- ASTRAL CHAIN is a new action game from PlatinumGames, directed by Takahisa Taura, known for his work as the game designer on NieR:Automata, and supervised by Hideki Kamiya, creator of the Bayonetta™ series. As part of a police special forces unit in a multi-cultural futuristic city, players work together with a special living weapon, the Legion, in a synergetic action system of battle and exploration.
ASTRAL CHAIN launches exclusively for Nintendo Switch on Aug. 30.

Platinum Games is the kind of developer to stumble drunkenly into the middle of a direct and accidentally announce the best looking title out of the whole lineup.
Well tbf they kinda got one of the top spots of the directs. The big announcements are generally at the beginning and end of the directs.

This is the most hyped I've ever been for a new IP. And the game did not dissapoint. I have a couple small nitpicks but overall it's a solid 9/10 for me, maybe 9.5/10.
Nier and this game a pretty different despite both being Platinum games. But yes, this game is SO GOOD. I wish it had more recognition. Its take on combat is so fresh and the world is a joy to experience.
For anyone that hasn’t bought and played this game. Do yourself a favor and do so it’s absolutely amazing

I played NieR last week, and best 9s’ story minutes before the direct. This trailer had me hyped as it was, and then they revealed the director. Instant pre-order for me, August can not come soon enough

As someone said before, Takahisa Taura wasn't the director of Nier Automata. It was Yoko Taro, who works in Square Enix.
Taura worked as a designer in Nier Automata.
But yeah, still a really good mix.

As soon as the gameplay portion of the trailer started, I immediately went “is this a Platinum game?”.
You know you’re the king of action games when people can recognize the quality of your work just by looking at the flow of combat alone. They truly are the best at what they do.
REVIEWERtm Like I said in another comment thread, TMNT wasn’t as bad as people made it out to be. It was far from their best game, but if you played it co-op with a friend it was a perfectly fine video game. And it could’ve gone from fine to awesome if it’d just been given the proper budget and attention.
But like with most of these things, people just repeat what others have said even though they’ve never played the game for themselves, and thus it becomes a meme.

Bro, this is more like Xenoblade X+ Xenoblade 2 LOL. You have the futuristic aesthetic like X and then you have a similar chain combat like how Drivers and Blades work in XC2, which is even more awesome!

This game had no right to be swept under the rug. Sure the learning curve was pretty intense at times but this game was a love letter for Platinum fans and it shows with the combination of game mechanics and ideas from their previous games.
It sold very well for a Platinum game, i hope Bayonetta does as well

CÁLIBUR I think in order for it to be true cyberpunk it needs to have the combination of futuristic elements (robots, energy weapons, etc.) with the grit of a noir work (urban unrest, grimy future bars, etc.). Basically high tech meets lowlife.

Totally buying this, PlatinumGames never dissapoints.
Stocke except when it does. Dat TMNT wasn’t that great... Even Korra was at least decent. And, believe me, I love Platinum (have all their games, even got Bayo three times).

Freaking amazing, good lord. At first when they showed the Police I said F-Zero 3d!! then the exploration Xenoblade Chronicles X2!! And finally kamiya+zetman's creator master katsura+taura OH MY GOD. Best game of the Direct imo
