As someone who has been animating for 6 years since i was a younger kid, graduating this year as a 2023 student to then continue to pursue the dream of animation in college, thank you for this accessible app. I would’ve done chores to buy this if it was available to me back then, and I wonder if theres a young animator now doing the very same.
why is this so much better than procreate dreams and it literally costs half as much lol. a bunch of stuff that should be basic is missing from dreams and it’s already been out for like a month or two. they were so focused on making the interface sleek and modernized that i spent 2 hours confused, tutorials didn’t help much. tried this out and almost immediately got the gist of it. so now i’m just hoping that my dreams refund request gets approved lmao
Procreate Dreams really overwhelmed me lmao,, it’s one hell of a learning curve that I was not prepared for not to mention how complicated it can get considering some of the important features are hidden and such. I may think of trying out ToonSquid, despite my animations not being the best, which I’m working on.

I’m a terrible gambler, but from what I’ve seen… the toonsquid design squad still squeezes the ink out of the procreate savages. I say this simply because your timeline features seem more efficient. My favorite so far has been lip syncing to an audio track. I’m new to it all and totally appreciate your app.
Yes, it's 10x better than procreate dreams, and only half the price. I found out a day after buying dreams which is like procreate lite with microsoft powerpoint animation style. haha
Honestly, MASSIVE applause for the Easing curves part. Everything looks so promising, but with the little playback demo on the Easing curve to help your customers choose EXACTLY what we want is simply beautiful.
Easing curve part is really a cool part, Adobe Animate CC (2018 version) has that feature. But one thing stands out is the Exponential ease, since we have eases like Quad, Cubic, Quart, Quint, Sine, Back, Circ, Bounce and Elastic.
You sir are amazing and your app is awesome. My only advice is more outreach. I would start reaching out to content creators and animators on TH-cam and have them try it out. That way you get exposure and the community gets more tutorials. it’s a win win. Really loving the app thank you for your hard work!

this is sick, i have procreate, which this looks very similar to and might be inspired by it, but instead of a drawing focused app it’s a animation focused app! so it’s basically procreate that’s mostly focused on animation.

I've been using Rough Animator for 6 years, and this looks amazing. I bought it but haven't started playing around yet as I still have lots of RA stuff to finish. I would have considered switching just for the simplified interface, but these features are all really exciting. So many time saving and creative possibilities here, nothing else like it on iPadOS.

I immediately refunded Callipeg and got this and honestly the difference is night and day! I really hope you keep working on this for as long as possible! This is an amazing app!
Callipeg has got more features (Apart from symbol). I bought squid and was all excited coz it is new and shiny and it has symbols but you can only use the symbol within the one project. Work around would be to use multiple scenes instead of new project so I'll probably do lip syncing in Toonsquid. (Rough animator you can import layers from other projects so in effect like multi project symbols but no frame picker). I then tried to do other things like a scrolling background (Callipeg transformation layer is much more comprehensive and intuitive). Merge layers and animating whilst auto playing through the timeline. Squid has probably got better brushes, vector tweening etc. I'll probably use both for different things. I'm not trashing Toonsquid, great program, just defending another hard working independent developer and like I said happy to support both. We are spoilt with cheap mind blowing apps.
That is the best app for animation frame by frame and motion graphics , you can only tell its quality with its professional UI UX , i hope you will add motion blur to the next version
Is there a possibility of adding Bézier handles to the Vector Brush in the future? Also, being able to edit the stroke of Vector Brush after the shape has been filled would be nice. Very close to a perfect animation app, I’m missing these features. Please give the Vector Brush Tool the same features as the Pen Tool (a node mode)!

Just bought the app and been messing with it all night! Ran into some things i wish were in the app like a "ruler" or be able to draw straight lines with pixel brushes and not vector. Thank you for making this wonderful app!
Thank you for the suggestions! With the 1.6 update you can now create a brush with a very high smoothing, which can give you practically straight lines if you draw them relatively quickly.

I was planning on moving to adobe and then I found this. Yes I had to buy an iPad for this so I did end up spending more than a year of adobe animate…But this lasts longer than a year! Totally a steal ‼️

The program is great! One issue I’m having, however, is that the particular codec for .mov (with transparency option selected) does not work in Davinci Resolve - the opacity does not work properly. Is it possible to include a code that works? Thanks, JH.

Hi, gotta say well done on what looks like a fantastic new app. If you were Ad*be you’d have been on the front pages of animation/creative magazines already.. you will be! As I think has been mentioned, a bone tool rigging would be a winner, also X, Y and Z axis/3D space to work in. Audio import too? Just suggestions😊! Keep it up, all the best.
This looks amazing! Is there any feature that's similar to bone tools? There is one animation tool (AnimationPro) that allows that but it has a really poor drawing interface and is really hard to use.

