My cat is almost 20 years old, and ever since she was a tiny kitten, one of her favorite things has been to perch on my shoulder. When she was very little, whenever I would turn on the water at the kitchen sink, she would come from wherever she was in the house, climb up to my shoulder with her tiny claws in my clothes, and perch like a bird on my shoulder, staring at the miracle of the running water out of the tap. Now that she's elderly, she's content to just come up to me and wave her paws at me until I pick her up and drape her across my shoulder, where she will stick her nose directly in my ear and purr. It is the cutest thing.
my baby who just turned one will do this almost every night and morning while i'm washing my face and brushing my teeth. i've started putting a hoodie on in advance to keep him from scratching up my upper back lol
I have a shoulder cat as well... My main issue is when he jumps unto my shoulders while I'm making coffee in the morning, because that jolt when you're handling boiling water? Not quite safe, I guess... He's nearly 5, though, so perhaps 15 years from now I'll be lifting him unto my shoulders before putting the kettle on. (He also likes to nap on my shoulders for hours on end when I'm working at the computer. I guess that's more practical than when he wants to sit on the keyboard.)
The love you eyes work. My mom's cat was one that never got close to anyone. I did the slow blink twice, turning my head away and slight head bow on the second blink opening my eyes looking away from her. She went from greeting me with a hiss, to rubbing her head against me. This was the first time I pet her in the 10 years I've known her. As she walked away I stopped petting, then she returned for more. This went on for 15ish minutes. It was special.
We just adopted a 9 year old cat and he's been distant and not eating. Tonight when he was about to sleep we asked him if we could pet him and waited for his response. We walked closer and raised our hands and he came to us. He proceeded to walk to the couch and knead our bellies for 5 minutes each, eat the food he hasn't touched since he's been here, and climb the cat tower he hasn't been on.
Depending on his history like if he was with the same family definitely makes. The boy was given up at least once. He doesn't have a clue what happened or why. How scary and sad. The blink works. I used it a lot before I retired from owning a pet sitting service for over 20 yrs. Congratulations on communicating with your kitty. It just takes patience and learning how to communicate with animals. Just remember with all new cats, it is kitten steps. Way to go!
@Sparrow When I moved, I used all of the empty boxes to make a kitty condo for my sister's three cats. They loved it but after a long time one of the cats claimed it for herself lol
I kid you not my cat doesn't say "👁️❤️ you" he literally says "👁️ ❤️💕✨💞💖💝❤️💖❣️✨💖💝💕💞❤️💖✨💘💞💗❣️💖💘✨💝❤️💖 You" It's a loooooooooooooooooooong slow blink and every time I want to just cry because he's just the best
@@powdersoft Definitely true -- my cat slow blinks in return all the time. Usually he is watching me and as soon as I "slow blink" at him he quickly returns the same to me. Jackson is completely on the mark.
My current long term partner hung out with his exes cat more than his ex for the last couple years and got used to doing the slow blink so much that in the beginning of our relationship he kept slow blinking at me without even realizing it. Now we do it to eachother as a little secret 'I love you' when we're around people. XD
Oh, how I miss my baby. She passed away a few days ago, she was so loving. Always with me, sitting on my lap, watching tv with me, and her constant kisses. She adopted me. I feel as if I lost my very best friend.
So very sorry for your loss. When the time is right consider adopting another cat, not to replace her but to honor her..She wouldnt want you to be sad, and knows you have enough love in your heart to give another cat a home and all the attention just like you did her..
I totally understand. I lost my Killroy 7 years ago, and I still miss him. 😭 I know he'll be in heaven with me. The lion will lay with the lamb, and my Killroy will lay with me. ♥️🥰
You did my friend, I'm so sorry for that. I know it's a love like no other. You'll see her/him again when time passes on you. I truly believe it. I've lost 3 or 4 of mine and I know how strong that love is.
All these comments sympathizing with you and your loss.......I'm so sorry too! I lost my Gucci the day after Labor Day this year. He was so loving and adventurous. There are tears in my eyes for you. I just adopted another kitten Oct 30th and it was the best thing I did. But grieve as long as you need.....I still miss my Gucci with all my heart.
Took my daughter's grumpy cat to the vet. During the exam, the vet pried her lips open. You didn't have to be a vet to see the problem with the red and inflamed gums. Ended up pulling 3 teeth. Changed the cat's personality completely. I felt horrible that it had been allowed to get so bad.
Behavioral problems in cats can easily be a direct result of physical syhical issues... From pain to a dirty litter box or not enough play. I hate to think of how many owners gave up their pets with behavioral issues due to an possibly easy to solve physical issue.
Try putting organic cold pressed Apple cider vinegar in her water. It's anti fungal, bacterial and viral. Helps prevent urine crystals and helps with parasites. It's a miracle.
My cat spent 14 months at a cat cafe, he had his fill of other cats. I'm retired so he has me home a lot. He's a happy boy, every time he walks past me he runs against me and sits down so I can pet him.
I'm glad he got adopted! There was a cat at the cat cafe I went to that had been there nearly a year. I think the pandemic helped him find a forever home.
@@ayesha36 He's the sweetest boy ever, he'll be 3 in April, I think he got passed over the because he was waiting for me. I hope he only remembers being with me 🥰😻
@@susanscott3333 my cat wasn't in a cat cafe, but was in foster care for over 18 months, long after his siblings were adopted. I'm not too sure why he wasn't adopted but I would like to think it was because we were meant to be together!
Even our little semi-feral kitty "watches TV" with us. She comes down in the evening and lays on the rug in the middle of the floor every single time we watch TV.
I adopted my sweet girl Tori almost five years ago now. Local rescue having adoption event at petstore, wasn’t going in to adopt but when I heard her story I knew I had to! She was 4 years old, no one wanted her because she has dust allergies and sneezed a lot. So as soon as I heard that, I knew I was there for a reason and adopted her the next day. When I brought her home, she laid down and flopped right next to me as I was sitting on my bed. For the first year or so, she didn’t sit in my lap, but she would sleep next to me and in her window seat near my bed. But then one day, I was watching the movie Inside Out, and of course I was bawling like a baby at the end. Tori saw me crying and jumped right into my lap and started purring. I was so overjoyed that I cried even more, and she just loafed in my lap and comforted me. 😭💜 now, at our almost 5-year adoptiversary, she lays on my chest whenever I lay down on the couch (me rn as I watch this haha), with her head as close to mine as possible. She is the sweetest baby and I love her so much, snotty nose and all :’D
My girl adopted me 2 weeks after the passing of my wife. I did find her owners gave her back. She came back 3 days later. Talk to her owners said she is not doing well with the new cat . She's been with me almost 3 years now. She is close at hand when I am having my Emotional melt downs .Dealing with grief. She has been a God sent during this plandemic. A true service animal very loyal A real comfort. P.S. was Not a cat guy at all....
I was lying in bed with my 3month old kitten and I did the slow blink to her and ever since she's been sooo affectionate and loving💕 she knows I love her🥰
I just gotta say that I finally tried the slow blink to my cat and I am so surprised and happy at his response! He slowly blinked back at me and then came over to me and allowed me to kiss him on his forehead, nudged me, and then he layed down next to me! Jackson galaxy you are a truly, kind representative for cats! Aww how nice!
Ever since covid started, I let my cat sleep on a chair beside me while I work. She loves it. She also sleeps when I sleep. She wants me to face her while she sleeps
One of my cats loves watching me cook and is always getting under my feet or trying to stretch up to see the counter. So I just put a chair out for her and she sits on it and just watches contentedly!
@@bobbyed5383 wow, this is a huge issue for me and my persian kitty - He is super playful, friendly and curious in the kitchen (cause there's food!), and i'm constantly worried i'll tread on him or trip, but your suggestion is so simple and elegant - A cat stool or chair is a perfect idea. Particularly for a small space. Thanks :D
Hahaha! My girl Inkling knew her song from day one! I'd sing "skinamarink a dink a dink, skinamarink a do, I love you"....and she'd come running. She knew her name and shared my life for over 22 years...I sang her song as she passed over the Rainbow Bridge.
