It’s always so heartwarming to find someone who genuinely and selflessly wants others to succeed. You are sharing with anonymous sources, expecting nothing in return. That is so rare. @@erranw Most mushrooms have cell walls that are just sort of hard for your body to break down raw, cooking them helps break the cells down so that your body can get at the goodies inside much easier. That's what he means by "they provide no nutritional value when raw" - your body just has to work too hard to get at the nutritional bits when they're uncooked to provide much net benefit. Also, depending on the strain, mushrooms can have some chemicals in them that aren't super great for your body. Of course, some strains are straight up lethal if unprepared, but most edible mushrooms, when raw, fall more into the category of "hard on your liver/ kidneys/ other organs to process" and/ or slightly carcinogenic. Cooking them pretty well destroys the chemicals that cause this issue. Paul Stamets talks about it on his interview on the Joe Rogan show, and he's written about it in his books, too.

As a Horticulturalist.. and a mycologist... I want to say thank you sir for doing these videos. Amazing info. You're one top notch grower. Reading all the comments below am disappointed once again by dumb ass humans. Horticulture is more than growing weed. Mycology is more than just trippy mushrooms. We've all moved on from 6th grade. Catch up guys.

Very interesting to see how culture has changed, 25-30 years ago I was growing them on oak logs in northern Pennsylvania, I did it as part of a forestry management process to use cull logs to produce a product, a lot of work with logs, drills, and inoculation pumps. I had a line of restaurants that took everything I could grow. Back in the day ..
