Good video, well crafted. You already know I disagree with your assessment of Dooku's stamina. Dooku's stamina has only been taxed by a combined effort of a Soresu and Djem So master, beyond that he could contend with other master duelist without fatigue being a factor. With regards to this match up I have no opinion. I've only ever played Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy where Kyle Katarn was my master, so I don't know about him and his accolades as well as you do. Still though, this was a solid presentation.
I know right? Aside from that while some of the Telekinesis feats he mentioned for Kyle are impressive Dooku has much better and is in my opinion a more powerful force user. I too can't decide who would win in a match against the two because Dooku is more skilled and a more powerful force user in my opinion while Kyle has better physicals and is extremely versatile.
William Henning While I do agree Dooku's force abilities are stronger and also more refined, I don't think it'd make a big difference since Kyle is more than capable of handling what Dooku can dish out, he's faced off against similar opponents before and I do also think Kyle's fighting style is good against someone like Dooku who would struggle against kyle's power attacks and superior strength.

These videos are so beautiful and respectful of the story its such a shame Disney simply dismissed them as meaningless non-canon. They exceed anything disney could write.
It's funny that Dooku's years of experience are noted at the end but also not brought up in Dooku's favor, years noted as being a Lightsaber Duelist, while much of Kyle's experience is against blaster wielding opponents. While I would also give Kyle's personal shield generator a factor in this, I don't think Kyle would have any reasonable experience with the existence of Curved hilt sabers, as they don't seem to appear after the clone wars in either legends or canon, let alone practical fighting experience. Also, Dooku is clearly capable of the type of telekinetic misdirection Caedus used to take him out. I think this would actually be a relatively short affair, similar to Anakin's Solo Genosis or the first half of the Invisible hand fight. The curved hilt allows for many cuts that should have been properly defended wear down Kyle's shield while Dooku retreats and maintains pace, deflecting power blows as needed, Force Lightning is traded, a dexterous attack by Kyle takes Dooku's cape and possibly makes a Shiem, Dooku respond with Dun Möch, provokes an angry attack from Kyle, Dooku telekeneically sweeps the leg and ends the fight.
Also, Kyle Katarn was top tier mercenary and can use wide array of firearms with deadly precision. Reminder: Dooku was Makashi master - not good at blaster deflection.
26:07 I would also like to add that Kyle's feats of effortlessly deflecting acid rain and holding up power counduit or collapsing ceiling were performed on Vjun, powerful Dark Side nexus, which Luke Skywalker himself described as "strong and oppresive". It means that Kyle was siginificantly weakened during this mission, making his feats even more more impressive. Not to mention that he tanked Tavion's Force lightning and Force push without much of a problem, when she was empowered by mentioned nexus and/or Scepter of Ragnos.
Can't say I realized their similarities until this video, very well done. Seems like a fight where environments and different scenario's could vastly alter the outcome because of how evenly matched they are. Really well done.
I love the way evannova defends 80 yr old dooku's physical abilities stubbornly, and then when he is listing off Kyle katarns almost immortal abilities makes sure to mention that that there is only so far the human body can go. Big of a double standard if you ask me. But, I still love his videos.

While Carrick held himself long enough against Draay attack Ahsoka held herself against Ventress alone and 1 Sureso and DJemso Master not to mention she is more faster,durable better armory, has a better skills with the blade and has a advantage because shes a togruntan. Completely agreed with the outcome, but you overlooked something major in your analysis. You only mentioned Kyle's light saber for his weaponry, when Kyle is know for carrying tons of weapons, he'd at least have his pistol with him if nothing else.I wouldn't mention this normally, as using a blaster against someone with a light saber is typically idiotic, but you said yourself Dooku was relatively weak in blaster deflection and while it may be minor I still feel this would give Kyle the upper hand in weaponry as well. Still loved the video, keep up the good work.

