    Very informative video. We just crossed them in May 23. We had floods in Eyre Creek but these clay pans were less muddy.

      My pleasure! if you take your time you have fun if you rush you will miss the fun of the trip, the country is what you come to see and every dune there a new place to see.

    I commonly take 100+ tent pegs in case I need to recover..
    Always enjoy watching these vids. Learnt the lesson of staying in tracks at Barmah state forest once...very sticky horrible stuff...out with the family half the night.

      Hi Phil yep it's all way greener over the hill (but it can be a long night) the first time I went across a clay pan I learn with 2 days and lots of digging the best thing was I was only 20y, now I think it take me a week or more to get out hi hi

    I've just subbed to your channel as I have learned 2 great tips when crossing the Simpson within the first 5 minutes of this video. Most talk about the dunes only. Looking forward to watching your others vids. Be seeing mate.

      Hi the big problem with most 4x4ers they think that the sand dunes are it but there a lit more on flat ground or rocks for me it's all of the trip, I had not been back to the Simpson for some 30 years when I did this trip and I found that it's not that place away from every one that it was once was. I do like driving on the clay pans they can be fun all you do is try to keep moving and stay in the old tyre marks and don't lift the foot as long as your still going the way you want it's like racing a car.

    Hey Jim, just came across this - great. love the overlays and absolutely. 5 mins of idiocy equates to decades of damage for the sake of a donut - or a figure of 8 on a salt lake. Now that and getting peeps to run the correct tyre pressures would give the Simmo longevity for the future, but the rate we "aussies" are going it's looking pretty short term.... it's a crying shame

    • @JimMcNabb44
      @JimMcNabb44  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Dan yes it's a crying shame that just one can still it up for us all. Yep tyre pressure are very important and with each 4x4 and load will be a bit different and it's a bit of trial to work them out but once you got them the sand dunes are easy and lots of fun

    Some good tips here, thanks mate.

      Hi Greg over many years I found that if you are still moving in the general way you want to go just keep the power on and bring it back slowly and you will make it most times, but if you stop don't try to drive out you will only get stuck better, get a tow or winch your self out, I have a truck chain and will lay it out on the ground and put 50 to 100 tent pegs in it and winch my self out it works but it is a lot of work, when we use the winch cable to tow on we leave at least 4 to 5 turns on the drum, and we do not sanch on the drum.

    I grew up, live and work in the bush and it takes years to learn that you need to stick with the main wheel tracks. Luckily for me though it doesn't rain much.....

    • @JimMcNabb44
      @JimMcNabb44  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Ade yes stick to the track when crossing claypans, and you can talk to the new bees all you like, on that trip Roger soon found out why I was telling him to stay on my tracks, I can say for the rest of that trip he stuck to where I told him to drive.

      Yep as long as your still going in somewhat where you want them keep going and don't lift the foot

    Hi Jim. What is the best UHF CB channel to be on out there please mate?

    • @JimMcNabb44
      @JimMcNabb44  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ross each track users a diferent channel most of the time they have a post with the channel to use on that track, when I'm in the sand dune country I call east bound etc on the top of each dune, in the Simpson now you must have a sand flag but I use one every in sand dune country.

    i thought that was a no no to snatch using a winch?

    • @JimMcNabb44
      @JimMcNabb44  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi we did not snatch I towed him out, in the old days with steel cable you would never do this because the wire would get stuck and you had to find a tree to drive backwards to get it back out, but with this new rope you can do it, but I would not snatch on the winch drum

    Why not just go wide of the wear and tear?

    • @JimMcNabb44
      @JimMcNabb44  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi If you go wide you will get stuck when the wheel tracks are it's harder
