Elijah is probably your best hire, not because he's useful, but because the comedy around his failures is entertaining, definitely keep him around, also don't teach him anything just keep expecting him to know.
He’s our Everyman. When the “smart ones” (with Linus and the crew, that’s a subjective term /j), it feels so vague and wizardry when something fails. With Elijah, we’re on the in-joke.
As an electrical safety manager, you really should use romex and not an extension cord to permanently wire that TV. It will probably be fine, but extension cords are not meant for permanent installations. The cord jacket gets brittle and cracks when they haven't been moved in some time. Creating a potential fire hazard. But like I said, it's probably fine for now, but if you're going to have that TV there for years, you should definitely change it out.
My thought process... why are they cutting the end off an extension cord (changing plugs to get rid of the double maybe?) ... why are they talking about wall conduit ... oh no just call an electrician and have a proper outlet installed nearby.
How often does this "brittle jacket" come up? I can't say I've ever seen a regular orange cord have any issues from just sitting around. I've got cords that sat unuse3d for 20 years that I use regularly now... hell, I have one that I know wasn't touched, hanging on the wall in my grandparents basement since my dad moved out , hung there for 45 years and still is good as new. I have seen it on black, commercial grade cable meant for permanent instillation, when changing out hanging light fixtures, the jacket just crumbling apart on maybe 20 year old cable, but on an orange cord? never.
Elijah is such a trooper, love seeing him try and learn. At this rate he is going to be a pro in no time. I hope you get to see this, keep it up Elijah, you are doing great!
IIRC for running power cables for code, if it is behind a wall it needs to be romex, if its going through conduit it usually needs to be non jacketed, so like THHN/THWN wire. That said you can do what you want, it should work as long as the amperage is not to high for the conductor size and distance, just note if their is a fire caused by it your insurance will probably not cover it, also if you sell the house you would want to remove it before inspection.
