With recently updated calibration, this method won’t work on some trucks. But it’s always worth a try😉

Dude you do realize that its the ECU and special software to do that! By default that is the shutdown. The reason you can do it is because your company has it disabled in the ECU on high idle! It does not matter how much I idle mine it turns off in 400 seconds!
So to stop it from turning off I just don’t set my brakes. On super cold days here in chicago I’ll use two wheel chocks and if I have a trailer i use the trailer brakes! Sorry but I’m tired of the EPA thinking it’s ok for a driver to be in a truck with no air/heat but it’s literally against the law to do it to a dog! And there it is the Feds care more about Dogs than truck drivers! The ASPCA/PITA cares more about Dogs as Animals than Humans! Don’t leave that dog in there but go right ahead and do it to that truck driver!
I do realize I own a shop:) with “don”t set brakes” it also doesn’t work with every truck. Whatever I’m showing here would work in 70% of those trucks and safer then not setting brakes.
Release the tractors brakes and it does the same thing but doesn’t waste fuel. Make sure you are hooked up to a trailer obviously.

Doesn't work when you have optimized idel. Truck ecu bypasses the rpm and holding down the pedal. Can even be in gear with breaks in and still will try to do a no idel shutdown. Say thank you to California emissions that's why it happens 😢
My company’s trucks can’t do this, but they are set to not shutdown when it’s below 32

Some companies lock these functions out.
Then you can take it to the shop and shop can remove it. They can’t let you freeze in the truck.
It’s not F working. I tried so many options, it’s shutting down in less then an hour. I’m waking up soaking F wet and not getting good sleep. F this freighliner. My Volvo on repair that’s why I drive this BS for 3 weeks. 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

Soaking wet? Sounds like you have a bigger problem then idle shutdown

Set your trailer brakes and do not set the truck brakes. This should allow you to idle. If it’s cold enough where you are concerned about your trailer brakes freezing, then leave air supplied to trailer brakes for 15 min after parking to allow the brakes to cool before setting.

When your apu goes out and you don’t feel like going to the shop in the middle of a load on the road. They can fix that shit on my home time. I’m dealing with it now
Its in the ECU. You would need to pay a qualified mechanic to override it
If it’s not password protected or locked then you can turn it off with DiagnosticLink

Like I mentioned before it doesn’t work for everybody. New update on trucks doesn’t let you do it anymore. But for some trucks it still works.
This is not working for me. I have a brand new 26 foot box truck I have the same dash that he’s using
Brand new trucks have different calibration(updated software) there is no way to bypass it like that, have to connect computer and reprogram it. So best solution would be dealer.

If you have recent update, it won’t work no matter what you do. Have to use optimized idle only
Try lowering the landing gear if you're attached to a trailer and your tires are against a curb, then push the parking brake in, then engine idle adjust.

Newer trucks or updated from dealer have different calibration. Need to reprogram. Try to use optimized idle instead. Inconvenient but it’ll keep you warm. Or if you have bunk heater it’ll be even better. Good luck ;)
