- Here we are with this Lenovo Legion 5 featuring a Ryzen 7 5800H and a RTX 3070 as specs, here is how you can set your laptop to get up to 20% more performance in games by Undervolting both the CPU and GPU!
This also works for the Ryzen 5 model and for both the RTX 3060 and RTX 3070 Ti versions!

Hi tried this but it does not work in my case since my screen freezes indefinitely (and I have to force shutdown and turn on using the power button to unfreeze) as soon as click on "balance" in the premade options. FYI, device is a 2023 legion 5 slim gen 8 16APH8 (ryzen 7 7840HS with an rtx4060 8gb gpu). Any idea why this bug or issue is happening or how to solve this?
Thanks so much for this tutorial. I was never aware one could do that with a laptop. My Legion 5 with a 3060 did play Cyberpunk in 1080p with 45fps avg. with RayTracing off. Now it is the same, but with RayTracing on medium/high settings. a feast for the eyes.

hey brother, thanks for the video. i was kinda helpfull with the temperatures. can i ask you if the amd tuning utility tool applies the presets on start up or not ? i know is starting with my laptop but is not showing the minimized icon once that happen, so im curious if the presets are applied on start up or if i should select a preset everytime i turn on the laptop. thanks again for the useful video.

Secondo te, io avrei bisogno di utilizzarlo nella mia auto durante i miei viaggi/camping però sulla presa accendisigari dove utilizzo un inverter posso avere al max un carico di 12V/12A (16A di picco). Quindi siamo sui 144W continui. Collegando il suo alimentatore da 300W tu come faresti per limitare le richieste del PC al max sui 144W così da non far saltare il fusibile dell'auto?
Grazie mille! Ti direi che il primo step è di usare l’applicazione per l’undervolt della CPU come nel video ma inserendo il profilo battery saver, in modo da avere il minor consumo energetico CPU possibile. A questo punto, dovresti usare Afterburner per undervoltare la GPU sempre come nel video, ma andando a scegliere il voltaggio più basso possibile e trovando una frequenza stabile!

Have you tried any other ryzen chip besides 5800H. I have an old laptop with ryzen 5 3550H but changing the preset does nothing. All the presets run at same max temp of 90-95 under CPU Z stress test. Already applied best quality thermal compound.
I fear that on Ryzen 3000 there are some issues with the software, i doesn't work with everyone of them. But try updating the bios and the driver and give it another shot!
My MSi afterburner settings come a little bit different , memory clock is on +200, and power limit is all the way up should i change them?

@ImWateringPSUs when i tried these settings i had critical graphical error when playing esois there any other curve numbers you can suggest? can't even get the temperature down either
I’d say lower the core clock by 150Mhz and don’t use any memory offset, it’s gonna work!

Why does my laptop when I do stress test in cpu z without doing anything i have 4300-4500 performance while yours was 6000 in the beginning in the video so no overclock yet?
It could be windows settings or a different bios version! Update the bios, optimize windows and then follow the tutorial! :)

It was none of the three! You need to put the balanced one though

No it will not damage them! It will actually extend the life a bit, since they’ll be running cooler and on a lower voltage!

Yes, enter the bios by hitting F1 or F2 upon startup and then find “internal pointing device” and turn it on!
I am having same temps of cpu stress test, yet air blown is cool for some reason, is it the same case for you?

I’m really happy it was helpful! Thanks a lot for taking the time to write this! :) What the cooler air means is that your fans are spinning lower and/or you need to change the thermal paste. If you set your fans to run higher (at the same speed as before the undervolt) you’ll get lower temps! Also changing the thermal paste might be a good idea!
hello, pls say me you version bios? my vers=GKCN58WW, windows 10, 5800+3070. i dont have effect undervolt(( (balance alvayse use 1.25+-v on cpu vdd), i use uxtu 9.3 and 8beta - all give me 1.25+-. Maybe you can help me?
Unfortunately I have already sold the laptop, but get the latest BIOS and simply follow the tutorial, it will work :)
I tried under volting the gpu, like in the video, I seem to be able to run games a lot smoother now, I went with a gradual climb on the curve until I reached very close to 1700, in this case, 1710 then flattened out the curve, while also lowering the core clock by 250, I can now run elden ring, at lower settings smoothly, before it stuttered every few seconds, now the stuttering is gone, not sure if it was all thermal as it seemed to do that before regardless of heat, I think it may have something to do with the GPU hogging power, with the GPU using less of it it frees up more for the CPU, I could be wrong, I have an older Lenovo legion 5, the 1660ti, 4800h model, though I did upgrade the ram to 32 gb, but even with that games still stuttered, but it seems it came down to power management, it does make sense 230 watts is not a lot compared to desktop, though laptop components likely require less power, anyways, thanks a bunch, this way very helpful.

That means you need to change the thermal paste, unfortunately

Fans are still too loud for my liking, ramping up at 60/70 C° seems to agressive for me, I would want to hear noise only when reaching 80, but well. New version of Universal Tuning Tool has fan control utility but don't know how to configure it, I'll see what I can find out jaja. Thank you again!

when i put the same settings on my legion 5 3060 the games crashes in a couple of minutes and the curve looks a little different than the video
Try 50Mhz less and be sure to have heaven benchmark running in the background when you set the curve!

Set the software shown to undervolt to maximize battery and you’ll be good!

have you checked the out-of-the-box voltages? I have 5600H and RTX3060 130W Legion and the voltage spikes on CPU are up to 1.44v which is ridicilous. I'm running liquid metal on both the CPU and GPU and dropped the temps, however the power usage is still up there and the unnecessary voltage spikes, once removed, might bring some extra performance back.
Exactly! It runs WAY too high on voltage, exactly as the Ryzen 3000 desktop series did. And we're seeing what that did to the longevity of those poor CPUs
@@ImWateringPSUs well, I tried to get the program running and failed to do so. I'll just stick with at least the added thermal headroom liquid metal gives and keep the laptop on a stand for better airflow. temps are below 80 degrees C, while gaming on low 70s.

Well it means that it’s working but that you have a serious thermal throttling problem, I think you need to change the thermal paste!
@@ImWateringPSUs I did that a week ago. my gpu runs cool, like rly cool. On top of that while I do the stress test my clock speed goes down to 3ghz and goes up to 95c degree, once I turn off the stress test my cpu clock speed goes up to 4 ghz and cpu degree goes around 70-75c
@@conika92 try disabling Turbo Boost, either in Windows Battery settings or Throttlestop (I also have a Legion 5)

@@ImWateringPSUs You were right Sir. It was thermal throttling. Last time when I repaste it didn't put that much paste and probably that was causing the issue. Yesterday I repaste it with much more and the problem was solved. You are a life saver!
