I wish I'd thought of this but I heard a good response: “I’m just more of a listener, but I know that makes some people uncomfortable. Does it make you uncomfortable?” This answer emphasizes that I am listening while putting the questioner on the spot like they just did to me. And it de-escalates the conversation stakes as they try to protest, "Oh, no, how very comfortable!" they are.
I've been known to respond that I haven't got anything to say right now. I also have to use my second language at work, so by the time I've listened, translated, and decided what I think, then formed a sentence, it's usually too late.
Why should we even have to explain, even if it is just with a statement of fact that we're an introvert. The question is rude, on a par, in my opinion, with asking someone "why are you fat?"
Maybe the reason some people ask that is because they want to give the person a chance to explain instead of assuming that they're rude and stand-offish.
People around me know that I like to daydream and create stories in my head. So I'm usually saying things like "oh, I'm daydreaming" or "Oh, I'm thinking about a story" or "oh, I'm trying to create a character." Or sometimes I just say "I'm enjoying the conversation." meaning that I enjoy the others talking and listening in on them.
Telling people youre an introvert doesnt always work because theyll just say "so am I but I still talk to people." Then youre not really an introvert, are you?
One of my favourite tweets that I saw was "imagine asking an extrovert why do you talk so much?" 😅
that's exactly what i say to any extrovert asking me why am i so quiet... in all of my imaginary confrontations with one
@@remina8205 😆
Hahahaha exactly.
Them: “why are you so quiet?”
Me: “why are you so loud?”
Problem solved.

Why don't they talk LESS? Why do WE have to change? 🤔
The question: Why are you so quiet?
The answer: Just so you could ask.

I always say that, "I'm an introvert!" Plain and decisive 👊
Because every time I try to say something I am either ignored ridiculed or interrupted
i just say "im just listening" which is true lol