Hi! Are you trying to copy multiple drawings at once? You can currently select multiple drawings (7:19) and then copy them as long as they are in the same animation layer. Copying multiple drawings from different layers is not possible yet. And if you have already copied some text you can select the text tool on the left, tap the screen (which creates a new text layer) and then tap again and select "Paste".
Hi and thank you for this fantastic app! Is there a way to adjust the onion skin intensity? It’s a bit bright and hard to see previous and next frames when inbetweening. The full layer opacity adjustment you added is awesome btw! In the future will you be adding a free-hand, the straight line, rectangle or an ellipse tool? Thanks for your time and advice!

@@LikesArtAndAnimation If you long-press the onion skin button you can change the onion skin colors and how many you want to see but there is currently no way to change their opacity. I will add this in a future update. Would it be enough to just have a single slider to make all onion skins more transparent or do you generally prefer to manually control each onion skin's opacity individually, such as in TV Paint? "Or can I switch the onion skin to see the image rather than colors" - I'm afraid I'm not exactly sure what you mean by this. If you have an example of this that I can look at, please feel free to send me an e-mail at contact@toonsquid.com. You can currently switch the path tool between freehand, ellipse, rectangle and rounded rectangle mode with the dropdown in the top-right. If you are rather asking about drawing those shapes with the selected brush, such as in Procreate, then I am planning to add that feature at some point as well, yes. Hi and thanks for the reply! Onionskin functionality similar to TVPaint and others would be great!!! Totally understand the iteration process so if a slider is easier to implement it’ll work too. Setting the onionskin to none will allow the animator to see the pencil color they’ve drawn with similar to animating on paper. Will definitely dive into the tools as you noted and send some examples. Thanks again for your time! Stav Draws had a great intro to your app which lead me to it. Awesome app. Game changer. The only thing I need is drawing assist shapes because I'm hopeless at drawing. Circle, square, rectangle and straight line, it really helps make the drawing look clean.
Can you animate the anchor points of the layers? seems the animations are just following a line, but can the image rotate, grow, shrink while riding that same line?
Hi really a great app on ipad, all the animators are lucky now and can get this quick. But I have a question please 😊 When you use the vector brush to draw, how can you use the fill tool to color your area delimited by your draw in vector. Because it is impossible to color certain areas which are not closed by the same original line. In pixel, no problem. Areas are considered by the fill tool and you can color like in any graphic app, but with the vector, do you have some advices? Thank you!

Enjoying a lot of Toon Squid!! Let me suggest two features; Reverse motion curve or the whole clip. Maybe there is an option now? Don’t see it. Besides, in Apple Motion 5 you can Record paint. So I can make a draw and control how it appears. Thanks anyway for the fantastic app!
Thankyou for creating this amazing and much needed app..! Question on the “edit pixels” option during key-framing…when would you need it on during key-framing and if never, can you make it turn off automatically when key-frame mode is enabled..?
That button will be removed completely with the upcoming 2.0 update ( toonsquid.com/updates/ToonSquid-2-Beta/ ) for various reasons. I would recommend disabling it and always creating a selection with the selection tool to then transform the pixels. (The 2.0 update will also make it easy to quickly create a selection covering all pixels with a second tap on the transform tool button for a quick workflow). Feel free to sign up for beta testing to provide feedback on the new behaviour if you like.
An animation app with animatable vectors , that's great . One thing though I notice while you have Onion skin for frame by frame it doesn't appear to work on keyframes which I do think can be beneficial in some circumstances .
Hi! If you long-press the onion skin button you get more options. There you can change it to show the surrounding frames instead of the surrounding drawings which is more useful when working with keyframes.
I WISH I found this video sooner, I’m super new to animation and bought this app but was struggling a LOT with the key frames. Hopefully I will understand it now, but I am still very confused with vector and key frames… not for this specific app, just in general xD

The lasso tool being missing from Dreams really hurt. Performance mode is one of the only perks in comparison to ToonSquid.

I love the ToonSquid app and I am using it for all my TH-cam animations. Some of my animations are as long as 8 minutes.

Very close to a perfect animation app, I’m missing these features. Please give the Vector Brush Tool the same features as the Pen Tool (a node mode)!
I just started to make animation on my own recently, but I couldn’t find the app that works for me. This app might be the one I looking for. Pack with features and came with a affordable price. I’m looking forward to seeing what this amazing app will be able to do in the future.

Just bought the app and been messing with it all night! Ran into some things i wish were in the app like a "ruler" or be able to draw straight lines with pixel brushes and not vector. Thank you for making this wonderful app!
Thank you for the suggestions! With the 1.6 update you can now create a brush with a very high smoothing, which can give you practically straight lines if you draw them relatively quickly.

