A younger Geoff with his short hair was adorkable. A more mature Geoff with a longer mane is a purdy boi, even when he's playing a villain or a demon. I have to say, though, if I heard that note/sound coming toward me on a dark night, I'd think Gabriel was announcing judgment day, and I would not stick around.
With all due respect to Van Canto, this is the most metal acapella song you will ever hear. As is always the case with Voiceplay, everyone knocks it out of the park, but Eli and Geoff are unreal. Geoff's voice has so much menace and Eli sounds ready to rip someone's head off. Never heard him that intense! Valhallacapella perhaps?
You know what the funny thing is with voiceplay? With some vocal groups there is like this guy is fenomenal, that woman is also very good and the rest is okay. Not with voiceplay. Every. single. one. of you guys are fenomenal.
Pentatonix and Home Free are the other two groups that fit that description. I don't know why we have so much talent these days - maybe as a backlash from all the boy bands and autotune?
His voice makes my heart flutter. Lol Just sexy and so DEEP and vibrating! Loved the Monster Mash, with his Wife and him.....dancing. 😊👍 The whole group puts on a Show, sings beautifully and......are So Talented!

Thank you VoicePlay, for this wonderful work of art. Now, let's all raise a tankard of mead, and proceed to battle where we will hew many foe men! 😁💕
I swear I'm 1 million of the 4.2+ million views. Bass hits you in the soul. Geoff hits your ancestors in the soul. There are Vikings in my family tree who just stood up in Valhalla and grabbed their axe.
Welcome to the fandom! That guy is Eli (pronounced EL-ee, rather than EE-lie), and yeah, he's an amazing tenor. Got that great rock vibe to his voice, and can do runs like nobody's business.
My 1 year old has to listen to this song or he will not go to sleep. He refuses to listen to anything except Voiceplay. He's their biggest little fan 🥰
Fantastic! I feel like Voiceplay saw the sea shanty trend and said to each other, "We can do better". Layne smashed it! Geoff killed it! Eli... wait... everyone in the band did superbly in this cover! Why is it always Layne's arrangements which end up trying to crack the Earth's crust with Geoff's subharmonics? Is there a rivalry with the silly stuff they get each other to do or something?
I thought I clicked on Voiceplays new video and not on The Vikings?! But for real! What on Earth?!! That was so amazing, I think my jaw dropped to the floor
I love when we get to hear Layne sing. I mean he's an amazing vocal percussionist and blows my mind regularly. It's just really nice to hear his singing voice which is very pleasant too.
They do look just like that on first glance, yeah. But on a second thought, and as someone used to high fantasy games... What if Eli is actually a sorcerer who just decided to summon a demon for the raid? You know the situation, the demon seems to be the bigger threat and naturally draws attention... but its really the sorcerer that will wreck you. ;)
@@Regina316 And Eli do be wrecking - everything I considered good music before I heard him sing. It's not quite a party without the rest of Voice Play in there too though. :D
I don't know what's best - the vocals, the costumes, the makeup, or the sets. Maybe all? I commented on the patron release, but hearing this again, I had to come back and talk about how much I love it. I did not know the song and wasn't sure what to think before seeing it. Now I just keep rewatching. It is so satisfying. I love the dark tone, the attitude, and the haunting mood. Geoff looks like a forge god, Layne and J like berserkers, and Eli like a necromancer. They were all so good, but I have to comment on Eli's rock voice. When it comes out, it blows me away every time! Geoff, of course, is a wonder. J is so smooth. Jose fit in very well with everyone's skill and sound. And Layne killed the percussion, which is not a surprise. What was a spectacular surprise was his solo singing! I am always a fan when he sings. These guys are such a gift! 💜
I love how everyone has their theme in costumes and backgrounds here. Geoff's chilling in the forge, creating swords and axes and earthquakes. Layne and J look like fierce warriors ready to attack. Eli and Jose like the wise strategists, making the battle plans! Didn't knew the world needed Viking VoicePlay, but we absolutely did. Those hamonies... such a perfect arrangement by Layne and the make-up looks epic. Also Eli kinda reminded me of Floki from Vikings, great work on those backgrounds btw, man! Thanks to you guys for always brightening my days with music, it's so wholesome for the heart and soul.
I am in love with *Voice Play!* I am an Apache woman with black hair. Hearing this gorgeous rendition of "My Mother Told Me" inspires me to tell my spiritual sons and daughters to always *fight for what is right!* And oooooh, that BASS ❤️!
okay but for real though, Eli looks so perfectly natural in this, I wouldn't even question things if he rowed ashore in England, just be like "oh hey man, you're a bit late, the others came a few hundred years ago. not to worry though, you seem like you'll be alright raiding a church hamlet all by yourself"
Yes, I agree! I’ve always thought that he looks like such a genuinely nice man, but this video makes me question that impression. He looks positively evil in this one!

