Ronnie James Dio! What a voice, saw him 4 times loved the energy! Add Richie and what a Rock n Roll show! Sabbath was fantastic with Ronnie also! RIP an Rock on!
Bob Daisley's writing and Ronnie James Dios vocals just where amazing I agree they where this complete sounding band back then so underrated. It makes you see who was the driving force behind ozzy on Blizzard and Diary Bob Daisley and Randy Rhoads
I cannot understand how Rainbow's Long Live Rock 'n' Roll passed me by. I was a very immature 24 year old in 1977 and think my musical taste must have been pretty undeveloped. The lead singer was amazing and completely absorbed in the performance. What a delight to discover him as I approach 70! 😃
Ronnie James Dio - lead vocals Ritchie Blackmore - guitars, bass (also bass on rough mix tracks 1-6, 2012 Deluxe Edition) Cozy Powell - drums, percussion Bob Daisley - bass on "Gates of Babylon", "Kill the King", and "Sensitive to Light" David Stone - keyboards on "Gates of Babylon", "Kill the King", "The Shed". Piano outro on "L.A. Connection" Tony Carey - keyboards on "Long Live Rock 'n' Roll", "Lady of the Lake", and "Rainbow Eyes"
This is just awesome! im 15 and my dad just gave me his old record collection, so right away i went out and bought a turntable. I found this album not knowing much about it. Put it on and its just magical! Thank you Dad for showing me the greatness of rainbow. I love rock and Roll and i can not let it die in my generation! RIP DIO AND LONG LIVE ROCK AND ROLL
I so wish this line-up could have remained intact. If they could have stuck it out, this band could have been so HUGE. the musicianship and writing potential in this video is astounding.
??? I don't think Rainbow's success or lack thereof was tied to the other guys besides Ritchie, not at all. The whole band and direction was at his whim. When he wanted to do something commercial, he either wrote something or bought songs such as from Russ Ballard, and changed the band like by adding much less metal sounding singers. And achieved some nice success in doing all this. But, while LLR&R is a catchy American-friendly metal song, most of his proclivities were way too European to truly strike it huge (which, let's face it, is synonymous with 'huge in America'). Here's just one specific example: listen to 'Danger Zone' off of the 'Down to Earth' album. The opening riff and verse are a straight up enough rock song, with a very catchy chorus from there. But before the solo break, he goes into this little Egyptian snake-charmer type of riff. Totally a toxic sound and style for appealing to American audiences. He just can't help himself it seems. Finally, one last comment: most people long for the Dio versions of Rainbow, but it's interesting to hear you prefer the LLR&R version. Most people consider the Rainbow Rising / On Stage version to be the true classic lineup, but it never did anything special for me, I can't disagree with you about Bob Daisley and David Stone. Actually, of the Dio versions, just listening to the backing musicians on the albums, I thought the Elf guys on the first album (that he fired right away) did what might have been the best work.
21GunStudio I don't even care for the post-Dio era of Rainbow, and this was my favorite era of the band because I love Bob Daisley; as a lifelong drummer he is my favorite bass player, and Cozy is the king in my book. David Stone's keys are simply phenomenal. Top all that with RJD on vocals and it just floors me.
I saw this line up in the late 70s in London at the rainbow theatre of all places. They debuted this track during the show. One of the best gigs on my life.
As we come upon the 5th anniversary of the loss of a titan in heavy metal and rock and roll, what better song to remember this man by. Man, I miss you so much Ronnie James.
Long Live Rock n Roll indeed! Rainbow are my second best band Purple being my first but fuck me it's close! I have been into Rainbow for 35 years I am 45 years old now, music today especially stuff on Radio boring 1 makes me want to puke, hard rock/Metal was amazing when this came out, it's so sad there isn't bands like this anymore and believe me guys and gals it AINT coming back because young musicians don't know how to rock because they are too bust tweeting and dicking around on Facebook to be bothered. I met Cozy in 1989 round the back of Newcastle City Hall after a Sabbath show he signed my headless cross Sabbath album it's framed now hanging on my staircase wall : )
