All these Lestherman alternatives are a blessing to be honest. It benefits the masses at large. Not everybody could afford a Surge but for functionality, both Multiforce and Swiss Tech are equally excellent. Other good alternatives are SOG, NexTool, Bibury and GOAT
Yea, and in some cases there simply isn't a way to get the leathermans at a reasonable price. In Brazil i would have to pay triple price after taxes+shipping.
I have the same complaint with this sheath as the Leatherman molle sheath. The “hook” half of the velcro is on the flap; so when the flap is open and you draw out the tool, you run your thumb joint up against the equivalent of 40 grit sand paper.
As far as I know Swiss tech and Ozark trail are manufactured by Great star tools in China. Which is the same company that makes SK tools. So they are very capable of making high quality tools.
I ordered a Multiforce from Aliexpress less than a week ago for $23 and it showed up today. The shipping label indicates it shipped directly from Walmart which was a surprise.
Good video Dominic! You will recall saying that this trend was coming, & that if it continued, it would bite the LTG right smartly...so the time has now arrived...considering the prices today, if I were starting off, I would purchase the Swisstech & mix & match tools, saving some money at the same time...
I saw one of your videos where you got rid of the pliers and used only one handle on the Ozark trail to make a multitool knife. I did just that and I really like it. I'm not a fan of those multitool pliers. I think I'm just gonna get me a small pair of slip joints from Snap on.
A cheap way to get bits for any multi tool using the Irwin ball detent double ended bits is getting the Bate’s multi bit screwdriver. It’s a very inexpensive way to go.
To be fair, I've carried a swisstech keychain folding plyers, original version for over 20 years. It has been my go-to in most situations. Uniquely engineered and tough as nails! Tiny bit mighty!
I'm considering buying a Swisstech because of the rotated gear set. I would also buy a daicamping dl1 and use full size pliers and scissors instead of a serrated blade. Do you think the pliers will have the same thickness and will fit? I think it would be an ideal combination. I'm sorry for my English.
I've had mine for about 4 months my swiss+tech. My first full size multi tool. And it can do just about anything I've come across on the go. Word of caution, if you get it wet don't forget to clean/drive out the moisture and lubricate. Not all the metal inside is stainless. I went swimming one day with it on my belt and the next day a few spots in the locking mechanism had already started rusting. But for 35 dollars with shipping this thing is worth the money.
The can opener failed the other day on my 10-month-old MultiForce, before I had gone 1/4th of the way around a lid of green beans! I mostly use it for the blades, pretty light general use. If you intend to use the can opener, test it first! Make sure it holds up. The lock release lever for the opener also serves as a backstop for the opener, and it cannot hold its position so the opener forces it up and back. Result is the opener goes back so far you can’t use it, not enough leverage. I’m also a bit unhappy with the big drivers - the Phillips/flat head bit falls out easily. Drop it and you spend 10 minutes looking for where it went. Finding out if there’s a warranty on this tomorrow.
@@maxlvledc well, it took a LOT of bugging them, but they offered refund or replace after about 30 minutes. Tried to have me call phone numbers they found online, of which the only one that went to Walmart was their online support only. The others were not Ozark Trail but had similar names. (Beware, OT is a brand name of Walmart’s, and not a division or business entity of its own. No phone number gets you to them.) Sadly the can opener failure was a deal breaker for my uses. If only it wasn’t needed! The rest of the tool has been great (for pliers, blades, and screwdriver).
I'm in the UK & bought a swiss-tech last month on Amazon ( £20 i think ) .. and yeah a bit too heavy for EDC , but fine to have in a pocket when fishing/camping/car maintenance/general DIY agree the scissors are first class
20 bucks is easy and cheap. I would recommend to make a choice about what you need and either invest the money for a Leatherman or a Victorinox. They cost like 5 times more but they have lighter versions to carry in pockets. and they are not as bulky. I tried one of those china shits and they quickly hurt my hand when using them.
I was looking for something besides my other Leatherman's. Something to have in other places for occasional use. Or for my family members to use in situation when I am not there. I would like for all 8 to have wave or signal, but that is financially unfeasible. Most of them already have some SAK. This is a nice option an something to complement a SAK if one don't want some small dedicated pliers.
@@richarde1355 I bet a lot of people. The wave is 8.5 and some people carry that in their pocket. Would be interesting poll. (What weight is too heavy to carry in pocket, 6,7,8,9 oz)
I bought my multi force over 2 years ago for like 32 bucks from Walmart just to see if I could carry a multi tool for EDC well I love it eventually I'll get a Leatherman wave but not until the multi force finally fails somehow.
I'm a huge Leatherman fan. It was kind of cool to see the Ozark Trail Multiforce but how many times are you going to reinvent, relabel and slightly modify each clone? Plus, the micro driver is nice not always an essential but when you need it, its there.
Nexlevl super small refrigerator magnet 6×2mm on Amazon, I took a 1/4 bit and stuck the magnet on the bottom, put in the bit holder and pulled out the bit and the magnet stuck inside the holder, no glue no mess super happy and it works on all the Chinese multitool bit holder.
This is really making me question my Victorinox Handyman...no toothpick/tweezers/pen/awl/corkscrew/mini-screwdriver, but a full size plier really does sound nice.
Do not question Victorinox ! It is top quality. If you want pliers, buy a Victorinox Swisstool Spirit X. You will not regret it ! All other multitools is garbage compared to Victorinox.