I have a stray cat that adopted me couple of months ago. I noticed her hanging out on my front porch every day for about a week and thought she was one of the feral black cats in my neighborhood I had been trying to befriend. One day, working out in my garage I saw her and decided to try approaching her. To my surprise, she didn’t bolt off, but instead raised her tail straight up in the air and came right to me. I started giving her food and water (I’m a sucker for hard luck cases) I coaxed her around to my back patio and now she’s my patio cat, and since I live in Florida, I don’t worry about it getting to cold. Hubby won’t allow a box in the house and I don’t want one either. She had a rough time of it, her claws were horribly broken and she was quite skinny. I think she was abandoned. She’s in much better shape now and very sweet. One thing about her I find strange is she doesn’t like to play, as if she never learned how too. She’s not interested in birds. She doesn’t stalk anything, just lays around. But she’s a perfect companion for me and I just enjoy having her nearby. Now she has a cat tree and a box and furniture to lounge on with plenty of food and fresh water. She’s all black, and I love the black cats the most since they have such a bad rap throughout history. I named her Bast after the Egyptian cat god, because my hubby is Egyptian. She’s not my cat, I am her person. She chose me and I feel honoured. Thanks for all the insight Jackson.
My black cat adopted me too. It appeared in my garden trying to sleep on the lawn while being covered in snow. I made a box for him and put it under my porch for protection from the weather. I included a memory foam mattress to make it comfy. It moved in immediately and never left. I fed it for a year while dealing with its horrifically matted fur. But then it had to become a house cat after going to the vets. So now ive got a fully grown male cat who has taken over my life. It doesnt play or use climbing frames or scratching posts or toys (though i provided everything). But it does rub itself against me and want to sleep beside me, and checks out where i am all the time.
Thank you Jackson for the "ask permission to pet" advice!!! So many times I've gone to pet my George and he shrinks out of the way. I tried asking permission by offering my finger, and it made all the difference. Now I'm so much more aware of petting him on his terms and when I do pet him, it's much more welcome. Again, thank you!
Staring is bad. I've got a boy who only wants petting when it's dark in the bedroom and I don't look at him. The fingers wag and he will brush against me.
I learned long ago to wait for my cats to let me know if they want loving. Of course, they tend to follow me everywhere. The box is in my bathroom so when I go in there to do my business, they did, too. My calico would sit by the tub and wait for me when I showered.
I grew up with dogs... Now I'm dating cat girl. You have been such a big help for me learning how cats work vs dogs. Just added one to the pack that we found when we were out for brunch on a Sunday, and he is my new best friend. Still learning cat talk, and you have helped very much. Our senior kitty is very happy to have a young runt to hang out with.
The "I love you" blink is something I've done with my cats for ages. The first time I did it with my Siamese rescue, he looked so surprised and did it back after he got over his shock. 😂 He always had given the I love to blink to me.
Jackson I would like to thank you years ago. I found out about your channel because I was trying to save a little cat a little kitten. She was chasing her mother who didn't want to breastfeed her anymore because she was big a little bigger and they were probably abandoned by someone nearby my house. And that little cat was struggling to survive its was summer here in Brazil, but it was a little unusually cold And I would put food on the top wall of our back yard and this little kitten would come and she wouldn't eat unless I would get away. And then she would go back to the darkness to the woods to rain and every night was like that hearing her meowing in the cold rain chasing her mother and being beaten by her. And As Time passed I things did not evolved much But she would feel a little bit more confident confident to come to eat. I had other cats and I had dogs. But every night was the same thing, I would go to bed knowing that she was out there in the in the woods getting wet And I built a shelter for her in the backyard and she didn't come but eventually she would come down and get in the backyard. But she apparently she was abused by humans because she would come she didn't show much fear towards my other cats and my dogs, but with me she wouldn't approach. And and this kept going she would come and eat and disappear. And that was heartbreaking and I thought oh my God, what I'm gonna do? She's gonna die there because here in Brazil and summer is pours every day and night. And to me was painful, I mean, but to her it was terrible. The was a nightmare to she was in She was at most 3 months old or something. And then I looked on the internet and I found you. And I found ways through your videos how to communicate how to tell that little cat I'm not a threat And the the slow blink was one of the greatest tools that Ive learned. And slowly she would start approaching. In a matter of weeks and she would come to our or backyard to the laundry area. And then it started evolving, the fear she had about me and she would come and start eating at the same time be my other cats would eat. And slowly she started coming becoming part of the the family. Becoming courageous to come inside. And then I Would be able to pet her and she would feel safe. she would come and then she would go away and she'll come back. And then I took her to the vet and examined her and neutered her of course And through this process of that I learned with you of respecting, to contain our own anxIety and eagerness to show them love: "Hey, I love you. I'm not a threat, I want to take care of you. I want to pet you. I feel I desire so much to pet you to make you feel loved and safe". That's not how it works Understanding that was the way. Learning from you Through that , Me and her ( I named her Selina. ). we started developing extremely rewarding relationship And to the point that she became the closest to me. I had four cats at a time. But Selina and I became best friends. I never had reciprocity. I don't want to sound melodramatic. I'm sorry for that but I have never experienced emotional reciprocity in my life. I'm now I am 41 and at the time I met Selina it was like five years ago. And I never had that . Reciprocity, this relationship of trust and love when you are looking into someone else's eyes or someone to look into my eye and tell me "I love you, I trust you, I care about you, you can count on me and I know that you love me and I know that I can count on you." I never experienced that in my life, and I experienced that with Selina. She would come and go, we live in a house so they come and go. And she would come and when she arrived if I my tap my my chest she would come and jump on my arms and greet me with meow and slow blink It was a amazing relationship that changed my life profoundly. And unfortunately one year later she was poisoned. Someone poisoned her with rat poison. I found her in the morning. she was throwing up with a little blood and I rushed to the vet. And the vet was honestly was, she told me Selina was not well. And About four hours later this fight of the treatment. She had many internal hemorrhages. And that lost her. And I feel like I experienced the pain. I never experienced. And It was so profound. I I really believed I really talked to her after I burried her After she passed I was in the backyard when I buried her and I talked to her. I told her thank you. And I really felt and I really feel in my heart that we're gonna meet again. Because its was so pure. I could see in her eyes. The love and gratitude That I always felt for her. And the trust and the fact that she knew that I loved her and she knew that she was safe and that I would protect her and care about her and love her forever. The moments we have like that looking into each other's eyes. And I truly hope that one day when I leave, when I pass, that I'm going to have the opportunity to meet her again. Even for a brief moment to look in her eyes, to hug her and then tell her thank you, how much I loved her and how grateful I am cause she crossed paths with me. That wouldn't have been possible wasn't for you, Jackson It's been. Five years that I thought about sending you a message to thank you. And I don't know why I didn't; maybe because it's it's a sad thing. I didn't know if wanted to share this sadness with with someone I feel so grateful, I am filled with gratitude. For you and for Selina. It was a honor and a blessing to have met her in this life. She deserved better. 😭😭😭😭 But my hope that despite the fact that she left this world in pain I was there. She knew that the person who loved her was with with her. Until the end I wanted to tell you. Thank you so much.!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 For for helping me for helping me save Selina. And despite of my pain Despite I felt the months after weeks a month. Broken Heart I learned I don't know how to express. In in the end of this painful experience My love and my compassion. It just became stronger. So That's it. If you have to read to this message, I'm sorry and I'm a very grateful. 💔💔❤️❤️🇧🇷🇧🇷😓😓😔😔💪💪✊✊😻😻😉😉🤗🤗 I have a my other cat's here. And I learned a lot. You I'm still trial. To learn But it's and I'm deeply grateful. Thank you.
So sorry for your loss. It sounds as if she knew how much you loved her. As much as we try we cannot protect them from everything. Sending my condolences
I can't have pets for medical reasons, but I recently signed up to sponsor a special needs cat and dog in my local animal shelter. I'd encourage everyone who can't adopt or foster a pet themselves to consider seeing if their local shelter has a sponsorship program. That could save a pet's life and give it a chance to find a fur-ever home. And if that's not saying "I love you", I don't know what is. 🙂
@@susanjsnook7826 Awww thanks! 🙂 I'm spreading the word because I get the impression that most people aren't aware of this option. I haven't seen it mentioned on TH-cam at all. Please pass it on if you can.