Besides the greatest line-up, this song is a great epilogue of what our life as metalheads really is... Who could say it better? Dio with his great voice, Ritchie with his solos and imagination, David's furious keyboards, the powerful bass lines by Bob and the contundent sound from Cozy's drums... Everything is a lesson we should learn and teach to others... Long live rock ' roll!!
"Long live Rock `n` Roll", un clásico de Rainbow, una de sus mejores canciones, puramente Rock "Long live Rock `n` Roll", a Rainbow classic, one of his best songs, purely Rock
Hi Bob. I forgot that you played on this. One of my favourite albums of all time. Just class back in the day and took me through my high school exams. My two favourite bands from that period were Rainbow and the often overlooked UFO who were incredible especially live. It must have been difficult working with Ritchie. I went to see Rainbow in Edinburgh a few years later at Ingilston and at that gig Ritchie started fighting with one of the guys on stage during a song, I'm pretty sure it was Roger Glover whatever he had done wrong. Thanks for posting this. R
Awesome doesn't even say it all. This experience must have been absolutely amazing & truly unforgettable for you. What a memory! Thank you for sharing.
The Reason why this live version has so much significance is that I actually heard this live version on the radio back in 1980 when I was 15 when my Brother played in the Background on his loud stereo and never got it out of my head., not knowing who did it, I looked it up years later on the internet and downloaded it and thinking I might find the live version on the internet. Long Live You-tube and the internet!
I have the words Long Live Rock n Roll tattooed on the inside of my right arm in the gothic style that u see on the album cover, I also have Never Say Die by Sabbath tattooed on the inside of my left arm, two brilliant albums and songs. I saw Dio in 1986 and with Sabbath in 1992 at Newcastle City Hall, I saw Cozy with Sabbath on the Headless Cross tour in 1989 at the City Hall aswell, I had the pleasure of meeting Cozy after the show and I shall NEVER forget it, I met Tony Iommi and the rest of the band too that night I got them to sign my copy of Headless Cross which I now have framed and hanging on my staircase wall. I'm 45 years old now and still love this music even more so today in this shite 'musical' era we now find ourselves in, so sad there is no one like them now :(
Para Jose¨Pelos¨ por tratarme tan bien en su mítico Badil y en general a toda esa buena gente Amiga de Viana de Cega por brindarme vuestra calidéz y simpatía durante tantos años!!! Cheers,Beers and Rock´n´Roll!!! y..Vida Pa'lante !!!
Read somewhere that Ritchie is reforming Rainbow (sort of). He has recorded some new songs with a singer somewhere between Dio and Grahm Bonnett. I will check on Blackmores Knights web site to verify.
It's a great day when you see Ritchie Blackmore light up in orange and blue neon while having an epileptic seizure due to a stroboscopic Dio. This song kicks ass too!
No problem. I borrowed the DVD of them playing in Munich in '77 so that's how I know for sure it was '77 or earlier that they wrote this song. You could probably find it on the internet what year exactly they wrote Lon Live Rock 'n Roll, cuz like I said it could have been earlier I don't know. By the way, great show wish I was alive in '77 to see it in person.
Ronnie James Dio! What a voice, saw him 4 times loved the energy! Add Richie and what a Rock n Roll show! Sabbath was fantastic with Ronnie also! RIP an Rock on!
Fuckin Dio and Blackmore, what a powerhouse combination. This album kicks so much ass.
Rainbow is so underrated.... To me long live rock and roll is one of their best cd's if not the best. This music just flat out rocks!!!!!!
Michael Cook ufo (band) is underrated also!!!!!!!!
Rainbow wasn't underrated. In Seventies (after Deep Purple): They were a big Live-Act. Maybe forgotten nowadays. But not underrated ...
🤘
Bob Daisley's writing and Ronnie James Dios vocals just where amazing I agree they where this complete sounding band back then so underrated. It makes you see who was the driving force behind ozzy on Blizzard and Diary Bob Daisley and Randy Rhoads