I was very surprised you gave the weaponry edge to Dooku. I was also surprised that you did not give martial arts edge to Katarn. I do agree with everything you said, and with the verdict - but Kyle has more edges in this fight then you think. You completely disregarded Kyle's unparalleled mastery in the shooting weapons. Kyle was the sniper and a blaster fighter first, and only became jedi master later on. His most incredible feats are in my opinion all at the point when he is not even a jedi yet, but is capable of shooting his way through entire battalions of empire armies with nothing but a hand-blaster. So after comparing Dooku's and Kyle's lightsaber masteries, I was sure you are going to mention that Kyle is also a Boba-Fett level marksmen and give him an edge in the field, but you didn't even mention it. Then you also didn't mention it in their weaponry, while Kyle has several explosive/tactical weapons and blasters always with him, even after he became a jedi, and he uses them as an off-hand weapon many times in his duels, which often grands him an advantage. I think you clearly know how much of an edge can be a mastery of marksmanship and a proper weaponry in a duel with a master of exclusively makashi style. Dooku would not be able to properly defend himself against a dense blaster assault of a marksman on Kyle's level. Not if he can not counterattack effectively, and he can not, because of their force power and lightsaber mastery equal potential. That's a BIG edge that I thought would determin the winner. Well Kyle won either way, but I still think that Kyle would win this duel with a well placed blaster bolt in a middle of an exhausting lightsaber showdown.

Foacir He most certainly did not, and there are many proofs for that. If you played as Jaden Corr in Jedi Academy, you know that in your missions that you have together with your master Kyle Katarn, many times you witness him fighting with lightsaber, but also in some sections, he would just pull out a hand or machine blaster and start shooting his enemies, laughing, and later stating that "it was fun" he definitely did not abandoned all of his blaster weaponry, he always carries it with him alog side with other gadgets and explosives, you can witness all of this in both Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy, when Kyle, even after he becomes a jedi master, often uses his other weapons just to show off or to have fun. He also teaches his apprentices, including Jaden, to use other weapons aside from lightsaber and on every mission you pick at least two other weapons with you to practice with them.

Awesome video, definitely not a match up I would have thought of, but a fantastic one. Also liked how the physicality and armament actually made a difference this time.
You also forgot to mention that Kyle Katarn was, in addition to being able to shrug off serious injuries, also was known for carrying multiple weapons on him at once, probably a holdover from his days as a soldier. A pretty decent match, though considering how Dooku was older than Katarn and, as you would put it, "grossly overspecialized", poor Dooku didn't stand much chance. Katarn is pretty much the MacGyver of the Star Wars universe.

The fact that these two duelists are so on par I believe that Kyle and Dooku fighting would mostly be a coin flip. With Kyle maybe winning 5.5/10 or 6/10 times by pure age/stamina alone.

EvanNova95 Well, then. I'm very glad to hear it. Perhaps you have time to look at the PDFs concerning Ferus and depict him to the best of your analytic abilities (not as neat as the ones you rent from your local library, but quicker).
At the end of the Last of the Jedi series, Ferus was able to match Darth Vader on even ground when bolstered by the Darkside of the Force. However, this was from a gradual adaptation of the Darkside rather than a sudden emotional outburst. Fergus could probably match anyone at the standard high knight or master-level Jedi, just under the Jedi Council. Personally, I think two great opponents for him would be Adult Ashoka Tano, Jaden Korr, Komari Vosa, or Zayne Carrik
I like Ferus. How about a Ferus Olin vs Jax Pavan matchup. We have 2 younger Jedi knights who survived the Purge, fought the empire during the early days of the Dark Times, dueled Darth Vader, and star in their own novelization series. These 2 characters are very similar, and I would enjoy to see a matchup of this sort.
Agree with the outcome, but I think that Kyle Katarn would have an edge in martial arts and lightsaber skill, since Dooku's Makashi wouldn't be anything new to Kyle, and although Dooku has studied countering forms, Kyle's finesse with all of them would give him such a wide and effective skill set that would catch the count off guard. Thier Force powers are probably equal as you said though. Agree with everything else.
Dooku's specialization in Makashi would defeat Kyle's versatility. It is even mentioned numerous times in the lore, that a specialist will often defeat a *battlemaster*.
Especially a specialist of Dooku's caliber. His mindset was one meant to counter battle masters as he saw splitting your attention to multiple styles dilutes all of them and that can be a major weakness. He specialized in Makashi and his ability was so great he managed to actually minimize Makashi's 2 biggest weaknesses, heavy assaults and blaster weaponry.

