    btw a quick tip for the clamshells: the package opener on the some of the leatherman wingmans or revs or whatever else are probably the best at opening those things. honestly if i could just get a high end version of that opener as a standalone id have that by my desk at all times lol

      Thats a great suggestion. And I agree, A stand alone clamshell package opener would become a staple of my desk lol

      It’s a preorder at the moment but the Rive Quickdraw looks good, looks a much more solid version of the box opener on the Gerber Dime.

    I bought one a few years ago at tractor supply and carried it for a while liked but it didn't ride while in my pocket and a razor knife in the other in the machine shop I worked in . Then two or three years ago I bought the Milwaukee 6-1 razor with the 1/4 screwdriver . And carried spare bits . Of course I have sent you pictures of my Carry
    . By all means I'm not downing the video . . I just went through the same items to find what works for me . Keep up the great work and keep sling them chips brother.

      I’m definitely gonna pick up the Milwaukee razor with the driver to and compare them! It’s definitely heavy in the pocket but I’m carrying it in my back pocket as we speak in a slip and it’s not too bad so far 👊🏼

    I was going to opt for a TI Ebay bit driver. But they coat 100 bucks or so, so i bought this. I didn't want a Fastback because i wanted to carry more bits and wouldn't use the blade( The Fastback is less convenient then an auto retracting plastic one from work). But after replacing the extension with a Milwaukee one, i was surprised at how well it rides in my pocket. I dont even notice it.

    Perfect for carrying in youre hip pouch as construction worker or electrician so you don't have a big round handel sticking out cus who wants to go to their tool puch every time they need a screw driver

    • @justified_edc
      @justified_edc  ปีที่แล้ว

      100% agreed. I think it would be a great home repair tool as well for those jobs where you know what hardware you’ll be using: you can load this up with all the bits you need and not have to always be reaching for a driver.

    Like you and many others in the EDC community I've been trying out various configurations since I bought my Knipex Cobra XS, instead of carrying a full sized multitool, or a mini multitool e.g. Leatherman Squirt. My minimalist setup is the Knipex with Spyderco Urban, and a Geekeye knockoff on my keyring for the bottle opener & screwdriver capability, it can handle Phillips and flathead screws...that's basically the same toolset as a skeletool. Sometimes I add a Victorinox moneyclip, a pretty rare slim aluminium 74mm (3 in) SAK with pocket clip, for the scissors. I too wanted to add a capable bit driver and looked at many options including the Bitbar. Btw I think the Bitbar doesn't have the extender on it, just a 1/4 in hole in the end of the case to put the bits in. I liked the look of the Big Ideas Ti EDS which is more compact but at £100 I'm not that committed. I finally found an obscure driver from a bike shop online, it's similar to the Ti EDS in that the holder folds out from the handle like a knife, with the bits inside the handles which are solid aluminium containing 7 bits; it does lock both extended fully and at 90 degrees. It's got just one Phillips and one flathead, the rest are torx or allen bits. Going to upgrade those to a small Wera bitset. It's only 3 inches long so about half the size of the Steelman driver
    I'll often carry the Cobra with a Victorinox Climber which I've upgraded to black plus scales (with an emergency pen) which have a pocket clip. Other days if I'm going to the woods it's the Victorinox Farmer X, with a capable little wood saw.
    I work as a chef, currently in a gastropub and the Spyderco & Knipex is so useful as both are instantly deployable with one hand, obviously I don't use the knife for food prep, I have proper knives for that, but it's great for opening packaging, as a 8 in chef's knife isn't good for that task. And surprisingly the Knipex are useful in the kitchen, for example taking a big tray out of the oven where I need to hold it with 2 hands and only have one cloth on me. I even used it to fix a wobbly pizza oven cleaning broom where the bolt holding the head had loosened.
    I'd argue that the Cobra XS is a multitool as I've used it for a lot of things, the tip of the jaws work as a bottle opener (drink a cold one or two beers most evenings), the handles can function as a pry bar, and I've even filed hangnails with the criss cross bit on the scales. In the woods it's a great pot grabber.
    Liked & subscribed.

      Thanks for the comment! I agree the Cobra XS can be pushed into a multitool role as I’ve used to similarly to you as a bottle opener and to do light prying. I think you may be on to something with switching up your support tools based on what you’re doing, and I may lean towards that here soon but I was trying to find a “one and done” solution (which may have been too optimistic).

      @@justified_edc Thanks for your reply. It's not really my idea, it's something which appears to have become more common over the last couple of years in the EDC community according to what I've seen on other channels. I think many of us are gear freaks (meant in a nice way) so we like buying new stuff and trying out new setups. I'm not throwing my multitools away (I've got 6 of them) and I'm not selling them either as it isn't worth it, who knows I may go back to carrying them. The problem for me is I'm in the UK and can't carry a locking blade so there isn't a one and done solution. Otherwise I'd probably carry a LM Wave or Vic Spirit X. Either the multitool has no scissors (like my LM Bond) or it has them and no blade like my MP600 bladeless so I would end up carrying too much gear. I do carry those if I have a bag sometimes.

    • @justified_edc
      @justified_edc  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@simonh6371 Ah yeah that locking blade rule definitely complicates things. I agree then that several smaller tools are probably the way to go for your situation.

    If it was mine and I was seriously going to EDC it, I would definitely drill it and pin it so the extension was permanent.

    • @justified_edc
      @justified_edc  ปีที่แล้ว

      I was kind of thinking along the same lines. It's cool to have the option of it being shorter but it would be nice of they had a fixed long neck version. I'm currently looking for different 1/4" extensions (possibly ratcheting) that I could swap this one out for some added utility
