  • Pleurotus is a genus of gilled mushrooms which includes one of the most widely eaten mushrooms, P. ostreatus. Species of Pleurotus may be called oyster, abalone, or tree mushrooms, and are some of the most commonly cultivated edible mushrooms in the world. Pleurotus fungi have been used in mycoremediation of pollutants such as petroleum and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.

Watching your commercial scale growing and methods is interesting. Your knowledge is great. I purchased a small 100gram bag of Blue Oysters mycelium growing on Millet. I put some of the mycelium in bigger bags on some pasteurised straw, some in a clear drink cup with a domed lid. A put some in a jar of sterile water with Dextrose added, some brown rice sterilised jars and finally on some of my first agar plates. I am amazed that in only 5 days I have strong growth. The agar spot has cover half the plate and the Grain jars are already half colonised. The mycelium is climbing from the small millet grains along the straw so fast. I am currently using a heat mat in a metal locker on the shelf below. I will have to put to some tubs to fruit them. I saw a video where they put an aquarium pump with the air stone into a jar of water to create fresh air flow and high humidity. This was all placed in a large tub with a lid and a few filter holes to prevent contamination. I should get enough for home production I hope.