Update to my previous comment: I now sponsor 4 furbabies (3 special-needs cats and a dog with trust issues) at my local animal shelter, plus 2 reptiles (1 bearded dragon and 1 special-needs boa constrictor) at a reptile sanctuary. I couldn't stop at just 1 or 2! I've sent them extra treats, DIY toys, and more. I love my new sponsor family! 🤗🤗
My cat always stretches in front of me when I greet her in the morning and before she allows me to pick her up and give her morning love. She purrs like a Mac Truck idling on the side of the road. I love her and I know she loves me. Thanks for the knowledge and encouragement!
Im 33 and just got my first cat ever. I work at a hotel and it was abandoned there and i couldn't let my boss take it to the humain society so I took it home. I know nothing about the cat other than it needs to be neutered. So thanks for the content man, saving me right now lol
Simple solution treat it like a child love it like one too. It meows it needs something. Litter box, cat food/human food and entertainment is all it needs.
@@CreatureOTNight check out the list of human foods that are toxic to cats before feeding anything we would eat..you can find the list on this website.
Great advice, thank you. Slow blinks definitely work. We also have an understood language between us. He head-butts me when he wants attention (he sleeps on my desk when I'm working) and I kiss him between his ears when I want attention back. He reacts by stretching out his paw and putting it gently on my arm, as if to reassure me that he's there. It's a beautiful thing. He wasn't treated well by his last owner (they moved and left him behind!! What nasty gits) but he has settled in here and is the most affectionate chap. One of the best things that ever happened to me was when he decided to move in.
Hi Jackson. Greetings from Brisbane, Australia. I have had three consecutive cats over a period of 22 years, all rescue cats - a kitten (died at 16), an 11-year-old (died at 15) and now a seven-year-old Maine Coon with a couple of deformities. For the past five or six years I have implemented just about everything I have learned from your programs with great success. Thank you for what you do - please keep catifying the world!
My cat gives me hugs in the morning. Actual hugs. I’ll sit up, he’ll sit in my lap and purr like crazy and then he lifts himself up to put his arms around my neck and rub his face on mine. I also found this weird, he licks my face, especially my nose. There’s so much about him he’s got such a weird personality, and thanks to your videos I’ve been able to give him the best life, and only better from now on! He’s only a year old, but I’ve got 2 other 15 year old cats in my house and you are 100% correct about cats having friends. My cat, Joey, cuddles with Freddy (one of the 15 year olds) almost on a daily basis. I could go on forever, so I’ll stop there. Thank you for what you do!
Me and my cat figued out she LOVES playing hide-and-seek. Even me just hiding in a doorway and saying "boo" and she comes running to find me... she just seems to like it. 👍😂
LOL! I do the same with my cat he loves it! 😻 we call it "stalk and ambush" we'll take turns hiding and chasing each other around it's hilarious when he comes after me, he'll be bouncing on his back feet trying to catch me with his front paws! 😸
I had a cat that would play hide and boo with me. One of us jump out and surprise the other. He would rear up on his hind legs like a lion! We had great times. He was very stealthy!
They really are. Those who say negative things about cats most likely have not learned cat etiquette. Cats don't like to be rushed in their love. When rapport has been established between human and cat, and the cat trusts enough to receive and give love back, it's the beginning of a new loving friendship for life!
I adopted a homeless cat 6 weeks ago. He is still very shy and hide under my bed. But he always come and eat. I have his food and water a little bit from my bed. I love my cat and I know it is coming to take a long long time for him to feel safe ♥️Its an progress ❤️And I have all time in the world ♥️
You're right. It can take a lot of time. Last year, in winter I adopted a young cat that I rescued from the street. She was a shy, fearful and kind of "wild" little creature. It took her weeks to start feeling safe and confident enough to explore our home. And even longer to start really trusting me. Now, 1 year and a half later, she's the cuddliest, neediest kitty I have ever seen. She would spend her life on my lap if she could, sleeps against me at nigh and follows me everywhere. 🐱 She still hides whenever there is someone home though. But she has tons of comfy, safe, hiding spots so it's not a big deal.
I just adopted a geriatric cat (15 years+) today! She's my 3rd rescue cat. I find all your videos really helpful. I have only had her about 7 hours and she is really settling in well. She has a cat base camp in my bedroom with a low cat tree under the window, it has thick washable blankets, and a feliway plug in beside it. It has two large hidey places and a large padded platform which is big enough for her to really stretch out. She has a sturdy carpeted wooden ramp at a gentle incline up to my bed. She has two large open litter trays with the litter from her shelter pen mixed into clean litter. She has blankets and beds and treats from the shelter. She came with a lot of luggage as she was unfortunately returned last month. She has access to cardboard, sissal rope and carpeted scratchers. I have a washable waterproof mattress protector under my sheets just in case of accidents and a wet pet vac which you can get enzyme cleaners for. (I'm sure you well know that old cats can get sick/stressed and pee inappropriately but I do 6 monthly health checks which catches most issues before they get to that stage) I just love the senior and geriatric age stage, they do need more care but it's all so worth it! She's very friendly and affectionate, my friends can't wait to meet her!
Your new elderly cat is very fortunate to have you as their new companion. It sounds as if you have covered all bases! I hope you have many years together left ❤️ Thank you for sharing this.
I adopted my boy kitten with his brother over ten years ago. His brother passed away five years ago unexpectedly. After his brother’s death he was emotional, very vocal, and needy. So now I have a senior, and I adopted 3 brothers, 4 month old kittens. He has fully adapted, is 1000% less vocal or needy, and engaged with us as a family.
I had a cat who wanted nothing to do with other cats. He would just walk by, ignoring them. I saw him literally tiptoe out of a three-cat standoff, not my circus, not my kitties kind of thing. But cats who have always been with others can’t cope with the loneliness, poor things. They completely change when they have a buddy back, even if new guy hates ‘em!
I grew up with a brother sister pair of cats and the female disappeared during a storm one year and her brother was so depressed and followed me around everywhere. I couldn't go to bed without him or he'd cry outside my bedroom window. I'd call him from the deck and could hear him coming up the hill through the greenbelt/brush. He was by my side within minutes. He even started letting other people pet him. They were partially feral as kittens. It took me years to get them to let me pet them. I was only 11 at the time. He was a great cat. I wish I knew what happened to him. He disappeared. I still cry when I see his last picture that was taken the night before the last night I saw him. Even talking about him gets me emotional. Going to college and having to leave your pet behind bc the dorms don't allow pets sucks!
One thing that is functional for both cats and the people is to have super soft throw blankets and covers on all important pieces of furniture from beds, couches, and office chairs, any place both would hang out. It works as an extra piece of cat furniture while saving space, the furniture stays cleaner, lets both of you have multiple places to merge your scent which helps with behavioral issues, saves on your heating bill and just feels nice. Seriously, try keeping more blankets out, see what you think

Jackson thank you for everything you do to school humans on giving their cat(s) their best life. My sweet Daphne passed 10/6/22 just a few weeks after my mom passed. My dad has now passed 5/2/23 and I’m about to move into a new townhome and transition from live-in caretaker to a new life for myself I will definitely be getting a new kitty to love (2 if my budget permits). Daphne was a rescue who was 2 weeks from being euthanized. She had been brought back 3x cause she didn’t get along with other pets. When she saw me she made direct eye contact and started talking to me right away, jumped up on the bench right next to me and gave me several strong head butts and rubbing herself on my arm. I was the chosen one! We were together 16 of her 19 years and was the best kitty I could’ve had and I did my very best for her right to the end. I intend on adopting again and I’m sure Daphne will be sending me my next catpanion. 😻Sorry this is long, I just felt the need to tell you. Live long and prospurr Jackson!🖖
I don’t know if this counts as me showing my cat love in a way that he understands fully - but when I come home from work, whether is be a short 3 hour cover shift, or a 9 hour shift; when I come through the door, no matter where he is in the house, I call for him / he comes running to me and I make sure he is my absolute priority for the first few minuets of me coming home. Sometimes after 2 minutes he’s satisfied enough to then go and go settle back down or play or bird watch; others it’s closer to 15 minutes before he seems content. But no matter what I make sure my focus is on him. And ever since i started doing that vs 10 minutes after I’m home once I’ve put my groceries away or made myself a drink etc our bond is even stronger and I’m convinced it’s because in his mind I now seem just as excited to see him and he does me (which of course I always have been but that 10 minuet disconnect before I got round to petting him I feel may have been enough for that excitement of his to dwindle)
I do the same thing - before I leave the house I tell each cat goodbye and give them a pet, and any time I get home I’ll make sure to say hello to everybody.