Considering Asajj Ventress is probably about equal to half of the droids fighting in the Battle of Ryloth, I think *Ima-Gun Di vs. Luminara Unduli* would be a pretty good match.
Personally, I think Katarn's force powers are overstated here. I would love to know how you go about deciding who comes out on top with respect to force powers. Are they armed or unarmed? Are they fatigued or fresh? These things might be little, be in close matches they make the difference. You say Kyle cannot defend lightning without his saber? So what does he do if he is disarmed? Just a few thoughts that are annoying me in my head. Great video though, well put together as always, and I like your delivery more now than previous videos.

I've always thought of it as a cop-out when you declare fighters equal. There will always be something that gives one combatant an edge over the other. That, and a large portion of why I watch these videos is to see who comes ahead in the matchup.
I also have a question, what era of jedi do you think was the best functioning if, not what do you think was the best functioning era of sith, i personally think rule of two.

steel58836 Actually I don't. Sidious > Any Sith and he wouldn't need help against Krayt and Nihl. Bane is extreme in his own right, so him having Zannah they could take down Sidious, but it wouldn't be easy.
Malgus would go down first. The more intense part of the fight would be between Bane and Vader, but I ultimately see Vader falling after a long, hard duel.
Nathaniel Grindstaff I beg to differ. Vader beats Bane. His style is far more sophisticated, his tactic of pattern recognition is perfect for dealing with a textbook combatant like Bane, he is the stronger and more skillful force wielder. The only thing he needs to worry about is lightning.
Rob George I don't Vader's ability to land powerful blows against Bane, as he is a more refined duelist. However, Bane's body is more resistant to pain than Vader's due to the limitations of his suit. And while Vader's strong in the Force, I don't think he's powerful enough to break Bane's Force barriers. So ultimately, I do see Darth Bane's lightning being the deciding factor. He'd be able to short out Vader's life support, forcing Vader to use the Force to sustain himself, but that would give Bane the opening to strike him down. It would take someone of a higher skill set than Vader like Yoda or Sidious to defeat the creator of the Rule of Two.
Nathaniel Grindstaff Those are some solid points though I beg to differ. While Bane's body is more resistant to force lightning, he is not nearly as tough as Vader is. Vader has been shot, exposed to hard vacuum, torched by a flamethrower, and taken a grenade to the face with min dmg. His artificial limbs grant him far superior strength then anything Bane can naturally do (so no augmentation). In terms of force power, I calcd Bane to be a 7 and Vader to be a 8. Breaking bane's force def's are difficult for Vader but not impossible. What Vader can do, is use his environment as a weapon. Force shields only stop influence, not momentum. Vader can lift and chuck everything at Bane, while Bane does not due to being a rather blunt force user. As for dueling, I believe we both agree that Vader is the superior duelist so that settles that. Bane can easily contend and could pull a win off(hes fucking Bane) but ultimately, I don't think Bane can beat Vader.

Any Revan could probably beat Kyle with reborn Revan curbstomping. As for jaden vs Galen id have to go with jaden Korr. He defeated tavion while amped with Marka ragnos’s spirit and power. And Marka ragnos is a caedus level threat. So I think jaden gets a solid 7/10 majority.
Obi-Wan knows Soresu, Ataru, Shii-Cho, Shien, and Niman. That's basically every form except for Makashi and Juyo. In sabers, it's a tie. In Force, Kenobi often has trouble, so yes Kyle. Kyle wins via the force in a drawn out battle in my opinion.
I think that an amazing thing for Evan to do when he reaches 50k subs (and I am sure he will) would be too have a top 10 Jedi and Sith lords and then do a top 3 of each versus each other. This probably will not happen but it would be great.

