My response is usually this: “I don’t talk unless I want to.”😆😄Or if they’re extremely rude and loud, I’ll say, “I just don’t like loud people.” 😄😆Works every time. my best friend likes talking in social situations and I don't. I'm not good at talking to people at all, while she is so soooo good. But when we're alone I become way more talkative and we talk for hours, literally. Once we had a sleepover with another girl I didn't know that well. When she fell asleep me and my bff talked almost all night. And I'm not kidding, we talked for over 8 hours lol
As a fellow introvert, this was like a tips and tricks video to either get ppl to leave you alone or actually have meaningful conversation, since I, too, loathe small talk. When someone asks me this I usually don’t know if they mean why don’t I talk a lot or why do I not talk loud. If I assume they are asking the first one then I just say “I don’t have anything to say” or I say “What do you want me to say?” Then say something random. If they are wondering why I don’t talk a lot I say “It’s kinda hard to talk loud” which is true for me, it hurts my throat to talk loud.
It annoys me so much sometimes, because I choose to hide my emotions in front of people (kind of like poker face) and also dont talk to people when i’m cold, in a bad mood, dont like talking to them, or dont get a chance to say anything, but people just tell me that I have no emotions.
I'm definitely more of a people-watcher/listener. Not in a creepy way but in the sense that I don't feel the need to be actively involved in the conversation when I am in big groups. So I sit and listen to what the others are saying and I chip in if I have any thoughts on the topic. I find people really interesting so I just like to watch and listen. This works out perfectly because my best friend is very talkative and I can just sit and listen and nod at everything she says. It's very comfortable.
When people ask me why am so quiet I either shrug my shoulders or I say that it really doesn’t matter if I’m quiet or not because whenever I talk or have something to say people always talk over me or interrupt me as if my opinion doesn’t matter. I mainly stay silent because a lot of people like to interrupt or talk over me.

Now I am much more skilled in the art of being passive aggressive xD
I have selective mutism so most people ignore me now cause I never talk. I haven't been asked this question for a while but I always say idk because I get too nervous at the moment. Afterwards I think of all the good comebacks I could've said and wish I wasn't so nervous to say them lol

😹 I felt offended by the librarian comment. Like libraries are now daycares and there is no regulations on voice levels. I've had kids yelling and we can say lower your voice but beyond that can't do much. As a kid it was respective to be quiet in a library. Now your weird if your voice is lower than normal. 😹
There’s this one girl in a few of my classes and out of all the 4 years I’ve known her I’ve only heard her speak once. According to people who knew her in elementary school she talked all of 3rd grade but not in 4th grade so she’s quiet because something must’ve happened that caused her to be quiet
