    Harry in Slytherin sounds a bit more interesting. At least from my perspective Slytherin is usually painted as a bunch of one dimensional villains with few redeemable qualities, but having the main character and hero of the story be part of this house it gives me the impression that perhaps Slytherin house can be redeemed. It’s also nice to see the Golden Trio’s friendship still blossom even with Harry being part of a different house.

    I'm not sure Harry's "defeat" of Voldemort in Philosopher/Sorcerer's Stone would necessarily lose him support in Slytherin. Some might imagine that if boy Harry can defeat the Dark Lord (twice!) before he was 14, implies he must be a very powerful wizard indeed. Some ambitious wizards might decide Harry was worth following rather than the man who had failed to kill him.

    • @Doomzdeh
      @Doomzdeh 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +41

      This legit wouldn’t happen. Harry, even while in Slytherin, stands against Blood Purity and all Pureblood Ideals.
      Dumbledore is also stronger and more talented than Voldemort. Despite this, the Death Eaters never bowed to him. Why? Because he doesn’t champion their goals and ideals.

    • @Zong_Cheng
      @Zong_Cheng 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +41

      @@Doomzdeh But at the same time, Harry as a baby "beat" Voldemort and then he did it again as an 11 year old. The blood purity aspect also doesn't matter as it isn't brought up yet at this point in the story. Ron may be a "blood traitor" but that is never actually explained to Harry early on even when he spends even more time with Ron and Hermione than in this timeline, and the mudblood racism is in 2nd year. You can't even spin it that Harry encounters this stuff even earlier due to more interaction with Slytherin students since he is almost completely isolated until the Quidditch practice where he will almost immediately get the public backing of Snape and then Lucius, followed quickly by the majority of Slytherin for dominating Quidditch. Harry also has a habit of not opening up about his problems to his friends so any bullying he would have undergone before the Golden Trio forms would be extremely lacking in detail if he even mentions it to them.
      No matter how one slices it, Harry is a crazy impressive Slytherin who has "proven" he is stronger than Voldemort twice and his values and stance in regards to Pureblood supremacy are completely unknown to the rest of his House. Unlike Dumbledore who actively opposes the Pureblood agenda and supports "Muggle lovers", Harry hasn't told anyone anything for them to know because of Malfoy's slander campaign and as they will quickly realise, he knows little about the Wizarding World in the first place, a perfect person to try and mold to support their cause unless everyone in the House of the cunning has absolutely no tact whatsoever. We already know Slytherin is all too willing to support a talented halfblood in the form of Tom Riddle, let alone one who repeatedly beats up the greatest Dark Lord in history as a child.

      I agree with this sentiment, I can see some of the death eaters being extremely impressed at Harry’s ability to fend off the man that they were so scared of, not once but twice, and then after his return watching Harry, yet again, match Voldemort and Voldemort be unable to take down a 14-year old boy, AGAIN, Harry being a slytherin in this universe would set even more doubt about their position of security behind Voldemort that they once had, plus who’s to say that all of voldemorts death eaters actually agree with the pure blood mantra of the others, or how many that are more like pettigrew, just on the crew for protection

    • @quiltingrox
      @quiltingrox ปีที่แล้ว +61

      For whatever reason I thought the Basilisk could smell and tell who were pure-bloods, half-bloods, and muggle born wizards. So why in Canon did it even listen to Tom Riddle/Voldemort even if he was a descendant of Salazar? Shouldn't him being a half-blood override his decendency to Salazar, since he isn't pure?

    • @abbeygrissom8988
      @abbeygrissom8988 ปีที่แล้ว +87

      @quiltingrox I thought that was strange as well. Even in the original series it's never explicitly explained (if I remember correctly)
      I'm just guessing since Voldemort is a long distant heir (through the Gaunt line) to Salazar, that overrides the muggle aspect.
      Maybe voldemort himself is proof that blood purity doesn't matter 🤔 ultimate irony...

