  • Here's another (for entertainment purposes only!) step by step how to DIY video guide . . . I should say how to DIM (do it myself) on how I, Izzy, "World Renowned" (self proclaimed) by unanimous decision, "Undisputed #1 DIY Guru" (judges are still out on that one) removed and replaced the Fuel Pressure Regulator and fixed engine performance, economy, and fuel trim issues, on this 2002 Chevy Venture mini van with a 3.4 Liter (litre) 3400 v6 engine and also on GM 3.1 Liter 3100 v6 engines, and like on most cars, trucks, vans, and SUV's. And PLEASE . . . "Do as I say and not as I do" . . . . don't hassle with it!, and take it to a professional!
    Remember folks, I am what you would call a "trained professional", so, DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME! . . . Doing so may place you at GREAT PERIL, & know that if you do . . . . you are doing so at YOUR OWN RISK! . . . . Thanks for this tip and tool. I needed to replace my regulator and wasn't looking forward to having to pull the upper intake plenum and fuel rail. At first I couldn't get the regulator to come up as high as you do in this video. My fuel lines are clipped together with a metal clip that's bolted to the engine so I was thinking there's no way it will come up, but with some wiggling it finally did. Then I could just barely get my wrenches on there to do the work. Perfect!

      I do have one question for you. I noticed the silver bracket on the fuel rail that the silver screw goes into seems to have a rubber gasket attached to it in your video, but I didn't have that on my car. Did I loose something?

    • @justinmimel
      @justinmimel 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Never mind. I thought it was a rubber spacer, but I can see now that its actually just part of the metal piece itself.

    • @Doc62J
      @Doc62J 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Did mine on my 2004 Pontiac Montana with same engine.
      I had to back off the bolt that holds part of air intake to the intake plennum. The end of the bolt protruded enough to block the regulator from coming out. PITA because I could only turn it 1/8 turn at a time. My ratcheting box end wouldn't fit.
      Glad you mentioned vacuum hose fitting not being snug. I ran down to parts store and got an assortment for $5. Pulled off the old one and new one fit perfectly.
      I had the nut on the fuel line slide down aways, another PITA to slide it back up.
      But in all this is a very helpful video.
      Good job!

    Great video Izzy. I think this is what's wrong with my 2004 Pontiac Montana. I had a random misfire and then a crank no start condition. I checked ignition, crank sensor, coils all good. When I checked fuel pressure all I got was 37 to 42 PSI on key on but drop pressure immediately so I knew the fuel rails not keeping pressure. So injectors not getting fuel to atomize the cylinders *no start contion. I then smelled fuel so I was looking for a leak I didn't find any leaks at the fuel regulator but when I checked botton of engine I saw a stream of fuel coming out of the exhaust resonator NOT GOOD!!! So I suspect fuel regulator is culprit allowing raw fuel to run into intake and then pushed through exhaust. Could this be a possible diagnosis?

    • @IZZYsGARAGEhow2DIY
      @IZZYsGARAGEhow2DIY  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Two ways raw fuel can find its way into the intake: 1- A ruptured fuel regulator vacuum diaphragm. 2- Leaky fuel injectors. To test the diaphragm, pull out the vacuum hose and look for fuel, there shouldn't be any. You can also use a vacuum pump to test the diaphragm. It should hold a vacuum. If the injectors are leaking, that could make it hard to start specially when the engine is hot do to the excess fuel in the intake. To do a proper diagnosis on the fuel system you will need a fuel pressure tester and maybe an injector pulser. Good luck, hope it helps!

    Thank you, Izzy. Nice sound quality, too. Just asking, but, "in the field" fix advice, what would you do when the replacement part doesn't fit that vacuum hose (more expensive!) and the parts store is closed (and it's 20+ miles away) and you need your car to work? Do you wrap some high temp tape to make the fitting grab better? put a really thin hose sleeve over the new part? get a hose adapter? :-) Best wishes.

    • @IZZYsGARAGEhow2DIY
      @IZZYsGARAGEhow2DIY  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Electrical tape over the fitting could be a quick fix. I have used a zip tie in the past to fix a lose fitting hose. When you make it to the store, the "HELP" section should have a fitting that should fit. Good luck, and thanks for the feedback!

    • @IZZYsGARAGEhow2DIY
      @IZZYsGARAGEhow2DIY  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      None of the components you mentioned have anything to do with the idle speed. You need to do a proper diagnosis instead of replacing parts. The ECU regulates the idle speed in late model cars. There are other components that can affect the idle speed like the idle air control valve and others than when malfunctioning can fool the computer or make it react to to the malfunction in an effort to mitigate the problem.

    • @IZZYsGARAGEhow2DIY
      @IZZYsGARAGEhow2DIY  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This really depends on the car. The fuel tubes are usually fairly flexible in the way they are mounted. These are also normally guided in the intended direction with plastic or metal clips somewhere along their trajectory. Try to carefully detach the tubes from the clips and see if you can get the clearance.

    • @robertrine1522
      @robertrine1522 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      on my motor everything is really small tight quarters and cant see or find clips holding the metal tubing, i tried for a good 10 minites wiggling regulator and didnt gain any clearance, clips have to be down in an area to where they are unable to reach, i came to conclusion i will have to remove mass air intake and boot and the throttle assembly and brackets to get to the nut on the bottom of regulator

      There are 3 fluids that can find there way into the combustion chamber. The first one belongs there, (which is fuel) but when in excess (too rich a mixture) will cause BLACK smoke from un-burned hydrocarbons. The second is oil, will will produce a BLUISH smoke, due to oil going past the rings or past worn valve guide seals. The third is coolant/antifreeze, which will produce what looks like WHITE smoke, but is really STEAM from the coolant finding its way into the combustion chamber, usually due to a blown head gasket or cracked block and in some engines could be due to a blown intake manifold gasket, like on the GM 3800 engines.