I was planning on moving to adobe and then I found this. Yes I had to buy an iPad for this so I did end up spending more than a year of adobe animate…But this lasts longer than a year! Totally a steal ‼️

The program is great! One issue I’m having, however, is that the particular codec for .mov (with transparency option selected) does not work in Davinci Resolve - the opacity does not work properly. Is it possible to include a code that works? Thanks, JH.

As I think has been mentioned, a bone tool rigging would be a winner, also X, Y and Z axis/3D space to work in. Audio import too? Just suggestions😊! Keep it up, all the best.

This looks amazing! Is there any feature that's similar to bone tools? There is one animation tool (AnimationPro) that allows that but it has a really poor drawing interface and is really hard to use.

Hi! Are you trying to copy multiple drawings at once? You can currently select multiple drawings (7:19) and then copy them as long as they are in the same animation layer. Copying multiple drawings from different layers is not possible yet.
And if you have already copied some text you can select the text tool on the left, tap the screen (which creates a new text layer) and then tap again and select "Paste".

Hi and thank you for this fantastic app! Is there a way to adjust the onion skin intensity? It’s a bit bright and hard to see previous and next frames when inbetweening. The full layer opacity adjustment you added is awesome btw! In the future will you be adding a free-hand, the straight line, rectangle or an ellipse tool? Thanks for your time and advice!
Or can I switch the onion skin to see the image rather than colors? Sorry for the additional question! Many coworkers and friends of mine are so impressed with ToonSquid! We wish you much success!
@@LikesArtAndAnimation If you long-press the onion skin button you can change the onion skin colors and how many you want to see but there is currently no way to change their opacity. I will add this in a future update. Would it be enough to just have a single slider to make all onion skins more transparent or do you generally prefer to manually control each onion skin's opacity individually, such as in TV Paint?

You can currently switch the path tool between freehand, ellipse, rectangle and rounded rectangle mode with the dropdown in the top-right. If you are rather asking about drawing those shapes with the selected brush, such as in Procreate, then I am planning to add that feature at some point as well, yes.

Hi and thanks for the reply! Onionskin functionality similar to TVPaint and others would be great!!! Totally understand the iteration process so if a slider is easier to implement it’ll work too. Setting the onionskin to none will allow the animator to see the pencil color they’ve drawn with similar to animating on paper. Will definitely dive into the tools as you noted and send some examples. Thanks again for your time! Stav Draws had a great intro to your app which lead me to it. Awesome app. Game changer. The only thing I need is drawing assist shapes because I'm hopeless at drawing. Circle, square, rectangle and straight line, it really helps make the drawing look clean.

Can you animate the anchor points of the layers? seems the animations are just following a line, but can the image rotate, grow, shrink while riding that same line?
can you make turoial for character hierarchachy? i was able to make one characters. but when i have two characters in folder it all messed up

When you use the vector brush to draw, how can you use the fill tool to color your area delimited by your draw in vector.
Because it is impossible to color certain areas which are not closed by the same original line.
In pixel, no problem. Areas are considered by the fill tool and you can color like in any graphic app, but with the vector, do you have some advices?

Hello dear..your app it’s amazing..I just have one issue with vector closing gaps for paintings..sometimes it fails..can you add closing gaps detections for vector?? Just Like the Cacani app? Thanks.
Enjoying a lot of Toon Squid!! Let me suggest two features; Reverse motion curve or the whole clip. Maybe there is an option now? Don’t see it. Besides, in Apple Motion 5 you can Record paint. So I can make a draw and control how it appears. Thanks anyway for the fantastic app!

Thankyou for creating this amazing and much needed app..! Question on the “edit pixels” option during key-framing…when would you need it on during key-framing and if never, can you make it turn off automatically when key-frame mode is enabled..?
That button will be removed completely with the upcoming 2.0 update ( toonsquid.com/updates/ToonSquid-2-Beta/ ) for various reasons. I would recommend disabling it and always creating a selection with the selection tool to then transform the pixels. (The 2.0 update will also make it easy to quickly create a selection covering all pixels with a second tap on the transform tool button for a quick workflow). Feel free to sign up for beta testing to provide feedback on the new behaviour if you like.

An animation app with animatable vectors , that's great . One thing though I notice while you have Onion skin for frame by frame it doesn't appear to work on keyframes which I do think can be beneficial in some circumstances .
Hi! If you long-press the onion skin button you get more options. There you can change it to show the surrounding frames instead of the surrounding drawings which is more useful when working with keyframes.

I WISH I found this video sooner, I’m super new to animation and bought this app but was struggling a LOT with the key frames. Hopefully I will understand it now, but I am still very confused with vector and key frames… not for this specific app, just in general xD