I am going to try this, my baby girl is always so happy when I get home. I am sure this will make her even more happy to see me! She is absolutely the love of my life now that my husband is gone. Until I got her, last year for mother's day. My life was so empty. My baby girl has given me back a reason... I want to love her as much as possible.
Yeah, greeting them really seems to be a big deal! They really like it. I have the same coming home ritual with my boy! I get down on the ground with him & pet him to his heart's content. He loves it!
My friends always called me "the cat whisperer" because I've had them all my life and have raised some of the most social and affectionate kitters my friends have ever met. Changed a lot of minds on what a pet cat can be, even. And you know what? It wasn't until I started following Jackson Galaxy that I noticed how much more loving and fulfilled my relationship with my two current cats feels now. I didn't think of myself as a hot shot or anything like that, but it is very humbling all the same how much deeper a relationship with your pet can be when you actually take the time to learn how to communicate with them. Thank you, Jackson. Me, my partner, and our little calico twins love you 🥰
There was a cat at one of my neighbor's house that did not like more than a handful of people, and I used to be outside of that circle, but she needed someone to cat sit, so I stepped up. Determined to befriend him, I started to outwardly purr and slow blink so he could get used to me being there. Over the course of the week, I was able to start petting him and then scratching the side of his head. I think one time he was sad to see me leave. One of the BIGGEST things I did as well was to be really slow and patient. When I felt that the cat wanted to be left alone, I left. I always stuck my hand out, and made small noises just to let them know I was there so he would never be startled. It was so rewarding to have him like me 💗
@@ayesha36 I rolled my r's, basically putting the front part of my tongue close to the roof of my mouth and then push air out (like exhaling, just with a lot more "force"). When I do it for a kitty, I make a p sound and then do the thing listed above
Glad I am not the only human who attempts to purr for cats. I have had cats try to correct how & where my purrs begin... I had to apologize & say it was as close as i could manage.
My Siberian and I blinks a lot. She loves sitting and stare me down, and blinks when I talk to her. We go back and forth blinking for several minutes. Being a Siberian, she follows me around everywhere, and I am quite sure she thinks she is helping me with everything I am doing. Which she sort of does. 😁 Best regards from Norway
My Siberian cat follows me and tries to “help” with everything, too. When I crochet or draw, especially, she wants to help me hold the hook or the pencil. Are they all like that?
I cant get enough of this video. Its just glows with cat language, how to aproach them in their language, their world and waiting for their exeptance to aproach or not. Love it! Thank you so much. This reminds me of a comment someone made to me when it comes to growing into a relation with any creature.. "The route into exceptance is the one who is the slowest and is the only right & true way to go. Because nature sets the pace. Patience, love and reading bodylanguage is key".
The slow blink is so effective. On a trip to Cambodia there was this island with tons of stray cats on it. I came across one resting on a path who became alarmed when I walked towards it to go past. I slow blinked at it and looked away several times and it layed back down and went to sleep.
Hi, I just rescued 2 kittens. I signed the papers over a month ago but we brought them home only 4 days ago. I knew nothing about cats and I learned a ton watching your channel over the month of waiting. Everything went very well and all our family is so happy. It's really thanks to you that I was able to educate myself, you know so much and you are excellent teacher. Thank you so much!
I, thankfully, have always been pretty good at picking up when my cat is sick by the subtle changes in behavior. I had a cat Sebastian who had a then-undiagnosed liver issue. The only reason we were clued in to it was because I noticed he was suddenly struggling/reluctant to jump up onto the bookshelf, something he had never had problems with. Another cat of mine, Nina, had eaten some plastic; I noticed something was off when she was napping for hours out in the cold sunroom (it was early November) instead of in my warm bedroom where she would normally be. Cats are creatures of habit, right down to the smallest details, so if you notice ANY difference in behavior, it's worth investigating.
Hah I watched this video a few months ago, started doing the softening slow blink and my cat has no joke gone from never cuddling with me, to jumping up to snuggle in every time I’m watching shows. Also letting her show when she wants pats by lowering my hand but letting her make the move for pets, genius. Thanks Jackson, we’re so happy ❣️
I grew up with many cats and never had a problem with any cat, but I guess growing up with them, I learned to read them well and I've always known most of your suggestions to get along with cats. I had two favorites from my childhood. One was Whiskers who used to meet me every day at the school bus and jump onto me and ride around my shoulders until I got into the house. My father was a painter and he also draped himself around his shoulders while he worked. Any dog who wandered into the yard was chased off immediately by Whiskers. The other one came to us as a stray. I think he was a Russian Blue purebred and we named him Smokey. He most likely jumped out of a car and got himself lost in a strange environment. He loved to ride in the car. He was with us many years and when I went away for a week on my honeymoon, my mother could not get him to eat. He moped around until I came back and then promptly returned to his usual self and immediately ate when I fed him. He missed me. I almost forgot the third one Mikey, AKA Morris (orange tabby). He liked to sleep on your chest with his face next to his human. I'll have to stop now because I keep remembering other cats in my lifetime and I don't want to write a book.
My wife's cat had to be euthanized and the vet said there was a rescue cat at a different veterinarian 😂 so when we walked in, we heard🎉a yowl that might have peeled paint. The door to the tech room and an Orange STREAK arrived he was All over my wife and the most amazing purr both inhaled and exhaled announced he was our Guy we tried to do right by him and fed him a diet of protein rich kibble he had kidney failure and had to be euthanized. I miss him for the last ten years 😢
The permission was the key to pet our rescued and abandoned kitten. When we started to do this we earned his trust! With petting I would also say, let it be intentional, be in the moment and relax. Nothing too paced.. just..intentional :) My boy likes "smelling advenures": he does not like when I touch his back paws so I take him as I would a child, with feet hanging, and I let him smell vertical places, books: shelves, closets... he loves it! :)
l also had a cat who liked to be picked up and carried around to see things up high she normally couldn't see, She would PURRRR and lean forward to smell the bookcase shelves and top of things... So cute!
I had a siamese kitty who also loved being shown things she normally couldn't get to. She'd also purr loudly when being shown things up high. Oddly, it was the only time she liked being picked up.
I took in a stray and found out quickly she was pregnant . Have 2 little kittens . I never had cats but the joy they bring is unbelievable. They grow too fast though
I have feral cats in my backyard and they hangout in what used to be my barn, anyway I did the slow blink with one of them and she did it back. I was on cloud 9 !! Over the years I have been chosen by a few of them and that is such a phenomenal feeling to gain the trust of a wild animal. The first one that chose me disappeared 3 days ago. He was here for 13 years and even though there are still cats out there, my backyard seems so empty without Pretty Kitty out there.
Over time I've realized that my two 10 year old boys just love to be greeted whenever they enter a room. Especially after having been working from home for the past year, I can safely say they love to make an entrance. Verbal affirmation of their presence using cheerful tones/praise is matched by really demonstrative affection. Seems like it never grows old for them. Lol. Similarly, whenever I go outside, I'm frequently met with a little stampede of greetings at the door when I return home.
My cat only likes to be petted on the side of the neck. If she wants to be petted, she'll lean into it, and if she doesn't, she won't and I'll leave her be. It's a very specific behavior, but it's how she likes to communicate.
I had a cat like this when I was a teenager. I "obeyed the cats rule" and only touched her on her cheeks and neck. I quickly became her favorite person in the house :) She began to only sleep in my room, and would follow me around the house. When she got pregnant once, she moved her kittens into my room to grow up. I considered it a high compliment
My aunt rescued a pregnant cat a few weeks ago and she just had her kittens 3 days ago. She is SUCH a loving and trusting cat. Her first time meeting me, 2 days after having her kittens, she gave me love blinks and we exchanged nods and blinks for a while, even when I handled each kitten to check them over she barely moved from nursing the others, just lifting her head to see what I was doing I really hope she passes her personality to her little ones, I'll be adopting one of her daughters once they're weaned
Thank you for being their voice. Thank you for spreading the love and making an effort so as to see others improve their lives. Slow blink for you, Jackson.