      @@quiltingrox The Snake cannot distinguish heritage from scent. Are you crazy? We’re constantly told throughout the series that magical blood is magical blood, no matter what Blood Purists like to say.
      The Basilisk listens to Riddle because he can speak Parseltongue and because he had figured out by that point that he was a descendant of the Gaunts, who had accessed the Chamber before canonically. Given those two facts, the Basilisk has no reason to doubt Riddle’s story. Just as it has no reason to doubt Harry’s story either when he shows up in green robes and speaking Parseltongue. The Basilisk obeys those who can convince it that they will fulfill Slytherin’s vision. And generally, in Magical Britain, only descendants of Slytherin can even speak Paraeltongue, let alone find the Chamber of Secrets.

    • @quiltingrox
      @quiltingrox ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@Doomzdeh Yes I agree and understand all of that of which you said but I still believe that the Basilisk can distinguish by it's smell.
      1) Remember in the canon books and movie that even when the Basilisk lost its vision to Fawkes, it's hearing and scent capabilities were extremely good. It was fooled when Harry threw that rock. Otherwise it would have got him.
      2) Also how did the Basilisk know that Tom was the heir and not Harry? The whole point of the alternate what if storyline addresses this by mentioning that Harry has a piece of Voldemort/riddle's soul therefore allowing him to speak to snakes and carry his essence. My belief is that because Harry was half blood and had Voldemort's soul within him she listened to him. She listens to Tom/Voldemort because she can communicate with him and also smell tom's blood and tell he is indeed an heir to Slytherin.
      3) Also how did it know which students to attack which all ended up to be muggle-born? Aka Moaning Myrtle, Hermione, Colin, Justin, Penelope (both book and movie Canon) all were muggle-borns except Mrs. Norris's cat and nearly headless Nick. Was that just a coincidence then by your logic? That was the point of the Basilisk and the chamber of secrets storyline. It could smell blood. It literally said it in the books and the movie. "I smell blood" "kill". Therefore it knew which students at Hogwarts were muggle born/"mudbloods", half-bloods, and pure bloods.
      4) Other wise if it were just a coincidence that it attacked all miluggle-borns, wouldn't Riddle and whoever control it have to walk with it constantly in the pipes to tell it who to attack? It seems that you unleash it in the Chamber of Secrets, tell it to attack mudbloods and it will do it slythering across the pipes and cause havoc for Hogwarts and you didn't necessarily have to be there you also can't see since your inside the walls and pipes. It knows which were from muggle families by smelling blood.
      5) if I were Tom Riddle and didn't know every student at Hogwarts and their lineage, how would I know which students were not pure bloods and how would I tell the Basilisk which people to attack, if i don't know their blood history? What if I accidentally caused a purge on mostly pure bloods thinking they were muggles? I feel like the Basilisk has to be able to smell that through it's enhanced and dark magical senses by Salazar Slytherin who's goal was to purge Hogwarts of Mudbloods and also Half bloods.
      6) Salazar only wanted Pure bloods attending Hogwarts because of his fear of losing the War between Wizards and Muggles as well as his superiority complex from his fear and hatred towards muggles. Does that make sense?
      -What doesn't to me is that I wish the Basilisk talked to Riddle and commented or asked why he isn't pure blood but reckonizes that he had Salazars blood in him still so she will listen to him still. That would have solved it.

