There are a ton of content and review online for you guys to take reference from. Doesn't hurt to shape your review closely to the ones completed. But this was genuinely painful to watch. It's like getting two vegans to review a well cooked wagyu beef. Jesus.
If you’re going to go through the efforts to produce and publish a video, why not have actual content? These guys seem to know less about the car than any review I’ve seen. Please learn from someone like Bobby Ang in Malaysia who gives extremely detailed and passionate reviews. This was worse than listening to a salesperson tell me about the car as at least they have some basic knowledge.
With the way VES and OMV are set, AND the way most Authorised Dealers earning profits, despite SG talking about going green, etc, still getting outdated and weak engines with some nearly 2 decades old with just updates along the way. Small capacity engine do not mean clean emissions. Speaking of which, having a 1.5 litre engine on this Mazda 3 is simply a joke.
Ultimately, what matters is the car specifications that you want. This new Mazda 3 is targeted to capture the Cat A market. Those who are interested in the 2.0L engines, naturally would gravitate to the Mazda 6 or even CX-5 in the Cat B or Open Cat. Unfortunately, most authorised distributor only bring in one model of the same engine or transmission for one type of car. The same can be asked for the Honda Civic 1.6... why only the CVT and not a manual tran, or why not a 2.0. They bring in different models to capture different market segments.
Meanwhile, in Australia, they get the Mazda 3 with the 2.5L Skyactive-G engine, while we are, thus far, only getting the measly 1.5L M-Hybrid... Even the Malaysians are getting the Mazda 3 with a 2.0L Skyactive-G. Come on!
There are good and bad points here. Good point is 1.5L (with Skyactive-X) is more fuel efficient than 2.0 and 2.5. You save more money compared to others. Bad point is more expensive and smaller engine.
I don't work for Mazda. The handling is really good for a sedan at this class. The steering is accurate and the GVC+ feature helps to maintain no nonsense traction and control over your cornering, even in rain. No torque steer nonsense despite being a FWD. As a driver, you will find the car easy to integrate with. It's definitely not a *fun* car compared to M3s, Miatas, or even some Civics. But it is still a *shiok* car to drive because of its confident handling, premium interiors and tech features like integrated heads-up display. Shifting wise, it's a conventional automatic transmission and not CVT nonsense. But it is not some Jatco rubbish either. Mazda stuck their own conventional 6 speed transmission that smoothly upshifts in normal unhurried driving. However, when demanded for power, the Stepdown can be a little sudden depending on the RPM you're at. In sport mode, the entire throttle response and transmission behaviour changes. The car actually becomes a little more fun. The throttle response curve becomes more eager to give you power, and likewise, the transmission will delay upshift to keep you in a 2.5 to 4.5k RPM. Overtaking and merging a fast lane is easy in the sport mode, even with a meager 1.5L engine. There are many people who complain about its meager engine. I am not even sure they really do know how to drive high displacement performance cars. On Singapore roads, I find the combined 1.5L and assist from Hybrid motors adequate. Suspension wise, nothing fancy. It's no Conti and it still has some residual harshness over bumps. Nonetheless, driven with sanity, I still find it relatively comfortable thanks to the seat ergonomic designs. Hope this helps. Go test one out for yourself!
This has got to be one of the worst reviews...no offence 😆