you will live for another 70 years ;)
Took me til my 40's, and I'm a lifelong metal fan. NEVER TOO LATE!!!
2021, I'm 63 and still rocking to Rainbow!!!
Ronnie James Dio - lead vocals
Ritchie Blackmore - guitars, bass (also bass on rough mix tracks 1-6, 2012 Deluxe Edition)
Cozy Powell - drums, percussion
Bob Daisley - bass on "Gates of Babylon", "Kill the King", and "Sensitive to Light"

Thanks ! Bob Daisley is just brilliant, as are the rest of the band.

VERY TRUE COMENT.
There are many people in the z generation that like classic rock. Just not the "popular" ones.
Ronnie was the best ever live-singer! Love his voice and will always honour his memory!!!

I absolutely love this band. So much talent and inventiveness. What a wheelhouse.
6 year anniversary today in Heaven. Still missed, remembered and never forgotten
As we come upon the 5th anniversary of the loss of a titan in heavy metal and rock and roll, what better song to remember this man by. Man, I miss you so much Ronnie James.
Over 4 decades since being infected and going strong. Thank you for posting Mr. Daisley and a lifetime of pleasure.
This RAINBOW line up is the best band EVER!
Let’s. Give a great deal of credit to whosoever produced this album, for capturing this amazing sound!!!!!
Martin Birch.. one of the greatest producers of all time.
Could of been mixed better
Rainbow with great albums with personnels like Ritchie, Ronnie, Joe, Bob, to name a few can never be forgotten.
Потрясающая композиция.Дио бесподобен.Браво!!!@
Powerful tune. I have never seen Ritchie Blackmore so animated and into the tune. Dio brings an extra power to Rainbow.
Сколько эти ребята концертов сделали сильнейшие музыканты вечная память всем ушедшим рокерам
What an epic song, from a legendary band. I remember listening and rocking out to this in highschool over 20 years ago!
How could 45 people not like this song? The mind boggles.
LOVE IT - the vocal is LIVE by Ronnie James Dio! \m/

The “Long live rock & roll” album is the epitome of Dio and Blackmores work together….Not to mention Ritchie’s solo on “Kill the King” is stellar 🎶🏆
And legendary bass player Bob Daisley... making rock history too, as usual! Thanks Bob!

Rainbow - fathers of everything that attempted to play hard rock in 80s & 90s anywhere
Nobody can replace 80s/90s rock n roll. Revisiting rock n roll n metal.
RIP Ronnie and Cozy, great line-up here.
LONG LIVE ROCK AND ROLL FOREVER!!!!!!!!
What a bunch of great musicians!!!
Ritchie didn’t need Deep Purple anymore. That’s why he formed Rainbow with Dio, and they kicked ass as a band.
OH MAN IM THANKFUL THIS WAS SAVED not much live videos they have from their 70s era with ronnie
Long live rock n roll!!👍💃🎸

R.I.P drummer Cozy Powell and Ronnie J Dio. I saw them perfomed live separately on stage with Dio and Whitesnake back in the 80's and 90's.
I read somewhere that Ritchie and Cozy Powell bonded over their love of ABBA
Now this was what Deep Purple should had sounded like if Ritchie had never left them.
Long Live Rock N Roll. What a pair Dio & Blackmore. One of the best songs and albums of Rock.
This was the best Rainbow line up.
Stage full of legends.
DIO will never die , Long live Ronnie James DIO
Love the heck out of your book Bob, and I am only one third of the way through it.
I always thought that Ronnie's parents missed an opportunity when they didn't name his brothers Ray or Stu.
WOW❤ ty Ronnie
Thanks a lot, Bob.
You all make music history.
We'll never forget it. We'll never forget RJD.
no me canso de escuchar este clasico

Dio and Blackmore...My favourite combination! \m/
dio always looks so happy :)
One of finest pieces of 70s rock.
So it's an old tradition from back in a day to record the song a certain way and then sing all the higher parts in the low key live...
Thx Bob for sharing!
And we'll never forget Cozy Powell, too.
Para Jose¨Pelos¨ por tratarme tan bien en su mítico Badil y en general a toda esa buena gente Amiga de Viana de Cega por brindarme vuestra calidéz y simpatía durante tantos años!!! Cheers,Beers and Rock´n´Roll!!! y..Vida Pa'lante !!!