      @hawkeyez46 ปีที่แล้ว +77

      @@huskiefan8950 well normally, of course she absolutely wouldn’t have any part of “being on the same team as Draco”, but in this alternate timeline Draco has had a ton of character development and isn’t the same evil little kid we see in the movies/books. Because of Harry, and Draco’s growing friendship with Harry, Draco i think has done at least a few things to earn Hermoine’s respect.
      For one, freeing Doby was HUGE-I almost think that alone might be enough for Hermoine to change her perspective towards Draco…TBF, Draco risks a lot to free Doby; he essentially turns on his own father in doing so.
      Secondly, Draco has repeatedly sided with and/or helped Harry in several crucial situations. And while Draco is helping Harry, he is simultaneously hurting Voldemort (and further outcasting himself from his own family)
      Lastly, I think the growing respect between Harry and Draco (which is l becoming akin to a friendship) would completely change the way Draco acts towards Harry’s friends: We see this in the video when Draco warns Hermoine that she could be next when all of the non-purebloods are being round up, he tells her that she should be careful. So even if he isn’t actively protecting her (which I’m not sure he even could if he wanted to) he definitely is showing that he cares about her well-being.
      -I think all of this is plenty reason to believe that Hermoine would feel differently towards Draco in this timeline, maybe they never become bffs but I think they could put aside any differences and work together for Harry’s sake.

    I'm not sure Harry defeating Voldemort in Philosophers Stone would dissuade any Slytherins from thinking he might be an up and coming dark wizard. Dark Wizards generally operate under the "there can be only one" way of thinking. So no one would expect Harry not to fight Voldemort. Regardless, Slytherins gravitate toward power and success so between Harry winning them the house cup, winning all the quidditch games and defeating Voldemort I think it safe to say that all Slytherins that aren't the children of hardcore Death Eaters would be cheering him and cozying up to him. So it's far more likely Draco would be the outcast rather than Harry. Draco would still have his small clique of wannabe Death Eaters, but as long as the wind appears to be blowing due Harry then no Slytherin will be turning their back on him dark wizard or no.

      True, this would likely be the case for awhile, at least to the Slytherins who aren’t hung up on blood status and Harry’s clear preference to hang out with Gryffindors. This would be true until the end of Goblet of Fire, where many would hear that Voldemort is back and either believe Harry crazy or be scared of embracing Harry due to Voldemort’s brutality and cruelty.
      After all, though Harry had defeated Voldemort twice by then and escaped from him another time, the rest of Slytherin would still likely realize that Harry would have to get incredibly lucky to do it again, because they would see his generally average magical abilities in class.

    Now that I’ve rewatched this series and had some time to think about the plot, I have to say, as much as I love it, the story sometimes feels like it follows canon a bit too closely.
    Like, I think it feels a bit contrived that Ron and Hermione are still Harry’s best (and only) friends under these circumstances. I get that Harry still befriended Ron on the train, and thus hangs out with him once in a while, and that Hermione saved Harry from the cursed broom during his first Quidditch match and thus became friendly with him, but it doesn’t follow that Ron and Hermione would be friends with each other too. In fact, without Ron helping to save Hermione from the troll, their relationship would probably remain quite frosty, like it was early in Philosopher’s Stone. Harry would thus be in the awkward position of having two friends who can’t stand each other.
    But the story’s biggest weakness is that, other than Draco, none of the other Slytherins in Harry’s year play any role at all. Where are Theodore Nott, Blaise Zabini, Daphne Greengrass, Tracey Davis or any of the others? Even if Harry and Draco don’t get along at first, that doesn’t mean that Harry can’t be friends with any of the other Slytherins. And I doubt that Harry would be an outcast in Slytherin; after all, we know that him defeating Voldemort as a baby made a lot of the former Death Eaters wonder whether Harry might take Voldemort’s place one day. Lucius Malfoy would probably tell Draco to get close to Harry and befriend him, which means, whether he likes it or not, Draco has no choice but to at least try to be cordial with Harry. And Harry as a first year has no idea what the Dark Arts even are; the fact that he’ll always be Voldemort’s enemy doesn’t necessarily mean he would be opposed to the Dark Arts as such. The prophecy only states that Harry and Voldemort can only die at each other’s hand, it says nothing about whether Harry is a light or a dark wizard.
    Long story short, while Ron and Hermione might still be on friendly terms with Harry, I doubt they’d be his ‘best friends’. Instead, I think Harry would befriend some of his fellow Slytherins. Maybe Blaise Zabini becomes his best friend instead? Theodore Nott?