I absolutely 100% agree it’s just very frustrating when your cats won’t eat it and they just nibble a few bites and leave it to rot. The more expensive the food is I buy for my cats the less they like it. Also they seem to get food aggressive and try to steal food right off my plate it gets crazy.
I also agree deeply with your statement I don’t have a cat but I’m very open to learning in general and it’s both a frustrating yet powerful tool to not just love your pet more but also create an important bond, even if it don’t make sense to anybody but you two, it’s more special that way. I love this type of mindset 🥰
@@orangebpumpkin5676 My male cat is a very picky eater, too. I know first hand how frustrating it can be if they HAVE to eat a certain food (maybe due to illness) and don't want it! My cat would starve himself to the point to where you could easily feel every single vertibrae on his back 😳 Just by sheer luck I found a vitamine paste for cats he absolutely LOVES. One day I had the idea to mix it with his wet food, just to see what happens. Sure enough he cleaned up his bowl in one sitting! 🥳🥳🥳 So, I found a bait so to speak and now I can give him pretty much any wet food, as long as one package of this paste is mixed in with it 😊 If you can't find a bait, then try to slowly mix the new food into his regular chow. Like 1 teaspoon per day for a week, then 2 teaspoons for a week, 3 teaspoons...etc. If they suddenly stop eating it with say 3 teaspoons of the new food then go back to 2 teaspoons per day...and so on. Good luck! 🍀🍀🍀
@@orangebpumpkin5676 What we do with Sid, is my landlady buys him the £1 small tins of gourmet food. Pretty expensive for so little food, and prolly going up in price soon. But! What Sid likes is if we give him half the tin for one meal (always tuna or salmon, he's a fish boi) with some expensive kibble mixed in since he seems to enjoy a mixture of soft and crunch. She learnt to do this because she caught him many times dropping mouthfuls of his food into the kibble bowls around the house. Soft food we give as and when, usually when he's come back from being outside, since he's an active cat and there's always bowls of the expensive kibble around for him to snack on. I know Jackson advises against free-feeding like that, but Sid doesn't really like to eat around people due to suspected prior abuse (landlady found him coming through her window with head wounds, got him fixed up and found a chip, they admitted to planning to dump him in a field, so she took him home with her instead some years back). So we put down this food and leave him to it, check in a little while later to see if he's had enough etc. Sometimes he'll leave food and when he comes back in and you go to exchange it for fresh, he'll be trying to eat it. So we leave him to it when that happens, because unless iit's something dangerous, never take food from an animal.
We have a rescue cat from our local animal shelter and she is amazing, we never could have imagined how grateful she appears to be that we brought her home. We adopted her a week after we lost another rescue kitty.
We have 2 cats that just turned 1 and recently rescued a kitten, it’s been great to see the original 2 bonding with the new guy, they’re almost raising him! Teaching him “how to cat” it’s so wonderful to see 💜💜💜
I have learned so much about my kittens watching Jackson. I love watching my cats mojo coming out and they are much happier than I thought they were because of him. Thank You Jackson!
Jackson, I totally understand! I have a cat that wouldn’t mind being the only pet in the house, in the other hand, I have a cat that is a social butterfly, and his best friend is not the other cat, but our dog! He jumps the dog in the morning, he just adores his big doggy friend!
Thanks to Jackson's books and these vodeos I realised how lonely my (single) cat had been. My mum was getting "a kitten," and by some miracle I talked her into getting two. That's been the best thing she did - every time I speak with her she says it's the best thing she did, getting the two together! They're litter mates and do EVERYTHING together. We're getting two kittens soon - because ours needs a friend, and because I can't stand the thought of bringing in another single kitten. Kittens need other kittens.
Thank you for all the tips! I think you are purrrfect! I am a proud Cat Woman, I had 3 Persian kitties that I got at 6 weeks of age. They all three were strictly indoor cats. I spoiled them and treated them better than most human children! At the age of 20, all 3 of them passed away, one right after the other from kidney failure. I was so devastated, heartbroken and depressed for a very long time. They were my babies. Recently, I have adopted about 15 homeless and Feral kittens and cats. I know nothing about these types of cats, I was quite the expert with my indoor, Parisian, city "aristocats"! I did your tricks with my new adopted wild cats. The slow blinking, bowing my head, slowly stroking them while feeding them, etc.. it has worked like a charm. Most have come around to the point where they are not afraid of me and they now let me pet them. One kitten, comes in my house and has imprinted on me,sleeps with me,cuddles, licks and has recently started to purr. However all the others the stay strictly outdoors. The one kitten likes to be indoors with me for a while, maybe 5 hours a day, but also likes her time outside. She is about 4 to 5 months old. I have had these cats for about 3 months now. It is a new experience for me to own outside cats and wild cats. I worry so much about them. I would let them in,but they like their wild, outside routine. Especially the older Feral cats. I do my best. If you have any more tips for caring for Feral, recently homeless, kitty cats, I will take it! There is no way I could get them to a vet except for the one kitten who I call Lily De`Ann. She has become my babie. I want to take as good care of her and the rest of my new gang as much as possible. But wow, this is a really, really different experience! Thanks again sweet heart! From Paris with love, Pia Paradis 💞
Jackson, I just want to thank you so much for your work. We rescued our cat Coco when he was so tiny that I had to bottle feed him. I was pregnant with our first son and we had 4 kids within 4 years. So, our Coco got a bit neglected from us as I was the type of cat owner that grew up thinking cats don’t really care much about us. he is outdoor/indoor, he bites and generally I’ve blamed it on his “feral side”. He is currently in the hospital with a urinary blockage and coming home tomorrow, and I am dedicated to becoming a better cat mom to him. I have spent this weekend watching so many of your videos and I can’t wait for him to come home and implement all I’ve learned and have a better relationship with him 😻🐈⬛
Hey Jackson, I just wanted to let you know that you have helped me so much understanding cat behavior. I recently accepted a job in Australia at a cat only shelter in the fostering department, and your work sharing experiences and videos on body language have really helped me accomplish getting a job in the field I love. Helping our feline friends. I've studied cat behavior at university but that can't even compare to how much you've taught me over the years. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. *Cat bow*
I've always seen cats as perfect pets to teach about personal space and respect towards others. And while dogs are more expressive, I feel cats have a more subtle/hidden language. I love them for that, especially since no cat is the exact same. It helps they are beautiful creatures as well.
I tried to test the water with fostering a kitten to see how my cat will handle another cat in the household. I did all the slow intro and providing perches... My cat was not having any of it. She actually lost weight, began to hide all day, hiss and smack the kitten whenever they get close, even with food and treats, and began to exhibit aggressive behavior towards me (which I have never seen before)... Once the foster was out of my apartment... My cat started to eat again, and returned to her sweet self. Not every cat can handle another cat.
I knew a cat that licked itself bald while living with other cats. The owner couldn't afford to live without roommates and had to find the cat a new home
@RetroTrash Productions female domestic cats tend to form groups when living in "the wild", it helps to have multiple eyes to look out for the kittens, but Male cats tend to be more solitary, they get into fights with other male cats, and the female cats tend to be defensive towards Male cats because they can be aggressive to the kittens as well, so they mostly interact to mate and then separate. But kittens that grow up together tend to bond and be friendly, living in a house with a lot of security is different than living in a group of 30 something homeless cats, cats that are spayed also tend to become a lot less aggressive which helps
Asking permission really is a huge thing 💖 I always stick my bent finger out and if they rub on it, they get pets. If not, I leave them be. My cats are both wonderful and get along so well, I love them so much. Respecting them as their own little beings/ people goes such a long way.
