: Dark Victory Robin: Year One Batgirl: Year One Batman: Three Jokers Batman: Arkham Unhinged Batman: Bloodstorm Catwoman: Guardian of Gotham
I can’t believe we have not gotten another live action green lantern movie all because of the mistakes of one movie that just couldn’t stick the landing!
I have actually been working on a Flash film with some casting ideas and a story focusing on Flash starting his journey as the Flash and fighting off The Rogue's (featuring Captain Cold, Mirror Master, Heat Wave and Weather Wizard) for the first time. And then build up to introducing characters like Wally West/Kid Flash, Gorilla Grodd and especially Reverse-Flash.
@@ernestomiloli8414 I agree, while Flashpoint is a great storyline and event comic which does dive into interesting ideas, I do think the comics sole reason is just to simply reboot the continuity and not offer as much range for more story telling possibilities that take place outside of the Flashpoint timeline. I personally would have a trilogy focused on Flash becoming a hero and coming to terms with his inability to save his mother but grow as a hero and mentor to Wally West, while learning more about his future legacy as the Flash and fighting off villains like the Rogue's, Gorilla Grodd and Reverse-Flash.
I have a very educated guess on who's gonna be picked to play Green Lantern and his casting and and I gotta say I definitely see it and I like it Hint: J.A
Honestly, I didn't think it was terrible; I just thought it was mah. I'm disappointed also that they didn't introduce other Green Lanterns. One of the most exciting things about the Green Lantern Corps is the variety of characters they have in it, and you didn't see that in the movie, Owa was pretty much empty. You didn't know the fact that there were other lanterns on the planet till the very end of the film. The video was also right about the point that Green Lantern presents the different Lantern Corp's points of view, and they're not necessarily wrong, to be honest. However, I don't think we could get that level of mature storytelling in the year this video was made, or right now the Hollywood writers just aren't capable of it.
@@barry2349 Agreed. After NWH Garfield proved that, with good script, he can play a charismatic super hero. I can see him playing Hal Jordan or maybe Kyle Rayner. Also, fun fact: Nathan Fillion already played Hal Jordan in many adaptations (i would say he is for Hal Jordan, what Kevin Conry is for Batman and Steven Blum is for Wolverine)
Hmm to be honest I don't think the Green Lantern Movie is really that bad. It had some good things about it, the Sinestro actor did a good job(even though is not in the movie a lot), the idea behind Hall defeating is fear is good and interesting, in my eyes the villain challenge the hero in a character flaw kind way. And the movie doesn't have that much exposition, opposite to what everyone says. it's far from marvelous but it a solid start for me, the only thing I would have change was Ryan as Hall, since the only thing he brought to the character was his funny side, and couldn't put up with the idea of flawed character who needed to overcome is fear the main idea of the film in my view. After Hall is so much more than a funny character.
I would make a first Green Lantern. Forget the origin. Hal just becomesGreen Lantern and you do Training Day movie. Hal Teams up with Sinestro, Kilwog and other Green Lanterns. They go to stop a threat and they do but the real story is learning from Sinstro but see he's corrupt and need to be taken down and the end of a movie is Hal fighing down Sinstro. Just Training Day in space Hal is Ethan Hawk and Sinstro is Denzel Washington. Would be awesome.
i would make the first movie just hal getting the ring going to oa and bing paired with sinestro then going to his planet and make it like training day and end it with sinestro turn and a fight that hal loses but escapes
I didn’t hate it ...really wished it was better....now the animated series was great...please do a video about that show...Green Lantern was done right in the show