I will admit that Kyle Katarn is perhaps my favorite Jedi of all time, and I love the fact that he has emerged victorious in every Versus match up thus far. Really well done. Nice mix of art. I can't really fault the verdict, even though as a Makashi fangirl it annoys me to acknowledge that a jack-of-all-trades MIGHT be able to win against a dueling specialist. ;)
The versatility helps him definitely but Dooku overall is a more skilled and in my opinion powerful opponent ( in the force ) I believe that if Kyle made a single mistake he's dead but if he could outlast Dooku he would win. For me it's a wash.
Thank You. Also I totally agree that a Makashi Master would be more vitiable against a combatant who's spread so thin he has no true main focus, i.e. Plagues, Galen Marek, and Cin Drallig. However, Katarn is one of those rare jack of all trades fighters who's advanced his skills and oriented his focuses to the point where he is able utilize a large pallet of skills without running the risk of becoming predictable or sacrificing his control. I don't mean to sound rude, its just I've been getting that same question a lot.
Interesting video Evan. I’ve watched a # of your videos before seeing this 1, & have enjoyed many of them. I watched it because I never saw it pop up before. I pretty much agree with everything that you said in this vs. battle… but the 1 thing that still urks me with some of these saber battles… is the over empathize of the hilt. I was a born with a disability, & many… MANY years ago… I took up Kendo on a whim. I did wrestling in Junior High & High School… & was kind of interested in taking up Judo when I started college. I am fortunate enough where I live that we had the largest Japan town in the entire United States, & there is a HUGE Buddhist temple near downtown. A # of times I went down there on my own because of the fact that I had a friend that was into Amine… frequented the stores down there when I was with him… & went down there just to do something different. Saw them do Judo a few times… & toyed with the idea of taking a class. But actually ended up taking the Kendo classes that they had just because of the fact that it was different. Even though I knew that I would end up getting my butt kicked… I wanted to try something different for a change. So in an essence… the 2 fighting forms that I learned 1st was Form 1 & 5. Roughly 5 years later… I started taking fencing (European style) at a local community college. The thing about ‘fencing’… European style… is that there is more than 1 style. The French is different than the Spanish. German is different than Italian. And the Russian form is completely different than any of them. Basically they are all kind of lumped into the same class/style, but they are all slightly different in some way. Stances… grips… each have their strengths & differences. 1 of my favorite classic novels for example is “Edmund Dantes - The Count of Mounte Cristo. When Edmund is still in prison, he meets a priest that was thrown into jail because he would not tell Napoleon where the treasure of Sparta was located. While being in prison, the priest educated Edmund with an advanced education & taught him how to fence. 1 of the lines that he tells Edmund, is that the stronger swordsman is not necessarily the better swordsman. Which I think is true to a point. But when I was younger… I read a lot of the Conan books for contrast. A little different, but in 1 of his battles… Conan goes up against duelist very similar to this Kyle/Dooku duel. Conan was kind of doing the European broadsword thing, & the other guy was like a fencer. 1 of the things that Conan said… & I have to agree with him on is that it isn’t the style or the weapon that matters… but the thinking & the technique that is applied that does. Coming from a guy that has practiced using a straight & a curved hilt… just the fact that it is curved… doesn’t make it a better grip. It’s just a different way of holding it. You can do a lot faster moves with it, but because of the fact that it is curved like that… you are putting more strain on your wrist. And because it is bent… & it is a lot easier to knock it out of someone’s hand if you hit it the right way because of the tension that your wrist is under. Your hand will also fatigue & cramp up if held in the position long enough. And a fighter that is equipped with better armor/weapons doesn’t make them a better fighter. If that were true… General Custer wouldn’t have gotten slaughtered. Now this is something that I am not too sure of, but Kyle might have gone up against a curved hilt fighter when he was in the Valley of the Jedi. From when the game came out, when the game was turned into a novel, & then put into a card series… a lot of the aspects of the story kept changing. So that is why I am kind of unsure of this… but the last time that I looked at Sarris’s hilt, it’s kind of semi-curved hilt. It isn’t as pronounced as Dooku or Ventress, but there is a slight curve to the pummel. The grip on it is more like a cavalry sword from the 1800-1900’s. I don’t know how he takes her out in the book… that I forget… but in the game… the easiest way to nail her is to use persuasion. You can literally walk up right behind her & whack her 1. And she won’t even fight back. Now you can take her on in a head’s on duel without any Force gimmicks… but she is a lot harder to take out that way. So it’s all about mechanics. At least with the swords. So that's what I have an issue with the curved hilt thing. Anyway… rambling aside… cool video… & keep it up! I enjoyed it!
Great video. While I think Dooku is slightly better duelist in terms of pure technique, and his Force showings are slightly above Kyles, the gap beetwen them is not big and Kyle can easily contend, to the point when Duel become a endurance round. I would also give Kyle edge in weaponry, against Makashi specialist blaster could work quite well, especially that Kyle is almost Boba Fett level marksmen.
A few things that got left out that I believe are critical to this match up. While dooku is more refined with his force powers, katarn has a much larger skill set in his arsonal.

