  • The 1.5 litre Mazda 3 has 118 horsepower versus the 163 horses in the 2.0 litre, but both share the same body; the final drive ratios are different though, to give the 1.5 litre version some mechanical advantage. Will it still provide the promised Mazda Zoom-Zoom? Watch the video!

    Having tried the 1.5 and 2.0 on street and highway, the two variants felt very different in rapid acceleration scenerios like overtakes and fun-diving. But in normal linear acceleration, the difference was noticeable but minimal at best. The 1.5 engine is definitely geared for the daily, single passenger commute type while the 2.0 is geared for the family/ fun-car /several passengers types that need the extra oomph.

      Which is rather disappointing wouldn't you say? Been driving the 2.0 for awhile now, and I don't think it pulls nicely from a stop without having to rev the shit out of the engine. Maybe the engineers decided to make a "standard" for city driving regardless of the variants? But honestly, i paid for the power, give me more of the power man. Definitely going to be looking for either a small tune or remap once warranty period is over.

    For a Japanese small displacement engine this legit sounds quite good. Plenty of people are missing the point of Mazdas unfortunately. Though I have the agree the prices are too steep. It does not have the thashy or metallic sound of the Toyota or Honda 1.5 engines and it revs oh-so-nicely

      Its just like Apple. Everyone be like "omg why so expensive omg omg scam sial I can get better phone or laptop for the money lehhh". But its the attention to detail and design that makes driving it really fun. Honda and Toyotas just simply do not have that sadly.

    Nice car..test driven it (the 2.0 didn't bother to try 1.5)..but why on earth would anyone spend 140k for a punny 118hp car? Sorry man just doesn't make sense.. If u are a die hard mazda fan then just get the 2.0 for 150-160k or else just buy something else.

      Well, you should have tried the 1.5, I was skeptical like you did before I do so. After I did, I personally like the 1.5 more than the 2.0, especially in the tight bends. But like what you’ve said , 140k for 1.5 doesn’t justify its price sold in Malaysia. I am speaking on behalf of the performance and driving experience, not the price. Cheers.

  • @TSChee-tn5qc
    @TSChee-tn5qc 4 ปีที่แล้ว +64

    Actually, I enjoy driving the 1.5 Mazda 3 more than the 2.0, the final drive ratio and the very aggressive gearbox makes this car very very peppy and darting at the corners.
    I really like the gearbox downshifting , the Rev matching sounds like someone is heel and toeing for me! (Of course given a chance, I would like to do it myself, in old school three pedals way). This car is an epitome of “drive slow car fast” enjoyment, the Rev happy engine , the handling and the very low and cocooned seating position produce a very old school high revving natural aspirated joy that is missing in today’s car. To me, it almost feels like an MX5 on a larger package ! Ok, maybe using MX5 as a comparison is an over exaggeration, and of course the MX 5 is much lighter and a proper roadster , but the hard core old school natural aspirated fun and joy is there, which can’t be measured by speed nor sheer power.
    Many people criticised this car is slow , that car is fast, smoke this smoke that... I think they totally miss the point of what this car represent. It is the closest thing of those times where cars were just fundamentally made to deliver mechanical honesty and pure fun. And Mazda delivers it in a modern package without sacrificing its philosophy, kudos Mazda. This one is a superb drive.