hiiii I know this is a two-year-old comment but GLTAS is an _incredible_ show, like it really is amazing. the story and characters are PHENOMENALLY written.
@@milkiassamuel780 I really love how the animated show for the batman showed that side of him. Caring for his villains
Loving the deconstructing explanations and then the creative propouses format.
you should make a Batman or Green Arrow video like this. i am really enjoying this
Emerald knights and first flight are the best green lantern movies
Green lantern green arrow hard traveling heroes is his best story.
Which one did you read ?
Green Lantern is not the worst superhero movie, but far from the best either. For me it was just a mildly average and somewhat bland movie, that didn't live up to the potential it had.
I'd love to see one of these video essays on Green Arrow and see how mich would explain who he is in the comics and what could happen with him.
Quantumania had potential though! There are few problems here and there but it was a fun movie.
I agree with everything you said, and I’ve had one essential thought on the matter:
Look for the graphic novel **Green Lantern: Earth One**.
If I was to make a Green Lantern movie, I'd want Geoff Johns to write it and have Glen Powell from Top Gun Maverick as Hal Jordan.
The Earth 1 OGN series was a great intro. One part Indiana Jones, one part retrofuturism. Should be the basis for a film.
Have you ever considered a casting for Teen Titans.
FINALLY someone points out Hector's random ass screaming.
I really hope Carol Ferris is in the new Green Lantern project and that we see her as Star Sapphire.
If You want to watch good Green Lantern movie i highly recommend Green Lantern first flight and emerald Knights as well the animated series
The equivalent of DC's Star Wars and yet DC made one of the most boring superhero movies ever made. C'mon guys 🤦♂️
Technically Jack Kirby's Fourth World are DC's Star Wars, even to the point that Lucas kinda copied few concepts from Kirby's
The Force = The Source.
Luke fighting his evil father = Orion fighting his evil father.
etc
@@uncannydcmarvelous5732 true
Disney has now made Star Wars boring.

This is the best video you've made, thank you for this. A lot more people need to know how great Green Lantern is and I hope your video helps people see that.
OMG!!! I asked for this in the comments of your How to make a good superman movie video... Thanks 🙏
I think Sam Worthington would make a good Hal Jordan. He seemed like the hal Jordan type as Jake sully in the movie Avatar.
Personally I don’t see that at all
James Marsden would be a better option
Zack Snyder already cast John Stewart, even though it is a deleted scene.
Who played him.
Jensen Ackles, Michael J. White?, Seann William Scott, and idk for Kyle Rayner
All 4 corpsmen should be in the next green lantern movie
Looking back now with some shots we see of Blue beetle, practical GL Suit can be done
Good video. I remember watching the film and felt disappointed with it. I’m grateful for the animated films. I look forward to your next video on Green Lantern because there are so many ideas and potential and yet Warner Bros can’t do it right.
I love this series u r making. Keep doing it.
*HOLY SHIT THANK YOU I WAS BEGGING FOR A VIDEO LIKE THIS*
Please pitch a college era Spider Man movie or series you're so good at it
5:13 I hear that GLTAS audio clip >:) I love that show so much
The best GL story is Green Lantern, Green Arrow hard traveling heroes. This story is unreal.
Good question why haven’t we gotten a green lantern movie.
Batman: Year One
Batman: The Long Halloween
Catwoman: When In Rome
Batman: Dark Victory

Batman: Three Jokers
Batman: Arkham Unhinged
Batman: Bloodstorm
Catwoman: Guardian of Gotham
Wanna See Sinestro on the big screen again
You should do a similar video to this and the Superman one for Batman or Spider-Man
The simple answer is
Be owned by Warner Brothers
I like the movie, maybe is wasn't the greatest but introduced us in the green lantern story.the effects are amazing. The animate is good to.
I can’t believe we have not gotten another live action green lantern movie all because of the mistakes of one movie that just couldn’t stick the landing!
Do how to make a good flash movie after green lantern.
It would be nice to have a Flash Movie that does not have anything to do with Flashpoint
@@milkiassamuel780 And other villain's too and they should all be treated like threats,

Yes that is Taika Waititi he played as Thomas Kalmaku
I hope we see the Flash and Green Lantern friendship from the comics.
Yo that is shout using the Manhunters as the villain of the Green Lantern project. Watch the series to see why.
Aquaman reboot please
According to rumours tom cruise as been casted as Hal jordan
I hope this doesn't happen. For Hal Jordan they need to go with a better actor like Nathan Fillion, Andrew Garfield or Matt Bomer
@@alexandrefrauches132 ohh dam Andrew Garfield would be phenomenal, nathan Fillion aswell,I can see matt bomer aswell
I am a marvel fan but, this video makes me want to like Green Lantern!
Thank you ❤❤
Green lantern deserves a movie but I'm down to see a TV show
Fantastic
i would make the first movie just hal getting the ring going to oa and bing paired with sinestro then going to his planet and make it like training day and end it with sinestro turn and a fight that hal loses but escapes
I enjoyed 2011 Green Lantern!
