I may have been 12 years old at the time when I found this album at my local library. I took it home and listened to it a thousand times, at least. I played my guitar along with every song and tried to play, or imitate, every Blackmore lead. I did my best, and learned most of the songs. I guess that is how I came into my own style of playing. Blackmore's enchanting melodies, and techniques. That's where I became my own guitarist, to play without boundaries, and measures. Ritchie was my best teacher. I can truly now enjoy my own playing, 40 years later, thanks to Ritchie.
Yes totally agree they were fantastic together it would have ruled if they reunited in the 80s for a couple albums and tours! At least DIO reunited with Sabbath!
Can't get enough of this video, keep finding myself coming back to it and utterly captivated by Ronnie and his gorgeous voice. \m/ \m/ I still can't believe you are gone :( and I miss you, Ronnie....
Somethin about this is beyond, above so many others, i remember hearing this in the 70s on an LA radio station, i thought it was an extremely different, powerful sound, i thought better the anything else on the radio at that time and i listened all the time. This is a classic, good for all times, rock on pilgrims 🎶
I was 15 in 1979 when we would listen to this album on 8 track continusly over and over again in my parents basement (I won't mention the Honey Dew Oil we were lacing our joints with) . Bob, Thanks for writing Blizzard of Ozz & Diary of a Madman. When it hit the stores I had to have it and I remember thinking "who ever wrote this shit is a fucking genius".
Thank you Bob Daisley! You are a true legend and elder statesman of hard rock and early metal. Teaming with phenomenal drummers like Cozy in Rainbow and Lee Kerslake in Blizzard of Ozz and Uriah Heep just to name a few highlights (love the Chicken Shack stuff too!). As far as I know you are the only person aside from Butler, Iommi, and Ward to have played in bands featuring Ozzy and RJD. Thank you for the wealth of quality music and for the awesome footage!
I hung out with Ronnie in 1993. He was recording in a studio in Chatsworth, CA. My friend worked there. He told me to come watch. I brought my bong and some killer weed. When they were done, we smoked out. RJD signed 3 of my CD'S that I brought for that reason. We talked for hours. Nice guy, very likeable dude. Not like Ritchie.
Those were the days...no doubt!Hey...is that a Conan reference, Frost Giant's Daughter?I was being steeped in Robert E. Howard around the time I discovered this album.
This INCREDIBLE song, which was released as a single, SHOULD have been a hit in '78. However, as Iggy Pop once said "DJs don't like rock n roll cluttering up the airwaves"!
Richie Blackmore wasnt always a pleasant person to work with. He once spiked his tour manager's drink, and left him naked without identification, in a rental car without keys, aboard a ferry headed to Iceland.
Uncle Crunch It wasn't just Ritchie that was involved in that incident. Ritchie is famous for pulling pranks on his fellow crew and band members but what he allegedly did to Tony Carey can hardly be called a prank.
Kenneth Rose I kind of agree with you. In interviews towards the end of his life he did come across as a bit arrogant. I even seem to recall seeing an interview on youtube where he says something to the effect of if he hadn't got together with Ritchie he would have made it big anyway. While thats most likely true because he did have an incredible voice the remark do come across as rather egotistical I thought.
18 in 1978,, Alpine with Mind Blower speakers, you could hear me coming a mile away, 70's Rock,, THE BEST EVER, what a album, but the 70's were full of great albums
And now all know why rap, hip hop, boy bands, grunge, k-pop and 99% of today's "American Idol" bullshit fake corporate music sucks ass. This is music. THIS IS ROCK!
+Lemmy Kilmister Are you saying they're lip synching this? If it's live then Bob's playing bass. Bob's autobiography is hands down the most hilarious I've ever read. Kahvas Jute was a great band.
Singing about the Keyboard player who's in the video who Blackmore fired for talking back to him had to fly back to L.A from brussels to move back in with his father
Exquisite. Blackmore is plays without being being obnoxious. The vocals are on the top of the scale. Dio handles the in- between parts like gold. Saw Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow 80-81 ish San Berdino Swing Auditorium. 🎉 ✨
GREAT POST - Ronnie sounds GREAT!!!!!! Ritchie is a GREAT guitar player, but he sucks at Air-guitar LOL Thanks again, brought back some great memories!!!!!
Ребята все со своими характерами главное они будут в наших сердцах они очень талантвены а когда таланты ну так. ..надеюсь что вы понимаете главное они все классные музыканты
Cozy was the best .........He Beat His Drums Like They Owed Him Money .!.!.!.!
GOD we miss RONNIE DIO.......His voice sent SHIVERS UP MY SPINE. !
He is god

