    Mate I love the channel but I reckon you guys f-up pretty bad on this one. You must've known this weather was coming in and the risks it not only posed to you but to your potential rescuers if there was an emergency. Also the whole sh#t show with Torbs was because he lost control while on his UHF while driving. Pretty dumb. You guys got lucky.

    pretty much exactly what not to do, if it rains in the Desert find yourself a good camp site on sand and wait till it dries out. Driving in this conditions is just stupid and stuffed the tracks for everyone else. Going out there when you know it's going to be wet is even less sensible.

    Torbs lost the concentration when he received the call from Ronny at 19:00. The worst recovery I've seen is in GrizzlynBear overland where their Defender 130 got sunk to the chassis on a frozen river in Mongolia at night. Imagine recovering a vehicle in icy river. If left overnight, water will freeze trapping the frame to ice making recovery impossible until ice melts: No big truck can reach his location.

    • @KarlEller
      @KarlEller ปีที่แล้ว +8

    You’ve got 3 days extra food but instead of waiting a day maybe two for tracks to dry Ronnie you’ve driven them. Sensational. You even talk about after a couple of hours how the track was drying. Out west NSW they close dirt roads in heavy rains for a reason. So idiots don’t go destroying the track. You are rôle modelling the wrong behaviour national parks not to mention torbs could’ve rolled over and you’d be setting off your epirb and dealing with a potential fatality. If there was more rain coming in then it might be a different story but this video seems to be a grab for likes. Talk to me if I’ve got it wrong. Keen to see our tracks stay open and people enjoy them safely.

    Hey Ronnie, that was a poor call by you to send your camera car and Torben across that flooded salt lake ,considering your experience, the conditions ,and the fact you guys had already spent a couple of days across the Simmo in the wet.I don't really understand the need for so much speed trying to make the crossing , especially in the tracks of the camera car, there were clear tracks either side of Torbens track ,it was nearly a catastrophe. Not sure if I look at your video as foolhardy trying to push the envelope for video content ,especially when you drive the edge of the lake with ease. Is Torben still part of your crew after that episode???

    There's a reason for the northern bypass...... but you know that now :) Just saying, if you found the lake crossing bad, you've got some surprises coming on the rest of the QAA - probably much worse than the lake. You also, of course, already know that. We crossed in September, had more than 25mm rain overnight at Mt Dare which made the run to Purni bore look like your Hay River road, but with deeper mud. Once we crossed Lake Poeppel easily we figured the worst was over, but no. Anyway after Big Red it was easy, haha.

I can only assume you had somewhere you really had to be and that’s why you didn’t just stay where you were for a week or so when it first started raining. Just as quickly as it gets boggy it will dry out, without the risk of damaging equipment or people and destroying the tracks. No were near as much fun though I must admit.
