  • How to Easily test most PTO switches with a volt/ohm meter. Simple step by step. This particular switch is for a John Deere but the principal is the same for most of them. We show how easy it is to test your switch with a multi meter. Easy DIY

    Not only did I learn what blades go to what on a PTO switch, but you also taught me what the ohms setting is for!

      @@RaleysSmallEngines I tried it and some of the pins had a lot of resistance and some didn’t. I was using a harbor freight meter though. If they have a lot of resistance would that indicate a bad switch?

      @@Andrew_B89 Possibly corrosion inside the switch or contacts worn.

      @@RaleysSmallEngines ok. I’m trying to figure out why my pto won’t engage… stopped cutting suddenly while mowing I’m hoping it’s just the switch and not the pto

      @@Andrew_B89 Check for power going to PTO clutch. Someone must be in the seat, key on, pto switch on.

    So does this switch pass as a good switch? Mine never changed when switch was pulled or pushed

    • @RaleysSmallEngines
      @RaleysSmallEngines  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It should change from open or closed when pushed. If it does nothing on ohm meter it's bad

    I stalled my mower cutting along a wet bank when the wheel sank in the soft ground. Now, I can't start my Scag Turf Tiger without jumping it with a battery charger. It will run, and I can move the mower out of the garage and around the yard, but the blades won't engage when the switch is pulled out. I pulled my fuses yesterday, and they are OK. I've traced wires from the area where the key is turned where the blade engage switch is located to the frame and PTO in the back of the machine, and I can't find anything wrong with the wires. I pulled some of the plugs apart, and they are dirty, but everything was working prior to me stalling the mower. How do I go about diagnosing what's wrong with my mower. I'm trying to do this myself because anyone who does this professionally can't get it done for the next month, and my grass needs cut now. I'm planning on pulling my PTO switch now and testing it to see if that's the problem.

      Thanks for watching and commenting. The battery must have 12 volts in order for the charging system to work correctly. With machine running check charging system with a volt meter, it should be charging in the high 13 to low 14 volts. Charging system must be working correctly in order for the pto to work

    Skip video and read:
    My switch is a DELTA 6204 from a John Deere E140 mower.
    Bottom view, where x is missing TERMINAL
    1 2 3
    4 5 6
    7 x 9
    SWITCH OFF (pushed in), these SHOULD conduct.
    1-3 (My old BAD switch is burned open here)
    4-6
    7-9
    SWITCH ON (pulled out), these SHOULD conduct.
    2-3
    5-6
    ====================
    Period. End of story.
    Gawd, I hope this helps somebody.
