    I haven't seen anyone else mention this, but Trials Rising actually has analogue trigger support via the Gamecube adaptor. Analogue acceleration is fundamental to the Trials series, so I really respect the developers for finding a workaround to support it on a Switch port.

      Yup, and Grid Autosport.
      A shame more racing games haven't adopted this option, especially for WRC, MotoGP, V-Rally, and especially absolute driff. Right thumbstick throttle can only take you so far, and even then some sim games don't even have this option. Its a shame that they haven't allowed 3rd party analogue trigger controllers to just work as intended.

    The gamecube controller layout has always been my favorite style since its release. So literally, all I wanted from these were for them to be as good as or better than my Binbok joycon, with the programmable back buttons, and have the layout of the gamecube controller which it seems to have nailed for the most part. I wish they still would have had the analog triggers so i could map it to my PC as well for games that use the function, but I guess I'll have to keep waiting for that.

    • @CarrotsNotCake

      They're certainly the best JoyCons so /far/, but I do hope that that doesn't remain the case because there's a lot to improve on with these. Comparing button to button, it's just so far from GameCube controllers. Easy to take apart and mod, though! So that's nice. I was able to put tap on the inside to block the facebutton LEDs... then I learned that they can be turned off. lool. The trigger switches should be easy to replace. The D-Pad is great. But, yeah, there are loads of complaints about them that make it clear that there's a market for a better set of GameCube JoyCons. I'm hoping that Nyxi sees all of the comments & videos like mine, and this one & @VKsChannel talking about the things that were odd to have changed, like the C stick, the face button dimensions. Like... to be so close to the original shows that they want to appeal to the nostalgia, but they fell short.

      The gamecube controller is great for games that are built around it. However, a lot of multi-plat games from the 6th gen play weird as hell on the layout. My goto example is always Soul Calibur 2 and CvS2 having weird as hell layouts because of the unique nature of the GC pad.
      It's definitely a controller designed around human factors. I love how it feels and the ideas behind it, but since it's not an industry standard it's very awkward with most non-GC games. Also, the d-pad is literally the worst d-pad ever. Like, even the 360's is better.

      OEM JoyCons are trash. I get that they were made for portability, but like my eight year old nephew thinks they're too small, and his hands are like... you know, an eight year old's hands. It does take a little getting used to at first if you have a lot of hours in another game with the standard joy-con layout, but after getting used to it, its great. The only downside is that after a while, the small locking mechanism seems to get a bit loose and sometimes is able to slide off without having to hold the release button on the back. Here are a couple of thing that took me a bit to figure out. You can adjust the rumble in the controllers individually, hold down the turbo button and press up or down on the left or right joystick to adjust the rumble higher or lower all the way to off. Also you can turn the button lights for the right Joycon off, hold the turbo button and click the right joystick down do this multiple times and the lights turn off and on. It may do nothing for a couple of clicks. I think these have the same programming as their RGB light-up controllers, so as your are cycling thru the program to change the colors (that this doesn't have so it just stays lit) you eventually hit the press to turn the lights off. You are right the light up buttons do make the right Joycon battery die quick. I wanna say using it wirelessly while the system is docked, when the left JC would get to maybe 75% the right JC would probably be between 40 or 50% battery left, so far turning the lights off helps a bit.

    I think your love of stickless fighterpads and waiting 7 years soured this for you. I use a gamecube style controller for everything, Smash, Mariokart and splatoon. This has tripled the time I play in handheld mode from 2% to 6%. My only complaint is why it took so long.

    I think all the points you bring up are useful to hear. I bought it, i'm satisfied with it, but I also use the PowerA controllers for almost all of my gaming when I'm at home, I find that they have just a very minor delay from the pro controller, and this controller. So I see it as a minor upgrade to my usual setup. It's not something that most people will want, the diehard smash players will use a normal gamecube controller, the macro is mostly useless, the novelty of it is a big selling point for it. But I am completely satisfied with my purchase of it.

    I use a Gamecube style controller for my PC since I legitimately think that the Gamecube style layout is the best for most type of games. The NYXI Gamecube Style looked like it had everything I wanted from a Gamecube Style controller. From the way the triggers are shaped, to the back buttons, to even the ability to change the gates of the sticks (though I'd likely keep it as the Gamecube style one). Sadly yeah, most of the issues I hear about it made me not want it too much. From the back buttons being kinda useless for my use case, from some people saying the gates are a little loose to yeah, being a little too large. It's a shame really since it was almost my dream controller but alas.