You already know I disagree with your assessment of Dooku's stamina. Dooku's stamina has only been taxed by a combined effort of a Soresu and Djem So master, beyond that he could contend with other master duelist without fatigue being a factor.
With regards to this match up I have no opinion. I've only ever played Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy where Kyle Katarn was my master, so I don't know about him and his accolades as well as you do.
Still though, this was a solid presentation.
I know right? Aside from that while some of the Telekinesis feats he mentioned for Kyle are impressive Dooku has much better and is in my opinion a more powerful force user. I too can't decide who would win in a match against the two because Dooku is more skilled and a more powerful force user in my opinion while Kyle has better physicals and is extremely versatile.
William Henning While I do agree Dooku's force abilities are stronger and also more refined, I don't think it'd make a big difference since Kyle is more than capable of handling what Dooku can dish out, he's faced off against similar opponents before and I do also think Kyle's fighting style is good against someone like Dooku who would struggle against kyle's power attacks and superior strength.

It's funny that Dooku's years of experience are noted at the end but also not brought up in Dooku's favor, years noted as being a Lightsaber Duelist, while much of Kyle's experience is against blaster wielding opponents. While I would also give Kyle's personal shield generator a factor in this, I don't think Kyle would have any reasonable experience with the existence of Curved hilt sabers, as they don't seem to appear after the clone wars in either legends or canon, let alone practical fighting experience. Also, Dooku is clearly capable of the type of telekinetic misdirection Caedus used to take him out. I think this would actually be a relatively short affair, similar to Anakin's Solo Genosis or the first half of the Invisible hand fight. The curved hilt allows for many cuts that should have been properly defended wear down Kyle's shield while Dooku retreats and maintains pace, deflecting power blows as needed, Force Lightning is traded, a dexterous attack by Kyle takes Dooku's cape and possibly makes a Shiem, Dooku respond with Dun Möch, provokes an angry attack from Kyle, Dooku telekeneically sweeps the leg and ends the fight.
Also, Kyle Katarn was top tier mercenary and can use wide array of firearms with deadly precision. Reminder: Dooku was Makashi master - not good at blaster deflection.
26:07 I would also like to add that Kyle's feats of effortlessly deflecting acid rain and holding up power counduit or collapsing ceiling were performed on Vjun, powerful Dark Side nexus, which Luke Skywalker himself described as "strong and oppresive". It means that Kyle was siginificantly weakened during this mission, making his feats even more more impressive. Not to mention that he tanked Tavion's Force lightning and Force push without much of a problem, when she was empowered by mentioned nexus and/or Scepter of Ragnos.
Can't say I realized their similarities until this video, very well done. Seems like a fight where environments and different scenario's could vastly alter the outcome because of how evenly matched they are. Really well done.
I love the way evannova defends 80 yr old dooku's physical abilities stubbornly, and then when he is listing off Kyle katarns almost immortal abilities makes sure to mention that that there is only so far the human body can go.

Completely agreed with the outcome, but you overlooked something major in your analysis. You only mentioned Kyle's light saber for his weaponry, when Kyle is know for carrying tons of weapons, he'd at least have his pistol with him if nothing else.I wouldn't mention this normally, as using a blaster against someone with a light saber is typically idiotic, but you said yourself Dooku was relatively weak in blaster deflection and while it may be minor I still feel this would give Kyle the upper hand in weaponry as well.

