To me I love having evil or moraly grey protagonists because they're flawd and that makes the story much more interesting seeing how these evil protagonists learning more about life and finding a new side to them is really gripping
Lelouch is definetely not evil but an anti-hero and the Euphy thing was not his fault becuase he was ready to accept Euphy's plan but his geass went haywire.
For me my favorite will always be Moriarty from Moriarty the patriot. He wants to change the world, he knows what he does it's evil, but he knows it's the only way to actually make a change and in the end even sacrifices himself to end more of the pain coming and the class system that fucked so many people including him in his childhood
If I was a villain I would be one disguised as a hero. Homelander from the boys and Omni-man from Invincible are good examples. I would not be a Gothic emo villain like Midnight from Fairy Tail that would be too obvious.

If you call him a maniac you didnt even understand the ending of Attack on Titan. In my eyes Eren was not evil in the last season. I liked Moriarty in the first season but in the second it felt like the characterization took a dive worse than Lelouch