Yes, there are excellent a capella groups out there, BUT there are two that pierce my heat like sharpened vocal arrows of fire. There is, in *my* experience, no competition in my heart for the two. They touch me equally. *I love you guys with all my Apache soul.* If I could, I would adopt you all as my sons, *All 5 of you!* Thank you *VoicePlay.* ROCK ON!
Amazing arrangement and even more amazing execution. I really loved the round/echo effect in the middle where they're all singing different lines or the same lines at slightly staggered tempos. Great to hear Layne in the harmonies this time, and then the way the beat dropped. Loved the elbow crash. I really loved Eli and J's harmonies and leads in this too. Geoff was the ocean and the oars, J and Eli the winds and the wave crests, Jose was the dragon figurehead cutting through it all and Layne was the steersman, the rowing drums, and the sounds of the rigging. The sheer theatricality was amazing too. Beautiful.
Geoff's Subhermonic's is the PERFECT sound for like the viking age. But it's also amazing to hear Lane sing for a bit, also Eli looks super mad in the video due to the makeup and I Love it so much. Keep it up you guys, also do a completion of Daft punk please
I...I...WOW. I’m a little scared. This was absolutely glorious! Everyone is a beast in this! Geoff made my jaw drop like the first time. Layne was killing it! J took my breath away. From bass to countertenor, but even countertenor is super masculine here.
Am I the only one who enjoys this in part because it's one of the rare times Laine actually sings? XD
Yes!!!!
Who is laine again?
@@jup1ther27 Layne is the beatboxer of VoicePlay, he's on the rightmost side of the video
No, you're not the only one! I often wrote that I would love that Layne had more singing parts and I love this song so much 😍 (proof, I'm coming back to the vid months after it was released Ahah)
Geoff will probably create an earthquake in this video. Can't wait
Probably=Hang on for dear life LOL
You were right
@@KingFamilyReacts can't wait to see your reaction on this
@@KingFamilyReacts I'm gonna miss the premiere...stupid work. But it's the first thing I'm doing after.
Replying so I can hear your reaction to this.
When you think the enemy is approaching, but it's just Geoff being a warhorn.
A younger Geoff with his short hair was adorkable. A more mature Geoff with a longer mane is a purdy boi, even when he's playing a villain or a demon. I have to say, though, if I heard that note/sound coming toward me on a dark night, I'd think Gabriel was announcing judgment day, and I would not stick around.
i’ve never seen a more relatable comment 😂
I somehow can't stop staring at his viking hair, waving in the wind, in this video. 😂
Not sure if you meant to type "adorkable" or "adorable", but I agree to both, lol.
I see a t shirt in the making!
Eli has Mortal Kombat “Your soul is mine” vibes
You know what the funny thing is with voiceplay? With some vocal groups there is like this guy is fenomenal, that woman is also very good and the rest is okay. Not with voiceplay. Every. single. one. of you guys are fenomenal.
I totally and completely agree!
Pentatonix and Home Free are the other two groups that fit that description. I don't know why we have so much talent these days - maybe as a backlash from all the boy bands and autotune?
I was not going to mention them in here, but yes, thats very much the case.
@@gerritroseboom8621 You can mention them - they're all supportive of each other.
I know they didn’t win Sing Off but I bet now they’d beat home free and probably PTX too. No disrespect to them though.
I've never heard a war-horn sound so amazing, let alone from a human voice. Chills
Is no one going to talk about how amazing Eli sounds in this song
Yes, he does ! 🤩 And so intense, both in vocals and acting !
He looks like Floki

Geoff is so unfair. Not only is his voice incredible but he's also gorgeous?! Save some good genes for the rest of us 😂 (jk, you're all gorgeous)
AND he’s super nice and funny 🙄 greedy much?
Agreed! He has it all
Simp. (I had to)
His voice makes my heart flutter. Lol
Just sexy and so DEEP and vibrating!
Loved the Monster Mash, with his Wife and him.....dancing. 😊👍 The whole group puts on a Show, sings beautifully and......are So Talented!
I am fully convinced Geoff Castellucci is one of those people put on Earth to keep the rest of us humble. There's no other explanation for him.
I am so late to the Voiceplay party... I arrived a whole three days ago....not a single hour has been wasted since. I am totally obsessed. If you ever get over to the UK on tour, I'm there! My soul is soothed and stirred all at the same time. Bliss.
I'm sure you probably have, but if you haven't, check out Home Free and Pentatonix, too. These three groups are kind of the Holy Trinity of a capella. They also have the Holy Trinity of bass singers. (At least before Avi left PTX.)
Welcome to our squad ❤️
@@anniedownum451 oh, I'm totally addicted to Home Free too, they are incredible. As yet, for some reason that I can't explain, Pentatonix have not grabbed me. I love Avi, but that's as far as I've got so far. I'm going to keep listening though! ❤️