I was very surprised you gave the weaponry edge to Dooku. I was also surprised that you did not give martial arts edge to Katarn. I do agree with everything you said, and with the verdict - but Kyle has more edges in this fight then you think. You completely disregarded Kyle's unparalleled mastery in the shooting weapons. Kyle was the sniper and a blaster fighter first, and only became jedi master later on. His most incredible feats are in my opinion all at the point when he is not even a jedi yet, but is capable of shooting his way through entire battalions of empire armies with nothing but a hand-blaster. So after comparing Dooku's and Kyle's lightsaber masteries, I was sure you are going to mention that Kyle is also a Boba-Fett level marksmen and give him an edge in the field, but you didn't even mention it. Then you also didn't mention it in their weaponry, while Kyle has several explosive/tactical weapons and blasters always with him, even after he became a jedi, and he uses them as an off-hand weapon many times in his duels, which often grands him an advantage. I think you clearly know how much of an edge can be a mastery of marksmanship and a proper weaponry in a duel with a master of exclusively makashi style. Dooku would not be able to properly defend himself against a dense blaster assault of a marksman on Kyle's level. Not if he can not counterattack effectively, and he can not, because of their force power and lightsaber mastery equal potential. That's a BIG edge that I thought would determin the winner. Well Kyle won either way, but I still think that Kyle would win this duel with a well placed blaster bolt in a middle of an exhausting lightsaber showdown.

If you played as Jaden Corr in Jedi Academy, you know that in your missions that you have together with your master Kyle Katarn, many times you witness him fighting with lightsaber, but also in some sections, he would just pull out a hand or machine blaster and start shooting his enemies, laughing, and later stating that "it was fun" he definitely did not abandoned all of his blaster weaponry, he always carries it with him alog side with other gadgets and explosives, you can witness all of this in both Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy, when Kyle, even after he becomes a jedi master, often uses his other weapons just to show off or to have fun. He also teaches his apprentices, including Jaden, to use other weapons aside from lightsaber and on every mission you pick at least two other weapons with you to practice with them.

A pretty decent match, though considering how Dooku was older than Katarn and, as you would put it, "grossly overspecialized", poor Dooku didn't stand much chance. Katarn is pretty much the MacGyver of the Star Wars universe.

The Jedi were had reached their peak during Dooku’s era. Period. Kyle Katarn is not in his league. He’d get cut down by Dooku, he’d have no answer for his insanely precise and quick bladework. Well, then. I'm very glad to hear it. Perhaps you have time to look at the PDFs concerning Ferus and depict him to the best of your analytic abilities (not as neat as the ones you rent from your local library, but quicker).
At the end of the Last of the Jedi series, Ferus was able to match Darth Vader on even ground when bolstered by the Darkside of the Force. However, this was from a gradual adaptation of the Darkside rather than a sudden emotional outburst. Fergus could probably match anyone at the standard high knight or master-level Jedi, just under the Jedi Council. Personally, I think two great opponents for him would be Adult Ashoka Tano, Jaden Korr, Komari Vosa, or Zayne Carrik

I like Ferus. How about a Ferus Olin vs Jax Pavan matchup. We have 2 younger Jedi knights who survived the Purge, fought the empire during the early days of the Dark Times, dueled Darth Vader, and star in their own novelization series. These 2 characters are very similar, and I would enjoy to see a matchup of this sort.
Agree with the outcome, but I think that Kyle Katarn would have an edge in martial arts and lightsaber skill, since Dooku's Makashi wouldn't be anything new to Kyle, and although Dooku has studied countering forms, Kyle's finesse with all of them would give him such a wide and effective skill set that would catch the count off guard. Thier Force powers are probably equal as you said though. Agree with everything else.
Dooku's specialization in Makashi would defeat Kyle's versatility. It is even mentioned numerous times in the lore, that a specialist will often defeat a *battlemaster*.
Especially a specialist of Dooku's caliber.
His mindset was one meant to counter battle masters as he saw splitting your attention to multiple styles dilutes all of them and that can be a major weakness.
He specialized in Makashi and his ability was so great he managed to actually minimize Makashi's 2 biggest weaknesses, heavy assaults and blaster weaponry.

Personally, I think Katarn's force powers are overstated here. I would love to know how you go about deciding who comes out on top with respect to force powers. Are they armed or unarmed? Are they fatigued or fresh? These things might be little, be in close matches they make the difference. You say Kyle cannot defend lightning without his saber? So what does he do if he is disarmed? Just a few thoughts that are annoying me in my head. Great video though, well put together as always, and I like your delivery more now than previous videos.