      I have this problem with a lot of the series as well, paticulary when J acts like Trelawney's prediction in and thus the outcome of year 3 needs to remain unchanged without elaborating (Why? Why is her prediction the same regardless? This is literally a different story), while simultaneously ackownedging the altered scenarios that should've logically created a completely different ending to that story which would have knock-on effects going forwards.

      I agree, and slytherin's actually have very different opinions regarding their moral and views, like by seeing how Harry truly is and finally someone is there to oppose Voldemort, I think those who have always wanted to get away from it would try to reach out to him and befriend him and help him out. I don't think slytherin's would keep him as an outcast,he'd definitely have a bunch of slytherin's who agree with him, whether they are rebels or not, he would definitely have friends in slytherin, and I also believe that Draco wouldn't stay as neutral as he is now,he might end up being friends with him actually.

    • @starsign0805

      I think it would become a whole other story then. I think the point was to change that one fact and see how it would impact the rest of the events in the book, without losing the essence of the story. The whole learning is that 'it is not who we are, but our choices that define us.' Harry and Tom Riddle, both, had difficult childhoods, but the difference between them is that Harry always chose to value people and love. I'm sure as a Slytherin, he would have been a little more street smart and just the slightest bit manipulative, but he would have still done it all for the right reasons, and Ron and Hermione would still be his best friends. Though he definitely would have more Slytherin friends than mentioned here.

      @@jamma.77 Why would Trelawney’s prophecy be any different? We know that the original one about Harry and Voldemort is the same in this story, so why does this prophecy need to be any different? We don’t know whether prophecies are static in the Harry Potter verse. It makes as much sense to say that this always would’ve been the prophecy as it does to say that it should’ve changed.
      Besides, this makes for a better story tbh. He’s keeping most of the canon elements and only shifting things to account for Harry being a Slytherin instead of a Gryffindor. Changing prophecies to fit his own narrative would pretty much just be shaping his own story.
      Besides, the chain of events still fit perfectly. Peter is still hiding as Scabbers, still knows that Voldemort is alive due to listening in to the Golden Trio’s conversations, and still gets chased down by Sirius Black in Book 3. Why should the prophecy be any different at all? All of the conditions are still the same.

      @@Doomzdeh Yeah, but Lupin didn't get the map and therefore took his potion that night instead of going to the shrieking shack, so his transformation doesn't allow Pettigrew to escape and they get him all the way up to the castle in this version of the story - that's a pretty big change that should've mattered to how things played out. TBH, it's more the attitude that I have an issue with here - J just says that "the prophecy is the same no matter what" while simultaneously acknowledging that we're dealing with different scenarios (Harry still has the map, Lupin's not dangerous, Peter gets brought into the castle, etc.), but still has to engineer an outcome from those changes that's functionally the same as the original book. Plus, Dumbledore says in book 6 that prophecies aren't a "this must happen" deal, so the fact that there's a lot less circumstances stacked against Harry that night should've equalled a better or at least different outcome.

