I'll never forget that Christmas morning 1985 when my brother and I woke up to a CR125 waiting outside in the front lawn on Christmas morning... Our lives would never be the same since! From dawn to dusk we tore up that field behind my old man's condo. The divorce decree said we could only see him on Sunday mornings so we beg to every Friday afternoon for him to pick us up and then begged to stay on Sunday night. We went from an XR80 to a CR125 andlife couldn't be better!! Oh lying to my Mom coming home on Sunday afternoon with stitches in our leg because we didn't have the proper riding boots. That's CR125 shaped our lives forever. It taught us respect for authority and disrespect for the police for they could never catch Us. I thank my old man till this day for buying that bike for us for we used to fight over it fisticuffs my brother and I. Words can't describe the feeling we had every weekend kicking that bike over and letting it abused us. And as we got older and girl started becoming a priority life got rough. I've been searching ever since for a high like that and haven't found it. my God how I wish I could go back to that Christmas morning and do it all over again
You lucky buggers, my parents couldn't afford to buy me a second hand bike, can't complain though they bought me a new bmx and my mother was the best ever, she gave us four kids the best Christmas every year, my dad was a tight bugger but my mom always bought us presents 🙏
My favorite era 100%👍. Wardys factory 83 bike looks exactly like the 1985 production bike, so cool. Those Honda’s were just so trick. I really miss the exotic nature of works bikes, seeing so many cool things tried out.... so sad they’re gone, along with two strokes.
I remember the grunt sound of the factory Hondas. I raced Hondas and Yamahas from the late 70’s through the 80’s. I remember Daytona supercross in the late 80’s when Hannah beat Jeff Ward what a classic. Last lap with Wardy in the lead Hannah comes storming in to the corner and runs into Jeff. They both go down but Bob’s bike is on top. He jumps onto his bike and kick starts it and looks down at Jeff and pops the clutch wheeling off of him and on the way to the checker.
In those 3 years, 80-83, of this vid, you can see some of the best evolution of a machine, (that we ride on or in), that man has ever made. Not only is the frame geometry and 12" suspension travel being refined, but in those short three years, (as a whole), we saw bikes go from drum brakes to hydraulic disk, from air cooled to water cooled, from dual shocks to single shocks with linkage, and from normal forks to upside down forks. What an amazing spectacle of human engineering and achievement it was. Those advancements were as exciting for me to watch happen as the racing itself. If you like to make things, that era of MX was very inspiring. Thank you Mr. Lack.
Exactly what I was thinking my man! I did a painting in art class at high school of the 4 main factory bikes (Honda Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha) all with single rear shocks back in 1980. I had them all together doing some big air under lights that was inspired by the dirt bike magazines (and their spy photos) I used to read here in Australia. My art teacher bought it from me for $20 which was a lot of money to me back then. I wish I never sold it though!

I was at the race in Lakewood and I remember Chuck Sun’s bike on its side, in the dirt by their team van, being worked on by the mechanic and Chuck sitting nearby and chilling. Times have sure changed for the factory guys since then.
I collect BMX & MX bikes from this era.. At 3:15 in the background I've got the BMX that is in the background, It's a Mongoose Kos Kruiser. It's one of a couple in my collection that I'll never sell. This was imo the best of MX and BMX , because of the works bikes and also the last of American made BMX bikes... I wish that I had a time machine !!!
You aren’t alone in the collections! Same here. BMX (some were mine back when)...MX (same as well, and MINT now that I’m older and have redone). Time machine? I’m not sure I’d come back. I may just stay there.
My mate has an RM250 that's pretty similar to that RH250. It was the race bike of a local rider owned by the Suzuki shop. Breathed on by a local tuner and only used for a few races. It's awesome. I think it's the last air-cooled 250. I've got a '76 Husky 250 WR in pieces. Might fix it one day.
Warren Reid's bike's look very trick for back in the day my favorite rider back then. That's why I bought Kawasaki back then and won a lot of races in the 250 A class and even raced against him at High Point in 81 I actually made the national and he gave me tires that day Thanx Warren

Started a new business which was a 12 hour 7 days a week to assure success job. After many years away from dirt bikes a friend came to my office with his new bike. All I could say was when did they turn the forks upside down?
Back in the late 80's i got hold of a ex works Maico 490 1983 it had a boost bottle on it witch fitted in the top of the rubber inlet ware the carb fitted and the boost bottle was in the air box olines rear shock the rear swing arm and round the head stock was reneforced the brake shoes had hundreds of little holes drilled in them so if if rained and got muddy and if muddy got in the drums it still works i couldn't give it away it the end i sold it for a couple of hundred pounds after i had the rear shock redone so ervey time i see a Maico i kick myself

2:50 Yamaha still hanging onto the idea of a single laydown shock....pure rubbish. They axed the old familiar monocross swingarm and instead have this "T assembly" actuating the shock which didnt do anything better or different. Even with those "trick looking" adjustable heim link connections. All show and no go. The shock will never deal with square edge hits in that arrangement. "Mono rock" suspension. Terrible.

Great video, all those riders were my idols, all the kids in my neighborhood were playing baseball or football, I was big into bmx and motocross.