Ichabod has what I call the cuddle meter. He just needs a certain amount of cuddles daily, he's the kinda cat that will sit either in your lap, pressed up next to you or just with a paw on you. Purring up a storm the whole time. Whenever I want to show him he's loved I'll sit down with him without distractions for a while. It's worth it when he rolls over and shows me his belly and purrs. Ichabod loves cuddles so much that I can't sit down until he's done eating, otherwise he'll get distracted and be like, "OH MAN WAIT CUDDLE TIME."
My cat grew up in a hoarder household with loads of other pets who weren't looked after and had to fend for themselves by fighting over food and such. We actually weren't her first family after that experience but she couldn't stay in previous homes because she shows incredible aggression towards other animals, especially cats, and won't tolerate them even when they're introduced with the most care. Now that she's with us (we have no other pets) she's an absolute dream. Hasn't hissed, scratched or otherwise hurt anyone even once. Even during playtime while not anxious she's super gentle and she loves attention through speaking with her or bellyrubs. BUT if anyone comes home and smells like another cat they might have pet she'll get very cautious and sometimes hide until the scent has worn off. Just goes to show there is always an exeption to any rule like you said.
Thank you for posting this. I adopted a cat who grew up in a similar hoarding situation. He's a real sweetie and the loveliest companion. The RSPCA shelter said strictly no other pets, but I recently started to worry that maybe we should adopt another cat to be company for him. Your story has helped me to see I should be careful, and it set my concerns in context. It's a great help - thank you so much for your valuable advice.
I'm so happy that I found this channel. I spend my sleepless nights watching this videos just to make my cats happier. And if they're happy, I'm happy. Eight months ago, I didn't even dream about having cats, neither loving them so much like I do now. When my first cat (Natasha) came into my life, I didn't care, but soon she would grow on me and I would be her mother. Now I've adopted another cat (Shelby) and I'm feeding other two homeless cats who are Natasha's sisters (Miau and Luiza). But these two cats are very scared of me and everytime I get close to them, they get on alert mode. With this video, I hope they will understand my love for them.
Thanks Jackson! I adopted my cat as a little wallflower, and these techniques made him feel safe enough to play in the room, be away from walls and come into my lap! Your instructions also helped me to teach my non-cat-people bnb guests on how to approach him: ask the cat permission to pet him, don't address him but blink - he'll answer and maybe come to you... and for my guests who *really* want to befriend my cat and are thinking about dog friendships: I explain them that he *does* like them, but he expresses love through blinks, being around you, brushing your leg, checking your luggage, etc. It's discrete, but still affection! It's so helpful to have a language to explain these things!
I had to giggle when I saw the "Finger of God " because that's how I get permission from one of my daughter's cats. I have to point my finger at him, he sniffs then he headbutt. Thank you Jackson, being a life-long dog person I really didn't understand cat language until I started watching your show first, then these videos!
I can relate, I am a dog person but, I currently dont have a dog, my last one passed last yr, but I do have 2 cats of my own the oldest me and my now ex got when it was 8 wks old (first thing it did was take a nap im its new/unused litterbox) we had to work on that situation lol, my ex couldnt take him when we split up and so I kept him (the cat not the ex). the second one I rescued a few yrs ago,, it was a bad rain/wind storm and I kept hearing a meow on my porch I went out to see what was going on and there was a big dog trying to tear apart a tarp i had rolled up on my porch swing and he was growling like crazy, I chased him off and then I heard the meow again, coming from the tarp. there was this small cat staring out at me, I got her out and she had a bloody nose and paw and was terrified. I took her into the house and checked her out neither of the wounds were severe and by the time I had dryed her off with a towel, both had stopped bleeding. I gave her food and water and got a blanket to make her a bed on the floor temporarily. she ate like she hadnt ate in a few days. My cat was just sitting over to the side watching all this, not doing anything. When the new cat got done eating she proceeded to run over and jump into my lap and fall asleep, my cat came over and laid down next to me and went to sleep. They have been buddies ever since. I also have a 3rd cat in my house, it belongs to my roommate but honestly I dont know why he has a cat, he doesnt spend time with it, he buys food for it but if I didnt feed it It would not be fed, I change its litter box and honestly the cat acts like my roommate doesnt exist. She will get on my lap, come to me for affection/playtime etc..My two cats dont seem to mind, but they are not super buddy buddy toward it, I make sure my 2 get equal attention. They all 3 share toys well. dang I didnt know I typed this much. oops so sorry.
Aw! I brought home a teenager kitty on very short notice (a friend's family had her move into their barn and noticed that she was sociable with humans, unlike most of their feral cats) while having an adult cat my shelter said was impossible to house with other cats. It took a few months of slow, patient introductions and *a lot* of separate playtime before I let them interact, and they are pals now. Certainly helped that kitten and cat both have similar play styles with toy mouses, and quickly picked up on playing chasing games together.
Hi Jackson. I recently adopted a senior cat. I've been following your advice and slowly he's coming around. At first I couldn't approach him without him hissing. Now he allows me to sit next to him and talk to him. He will also take food from my hand and is starting to explore his surroundings. Thanks for your great advice over the years. Congrats on the success of the channel.
I had the same experience with my elderly girl, Pickles. She came to the shelter quite traumatized and it took a while to earn her trust after I brought her home. Love eyes worked. A solid routine worked. And give her lotssss of space worked. I wonder -- have you thought about getting your pal a friend? I'm trying to decide whether this would work for Pickles. Looking for success stories :). Wishing you and your senior cat all the best.
These videos really made the relationship with me and my cat so much better. I started watching when I rescued him as a kitten and thanks to Jackson we are so happy together.
I can't see, so the blinking doesn't work between me and my cat. She seems to know there's something different about me. When I enter a room she's in, if she's awake, she'll give a quiet trill in greeting. She also sometimes rubs her head on my hand if she's near me, which I took to mean, "I like you. You're nice," the moment she started doing this with me in the shelter during our first meeting. She then proceeded to lie on my lap a bit and start purring. A few days after that meeting, I brought her home. The first time I tried speaking sofftly to her, all I got in response was a hiss of fear as if to say, "Leave me alone. You put me in that strange cage." So I gave her some space to calm down. After half an hour, she came out from hiding under the bed, ate some food, and jumped on the bed by me for a nap. That was when I realized she purrs very slowly and deeply to help herself get to sleep; I could tell this by her breathing. Again, another head rub from her at that point before she dozed off. Three years later, we seem to have developed a way of communication that is nonvisual. She seems to know to blink and interact in a visual way with the other members of the household and to be a little more vocal and physical when communicating with me. :)

My cat doesn't do the nod for "Hello." She opens her mouth like she is saying "Hi," and lets out a little squeak. Every morning when I come out of the bedroom, she looks up from her perch and says Hi, and I say Hi back to her. 💖
My late bf and used to slow blink at each other across crowded rooms as an "I love you" and as reassurance in times of stress. We both had/have social anxiety, so the slow blink was a wonderful addition to our comfort zone. Both of us were nutty over our cat, and this was another of the gifts that she brought to our lives.
i am adopting a cat of 6 months that was left on a street with some other kittens and she was picked up and fed by some really sweet older lady and i was begging for a cat my whole life and she should arrive in one or two days i couldn't be more excited!!
I saw my Burmese boys today after 2 months of lockdown. It was so wonderful! I got a big yowl when I walked in. "We missed you. Where TF have you been?" Lots of long blinks and cuddles. Followed by 2 hours of play they sorely missed.
My cats have recently decided they love to be brushed. I have a small box that canned food came in and I put one of their favorite towels on the box, put it on the counter, then brush them with a massage brush and they LOVE it. They interrupt each other's brushing sessions to get their turn
Jackson, your illustration of a cat's position in the food chain is exactly where stray and abandoned cats fit in my semi-rural neighborhood, especially the youngsters vs predators.
My cat friend is spoiled 😅. I literally almost do anything for her. I know she loves me is. She loves belly rubs. She has no problem with me insta petting her. She will drop and cuddle with my foot. She presses her head against my chest when we cuddle. She wants to cuddle between my legs when we're on the bed. She doesn't use ger claws unless it's a gentle grip to keep my hand close to her, or arm if she wants a pillow. She grooms me. And the best one is, she follows me everywhere.