    If Harry and Ron didn't go help Hermione with the mountain troll, that's 5 fewer points each but also 5 she doesn't lose covering for them - 475 to 474. So I've noticed some things that may not make sense:
    1. In the first year, the slytherins did not need a seeker, so there is no reason for Harry to get a spot unless the old seeker got thrown off the team.
    2. The griffindors needed a seeker, that's why Harry got the position In the first place, so according to the video there is either an unnamed seeker or no seeker, and in that case Ron would not be needed on the team in the second year unless he is better than thier current unknown seeker.
    3. Ron and hermione weren't friends till they saved her, so I don't see why she'd be sitting next to Ron to realise Harry was acting weird when she would probably be watching her own team.
    4. In your dumbledores big plan video, you said that dumbledore probably told hagrid to make sure to tell Harry about voldemort and his parents so he doesn't end up in slytherin, so this theory contradicts your other theory.
    5. this has nothing to do with the theory really, but I've noticed you say this alot so: a person who speaks parseltounge is called a parselmouth. Parseltounge is the language and parselmouth is the speaker. You refer to it as "he speaks parselmouth" when it should be "he speaks parseltounge" its a small thing that doesn't make much of a difference tho. also please don't pronounce accio as A-see-yo. the double cc makes a K sound so it should be A-Ke-yo, but ofc you can say what you like I'm not in a position to tell you to change.
    6. In goblet of fire, I don't think it matters or not if Harry was in divination, he fell asleep and saw the vision as it was happening, so either he doesn't see it at all this time, or sees it at the same time as always but in a different area. I don't think it would matter where he sees it.
    That's it really.
    Also I don't mean any hate in any way by writing this, I'm just pointing out things. The video is really great, I've watched it 5 times, which Is probably why I've noticed these.

    Another thing I'd like to point out about right at the very beginning is that in Madam Malkin's shop, Draco never finds out Harry's name. As soon as he finds out his name on the Hogwarts Express, he is very interested in him and becoming friends. Had he and Draco exchanged names in the first few lines of their first meeting at Madam Malkin's, he would have been very interested and tried to befriend him immediately. He probably would've introduced him to either Narcissa or Lucius (whomever he was with) as well. The Malfoys would have then been the people helping him get his school supplies in Diagon Alley, and may have even invited them to stay with him. If that was the case, he would've gone to the Hogwarts Express with them and never met the Weasleys or sat next to Ron on the train and became friends with him and thought that Draco was a rude elitist.
    This changes the entire course of this series as him and Draco could now be Friends instead of Rivals.

      Nah, they still wouldn’t get along. Harry isn’t going to put up with Draco’s elitism, spoiled behavior, and bullying. And Lucius and Narcissa aren’t going to be tampering down their prejudice just to play pretend for Harry.
      Draco could never have been Harry’s friend unless he learned to be a better person. He was always going to inevitably remind Harry of Dudley.

    This is the most well thought out analysis I’ve ever seen/read. People often assume Harry’s whole personality would be radically changed if he’d been placed in Slytherin, but it’s more that the circumstances would alter how events play out. I appreciate your conclusion that it all came down to those first conversations!

    There's another thing I'd like to point out about being sorted into Slytherin, is that Merlin (King Arthur and Camelot) was a Slytherin - and as far as I know, Merlin was a great and good wizard. So, maybe - more so than being potentially descant of Salazar - Harry could be a descendant of Merlin. At least, that's my head-cannon.

    One little detail I think you missed about the first flying lesson: it would still be McGonagall, not Snape, who witnesses Harry catch the Remembrall. But she obviously wouldn't go recommending Harry to Marcus Flint for the Slytherin team, as she is a Quidditch partisan. So I think she actually would punish Harry (probably just detention.) But word would still get back to Snape about Harry's incredible catch, so he would then pull Harry aside at the next Potions class and that's when it would all play out for him.

    My favorite part so far was the Basilisk strategy for the Second Task of the Tri-Wizard Tournament. That you somehow managed to build a logical and endearing scenario based on callbacks that are both from your modifications (the Basilisk becoming an ally, Harry wearing a Bubble-Head and therefore being able to cast spells) and from the unchanged part of the canon (the pipe network being connected to the lake, Harry having witnessed the use of Sonorus) is downright impressive.