@@buildjakapanuk You read my mind about them! I agree with you. Try Natural Disaster and Hallelujah if you want some of the better ones from PTX. With Home Free... you can't go wrong. Happy listening!
Eli is such a power house! Dude is so freaking amazing. And seems so, so humble about it. I’m so struck every time he lets gets some good powerful solos.
And not only can he sing incredibly well, but that costume is amazing! I LOVE the tattoos on his head and face!!! He looks so majestic :)
He is sincerely that humble and awesome irl. An incredibly good and kind and talented human!
From 2:14-2:20 is legit my favorite moment of this song. I can do ANYTHING in those six seconds. The way he just SENDS it with so much power, incredible!
I love VOICE play GUYS Shannon O'Brien
I Love Eli
Eli goes so hard in every video, I love them all so much.
Come for the bass. Stay, because they are all just so damn good.
I don't know how y'all manage to constantly outdo yourselves, but you've done it again! I love everything about this, from the intricate, incredible harmonies, to the powerful percussion, to the costumes and makeup, to the gorgeous backgrounds. You all look very intimidating, but Eli managed to look downright terrifying with those facial expressions! 😮 Jose was a wonderful addition and blended so well with all of you. Thank you VoicePlay, for this wonderful work of art. Now, let's all raise a tankard of mead, and proceed to battle where we will hew many foe men! 😁💕
Geoff would be a terrifying Viking with his voice alone-
What an amazing interpretation! I love it.❤ Masterful!
You know when Voiceplay dresses like this in any video, its going to be a absolute banger.
Geoff: *absolutely SENDS it*
Eli: “Hold my mead...”
Am i the only one that has this on repeat or???
Loving the wind action on Geoffs hair

I swear I'm 1 million of the 4.2+ million views. Bass hits you in the soul. Geoff hits your ancestors in the soul. There are Vikings in my family tree who just stood up in Valhalla and grabbed their axe.
Eli looks both badass and terrifying at the same time.
I agree! It's a "last face you're ever gonna see" type of look!
I know!
Eli reminds me of Floki from Vikings tv series.
Eli looks like the type of assassin that says oh do it quietly? Guns!
I like how all of them have aesthetic backgrounds and then there’s just Geoff with Mordor.
im new here so im sorry for not knowing their names but when the bald man reached those high notes, i felt shivers in the back of my neck SO GOOD
Welcome to the fandom! That guy is Eli (pronounced EL-ee, rather than EE-lie), and yeah, he's an amazing tenor. Got that great rock vibe to his voice, and can do runs like nobody's business.
GEOFF CASTELLUCCI Eil J None Eril Tony Layne STEIN
My 1 year old has to listen to this song or he will not go to sleep. He refuses to listen to anything except Voiceplay. He's their biggest little fan 🥰
Aw, that is cute.
So cute !
woah.. that low bass gives me goosebumps...
"sail to distant shoooreess". my soul was taken under ground
My Mother told me . . .someday I would hear . . . a bass voice to die for. Mom, I think I found him.
This is one of my favourites they've ever done
And this is just off of trailer alone lol!!!😂😂😂😂
@@the_gaminghyena it's been on patreon for a while to be fair, but honestly yeah, just the trailer alone is enough 🤣
Mine favorite is poto and this is halloween
I love when we get to hear Layne sing. I mean he's an amazing vocal percussionist and blows my mind regularly. It's just really nice to hear his singing voice which is very pleasant too.
Eli looks like a sorcerer who worships a dark god, Geoff looks like that god.
Nice one. Now I have God-crushes
I will say after this not “Thanks, God” and “Thanks, Geoff” 😂❤️.
He Sounds Like One Too.
Finished the whole series last week, and this is my fav song of Vikings🥰
How is it that they can take such a simple song and turn it into something so epic? The ranges of these guys know no bounds!
I am in love with *Voice Play!*
I am an Apache woman with black hair. Hearing this gorgeous rendition of "My Mother Told Me" inspires me to tell my spiritual sons and daughters to always *fight for what is right!*
And oooooh, that BASS ❤️!

okay but for real though, Eli looks so perfectly natural in this, I wouldn't even question things if he rowed ashore in England, just be like "oh hey man, you're a bit late, the others came a few hundred years ago. not to worry though, you seem like you'll be alright raiding a church hamlet all by yourself"
Yes, I agree! I’ve always thought that he looks like such a genuinely nice man, but this video makes me question that impression. He looks positively evil in this one!
please read "Interesting Times" by Terry Pratchett. He's a sci-fi author who combines history, philosophy, satire, and political/social commentary in EVERY. SINGLE. BOOK. while still being hilarious. The premise of "Interesting Times" deals with elderly conquerors trying to take over a foreign country, but they're all like 80 years old

ROCK ON!
Eli looked and sounded so fierce (like, in the real way, not the slang way), I wouldn’t want him mad at me! Jose was amazing! This was insanely good!

The Preview for this might be the most insane thing I've ever heard. And mad props to the makeup and dress crew for this one, you guys look badass
My jaw dropped when I saw this thumbnail. And multiple times throughout the video. My GOSH, you guys. I almost decided to wait and watch it with everyone else, but... come on, I couldn't wait for this! But man, they're gonna love it.
I wish I could say as much as everyone else on here, because they've said it all better, but suffice it to say that you're about to get five hundred rewatches from over here! Possibly more comments, too.
But seriously, what is WITH y'all doing songs I already loved but never would've expected, and then DESTROYING it in the best way possible?