Every single time I feed my cats they rub themselves all over me while I'm opening the soft food. I feel like that is a cat saying "I love you thank you so much" and it's totally adorable. ❤
My cats bed is my dog's back or curled up near them. I have a litter box in on a cat tree, she can watch birds and crap too. (Never used it) I play with her a bit, but she's more interested in my dog's tail. My cat loves the carrier, she gets to see friends. I give her a back massage every Saturday night. She has two dog sisters to play with.
This advice is great. Doing this, I’m immediately friends with any cat, including my brother’s very nervous kitty who disappears when he hears the doorbell ring. Cat- person interactions are also a bit of common sense. You would not want someone to suddenly hug you and invade your personal space whithout your consent, not grab you or scratch you. People who claim cats are cold just have no empathy with other living beings.
Wow! Great news for us! Mine is 14 & just got a clean bill of health from the vet!
Adorable :)
Makes me teary eyed
my baby who just turned one will do this almost every night and morning while i'm washing my face and brushing my teeth. i've started putting a hoodie on in advance to keep him from scratching up my upper back lol
Awesome!! Congratulations!!
THEY LOVE THE LOVE BLINK!!!

Hey! Just wondering, even though it’s been awhile, if everything is still going well with your furry friend?
All I can say is CONGRATULATIONS!! I'm so happy for you and your new kitty!! I wish you many years of love together. 💕💕💕🐱🐱🐱🐱
It's a good 😺 cat sign. Kitty now accepts you. It is sort of a big deal. You passed, congrats 🎉!
Maybe the food needs to be put in the corner... In a private place.
Way to go!
Leaving a cardboard box intact for her to play in instead of breaking it down right away is definitely the way to my cat's heart
I think that's the way to every single cat's heart, LOL.

I’ve tried the ‘I love you’ eyes. Instead of returning the love, he looked at me, in shock, then smacked me. I guess he doesn’t love me. 🤣🤣🤣

I'm so sorry for your loss. :C

All these comments sympathizing with you and your loss.......I'm so sorry too! I lost my Gucci the day after Labor Day this year. He was so loving and adventurous. There are tears in my eyes for you.
Poor kitty! Well done for getting it fixed.
Behavioral problems in cats can easily be a direct result of physical syhical issues... From pain to a dirty litter box or not enough play. I hate to think of how many owners gave up their pets with behavioral issues due to an possibly easy to solve physical issue.

Hello Laurel how’s the weather over there
Staring is bad. I've got a boy who only wants petting when it's dark in the bedroom and I don't look at him. The fingers wag and he will brush against me.
If I offer my finger to my kitten she just bites it
I learned long ago to wait for my cats to let me know if they want loving. Of course, they tend to follow me everywhere. The box is in my bathroom so when I go in there to do my business, they did, too. My calico would sit by the tub and wait for me when I showered.

I would like to thank you years ago. I found out about your channel because I was trying to save a little cat a little kitten.
She was chasing her mother who didn't want to breastfeed her anymore because she was big a little bigger and they were probably abandoned by someone nearby my house.
And that little cat was struggling to survive its was summer here in Brazil, but it was a little unusually cold
And I would put food on the top wall of our back yard and this little kitten would come and she wouldn't eat unless I would get away. And then she would go back to the darkness to the woods to rain and every night was like that hearing her meowing in the cold rain chasing her mother and being beaten by her.
And
As Time passed I things did not evolved much
But she would feel a little bit more confident confident to come to eat.
The was a nightmare to she was in
She was at most 3 months old or something.
And then I looked on the internet and I found you. And I found ways through your videos how to communicate how to tell that little cat I'm not a threat
And the the slow blink was one of the greatest tools that Ive learned.
That's not how it works
Understanding that was the way.
Learning from you
Through that , Me and her ( I named her Selina. ). we started developing extremely rewarding relationship
And to the point that she became the closest to me.
And she would come and when she arrived if I my tap my my chest she would come and jump on my arms and greet me with meow and slow blink
It was a amazing relationship that changed my life profoundly. And unfortunately one year later she was poisoned.
Someone poisoned her with rat poison. I found her in the morning. she was throwing up with a little blood and I rushed to the vet. And the vet was honestly was, she told me Selina was not well.
And
About four hours later this fight of the treatment. She had many internal hemorrhages. And that lost her.
And
I feel like I experienced the pain. I never experienced. And
It was so profound. I I really believed I really talked to her after I burried her
After she passed I was in the backyard when I buried her and I talked to her.
That wouldn't have been possible wasn't for you, Jackson
It's been. Five years that I thought about sending you a message to thank you. And I don't know why I didn't; maybe because it's it's a sad thing. I didn't know if wanted to share this sadness with with someone I feel so grateful,
I am filled with gratitude. For you and for Selina.
It was a honor and a blessing to have met her in this life.
She deserved better. 😭😭😭😭
But my hope that despite the fact that she left this world in pain I was there. She knew that the person who loved her was with with her. Until the end
I wanted to tell you. Thank you so much.!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
For for helping me for helping me save Selina. And despite of my pain Despite I felt the months after weeks a month.
Broken Heart
I learned I don't know how to express.
In in the end of this painful experience

Great advice, thank you. Slow blinks definitely work. We also have an understood language between us. He head-butts me when he wants attention (he sleeps on my desk when I'm working) and I kiss him between his ears when I want attention back. He reacts by stretching out his paw and putting it gently on my arm, as if to reassure me that he's there. It's a beautiful thing. One of the best things that ever happened to me was when he decided to move in.

Cats are such loving creatures!
She still hides whenever there is someone home though.

Omg bless you
I had a cat who wanted nothing to do with other cats.
Yep, he went from 10 hours to -1 hours.
I fold fluffy blankets on all high & or sunny areas for my cat.
thanks so much for the tip! I'll keep it in mind when I finally choose a cat. I've got my eye on a couple of orange cuties in nearby shelters and I'm trying to get prepared.
@@charcoalanderson8010 I wanted a orange kitten. As I was walking back toward the little ones an 11mth old orange tabby jumped down, walked through & rubbed on my legs. Then he laid in front of my feet like a door mat. I told the staff I wasn't leaving without him & was done browsing. They're the best. He's getting comfy & the crazy is coming out!!! Good luck my friend ☺️ comment when you decide 👍🏼
@@mommyshark1124 I did finally get my own little orange goblin shortly after I posted! :D From his behavior and the little bit of history the shelter provided he had a tough life before but he's coming around and has learned recently I'm a pretty reliable source of tasty chicken and treats!
@@charcoalanderson8010 Yay! I adopted mine on 7/21/22 & he's just now coming out from under the couch. Last night he slept in my bed for the first time 😊 If only I could get him to eat his wet food instead of just licking the gravy 😩 Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated
My cat says I can tell her I love in these 5 ways: 1. Breakfast, 2. Lunch, 3. Dinner 4. Snack, and 5. Play with me! 🤣
Every. Damn. Day.
You look just like Jackson Galaxy

My 7 year old granddaughter (I have custody) we live for your saturday morn, "The cat from hell. She and I are cat lovers from heaven, we at 1 point had 5 inside and 1 outside. We are down to 3 and 1 outside. It brightens her little face to give them a treat or fill up the food bowl. So glad I found u on the internet. Now we can watch you with your cat wisdom any time. Thank You. Have a great day. God Bless you and yours.
That’s a good idea, I’m going to try it.
Me, my partner, and our little calico twins love you 🥰
Jackson you are a cat in a human body. Thank you for showing us how to love and enjoy our furbabies.
It was so rewarding to have him like me 💗
How do you outwardly purr?
@@ayesha36 I rolled my r's, basically putting the front part of my tongue close to the roof of my mouth and then push air out (like exhaling, just with a lot more "force").
When I do it for a kitty, I make a p sound and then do the thing listed above
Glad I am not the only human who attempts to purr for cats.
I have had cats try to correct how & where my purrs begin... I had to apologize & say it was as close as i could manage.
@@karengerber8390 how do they correct you? I just guess lol
Huskies are like Siamese for cats, only with a lot more killing.
Patience, love and reading bodylanguage is key".
my cat blinks at me .... I am so happy
I like how he considers the cats to be his clients.