    I would love an alt history theory ‘What if Harry became a dark wizard?” Where the only change to the story is Harry’s personality or what if Harry entered school being an angry child because of the Dursley’s abuse? I always thought it was weird that he somehow came out of the family all mature and well rounded. I grew up in an abusive family and my early childhood to my teen years I was angry and lashed out. Became a bully. It wasn’t until I became an adult that I actually learned from that experience and found Christ, matured and became well rounded. So what if Harry WAS the dark wizard the death eaters were hoping he’d be? He hated muggles because of how they treated him. And he essentially followed the same path as Voldemort. The only difference is he has the ability to love. Unlike Voldemort. I think he’d still be starved for friendship. And maybe would still be friends with ron and hermie. I think Ron’s parents would still adopt him as their own. And would understand his hatred of muggles based on how he was treated. So Ron would be pushed into befriending him. Plus I think he’s a follower anyway. And I think this would push him to stand up for himself a lot sooner. I could go on and on. I still think Harry would turn around as he got older as he finds out more about his parents. He’d want to be like them and would question his feelings and beliefs and eventually change them. I think Lucius wouldn’t give away the diary. Which would be a problem later.

    I didn't think of this when I was watching the videos one by one as they came out, but wouldn't it be possible that Harry defeating Voldemort again would be seen as Harry being an incredibly powerful wizard who they _absolutely_ want to support (even if they don't love that he seems to be friends with the "blood traitor" Weasleys and a m-word: Hermione) - like how Lucius supports Harry with the broom just to be seen as an ally.

  • @aon02b
    @aon02b ปีที่แล้ว +83

    Actually, in the first book when Harry's broom goes crazy during the match, Hermione specifically looks for Snape in the crowd because he has been showing such dislike for Harry. She even goes "I knew it" when she sees Snape muttering under his breath. So, if Snape hadn't been horrible to Harry, maybe Hermione wouldn't have been specifically looking for him in the crowd.
    And yes, maybe she'd still have spotted him, but there's also the possibility that she would've spotted Quirrell muttering and thus been on the track of the true culprit from the start.
    Or the more horrifying scenario where she wouldn't even be looking at the teachers because none of them had a motive to try to kill Harry, and this would have resulted in Harry dying in the first book. This would even work with the prophesy saying that Voldemort had to be the one to kill Harry because Quirrell was sharing his soul with Voldemort at the time.

    I honestly had the impression that at the end of the first year the students were only told about quirrel, not that voldie was attached to him, because that would mean he ain't dead, which students would have reported to their parents and we all saw what the ministry did when harry claimed he was back in fifth year. No people still believed he was dead until end of forth year at least. So the stud3nts would only know that harry killed quirrel in a fight over a powerful artifact. And a cunning, isolated harry might not have corrected them. I think many slytherins would see it as a confirmation of him beeing a dark wizard and only beeing close to the mudblood and blood traitor to get the attention off of him and bid his time.

    Just saying, there's no way Ron beats Harry in the Chamber of Secrets quidditch match. I think, famously, Slytherin always had a better team, but Harry made up the difference. In the canon timeline, Malfoy comes close to beating Harry but still can't do it. And when you look at it, Malfoy was clearly a better flyer than Ron, especially at that point (evidenced by Malfoy's skills in Philosopher's stone flying lessons)

    • @bryanlariviere5702

      I also do not think Ron would be a seeker anyway. He was not a chaser in the books and even told harry that his brothers made him play keeper, so that was his skill set. He may have made the team but as a second string keeper (Until year 5)
      This would in turn made him a better keeper since he would still be attending practice. GINNY was a second string seeker. However Harry was the exception to the rule of first years not being on the quidditch teams. So she would not be a seeker in her first year and only become seeker in her second.
      This would possibly leave Gryffindor far behind as their team is kind of missing a good seeker. Ron is not the right call and if it came down to it, he would never beat Harry.
      It is nice to have the story include Ron actually be formidable, but he would not be so it is a massive shift to his character.
      In addition, there were two reasons Ron jumped at the chance to join the team
      1) Harry was on the team
      2) Lavender would be a cheerleader for him.
      Both of which would not be a major thing since Lavender only gets with ron in the fifth year and with Harry being on the Slytherin team, Ron would not be playing with his best friend.
      Too many aspects with Ron playing seeker were changed. It is the only part of the story i do not like. (Well that and how long it is taking Draco and Harry to be friends. By the end of Year three they should have been very close. With all the dementor stuff Draco should have been buddy buddy with Harry.
      Harry also saved Draco's life, how can you still not like a guy who did that?