I've always thought of it as a cop-out when you declare fighters equal. There will always be something that gives one combatant an edge over the other. That, and a large portion of why I watch these videos is to see who comes ahead in the matchup.

Malgus would go down first. The more intense part of the fight would be between Bane and Vader, but I ultimately see Vader falling after a long, hard duel.
Nathaniel Grindstaff I beg to differ. Vader beats Bane. His style is far more sophisticated, his tactic of pattern recognition is perfect for dealing with a textbook combatant like Bane, he is the stronger and more skillful force wielder. The only thing he needs to worry about is lightning.
Rob George I don't Vader's ability to land powerful blows against Bane, as he is a more refined duelist. However, Bane's body is more resistant to pain than Vader's due to the limitations of his suit. And while Vader's strong in the Force, I don't think he's powerful enough to break Bane's Force barriers. So ultimately, I do see Darth Bane's lightning being the deciding factor. He'd be able to short out Vader's life support, forcing Vader to use the Force to sustain himself, but that would give Bane the opening to strike him down. It would take someone of a higher skill set than Vader like Yoda or Sidious to defeat the creator of the Rule of Two.

Vader has been shot, exposed to hard vacuum, torched by a flamethrower, and taken a grenade to the face with min dmg. His artificial limbs grant him far superior strength then anything Bane can naturally do (so no augmentation). In terms of force power, I calcd Bane to be a 7 and Vader to be a 8. Breaking bane's force def's are difficult for Vader but not impossible. What Vader can do, is use his environment as a weapon. Force shields only stop influence, not momentum. Vader can lift and chuck everything at Bane, while Bane does not due to being a rather blunt force user. As for dueling, I believe we both agree that Vader is the superior duelist so that settles that. Bane can easily contend and could pull a win off(hes fucking Bane) but ultimately, I don't think Bane can beat Vader.

Revan beats Kyle (Kyle can contend though of course) and Jaden probably beats Galen. Though I'm not to sure about that win for Jaden.
Any Revan could probably beat Kyle with reborn Revan curbstomping. As for jaden vs Galen id have to go with jaden Korr. He defeated tavion while amped with Marka ragnos’s spirit and power. And Marka ragnos is a caedus level threat. So I think jaden gets a solid 7/10 majority.

Obi-Wan knows Soresu, Ataru, Shii-Cho, Shien, and Niman. That's basically every form except for Makashi and Juyo. In sabers, it's a tie. In Force, Kenobi often has trouble, so yes Kyle. Kyle wins via the force in a drawn out battle in my opinion.
Darth Kenobi yes your right, perhaps it is a tie but kyle has more experience than obi so maybe kyle gets the slight edge?

I think that an amazing thing for Evan to do when he reaches 50k subs (and I am sure he will) would be too have a top 10 Jedi and Sith lords and then do a top 3 of each versus each other. This probably will not happen but it would be great.
Awesome match up, and as is almost always the case, I completely agree with your verdict. I will admit that Kyle Katarn is perhaps my favorite Jedi of all time, and I love the fact that he has emerged victorious in every Versus match up thus far. One match up that I think would be cool (I apologize if you've already done this one and I just haven't seen it yet) is Darth Maul vs Corran Horn. I look forward to future videos. Take care.

Really well done. Nice mix of art. I can't really fault the verdict, even though as a Makashi fangirl it annoys me to acknowledge that a jack-of-all-trades MIGHT be able to win against a dueling specialist. ;)
The versatility helps him definitely but Dooku overall is a more skilled and in my opinion powerful opponent ( in the force ) I believe that if Kyle made a single mistake he's dead but if he could outlast Dooku he would win. For me it's a wash.
Thank You. Also I totally agree that a Makashi Master would be more vitiable against a combatant who's spread so thin he has no true main focus, i.e. Plagues, Galen Marek, and Cin Drallig.
However, Katarn is one of those rare jack of all trades fighters who's advanced his skills and oriented his focuses to the point where he is able utilize a large pallet of skills without running the risk of becoming predictable or sacrificing his control.