They are 🙂
I grew up with many cats and never had a problem with any cat, but I guess growing up with them, I learned to read them well and I've always known most of your suggestions to get along with cats.
WOW!!! That's so "FANTASTIC!!!" Your cat actually waited for you at your 'Bus Stop!?' omg! That's
incredible! I wish you would make a 'Video of that."
My cat Kenny used to wait for me at the door everyday when I was in middle school
@@francesmarywilliams3322 When I was riding a school bus, there was no such thing as video. 😄 (1950 or so)
My wife's cat had to be euthanized and the vet said there was a rescue cat at a different veterinarian 😂 so when we walked in, we heard🎉a yowl that might have peeled paint.
Nothing too paced.. just..intentional :)
My boy likes "smelling advenures": he does not like when I touch his back paws so I take him as I would a child, with feet hanging, and I let him smell vertical places, books: shelves, closets... he loves it! :)
l also had a cat who liked to be picked up and carried around to see things up high she normally couldn't see, She would PURRRR and lean forward to smell the bookcase shelves and top of things... So cute!
I had a siamese kitty who also loved being shown things she normally couldn't get to. She'd also purr loudly when being shown things up high. Oddly, it was the only time she liked being picked up.

I just got two kittens a month back. They're sisters and they cuddle and play together all day. Im so glad I got them both ❤️
I took in a stray and found out quickly she was pregnant .
How are her teeth?
My cat is picky about how he’s pet too. 🐈⬛
Anywhere on the head for either of my cats, both like to direct a little bit.
My aunt rescued a pregnant cat a few weeks ago and she just had her kittens 3 days ago.
She is SUCH a loving and trusting cat. Her first time meeting me, 2 days after having her kittens, she gave me love blinks and we exchanged nods and blinks for a while, even when I handled each kitten to check them over she barely moved from nursing the others, just lifting her head to see what I was doing
I really hope she passes her personality to her little ones, I'll be adopting one of her daughters once they're weaned
Thank you for being their voice. Thank you for spreading the love and making an effort so as to see others improve their lives. Slow blink for you, Jackson.
Hello Karla how’s the weather over there
Rule of thumb: The less meat is in the catfood, the cheaper it is and the higher the vetbills will be
I absolutely 100% agree it’s just very frustrating when your cats won’t eat it and they just nibble a few bites and leave it to rot. The more expensive the food is I buy for my cats the less they like it. Also they seem to get food aggressive and try to steal food right off my plate it gets crazy.
I also agree deeply with your statement
I don’t have a cat but I’m very open to learning in general and it’s both a frustrating yet powerful tool to not just love your pet more but also create an important bond, even if it don’t make sense to anybody but you two, it’s more special that way.
I love this type of mindset 🥰
@@orangebpumpkin5676 My male cat is a very picky eater, too. I know first hand how frustrating it can be if they HAVE to eat a certain food (maybe due to illness) and don't want it!
My cat would starve himself to the point to where you could easily feel every single vertibrae on his back 😳
Just by sheer luck I found a vitamine paste for cats he absolutely LOVES. One day I had the idea to mix it with his wet food, just to see what happens. Sure enough he cleaned up his bowl in one sitting! 🥳🥳🥳
So, I found a bait so to speak and now I can give him pretty much any wet food, as long as one package of this paste is mixed in with it 😊
If you can't find a bait, then try to slowly mix the new food into his regular chow.
Teaching him “how to cat” it’s so wonderful to see 💜💜💜
I can't believe that I only found your channel yesterday. I've been binge watching. Love it
I just love this guy! I think he's the absolute best.
Definitely addictive and amazing!
I have learned so much about my kittens watching Jackson. I love watching my cats mojo coming out and they are much happier than I thought they were because of him. Thank You Jackson!
Thank you @valerie and everyone else. It means so much! ❤️
Jackson, I totally understand! I have a cat that wouldn’t mind being the only pet in the house, in the other hand, I have a cat that is a social butterfly, and his best friend is not the other cat, but our dog! He jumps the dog in the morning, he just adores his big doggy friend!
That's awesome!
Hello Kim how’s the weather over there
Thank you for all the tips!
*Cat bow*
Jackson is a blessing to all of us cat lovers and YOU will be a big blessing as well! Thanks for what you do.
Thank you Jackson! My cat’s name is Melody 🎶 so I composed a song for her. Simple song ❤ and she runs to me because she’s going to get lots of pets.
I've always seen cats as perfect pets to teach about personal space and respect towards others. And while dogs are more expressive, I feel cats have a more subtle/hidden language. I love them for that, especially since no cat is the exact same. It helps they are beautiful creatures as well.
I just think that we can learn a lot from our cats.

It depends on the other cat as well. Just like humans don't like all humans, cats don't like all cats.
@@kathleenlauren Thanks for the tip! Luiza (one of the stray cats that I feed) still doesn't feel comfortable around me, so I will try it.
My cat was watching this on my phone...placed his paw on the screen and was all relaxed and happy. Well done!
That's so amazing. It sounds like you put in a lot of love and patience to help them connect :)
Wow. Your story proves that our pets [esp cats] are way more perceptive than we often give them credit for. Thanks for sharing that with us.
If u cant see how did you type all his or watch this video
@@bossman5359 Apple has a screenreader in their products called VoiceOver that reads the text on the screen for me. As for how I input text, there are multiple options for this. Currently using an iPhone 11 and something called braille screen input to type. It's much more efficient for me than texting with the on-screen keyboard and more portable than a bluetooth keyboard.
@@bossman5359 As for how I watched this video, there are no good substitutes for words like watch or see, so blind people use them as much as sighted people. We access social media with a few accessibility changes to help with feeling more included in conversations. Brief photo descriptions can be added to pictures on instagram, for example. We tweet, text, comment on videos like this, and use Facebook without help for the most part. Sometimes facebook updates may break certain things, but for the most part, we can manage.
@@joannestark3023 ok i was just wondering i wasnt being rude but thats nice that you can communicate on herr with everyone even if you are blind
Great advice; can't argue with any of it. And for people who own cats, we should know this.
The “ I love you “ eyes really does work! I love doing this to my kitty cat
We call them eye kisses :)
My cat doesn't do the nod for "Hello." She opens her mouth like she is saying "Hi," and lets out a little squeak. Every morning when I come out of the bedroom, she looks up from her perch and says Hi, and I say Hi back to her. 💖
Hello Ruth how’s the weather over there
My late bf and used to slow blink at each other across crowded rooms as an "I love you" and as reassurance in times of stress. We both had/have social anxiety, so the slow blink was a wonderful addition to our comfort zone. Both of us were nutty over our cat, and this was another of the gifts that she brought to our lives.
That's beautiful 😍
i am adopting a cat of 6 months that was left on a street with some other kittens and she was picked up and fed by some really sweet older lady and i was begging for a cat my whole life and she should arrive in one or two days i couldn't be more excited!!
Very good points, you didn’t mention this but it probably goes without saying, TALK to them, but that comes naturally. 😻😻
I saw my Burmese boys today after 2 months of lockdown.
It was so wonderful! I got a big yowl when I walked in. "We missed you. Where TF have you been?"
Lots of long blinks and cuddles. Followed by 2 hours of play they sorely missed.
what country?
Our cat do the blink and i do it back. I love him so much our Leo 🐈🥰
I agree one cat is not enough Jackson and every cat is different. Thank you for teaching us what you know about cats. 😻
I wish I knew this before getting my cat. Tried introducing her to other cats & she doesn't like any of them :(
My cats have recently decided they love to be brushed. I have a small box that canned food came in and I put one of their favorite towels on the box, put it on the counter, then brush them with a massage brush and they LOVE it. They interrupt each other's brushing sessions to get their turn
I Just got my One Year old Kitten, a little Brother and Sister kitten. He instantly bonded with them right away. Proud Cat Mama here.🥰
Jackson, your illustration of a cat's position in the food chain is exactly where stray and abandoned cats fit in my semi-rural neighborhood, especially the youngsters vs predators.
That's cat talk for "..speed it up, will ya?"
My cats bed is my dog's back or curled up near them. I have a litter box in on a cat tree, she can watch birds and crap too. (Never used it)
I play with her a bit, but she's more interested in my dog's tail.