    • @Doomzdeh
      @Doomzdeh ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bryanlariviere5702 Tbh, I do think that Ron could be a good Seeker. He has the tall and lithe build that would make maneuvering on the broom quick and easy. He’s also somewhat practiced on a broom and a complete Quidditch nerd. It’s likely that he’d know at least some formidable tricks or strategies from watching so many games and reading so much history.
      Plus, Gryffindor doesn’t really have many choices for Seeker if Harry doesn’t become one. Cormac McLaggen seems to be the only other Gryffindor who both wants to be on the team by that point, has anyone semblance of skill to even be considered, and isn’t a 1st year by that time. Between him and Ron, I’d say that Wood would likely pick Ron, if only because Ron is a team player, isn’t so annoying and arrogant and disruptive, and has some average skill.

      It also serves to create a compelling arc for Draco, who is left hanging kinda shallow in the canonical story, and it definitely makes Ron and Hermione more involved characters in several of the story’s narratives.

They display many Slytherin qualities: they're manipulative, avaricious, criminalistic and don't always favor family members. (Ron was really upset that they gave Harry that map when they wouldn't give it to him, their own brother.) They probably only chose Gryffindor because they worried that their family would look at them askance if they were sorted into a house with such a bad reputation.

    Late watching but this is SO MUCH of a better story than the original. Harry being a leader and coming to terms with Slytherin and his own self-discovery vs the Slytherins just being a group of kind of villains, Draco’s arc of questioning his own beliefs from his family, Ron’s heroic actions and self-doubt being mixed with him being in the other house… all of it is so much better. It’s much more shades of grey vs the clear cut good and bad

    You know what's quite impressive? The fact that Sirius is strong enough to drag Ron like he does when he's clearly not been eating well. Ron, also probably weighs more than Sirius' dog form period. IDK how he would even have maintained the kind of muscle needed for the task, on top of Ron struggling against the him. I do appreciate that Cedric doesn't catch any strays in this version of the story.

    Ad much as I enjoyed the story, I think you leaned a bit too heavily on Harry's early friendship with Ron and Hermione during the first two years.
    Even if he was friendly, I would think Harry being a Slytherin would've been a much bigger obstacle for Ron to overcome than you portrayed.

    • @Doomzdeh
      @Doomzdeh ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I doubt it. You have to keep in mind that he is Harry Potter, and that means a lot to his generation, Slytherin or not. He’s seen as a hero; the one who vanquished Voldemort. And Ron still would’ve sat with him on the train and experienced Harry’s kindness.
      Ron has many flaws at the beginning of the series, but I doubt that he’d turn on Harry just for being a Slytherin. If anything, I’d wager that he would consider Harry one of the “good Slytherins” and maybe talk about how the Hat must’ve been wrong.
      Either way, it’s enough of a reason for Ron to keep his distance after the Sorting, but not enough for Ron to not talk to Harry once again when he sees that Harry is still the just and kind boy from the train after Harry stands up for Neville against Draco. I think he’d even come over to see Harry at dinner or something just to rave about how heroic it was and then rant to Harry about how it’s so cool that he’s a Seeker now. They’d still bond over Quidditch, I think.
      Overall, the most flimsy part is Hermione’s involvement. Would she even be watching Snape at the first Quidditch Game? She did so in canon because she saw firsthand how much Snape despised Harry during classes, but Snape seemingly is a bit more subtle this time around. It’s possible that Hermione would still suspect Snape (only an adult could perform the hex so seamlessly, she would think, and Snape is the nastiest teacher there), but it’s also possible that she sees Quirrell first because there is less of a reason to immediately suspect Snape. And yeah, Hermione would still be looking for the culprit during the game, because she prides herself on her knowledge and because she wants to help save Harry, the kind boy who stood up for Neville and is kind of like an outcast in his house as she is in Gryffindor.
      Ultimately, Hermione always could be convinced by Quirrell that he was performing the counter-hex if she confronted him. She would then turn her suspicions onto Snape, and the Golden Trio would take action just like in canon. The only difference is that Quirrell’s reveal becomes a bit more guessable than in canon.

