  • Being into multi-tools I saw all sorts of modifications that people transformed their Leathermans into. I didn't want to ruin mine which is why I was intrigued when I came across the Swiss Tech 11-in-1. This was also a good opportunity to dig deeper and to make use of my hardness tester to measure the different tools. The results were quite unexpected to me.

Finally someone who doesn’t just show the implements but actually uses them.
Videos that show Multitools with saws rarely actually test the saw.

Greatly enjoyed this review! Your knowledge and hands-on time with the tool were very insightful. Definitely will come back for future reviews on affordable EDC items/multitools

    Very nice!
I agree with you strongly on the first two points! Bogus marketing and guarantees from a manufacturer really turns me off.
The tool and tool set is very similar to a tool that I built from the Walmart Multiforce two years ago. I removed the pliers and one of the handles from the tool. I then integrated all the internal implements from the tool into the handle with the blade. I also removed the saw and replaced it with the serrated blade.
    It’s a great little tool!

It is the perfect toolset to carry with something like a Knipex Cobra XS or small slipjoint pliers. Personally I do prefer my Victorinox Famer X for a similar toolset although it lacks the bit driver, because I know I can rely on it for ever and the scissors on it are outstanding, and I use them most days.

Agreed. I think everyone has different preferences and budget. Victorinox will win in terms of quality any day of the week though. It is hard to beat Vic's performance to price ratio.

Do you think the hardness testing is valuable information to the viewer?

@@theflyinggearman3128 Personally I'm only interested in whether the tool is usable, serviceable and doesn't break too easily seeing as it is a budget tool I won't be expecting too much.

Seems like a gerber armbar ripoff.

    • @theflyinggearman3128
      @theflyinggearman3128  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@xyrius not sure how you came to that conclusion but I wouldn't be surprised if both tools were coming from the same manufacturer as the armbar seems to be china made as well and I have a strange feel that many China produced multitools share the same parts here and there. Other than that I dont think these tools are very much alike except for the basic I like that 😊. The design is very different, tool selection is different, the price is different...if at all I would call them LM wave rip offs as a lot seems to go back to the wave.

Really enjoyed your review. I’ve been looking for a multi tool that has a good tool set but is also easy to carry.

I think you should have put Hardness testing in the title, you'd get way more views. In some vids showing the spec sheet is says 3cr on this one and 5cr on the old multitool version on the general metal used. So I bought the old 18in1 multiool, but if the blade actually is 8cr13 on the new one thats a better buy perhaps.

Thank-you - great review 👍. I ordered this from AliExpress and was looking for feedback from others. What is the actual weight compared to the Wave? I would like to see the procedure for sharpening the blade as you did. Thanks.

    Very good and thoughtful review.
Will be staying away from Swiss Tech after you pointing out the false advertising concerning the warranty.
    Will stay with Leatherman.

Fair point, but Leatherman don't make a simple tool like this unless you want to spend huge money for less functions with a Free T2

Thank you for bringing up your first 2 points, when this company first came out with their “wave” look-alike I had to investigate and found that it was a Chinese company with a worthless warranty. I dislike that they tacked on the “Swiss” nomenclature because like you pointed out there was no way that it had to do with the Swiss country and its history of excellence in manufacturing. Other than that these Chinese knock off products are not too bad and they make a DL30 Leatherman “Surge” lookalike that I’m very interested in and will buy soon. Is it because it’s such a great multi-tool? That’s a big NO, but it is a fraction of the cost of all the Leatherman tools I currently have. I’ve bought and used Leatherman tools for the last 45 years and can appreciate its excellent design and quality, I have no regrets for what I’ve spent over the years upgrading and replacing lost tools but I can’t beat that warranty, you break it, send it in and you basically get a new one back! You cannot beat that nowadays. I’ve even done things to my tools that were clearly beyond coverage of the warranty and still gotten it repaired or replaced. Now…will I ever buy a real Leatherman tool again? Probably not, I feel that they have priced themselves out of the real working man’s toolset with their ridiculous pricing on accessories and tools and availability, and their Garage series tool distribution has been totally disappointing. I’ve tried to buy some of those editions and they are sold out within seconds and show up on eBay in the next few seconds for 4-5 times what the original value was. Leatherman will have to build a really special Multitool for me to ever buy one from them again, I’m done with them and will no longer recommend them to anyone and this comes from a guy who has most of their inventory of TRUE Multitools and has given most all of my family Leatherman Tools as presents because I believed that much in this company. They worship the almighty Dollar now and are not the company they used to be.

I totally agree when the Chinese want to get it right they get it right and it's perfect absolutely brilliant stuff I think what they're saying if you look after it will last you a lifetime let's face it is as humans we're a little bit like cars we break down as much sometimes not all the time anyway I'm going to speed off👍 and it looks like a really nice multi-tool I like it