Interesting video Evan. I’ve watched a # of your videos before seeing this 1, & have enjoyed many of them. I watched it because I never saw it pop up before. I pretty much agree with everything that you said in this vs. battle… but the 1 thing that still urks me with some of these saber battles… is the over empathize of the hilt. I was a born with a disability, & many… MANY years ago… I took up Kendo on a whim. I did wrestling in Junior High & High School… & was kind of interested in taking up Judo when I started college. I am fortunate enough where I live that we had the largest Japan town in the entire United States, & there is a HUGE Buddhist temple near downtown. A # of times I went down there on my own because of the fact that I had a friend that was into Amine… frequented the stores down there when I was with him… & went down there just to do something different. Saw them do Judo a few times… & toyed with the idea of taking a class. But actually ended up taking the Kendo classes that they had just because of the fact that it was different. Even though I knew that I would end up getting my butt kicked… I wanted to try something different for a change. So in an essence… the 2 fighting forms that I learned 1st was Form 1 & 5. Roughly 5 years later… I started taking fencing (European style) at a local community college. The thing about ‘fencing’… European style… is that there is more than 1 style. The French is different than the Spanish. German is different than Italian. And the Russian form is completely different than any of them. Basically they are all kind of lumped into the same class/style, but they are all slightly different in some way. Stances… grips… each have their strengths & differences. 1 of my favorite classic novels for example is “Edmund Dantes - The Count of Mounte Cristo. When Edmund is still in prison, he meets a priest that was thrown into jail because he would not tell Napoleon where the treasure of Sparta was located. While being in prison, the priest educated Edmund with an advanced education & taught him how to fence. 1 of the lines that he tells Edmund, is that the stronger swordsman is not necessarily the better swordsman. Which I think is true to a point. But when I was younger… I read a lot of the Conan books for contrast. A little different, but in 1 of his battles… Conan goes up against duelist very similar to this Kyle/Dooku duel. Conan was kind of doing the European broadsword thing, & the other guy was like a fencer. 1 of the things that Conan said… & I have to agree with him on is that it isn’t the style or the weapon that matters… but the thinking & the technique that is applied that does. Coming from a guy that has practiced using a straight & a curved hilt… just the fact that it is curved… doesn’t make it a better grip. It’s just a different way of holding it. You can do a lot faster moves with it, but because of the fact that it is curved like that… you are putting more strain on your wrist. And because it is bent… & it is a lot easier to knock it out of someone’s hand if you hit it the right way because of the tension that your wrist is under. Your hand will also fatigue & cramp up if held in the position long enough. And a fighter that is equipped with better armor/weapons doesn’t make them a better fighter. If that were true… General Custer wouldn’t have gotten slaughtered. Now this is something that I am not too sure of, but Kyle might have gone up against a curved hilt fighter when he was in the Valley of the Jedi. From when the game came out, when the game was turned into a novel, & then put into a card series… a lot of the aspects of the story kept changing. So that is why I am kind of unsure of this… but the last time that I looked at Sarris’s hilt, it’s kind of semi-curved hilt. It isn’t as pronounced as Dooku or Ventress, but there is a slight curve to the pummel. The grip on it is more like a cavalry sword from the 1800-1900’s. I don’t know how he takes her out in the book… that I forget… but in the game… the easiest way to nail her is to use persuasion. You can literally walk up right behind her & whack her 1. And she won’t even fight back. Now you can take her on in a head’s on duel without any Force gimmicks… but she is a lot harder to take out that way. So it’s all about mechanics. At least with the swords. So that's what I have an issue with the curved hilt thing. Anyway… rambling aside… cool video… & keep it up! I enjoyed it!

Great video. While I think Dooku is slightly better duelist in terms of pure technique, and his Force showings are slightly above Kyles, the gap beetwen them is not big and Kyle can easily contend, to the point when Duel become a endurance round. I would also give Kyle edge in weaponry, against Makashi specialist blaster could work quite well, especially that Kyle is almost Boba Fett level marksmen.

A few things that got left out that I believe are critical to this match up. While dooku is more refined with his force powers, katarn has a much larger skill set in his arsonal.