    The amount of time you spend on the commmon room and dormitorys would make harry and dracos relation not to be enemys nor friends, just people they have to deal with each other. And its more probable that he make best friends with non mean slytherins roomates than with other houses because its way harder to spend time together with them. So I think Slytherin Harry would probably spend more time with Daphne Greengrass.

    I can't be the only one who grew up on forums as the books were still getting released and reading countless fanfics exactly like this (yeah they usually ended up being drarry fics though lol).
    Theorizing about what if Harry had been sorted into Slytherin were certainly among the most popular from the very beginning.
    I can't believe I've spent 20 years on this topic and still find it just as interesting 😄

    One of my favorite "what if" fics otherwise known as AUs or Alternate Universe are Slytherin!Harry fics. But a LOT of those fics have a TON of OOC Harry or Snape in them, big time OOC Draco too. So it's hard to find the really good stuff. I'm not ashamed to say that the ones I do have saved and downloaded, I've read HUNDREDS of times over. Cause WOW it's so fascinating to see what would play out for his relationships with both students and teachers. Especially, one certain Potions Master.

      OOC characters like Snape suddenly becoming Harry’s father figure or whatever always pisses me off just because his robes are green instead of red. Snape didn’t hate him because of his house, but because of his likeness to his father and reminder that he “lost” Lily.

      @@starlightbutthealt8991 I don't mind mentor/father figure Snape as LONG as they keep to his personality. I can see Severus looking out for Harry, but doing so in his own....aloof type way. Not SUDDENLY coming to care for him out of the blue. It needs to be built over the course of the story I feel. That's why I love the fics that either have Harry in detention with Snape, or in his house, because he's then forced to realize Harry ISN'T his father.
      That's the whole idea and theme really of Harry Potter, that Harry's generation is the better versions of the past. Luna is the better version of Snape, the outcast who found friends, Harry is the better version of his father, Hermione the better Lupin etc. It shows that the next generation doesn't have to continue the cycle setup by the previous ones before it.
      Fics that dive into Harry's relationship with Severus, the good ones, explore that dynamic by forcing Snape to see Harry for who HE is. Not who SEVERUS sees him as. And WOW it's so fascinating to read Snape just kinda work his way around his emotions. Oh that's a good one. Another good one I like that isn't Slytherin!Harry, but Harry and Snape just TALKING is "Why?" where Snape explains to Harry why he got Lupin sacked because let's be real we all know it was Snape who ratted him out. But Snape's explanation forces the readers to go "oh sht he kinda right though" lol. I think that's part of why I love Severus' character so much. He's pragmatic. Almost to a fault sometimes.

    fun fact: People in the world of harry potter and irl tend to forget that Slytherin's personality trait is ambition, like gryffindor is bravery. It's this ambition that causes people like tom riddle to become dark wizards, they were never satisfied with what they achieved so they kept searching and hoping for more, in a way, the Harry Potter series is a lesson about being grateful for what you have, because even the greatest of moral ambition can lead down a dark path

    I love what this theory does for Harry and Ron’s friendship- being in Gryffindor, Ron is more in Harry’s shadow and becomes somewhat resentful. In this theory, Ron is able to naturally shine more. I also love Malfoy’s story line so much more in this theory, it’s so much more interesting.

    Wow I love the character arc you gave Draco, it makes him much more like able. It also gives his character more depth and gray area, the initial black and whiteness of his moral code has honestly always annoyed me.