      Yes, it is a total shame. It's so close, but the minor changes make a huge difference. I hope that they revise it in the future. I like mine enough to keep it despite my many grievances. It's a fun nostalgic throwback. For that, it's worth the money. And it makes playing Pikmin even more enjoyable!
      If you want another take on this controller, checkout my comparison video and my teardown video. The button dimensions are some of the more obvious differences.

    You can have a Power-A avengers controller hooked up to a mayflash magic-NS and play games very similar feel to a wavebird. All you’d have to do is open er’ up and reroute the trigger to a full trigger ‘click’ and then it would be the most comfortable silk-like rubberish material wavebird replacement. The Power A even has a quick dis-connect so you can zip tie the portion that stays attached to the dock and yank the cord off without dragging your system off your shelf!

    I love them i use them in every game i can, my complaint is that it is massive much bigger then a xbox controller and the holder grip needs to be skinnier, wish it didnt have the turbo and macro

    Also, this recent hall effect situation is very interesting to me. I am strict on clickiness, but even more strict on joysticks themselves. Due to this, I have a sort of.. "enhanced sensitivity" when it comes to how well a joystick functions. I've bought 3 hall effect controllers overtime, and also modded my own Joy Cons with Gullikit's DIY. I noticed the gap in quality immediately.
    Sidenote, it's a good thing I DID mod them though, because I actually developed stick drift in the right Joy Con while waiting for them to deliver, and they're the limited edition Smash Bros ones.

    • @CarrotsNotCake
      @CarrotsNotCake ปีที่แล้ว

      Whoa, so you're saying that you prefer the feel of OEM analog? I haven't used GK's, so I d'know if I like them.
      I've been saying for weeks now that it's a quality thing. And there can be shitty hall effect sticks just like there are shitty analog ones. I have no faith in hall effect sticks being quality.

    • @_WiZ420
      @_WiZ420 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CarrotsNotCake I can definitely see that. It might very well be a mix of both. The reason I’m supporting it so much is because of my own experience with both, but I also think they can have a bright future. If enough time passes where we are experimenting with both, then there is bound to be a new type of joystick that takes the best of both worlds.
      Granted, we have to take into account that not nearly as many companies focus on hall effect currently. The ones we see could very well just be ones who have spent a lot of time behind the scenes, whereas the original already has a “gold standard” and grow complacent. That’s only an idea though, because no one besides the people at work truly know.

    It solves the flipped button layout for handheld. Main problem with the switch is they followed the perfect Xbox controller. The switch pro controller has a 10 dollar button pack you can buy to put the buttons in the right spot then reprogram them via software. But for 6 years handheld mode has been pretty much unplayable without pressing wrong buttons like hitting b when it should be an a button at the bottom. This gives a different layout for handheld gaming , which older folks will be familiar with from the GameCubes days.

    You watch your mouth about the Retroflag!
    I love using that when I'm "on the go", and I also bought the NYXI wizard too. I use it as a controller, *rarely* in split mode. It's great for MK8, SSB, all games where you would want to use a GC controller. I've used them in split mode, but they don't feel good in split mode, they have slop when connected that way. I plan on replacing the C-stick with a real C-Stick since NYXI designed the sticks to come off and made the rings around them swappable for notched or smooth depending on your preference.

    This has been literally only made for me. I have the hori split pads and they're ok, but my hands hurt after a while cause there's a button falling off the side of the controller. Also not /super/ grippy and there's no wireless. This controller is literally all I've ever wanted.

    Got mine a while back. I like it but I do have some problems with it not mentioned here.
    First thing I noticed was the grip was different. The handles are thinner than the actual GameCube and doesn't fit as well on the hand, despite the controller being bigger.
    Secondly playing Smash was fine but I couldn't play Mario Kart Deluxe 8 with it. There was an insane amount of lag from the wireless controller. I couldn't jump and drift when I needed too, most cases it didn't register the button o was pressing. I ended up plugging in an actual GameCube controller as it was really messing up my game.
    Metroid however worked awesome while playing in handheld. That's all I have to share.

    Those powera GameCube controllers are horrendous. We ran a switch group at work and got four of them for Smash. We had to replace every controller through PowerA support. 1 for no longer pairing and the other 3 for faulty sticks. They're support was pretty fast with replacements and easy to work with so there was that at least.

You can choose the colour you want and it just looks awesome. I was so happy that they ship these to germany. They werent cheap either but it was worth it! I'm glad to know they have motion controls and rumble but just in case, do they have Gyro? Zelda is my most played game and I don't want to loose the gyro aiming for the arrows, but a controller that works as a joycons and a normal controller while being less annoying with the drift problems sounds perfect!
