    Something to be said about how great SAK's are in dominating their tool area is that there is more customization options avaliable now, too. Now you can get micarta scales or mod them to swap a tool or two. The 3rd party pocket clips, too, add to the value. Great video!

    Totally agree with your assessments. Victorinox still rules the market because of the criteria you mentioned and the aesthetics or the elegant/streamlined "look" it has. It just feels good on hand compared to the "rough" feel on the other brand. Just plain good engineering. Thanks for the video.

Wish I had known that before I bought the blade kit, but oh well. Since I already have a DeWalt drill, charger and batteries there was no need to buy more of those so this was a great deal.There is one other consideration. DeWalt does't sell the depth guide separately so you need to buy the three parts which make it up -- the N275350 block assy, the N275341 metal rod and the N278801 knob. Amazon does sell all three.

I personally just prefer Victorinox products, and like you said, lifetime guarantee. Great video sir

    Dom - Here's one that checks all 3 boxes: Ben Petersen's Civivi Sendy. Pocket clip. One handed opening (really cool in line back flipper with insane action). Liner lock (dead on 50%). The drop point is very similar in size (slightly bigger) than a 93mm Alox. It comes in NitroV (essentially 14c28n) and has tweezers and a toothpick. Pairs great with a 58mm pen model or a SwissCard, particularly for a night on the town. And the fidget factor is off the charts.

  • @kazmogizmo

    You can install extra bit holder on locking end.
    And using dremel, I made a 90 degree lock position slit.
    Then put 6mmx1mm round magnets in the bottom of hex hole. so it accepts wiha double ended bits.
    you can also use leatherman ratchet extender!

    Another good detailed assessment and opinion of what's out there👍 Im still sticking with my Victorinox One Handed Trekker with an optional pair of small Knipex Cobra pliers in pocket depending on the edc potential needs of the day. For me the perfect sak is the Swisstool, same quality, locking tools and a clip, comes also with oho blades for those that need them. Its heavy but the clip negates that almost perfectly. I think to compete with Victorinox is almost impossible, i got a 83 years old Victorinox and that still works fine but if it didnt they would fix that for me no questions asked.

  • @AlexandreLollini
    @AlexandreLollini 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Alox farmer with a titanium pocket clip on the ring (this makes is suspended = goodness). Benchmade 710 in the other pocket, Olight S20 in the 3rd and signal in the bag, raptor + cat tourniquet + israeli bandage on the side of the bag. This setup is pretty stable for years, I still use proper tools when possible, but most of the time it's faster just to tinker with a multitool and get things done without moving, without delay. It's all a question of lazyness. This SWISS TECH 11 in 1 is an interesting proposition.

  • @Aco747lyte
    @Aco747lyte ปีที่แล้ว

    I love my Victorinox SAKs because they are so adaptable. Swiss+Tech's latest multitools all have the locking feature and while their finish is very good, nothing beats the versatility of SAKs which I've used all my life, and in my medical job. Nothing beats high quality. It lasts far longer.

    Of course this is your view point, and thank you for that. In my opinion Leatherman in last 30 years is the best. On the other hand when I fly light I can’t have any knife on me so I make my edc tins with sawing , screw driver and plyers only and here comes Swiss tech. Mini but stronger then victorinox plyers stripped of the rest tools ( only flash light left ) and added hex bit end on other side makes me the minimum on board of the plane. So you’re right about Swiss Tech

    What I don't get is why don't victorinox make 1 handed opening tools for the US market? In Germany we need to have two handed (if it's locking). It's a must. Even leatherman made a 2h wave version which I assume is focused on the european market. So it would just make sense for victorinox to do the same for the US market. Especially considering one of their partners, Felix Immler, already made a video on how to make a 1 hand opening mod.

    • @clintwestwood3539
      @clintwestwood3539 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      1. The 111mm and 130mm series is both (mostly) one handed and locking.
      2. Victorinox starts as an European company and they verge towards European market. European knife laws are very restricted and it would be extremely stupid, from them, to complicate their business model (which relies on industrial stamping sheets tool that can be sold extremely affordable but still being made in Europe, which is a huge plus for the whole world market since European “made in” is a guarantee stamp, even renowned like the Italian one (DOCs and such)) and it would be stupid since they would not sell in Europe, Asia and Australia/NZ as much as their other models.
      That’s why.

I tried to loosen it up but stripped a couple of screw heads. Seems like a T9 size with a ridiculous amount of locktite. I haven’t been able to loosen the knife/saw side: impossible to deploy one handed. Hopefully the other two are better assembled. Really love the scales compared to the modded Multiforce.

    Unfortunately, I have to correct your error in those statements about Victorinox Swiss Army knives and their lack of locking main blades. We know that several of the Larger Victorinox SAK's have Locking main blades, with their lock release button integral with the Victorinox "Swiss Shield" logo on a handle scale - but there is an even better option. No longer available new, the Wenger Evo S557 was made in the same (Delamont) region of Switzerland as Victorinox, to the same - or possibly higher - standards as its rival - with Wenger eventually being absorbed by the larger company. They (Victorinox) continued with some of the better Wenger design ideas under their own brand. The "Evo" series of 85mm, 5-layer pocket Multitools achieved an (Alpine?) peak with the S557 model (known in the USA as the model # 16817) - which included a LOCKING Main Blade. Additionally, this pocket toolkit has a multi-size (stepped) Wrench, Nail-file, Large screwdriver with bottle opener, Scissors, Pliers (with integral crimper), Can opener, Phillips screwdriver - extending straight out from one end, as the best drivers do, Awl, Corkscrew, Toothpick, Tweezers and - in both of mine - the obligatory Micro screwdriver, inside the corkscrew coil. The S557 has traditional red plastic grip scales, though the Evo range also has black "rubbery" inserts for additional grip when wet. I still carry one of the two that I have, almost daily - with an O-Lite LED, AAA single-cell (Lithium, obviously) flashlight in a very compact leather belt pouch - in which I have punched a strategically-positioned hole to engage with the protruding main blade unlocking (thumb) lever and secure the Wenger in its sheath - until twisted to remove. Without doubt or argument, this was and remains up there with the Leatherman Crunch and now their ARC (with mine having its Magnacut blade dedicated to me and signed by Mr. Tim himself) - as the three finest Multitools ever made. Any counter-arguments that you may have to this contention will be considered, listened to, then summarily ignored...

    Hi been subscribed for a while now, really like you honesty and flashlight videos.
    Bought the SwissTech multitool after watching this video planning to modify it. After I ordered one I saw your short video that it can't be modded as you thought it could. A shame but still looked like a nice budget option.
    Upon receiving it the drama started though, the clip was a bit loose so went out and got 2 torx 8 drivers to fasten it. Only to find out that the screws immediately stripped on tightening, because they already drove it in slightly at an angle, pre damaging the threads.
    The Ali express buyer doesn't even respond to my complaint. And now I have the issue I found a lot of other people on this and other videos having issues with quality. I really think its not a product you can stand behind seeing al the issues. Just wanted to let you know since I really enjoy your videos and value your opinions. keep up the good work! All the best from NL