A great one to emulate, many others have done the same.
It is a crying shame that Richie and Ronnie could never heal their rift between each other and reunite. It would have been great!
Yes because he got back with sabbath for some great stuff later on did you ever hear elf dios first band did they make an album
@@justinparkerthewildwolf6394 ELF was great and made 3 albums!!
Yes totally agree they were fantastic together it would have ruled if they reunited in the 80s for a couple albums and tours! At least DIO reunited with Sabbath!
Richie was an a--hole to work with.
@@justinparkerthewildwolf6394 Yes 3 Albums and at least 1 Bootleg was made, Also the first Rainbow album was really ELF plus Blackmore.
he darks his extremelly high voice to get that amazing power sound, nobody does that... best voice ever, he could sing anything
NO ONE!!!!!
🤟👑🤟
It's not extremely high it's breath from his chest. But your right Noone sings better at this
2:41 first ever recorded "Look Out" Dio trademark.
When he sings look out you know its gonna be insane
La connection whooo whooowhoooo at the end priceless
Ronnie fuckin' kills it! Simply the greatest! 😀
THE VOICE...... BEST EVER
Lol
Chris Cornell would like to talk
@@keithharvey7230 Look out, don't fall in pieces
yes
@@BasedUriah In my opinion DIO/Cornell are the best singers
Got to hang with Dio when Sabbath invited me to their show...twice. One of the best human beings you'd ever could meet
best singer blackmore ever jammed with no fucking doubt about it.
Even when Ronnie was dying he had a better singing voice than Gillan. Ian Gillan should just retire since his voice has been crap for years.
AMEN to that
They have been the deep purple cover band for years no dis great players but no Blackmore no Lord no Purple
@@ajarproject4021 I have said the same for years. Without those two, it isn't DP.
Ronnie had more of an opera voice most likely because his family was from Sicily.. Strong and powerful. Gillian has more of a blues voice.
Love that Ronnie went live over the prerecorded song!!! Takes brass ones and he surely had em in spades ♠️ rest in power Ronnie and mr. cozy🔥❤️🔥
Facts
Yh this Videe and Gates Of Babylon are just Awesome-tacular!!😁✌️🍻🤟
A voice from heaven and a riff from hell. Long live rock n roll!!
🙂🙂🙂
What a band, LOVE the Dio era of Rainbow and this clip is priceless with Ronnie adding different lyrics! (RIP RJD and Cozy Powell) \m/
Love early Rainbow. The arrangements are great in these songs. Lots of unexpected subtleties in place. Clever stuff RIP RJD
The power in his voice is phenomenal!
Can't get enough of this video, keep finding myself coming back to it and utterly captivated by Ronnie and his gorgeous voice. \m/ \m/
I still can't believe you are gone :( and I miss you, Ronnie....
My god...that voice...so powerful
This is the music I grew up with. I thank my father that he helped me see the light !!!!

Ronnie & Ritchie...who can demand more?
One of the greatest couple (together with Ian & Ritchie, obviously) in rock history.
Oh to have a time machine and go back to a time when music really was great music. pure class

Rudy Sarzo has also played bass with both. Rudy was part of the Master of the Moon record.
What a song!!! Bob you are a Legend , RIP Dio n Powell
This song should have had more airplay. One of their best by far. I love Cozy!
My favorite rjd is Black sheep of the family, but I do like all of his rainbow songs.
I love Cozy +1 😎👍

Dio and Blackmore in the good ol' fine days!
Those were the days...no doubt!Hey...is that a Conan reference, Frost Giant's Daughter?I was being steeped in Robert E. Howard around the time I discovered this album.
Loved this line up. Bob is carrying the song along and Ronnie, Ritchie, Cozy and Stone are doing what they do best...perfection. Great tune.
This INCREDIBLE song, which was released as a single, SHOULD have been a hit in '78. However, as Iggy Pop once said "DJs don't like rock n roll cluttering up the airwaves"!
I heard Dio saying in an interview that this song is about Tony Carey quitting the band after being systematically bullied and abused by Blackmore.
Yeah I've heard that story as well. Ritchie was a real bastard to Tony Carey according to Ronnie. Worse than he normally is with his fellow musicians.
I wonder if Ritchie knew at the time that this song he was playing was about him and his treatment of Tony Carey? :)
Richie Blackmore wasnt always a pleasant person to work with. He once spiked his tour manager's drink, and left him naked without identification, in a rental car without keys, aboard a ferry headed to Iceland.

Damn! I have this along with the rest of my vinyl collection in storage. Haven't heard this in about 40 yrs
I've seen you with Blizzard of Ozz in Long Beach and Irvine back in '81-'82 seems like a lifetime ago.still remember the shows.ROCK ON
Best guitarist - Ritchie, best vocal - Ronnie, best drumer - Cozy = Best Band!
Always one of my favourite songs. Just brilliant. And Richie doing that slidy thing Stormbringery stuff
And now all know why rap, hip hop, boy bands, grunge, k-pop and 99% of today's "American Idol" bullshit fake corporate music sucks ass. This is music. THIS IS ROCK!
I really didn't like this song at first but I have to say that its grown on me over the years.
greatest hard rock band ever
🤗🤗
HARD AGREE ;) 🤘
hi Bob,i am a fan of yours
+Heavily Sad Me too
LOVE the sound of Bob's booming Bass..on this..Holding it down!! Great song. My favorite RAINBOW album.
RICKY DEAN Bob didn't play bass on this track. It was Blackmore.
+Lemmy Kilmister Are you saying they're lip synching this? If it's live then Bob's playing bass. Bob's autobiography is hands down the most hilarious I've ever read. Kahvas Jute was a great band.
metamorphosis67 Only Dio's singing live. Music is lip synced.
An undiscovered gem. Brilliant song, brilliant playing and vox.
Great record Bob.... you should be proud of being on that one.... love Khavas Jute too....
Awesome lineup for me the very best all due respect for all the other Awesome musicians that were part
What a powerful band.
Ooohhh LA connection..... Woooouu!
It's awesome! Beautiful voice !!!
Ronnie James Dio arguably the greatest metal vocalist ever. 🤘
Singing about the Keyboard player who's in the video who Blackmore fired for talking back to him had to fly back to L.A from brussels to move back in with his father
The keyboard player in the video is David Stone. The song is about the previous keyboard player Tony Carey.

Wooooooo.....LA Connectionnnn! Fantastic! Thanks for Dio. Thanks for sharing. Great!
What a great line-up...pure class!
You can see that Dio wasn't happy with the playbacks on the chorus!
Dio and Ritchie: easily one of the best partnerships in rock history.
